Yes, the obsession with Geelong and Chris Scott being the greatest coach in the world is pretty tiring. Scott is a decent coach but he inherited a premiership list and they have had a top 2, top 4 lists every season he’s coached. In that period they’ve won two flags and been convincingly beaten in finals in 2014, 2016, 2017 twice, 2018, and 2021 twice. Lost again to the Lions in a great contest, but at home after a week off you’d have to say that was a massive missed opportunity. And Scott was outcoached and forced to react to Fagan’s winning moves. The line that I hear from that Geelong did a great job this year to finish top 4 with a 9-12 list is a laughable proposition. The Cats have all Australians on every line and one of the most dynamic forward lines. They trade star players in almost every season (kudos to Scott and the recruiting team). The idea that their midfield is sub par is also laughable, crushing Port (who have one of if not the best midfield), a midfield that clearly outpointed Hawthorn a week later. Geelong, like Sydney have done a great job to remain at the top for so long but I think we give Scott too many flowers. Compare his record to Clarkson’s (4 flags from 5 attempts and only one preliminary final loss) and he’s not in the same category.
Sydney's current list and coaches won't make grandfinal again. Their damaged goods now. No way they could play a grandfinal again without any semblance of confidence.
Hope Longmire can see the writing on the wall and bow out gracefully when his contract expires end of 2025. He's had a long and successful run but his time is up at the at the Swans.
Sydney dominated this season. They didn't really get seriously challenged through the finals leading up to the GF. So maybe it was understandable they were 'cocky'. Because they definitely were. Any footage of them pre- the game shows that they thought they had it in the bag. Basically just had to turn up and the magic would continue. Whereas Brisbane knew about vulnerability and so came ready to fight. The result bears this out. So does Heeney taking leave when it was gone. Neale played on with his injury, Heeney owed it to the supporters to do the same; gritted teeth and all.
Small margins mean they beat GWS. But small margins mean that Lions finished 5 instead of 1. ‘Trust trumps tactics’ is shit. You can have both. Fagan is humble. King isn’t.

I honestly don't think the Swans have much of that "bloods" culture that won them those Premierships back in 2005 and 2012 and is shows greatly in their recruitment strategy where ever since that massive 2013 off-season when they brought in Buddy Franklin and Kurt Tippet on those ludicrous contracts they seem to mostly prioritise big flashy names. They don't really go after those hard nosed players and great leaders they had in both those Premiership teams . Guys like Lewis Roberts-Thomsom (who was robbed of that 05 Norm Smith Medal), Ted Richards, Jarrad McVeigh, Brett Kirk, Jude Bolton, Barry Hall, etc. Even their so called 3 supstar midfielders don't want to get their hands dirty put their bodies on the line to win and dominate clearances unlike Adam Goodes and Josh Kennedy. Curious to hear what some Swans fans think?
