    The fact that almost all new cars don't have integrated dash/rear cams from the factory that record collisions is insane to me, should have been a feature for the last 20 years.

      I'd be happy if new cars just came with a usb power port up near the rear view mirror, so you can plug your dashcam in there instead of running this stupid wire all through your car.

      Valid point. Only not everyone purchasing dash cams & attempting to hide them are driving cars, pickup trucks or SUV'S. Some of us are driving much, much larger vehicles Like 80,000lbs more!
      And We're buying redundant electronics because We have to protect ourselves, our commercial licenses & careers. We cannot simply rely on the dash cams that the majority of trucking companies have in their trucks, to exonerate us. Heck, We don't even have access to those dash cams. Only the safety department of the company does. And even though Were performing a skilled trade in which we had to receive training, like actual schooling, testing, re-testing, going out on the road with a Mentor &
      implement our trade 11 hours every day, plus know our trucks inside & out, thanks to the mandatory DAILY pre-trip & post-trip inspections, DOT surprise inspections, etc....any accident happens & it's US that have to prove our innocence or risk an entire career & financial burden it cost us...all because someone didn't want to take responsibility for causing an accident because they were distracted driving because they were texting their teenager (or work, or insert whichever applies in your situation)
      AND, it's a little presumptuous to assume everyone driving is going out to buy a NEW car. And many are a lot older than 10 years old. Mine is for sure. My money goes into my truck, not my 4 wheeler that I drive less than 48 hours a month when I'm lucky enough to get home time

      I know you must have fitted yours quite some time ago, but for SAFETY REASONS check if your windscreen pillar has an airbag. If it does, and you ran the cable over it like the guy did in this video, please take the time to run it around the airbag. In the case of airbag deployment, you will either get a cable in the face at 150+mph or it may hinder the deployment. Not a good idea to cross the a-pillar trim as the curtain airbag pushes out from underneath this trim. Crossing the a-pillar is very likely to interfere with airbag deployment. You should take the a-pillar trim off and secure the cable such that it can’t interfere (keep it on the forward side of any part of the airbag). At a minimum, see if you can tuck it between the windshield and the a-pillar trim, NOT the door side of it.

    I wouldn't do that at 1:15. Likely obstructs the curtain airbag. It probably wouldn't block the airbag from deploying given it's just a little USB cable but I still wouldn't do it purely because I don't want a USB cable to the face in a crash. It's not that bad just removing the trim and routing the cable around it.

    Does hiding the cable under the weatherproof strip hurt the waterproofing and cause water leakage?

    What about the curtain airbags. My dash cam has huge warnings about not tucking wires if you have curtain airbags.

      What did you end up doing

    • @RingaTech
      @RingaTech 4 года назад +29

      Don't follow this advice. The wire goes OVER the curtain airbag. If airbag gets deployed, the cable will pop out, and with the airbag speed, it may pull the camera with force and hit you or something, and you may have a liability issue. The correct way is to remove the A-pillar trim, and put the cables so that they go below the airbag (there are usually other cables there you can follow), and don't get in the way. Be carefull because A-pillar removal, in some cars, should be done with care. Some have some "snaps" tethers that if you pull too hard, they break, and you have to replace them. Check for other videos on how to do that, it can be done without breaking them. But don't be lazy and do it like in the video. It's stupid.

    This is okay if you are using the quick connect, I was looking for running the hard wire, (actually 3). 2 to the trunk, and 1 to the rear camera, But I'm trying to decide if I should go across the top, or along the bottom. I'm thinking of just running it through my headliner using fish wire (staying clear of the sunroof of course) then down my C pillar to my fuses in my trunk. And for the rear camera just pull it out of the headliner by my rear camera. (2008 Chrysler 300C).

    Will these get in the way of airbags?

    • @popeyetsm2750
      @popeyetsm2750 2 года назад

      The way he routed the wire, yes it will get in the way of the airbags should they need to deploy, absolutely. So no, it's not a good idea to route the wire as he did (crossing the pillar trim over to the weatherstripping).
      This is precisely why the mfr. recommends routing the wire back down the side a-pillar windshield trim, then along to the front of the dash, and then down and under the front [passenger] panels under the dash and over to the center console.

There's a great "hardwire dashcam" video by ChrisFix where he explains this at the 20min mark.

    My dash cam mini usb wire has only two colours. Black and white. When I spliced Black with Black and White with Red to another data USB to get a power extension, it only gives a flickering screen. What is the case when power USB wire has only Black and White wire as explained above? Thanks in advance.
