think this Fitzroy Lions relocation /merger is one of the greatest stories in the AFL. 4 flags in less than 30 years. 6 grand-final appearances in less than 30 years. Large Fan bases in both Brisbane and Melbourne. Fitzroy fans showed there force against Geelong a week ago at the G and yesterday against the Swans. I think the likes of North Melbourne and Melbourne football clubs would be scratching their head thinking what could have been. The AFL should really embrace the Fitzroy name.
Even though they lost their last 4 grannies, the same goes for the swans. North Melbourne should have accepted the relocation to Canberra in the 80s imo. And the bulldogs and Saints should have considered relocation too.
It's funny how North Melbourne Kangaroos were a "powerhouse" in the years after the merger... making the 1999 Grand final against Carlton. Now they are cellar dwellers of the AFL and haven't been relevant since the late '90's - early 2000's...
Another thing about the (2024 Twenty-Twenty Four) AFL Grand Final with both Sydney Swans & Brisbane Lions as both city rivals which reminds me both very same city rivals between Sydney & Brisbane are from our (2000) NRL Grand Final which was (24) years ago which was between Sydney Roosters & Brisbane Broncos in Sydney and the result that our Queenslander Team of Brisbane (Brissie) Broncos who had won against the New South Walsh Team of Sydney Roosters (Chooks) and the final score/s were Brisbane Broncos (14) - Sydney Roosters (6) and Darryn Lockyer the (Brisbane Broncos) Fullback who got the Clive Churchill Medal Award of course.
