I suspect this video may go on to get a fair few views so I'll just leave this here... Pressure washing shuts following a one-off thorough clean is perfectly safe and acceptable. In my experience it won't cause the car to rust away, hinges to seize or lock mechanisms to fail. There will always be some overspray contaminating surrounding interior panels but so long as you tend to the shuts before detailing the interior and wipe the overspray off with a towel, it's really not a big deal. Yes, I got close to the speaker grill here (mainly due to the fact I was working at an awkward angle because there was a large video camera and tripod standing where I usually would be) but it's my car, I wasn't concerned and neither should you be because it's a Volvo and it still works. There's a big difference between initial/one-off deep cleaning and regular maintenance cleaning. You wouldn't degrease, brush and pressure wash your already clean, polished and protected shuts and similarly, you wouldn't go at filthy, neglected shuts with a mere rinsless wash, detail spray or similar.
andrew mc cabe Yeah always happens then when you drive the rust mess up the wheel. I bought a can if that air spray that you use to clean computer keyboards and what I do is use it to blow the water off the disc
I'm impressed! Makes a hell of a difference. Not something I've ever really concentrated on but after watching this video, something I feel I need to start doing!
That is truly one SWEET ride you got there Mr. Guru! Absolutely LOVE that Polestar Blue color. One of my favorite colors of all time on a vehicle, very similar to the French Racing Blue made so famous over the years on the legendary French racing cars including Bugatti, Delage, Delahaye, Peugeot, and my personal favorite ALPINE! Great video content also as always.....your training videos are some of the best related to Detailing vehicles on RUclips, hands down.
Seriously one of my favorite detailing channels, AMMO NYC included. Both of you guys are ridiculously detail oriented, and seem incredibly passionate at what you guys do. Please keep up the great work, I look forward to these videos when I’m having a particularly bad day 👍🏼
I have just given your channel an accreditation after following some hints and tips you've given previously. I had done an engine bay deep clean. Thank you.. Keep the AWESOME work up!
I just wanna say thank you for giving so many tips and being so clear. Its amazing. Ive tried a video like this myself but no one will ever match your videos! Thank you for making me so interested in simply cleaning!
Sweet baby Jesus. Your voice is so smooth and calming.... you could brutally torture someone but as long as you narrated it all, it wouldn't be a problem :'-) Keep up the good work!
Perfection. I watch your vids time and again. Right now, I've taken a break from my intense cleaning of my car: (a) someone did a hit and run on my boot which has spoiled my pleasure of the car and (b) the cars value is prob way less than the value of the clean I do.... I know it's an old vid, but there's lots you do that's worth watching over again. I wish you crazy success in 2020.
Very nice detailed looking door shuts there. I've been waiting for this area detailing video for a while now and thankfully one arrived here. I've been really scared of touching the door shuts with any kind of a water sprayer(pressure or hose), so I developed a little waterless wash detail with spray bottles for these areas. Works quite the same as this method however some bits are harder to get to and miss quite a lot of those places for a quality finish. I actually like these "hard to work with" detailing areas as they are the places where you can spend your time really on getting them looking great even though no one notices them but you know they are in great shape.
I love listening to all the songbirds in your videos!🐦 The detailing is good too! I've been hesitant to get in with the jambs bc of fear of saturating interior carpets!
Another superb video, once again I saw the upload last night but I calmly waited until after work, with coffee ready! I did what you did with all the shuts (not to your detail cause I’m not that good!) last year when I bought my car, and because it is silver, I only had to hand wax the shuts once, no need for polish, now every week after I wash my car I simply go over all shuts (quickly) with meguiars last touch detail spray. Can I also apologies on behalf of all these “desk detailers” who are sitting behind a screen and tell you (a clear professional) how to do this and that. Your videos are very much appreciated and your miles better than these others “detailing guys” keep it up. Sorry for this long ass comment.
Very detailed as ever👍 I find to rinse around the boot/tailgate, you can get most of the suds rinsed away with the boot/tailgate closed and pour water in and around the gaps with an open hose. The boot will stay dry then but that’s with the rubber seals in place! Looking forward to the Guru Mobil have a full polish. It’s a great colour and I love solid paint when it’s polished to perfection.
I can heartily recommend AutoBrite Jaffa Clean for door shuts and engines bays. It's a cleaner, degreaser and protectant in one, spray on, let dwell for a couple of minutes, if heavy build up of grease and grime, agitate with a brush, then follow with a pressure rinse. Invariably I do it before or after the snow foam pre-wash, then pressure rinse the whole vehicle for a 2BM wash.
i think most people forget/get lazy when it comes to cleaning rubber and plastic bits, tending to focus on the paint. i started treating all the rubber when i got my 91 mx5, which has returned some of flex and sealing ability of the sills, and made some plastic trim pieces nice to touch again.
Who ever had this car off you wouldn’t of found a cleaner one,for sure the cleanest in uk,and the extra’s you put on the engine made the bay pop,it was a mint car for sure
He wasn't doing the "interior" (although I have known this to be done on really bad doors without electrics), but around the edges. It's also common practice as it's the easiest and fastest way of getting the door shuts/jambs clean.
You get used to it after awhile. If you practice you learn to spray only the jams and not any of the interior. Its just hard plastic so a little water doesn't hurt. Gonna get water there anyway from when it rains :p
Love your vids and it sounds like you live near a bird sanctuary, it sounds so nice and I feel relaxed watching you thoroughly clean cars. I also learn things and get motivated to detail my car better. Today I learned the term “shuts”. Must be a UK term? I’ve always called them “jambs” here in Michigan. Going to detail my door jambs (or shuts) this weekend! 😃👍Thanks Guru!
Missed your videos. Funny that you chose this part of the car as a theme for a video, as i've been looking at some door seals conditioners such as the Einszett Gummi. Great job as always. 👍 And yes, much care needed to not flood the rear end. 😀
One happy clean car 👍 great detailed video as usual ,thanks 😊. I saw some of the round brushes in B&Q the other day and thought they would be perfect for the areas around the lights.
Damm first thought in my mind as well lol. Guess have to regrease everythng which again will make hinges part dirty again. So a quick wipe there maybe. Also I would follow it with a cautious approach say cleaning with apc and wiping off with a wet cloth not the best way but I feel no point going from one thing to another and then coming back at same. Yes there maybe careful way to regrease it but trust me no matter how careful one is. It has to be followed by a wipe , after
You spray WD40 in locking mechanism and a couple quick squirts around tops of hinges, where water has a tendency to sit, before you wash. Once washed repeat as WD40 is a penetrating oil and water-displacing spray also a rust remover whereas it breaks down the bonds between metal and rust and protects metal from rust and corrosion.
JillyBean860 it all depends on how dirty hinges are on how thorough you wash! Really if you’re doing a full on pressure wash yes a re grease is due, otherwise just a light coating of a cleaning agent then a wash off. If you cannot control pressure of washer then bring nozzle back from hinge as not to disturb grease if possible and try not to linger too long with washer around hinges.
I suspect this video may go on to get a fair few views so I'll just leave this here...

Car Cleaning Guru
Can you tell me what stuff was used for the seals. I'm struggling to find a decent water based one
Question that's a bit off topic,is there any tip or way of drying off the discs after washing? Wheels seem to get a light coating of rust dust.
andrew mc cabe
Yeah always happens then when you drive the rust mess up the wheel.
I bought a can if that air spray that you use to clean computer keyboards and what I do is use it to blow the water off the disc
andrew mc cabe
You could pat dry with a towel, otherwise remove wheel to do so.
As been asked what did you use to dress your door seals with??
Only Car Cleaning Guru can make a 20 minute video on how to detail door shuts/sills/slams. What a legend, love your work mate
wow, hats off this is the pinnacle of car care. Top bloke, and what a lovely car and colour ❤
It's 2AM and I'm watching a guy wax door jambs on the other side of the world.

Literally exactly what I’m doing right now but it’s 1:44
Same.

VERY clear and thoroughly done!!! Hats off for a great job and video!!!
...I have gone 20 years without ever cleaning that part of any of the vehicles I have owned. And I still found this video incredibly fascinating.

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT WATCHING A GUY WASH A CAR COULD BE SO RELAXING.
Awesome! that’s how I work!
I have just given your channel an accreditation after following some hints and tips you've given previously. I had done an engine bay deep clean.
Thank you.. Keep the AWESOME work up!
This is the best video i seen about this subject. It is going slowly and shows what is needed to be seen :-) . Thank you!
Nothing like a good quick hand job eh Guru! haha! ;-) Tackling my shuts this weekend, cheers!

Niamh Healy Oh how about the local Romanian car wash do you think they'd offer a good service 😂
I didn't know they offered hand jobs lol I've never cum across them? Sorry couldn't resist 😂😂😂
Please make a video of all the products you use or recommend. I for one would love to see your go to products. Excellent video btw.
Love your videos. There's something very soothing about watching the cleaning process in combination with your narration.
Thank you for the information. I've learned a lot from you in taking care of 3 Volvo's and a Lincoln.
Sweet baby Jesus. Your voice is so smooth and calming.... you could brutally torture someone but as long as you narrated it all, it wouldn't be a problem :'-) Keep up the good work!
Could listen to this guy all day... good work budd.

Excellent vid as ever Guru.
It's an area many people either dismiss or don't really know how to tackle, top work :)
As usual, the video and the comments are as clean as the car. Well done!

dude the way you talk is just legendary. i can't get over it. haha.
What a great video! I was looking for something like this a month ago. Eagerly awaiting the engine bay video
Why is your voice so satisfying...
I’ve often ignored all of these areas; my mistake. I found it a great tip to also pull back the seals 👍🏼 great info!
8:53 it looks like this part of the pavement got cleaner, will you ever do a pavement cleaning video?
The end results look fantastic, I love the color of your vehicle.
Nice, I use large black refuse sacks to line interiors prior to washing to avoid overspray on the interior
A really appreciate you taking the time to put U.S links for the products you use.
Listening is Like a goodnight book 😂 love it
Wohoo, finaly detailer guide to door shut cleaning, thanks guru!
I just started looking your videos, and I must say you are extremely thorough! Great videos!
I love listening to all the songbirds in your videos!🐦 The detailing is good too! I've been hesitant to get in with the jambs bc of fear of saturating interior carpets!
Best car cleaning channel on YT, nice car, nice colour, great rims and great sound and your voice is hypnotizing, 😇
Now I have more weapons in my detailing arsenal to win a show. Thanks sir!
Highly therapeutic to watch. Thank you.

Fes Y Well said!
Thanks mate, always awesome to watch your thorough attention to detail and basic tips that make sense to us car guys/diys. Thank you
Everyone should be grateful for a quick hand job. Great video, I'm tackling my car tomorrow.
“Don’t unnecessarily flood the rear end” lol
Very detailed as ever👍 I find to rinse around the boot/tailgate, you can get most of the suds rinsed away with the boot/tailgate closed and pour water in and around the gaps with an open hose. Looks as mint as possible just perfect.
Great content and equally great presentation, easy to listen to, cheers mate 👍 from a fellow northerner (Preston)
Each time you talk it sounds like a rap freestyle. Deep man. Love it 🔥👌🏻
Mi Likey to me he sounds like that old dude from NatGeo,,, sir something, can’t remember his name.
I can heartily recommend AutoBrite Jaffa Clean for door shuts and engines bays. And who wants a flooded rear end , gulp. Never mind that crevice tool brought into play . Great vid as always 👍
makes a difference for sure !!
best detailing video ever
😂 Super cute fella who really loves his cars.
The small details really bring the car together when your cleaning it
3:42 This was my favorite part without a doubt..
ASMR DOOR SHUTTER CLEANING
I concur with your findings.
that's one happy volvo . plenty of nice tricks too ...
Great Job. Is the Guru Huff designed to highlight areas where the polish residue still needs to be buffed out? or simply a bonding ritual?
The former, can be applied to windows as well for smears but you need to ensure you’ve properly brushed your teeth first.
i think most people forget/get lazy when it comes to cleaning rubber and plastic bits, tending to focus on the paint. i started treating all the rubber when i got my 91 mx5, which has returned some of flex and sealing ability of the sills, and made some plastic trim pieces nice to touch again.
Who ever had this car off you wouldn’t of found a cleaner one,for sure the cleanest in uk,and the extra’s you put on the engine made the bay pop,it was a mint car for sure
Your oil pan also needs a good clean inside and wheel bearings are looking dirty.
I read that in his voice :D
the paint on the shuts really responds well to a polish doesnt it ,great video , keep up the brilliant work
I’m impressed!!! Seriously.
Jet washing the interior of his car door
Absolute madman
He wasn't doing the "interior" (although I have known this to be done on really bad doors without electrics), but around the edges. It's also common practice as it's the easiest and fastest way of getting the door shuts/jambs clean.
mrman17 yeah well aware of that, I watched the video, but I wouldn’t use my pressure washer anywhere near my open doors
JPJD990 I don't like doing it either, but it is a common practice when I used to work as a service washer years ago.
You get used to it after awhile. If you practice you learn to spray only the jams and not any of the interior. Its just hard plastic so a little water doesn't hurt. Gonna get water there anyway from when it rains :p
JPJD990 As a car detailer who has done hundreds of cars I can tell you there is nothing wrong with it. I do it to every car and never had a problem.
a great detailing artist
I like doing the door shuts because they're the only part of my car that looks brand new
I have no words.. for you . You are really hard worker 👍👍👍 and incredible💐💐 Love you from India..
What an amazingly satisfying video to watch !!
I love your videos and this beautiful Volvo! Keep it up! 👌🏻
You're so extra I love it. I just spray degreaser and pressure spray it off. The jambs looked amazing thanks for the tips!
I never seen door jambs so clean on my life! 😍
18:57 You’re Wrong. Its The Most Enjoyable Part For Me. Especially With The Soft Brush Wiggling Seeing That Gunk Come Off.... Yeah!
Some really good tips in here. Thanks for sharing!
Great video, exceptional attention to detail. I have no idea how 14 people gave you a dislike..
I just woke up and watched this. I should go to bed now. (I usually watch it before going to bed lol)
Great video CCG,you gave me a few tips on doing mine thanks,i will do mine this way when the good weather is here.
Quality work, quality video from the master Guru !
A car cleaning channel.
Now I've seen everything.

This is exactly the job I’m doing on my car this weekend thanks!!! 💥🚗💥🚗💥🚗
i always reserve your vids for the weekend coz i know ima wanna jump up and go clean my car lol cheers mate!!
Missed your videos.

good job! i love this car, she's like new car now.
She will be when I’ve finished, engine bay next then finally machine polishing!
It is already beautifull !
Awesome video very educational and I will put it into practice.
CCG Is Royalty in this business. ☝️
I was wondering, do you lubricate everything again once you're done cleaning the car? I can already see some rust in the door lock mechanism.
Philip Cooper
I was thinking the same thing. Seems like degreasing the hinges would require a regreasing to prevent squeaks and rust.
It has to be followed by a wipe , after
Yes re grease, if they dry out they wear out quicker, also squeak and rust hence why there is grease on it in the first place
