I Love Gene Kelly. I've seen all his movies over and over. He was an amazing dancer. and I especially love Brigadoon. There's no one alive who can dance like him in that carefree style. He made it look so easy.
It's amazing how Kelly and Astaire could come up with such musical diamonds as seen here, e.g., Kelly's walking backwards up a hill, legs crisscrossing, choreography at its most sublime.
OMG!! I 've always wanted a man like Gene Kelly: handsome, romantic, talented, great dresser, & not afraid to love a woman or even to make a fool of himself for her!! Love him all of my days!! Continue RIHP King!! 💘
Movies like Brigadoon were few and far between. People like Gene Kelly, Van Johnson and Cyd Charrisse don't exist anymore. I have watched this movie at least 6 times.it is one of all time favorites.
Feels like seeing a childhood friend after so many years. I thought I could never find this movie as I didn't remember anything about it beside it's about a village appears only every 100 years. After about 30 years I found it. Feel as lucky as Gene Kelly's character in the movie ( -70 years luckier) . :) Love you Google!
@Natalie...Agreed. But I think he'll have to share it with Fred Astaire who showed off his in his first dance solo. Take a look: ruclips.net/video/vtJD9No6GVM/видео.html
If this is what Tommy is like ALMOST in love, I wonder what being IN love is like. I still watch my VHS version of this even though I grabbed the DVD version. Brigadoon is my most watched movie of my 21 years closely followed by Guys and Dolls, and 1776. Musicals are amazing; that's all there is to it.
Guys and dolls, show boat, kiss me Kate, carousel, Oklahoma, 7 brides for 7 brothers, it's always fair weather, singing in the rain, meet me in Las Vegas are all classic MGM films I can't live without and I haven't even listed 1/4 of them
According to what I see this was 3 years ago I hope you did it right Brigadoon is my favorite movie of all times wish I could have been there to see it I hope you had fun

That's cute interplay between Kelly and Johnson here. And there's only one other singer/actor/dancer who could pull this number as well I can think of at the moment, and that's Fred Astaire. Anyone in agreement with me? Astaire can match Kelly's mischievous little boy caught with his hands in the cookie jar improvisation. Then, too, both have the tenor voice that goes well with this song.
Welcome to the wonderful world of the great song and dance of the years of true entertainment. Now don't stop here, for the road to song and dance, has just begun.
I personally think "Heather On The Hill" & his ballet with Cyd Charisse was the showstopper for the movie. Cyd Charisse was always beautiful. But, she was simply stunning as Fiona Campbell. Sure, Astaire danced on a ceiling. But, I honestly believe this was the most beautiful dance ever filmed. And, I'm including the "Carousel" Dream Beach Ballet, which makes me cry every single time!
2:50 Does anyone else see them putting a bush into the scene, or is it just me? i seem to be the only person to have caught that in my class all 3 times we've watched it!
I never noticed it, until tonight on another video, because commenters mentioned it. Maybe I thought it was a breeze. But I just never saw it move, as I was focusing on Gene.
Donald Marhefka if u go to the top right hand corner of the google page there should be a thing that looks like a group of squares. U click on that and there should be a Google Play button.
When he drags his shoes across the floor,,does that count as the first scratch? Its ALMOST like listening to a modern DJ scratching a vinyl record.. 555555555 well before its time,
Now lets get it straight this is NOT Lerner & Loewe's Brigadoon.I takes a great talent to hack a wonderful musical to death.Gene Kelly is that wonderful talent, but sadly being mainly a dancer,he removed many of the songs, and used the music from them for the extended dance sequences.Add to this the fact that the great director Vincente Minnelli wanted to film in Scotland (great idea) but the studio considered the expense too much, which basically scuppered the whole idea. The best movie version is the 1966 one with Robert Goulet, Directed by Fielder Cook.Which as far as I know has the complete score. You may wonder why I am posting this on a trailer clip.Well, as comments are disabled for the complete (1954) movie post,it would seem that it has too many bad comments?
According to a interview that he did with film historian"Prof.Richard Brown on AMC's "Reflections Of The Silver Screen"..Gene Kelly said that he was the one..who wanted to do the film in Scotland..but? The new head of MGM..Mr.Schary said"NO!"..Gene tried to afford an alternative..filming in upstate California..which resembles the Scot's highlands..but? Mr.Schary again said no. So the damn stupid execs tampered with a movie adaption.
Vincente Minnelli, the film's director, wanted to shoot the film in Scotland, but the MGM regime rejected the idea. Ultimately, both he and Kelly were disappointed with the finished product. The two roles that Kelly did want to undertake, Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls and Pal Joey, eluded him.
Don't find up-tempo renditions of this song (Nat Cole's, et als) disrespectful. Still, such interpretations can alter the sweet romance that was intended.
This was an all time favourite--BUT it should have been made in Scotland using people with authentic accents and using the beauty of the Scottish countryside. A shame...
I love how he makes this seem so spontaneous, driven by his emotions, when you know he practiced for hours!
Perfectly said.
It's too bad we don't have films like these today. And I'd wish they'd release a blu-ray for this movie.
Amazon has it in Bluray

Gene could sing and dance your heart into being more than who you are. A rare Man's Man, and a Ladies' Man. I wonder if we'll ever see his like again?
It's amazing how Kelly and Astaire could come up with such musical diamonds as seen here, e.g., Kelly's walking backwards up a hill, legs crisscrossing, choreography at its most sublime.

Fascinating how close the spirit of this parallels the energy in Kelly’s other iconic turn, “Singin’ in the Rain”…light-hearted, nearly slap-happy.
Gene Kelly oh my. 🕺🏼🎵. Gene Kelly was one of a kind. There will never be another Gene Kelly.
You will look a very long time to find an artist like gene Kelly
You’d look in vain! Unmatched!

Very nice singing performance from Gene. He really didn't have much of a voice but he used what he had very well.

Thank you SO much for uploading this! I have been looking for it for months!
This is very much like another dance Kelly had previously done, only slightly drier, if you get my meaning.
IfI hear the Jules Holland /Jamie Cullum version once more, I'll scream. Why mess with perfection?
This is one of my favorites. Wish it was the whole movie!
I'd give anything for my grandkids to be able to this and Camelot, Sound of Music, etc. (the originals)

yes some of sets were cheesy, true
No disrespect intended for the wonderful Gene Kelly but the gorgeous songs from this show were beyond him (I believe he thought so too).
I love how the dude is staring at Gene Kelly! He's like, "Dude......... you cray cray!"
Van Johnson, MGM Star since the 1940s.
The Highland cows were thinking: "These set designers haven't ever been within 300 miles of Scotland, have they? And why is there a pig on the set??"
I was wondering if those oxen with the long sharp horns were thinking of turning Gene into a gene-ka-bob.
Now this is the way that song ought to be sung and played. Most performers prefer to jazz up this beautiful ballad. Terrible. Thanks for posting
Terrible a matter of my own personal tastes. Can't speak for all
