Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor star in one of the greatest musicals ever filmed. Musician Don Lockwood (Kelly) rises to stardom during Hollywood's silent-movie era--paired with the beautiful, jealous and dumb Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen). When Lockwood becomes attracted to young studio singer Kathy Selden (Reynolds), Lamont has her fired. But with the introduction of talking pictures, audiences laugh when they hear Lockwood speak for the first time--and the studio uses Selden to dub her voice. Who doesn't?😅 I once heard that he never understood why girls were all over him, but, oh, there are so many reasons why. I'm barely going to be 20 in a couple weeks, and I am not afraid to say that I carry a burning torch for him, and have for the last couple years.

This song always makes me feel happy.
I can imagine people in their 40s watching this movie remembering their own youth in the roaring 1920's, after surviving the Stock Market Crash, the Great Depression, WWII, and then in the 1950's raising families to compensate the massive loss their generation dealt with. They were my grandparents' generation, and Singin in the Rain was released as a retro movie to celebrate it, they had all reasons to feel happy. This movie was born an immediate classic.

I am studying filmmaking right now, and it is so impressive to me how one single scene can be so memorable to so many. I have never seen this movie, but know the scene immediately when the name is mentioned. Of all the joyful expressions in this song, the one that everyone remembers is Gene Kelly hanging on the streetlamp.
Perhaps this is the essence of 'singing in the rain'... when you are so exuberant, you can turn something ordinary into something magnificent.
Here's to all the people reading this in film school; let us never forget to use our imagination, so we can turn ordinary pages into something wonderful, for the benefit of all of us.
When I was a child I used to watch this movie over and over and over again. Now that I'm an adult it is Incredible how this movie is still so comforting for me.

This scene, and many others, from this UNFORGETTABLE film, is simply -- Unforgettable!!
This is perhaps the one movie where I know this scene very well and have seen it countless times in my lifetime. But never once have I ever seen the whole film or know anything about the plot or the characters. And I think, I will leave it like this for the rest of my life now as I am happy as it is.
Do what you think is best, but you are missing out. The story just makes this scene that much better.
