Quick tutorial about how to replace defekt keyboard in Macbook Air model A1466
fixstudio.de
Munich / Germany
Why dremmel the rivets? If you just pull on the keyboard, the rivets will pop out. Order a keyboard with screws and use these to install, instead of gluing. Anyway, this is what I did, and it worked perfectly. BTW, if you don't want the 50 or so rivets to fly all over the place, apply clear tape to the back of the old keyboard before pulling it out. Also, plugging in the keyboard before setting it in place makes it easier to get the connector in place.
Still, thanks for the video, it did help me disassemble and reassemble my A1466. :-)
No dremel at hand, drill was too slow .. Brute force attack went butter smoth XD
Thank you mate
It's an electric screwdriver.
Thank you! Just stripped a keyboard from an Apple donor upper part using your method. For my computer, I taped the back of my keyboard and ripped it off to contain the rivets. Used a combination of screws from the donor and rivets for the rest. Thanks again!
Thanks man, this really helped me out! Two remarks: at some tricky moments (attaching tiny plugs) your hands were in the way and I couldn't see anything. Secondly, as my replacement kit came without spare keyboard screws, I divided the ones I saved over the available rivet holes, skipping every other one. That way, I didn't have to glue and it seemed strong enough.
Overall good approach however I would open the laptop 90 degrees, put the keyboard/ top case on a soft cloth on your work table and hang the screen over the edge to avoid damage to the screen. I’d run a vacuum at the same time you grind the rivets with a Dremel, to keep debris out of the case.
Thanks, I saved R$200 with this video
Thanks for the great tutorial! What kind of glue are you using ?
I have just followed this tutorial and everything has gone absolutely perfect. I connected everything back up in the same order as the video and now the MacBook wont turn on, there isn't even power when connecting the magsafe connector. No light on it this is the same with the battery connected or not. Does anyone have any ideas? :/
***edit Its working perfectly now. I had missed a screw on the A/O board which am assuming was a grounding screw. So happy. Thank you for this detailed tutorial. My 2015 macbook air now has a new lease of life!
thank you so much! with your help i was able to replace keyboard.
Thanks for the video . I have a quastion; do we have to use a glue ?
Awesome Tutorial - Thank you for your help :)
hello, thank you for the video, but could you tell me the size of the screwdriver used for keyboard screws? thank you, i have to buy it
Great tutorial. Very helpful👍
Hi there
Thank you for uploading the video.
Can i ask you which year it MacBook Air 13 is? I have 2017 and need to replace the keyboard. Same procedure?
Should've seen my face progressively watching this video. I knew it might be a pain in the ass but man, apple really goes out of their way to make this so time consuming
They don't want you to open or repair your own devices at all. That crap company is anti-user.
Thank you so much! I followed step by step and new keyboard is working great!
I dont mean to be offtopic but does anybody know a method to get back into an instagram account?
I was dumb lost my password. I love any assistance you can offer me!
@Ignacio Hugo instablaster :)
@Judah Kaden I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and im in the hacking process atm.
Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Judah Kaden It worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my ass :D
@Ignacio Hugo Happy to help =)
What was he doing with that kit after 5:57...and after removing the keyboard what was he applying along the frame
He was applying liquid metal epoxy that he bought from Amazon. Because he had to dremal out all of the plastic pieces that hold in place the keyboard you need to glue the new one to the frame of the computer. That's why he leaves the hard drive on it for 12hrs to weigh it down and stick it to the glue.
i have a question somehow my w button, its button is not attached and I can see the inside of it and a black Dot in the middle is missing so I can't type that letter only if I press on the thing where the black part is missing. this is stressing me out so please help me out
someone
Just what I needed, thank you!
does it have to be a 3TB hard disc drive? I only have a 2 TB.
9:00
it shuld be enough :D
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
2Tb doesn't have enough gigabytes to weigh it down enough. 3 is just enough, but 4Tb worth of gigs will be too heavy.
As long as it is at least 1TB you will be fine 🤣
Did you use the same led that you took off?
do you know where I can buy MacBook Keyboard with equipment that are not expensive?
Why dremel off the rivets? And why on earth expose your screen to all that metal filing? I would suggest remove screen and cover touchpad PCB with something to protect from metal filing / scratches. Also why not see which rivets pull out and then use screws to replace those that come out.
Do you have to grind the rivets, or is their another way?
Louis Rossman just rips off the old keyboard, some of rivets pop-out with a stud, leaving a hole for a screw instead: ruclips.net/video/2PyhbiwUkE0/видео.html
I am an idiot that I've used Dremel, dust is all over the place, had to use vacuum. And I doubt the epoxy gonna hold it.
Great!!! thank you vey much , I did it today so far so good.
Awesome. Helped me a lot. Thank you so much.
Thanks a lot, I did it with your help! TOP!
The thing that you’ve drilled out of the back of the keyboard is made of plastic ou metal? I was thinking of using a dentist drill, but i was afraid of damaging it because there are to many...
Hi, I’m trying to replace my keyboard. Can you tell me what brand of drivers you use? I’ve ordered a Teckman set and it just ruins the driver....
Just ripped out my A1502... only two rivets did not come out properly! Took the screen off to be safe. Waiting for the screws now. Keyboard was $30 from ifixit.
Thanks for uploading Video, I did it today.
Hi , Thank you for this video . Why did you change the keyboard ? Becaus of water falling on it ? I have the same problem wil it be fixed by changing the keyboard?
Greetings from Belgium .
Yea, liquid problem ;-)
good video, helped me a lot, big thank you
I was thinking of buying a used macbook air, I found several of them for a reasonable price (2013-2015 models) but all of them have german and one of them a russian keyboard. The price is much lower than getting one with an english/international keyboard not to mention that the machines are newer. So, is there a way I can only change the keys and not the entire keyboard without breaking the bank? And if I change the whole keyboard how much more will I pay for it?
Hi. The point is, that some of key fixing mechanism are different for example in Germany, Spain or UK, and there is no way to change just the keys. Just some of them, but you need to check it...
Good job!!! And very nice music... Relaxing! Name song?
Thanks a lot!
What to do do if the pentalobe screws located in the bottom case are damaged and don't move?
I know the pain. Try to cut it, or drill it out.
@@fixstudioTV Thanks. It's not a bad idea but I'm afraid of damaging the screw holder. Do you think it will work to stick them to another screw or the screwdriver?
This is real not easy. And it’s hard to give your some advice, without to see the problem.
@@fixstudioTV Sure, I understand. I think it would be better to take it to a service. Thanks anyway for your help!
Thank you!
Thank you!!! Super helpful.
Do I really need to glue the keyboard in place? Will it be ok without?
I don’t think so. You need to fix the keyboard in few places.
If you don't glue it in place the keys will fall down in-line with the frame they won't be raised up at all and you will have to do a kind of stabbing motion from above to type. It feels very awkward and unnatural to type like this.
As an update to my previous reply, I went to my repair store and asked them about it and they sell a set of self tapping screws to replace the rivets on macbooks. Suggest you buy the screw sets rather than trying to glue it.
@@Agret I didn't glue the keyboard at all and it sits perfectly in place. All keys nicely raised and they don't 'fall' inwards.
Thank you Bro 👍
What kind of keyboard is tjis?
I really wish I would have gone with ripping the rivets instead of grinding them down. And also the type of glue is highly important. I used the wrong kind and it ended up staining the keyboard and my screen. But other than that this is a great video
Macbook air 13-2011. Keyboard ketik angka keluar simbul. Ada solusi
what is the keyboard price
What was that device you used to remove the solder from the back of the keyboard? Can I just use a side cutter (Seitenschneider)?
German right?
MfG
Thanks
hi, what do you call the grinder you use at 6:00? thanks
Hi. It’s a small drill machine.
@@fixstudioTV Hi, yeah I zoomed in, it's a Dremel 3000, a small rotary tool
Hi. Great Video btw. Q. If you change your keyboard with a different language do you need to have any kind of additional setup in order for the laptop to accept it. Or is it straight up remove and replace?
Hi. It’s not a problem, as long the enter key have the same size - there are two different
Can you fix mine ? Caseykcrichards@gmail.com . If so where do I send it ?
Hi,
What kind of glue did you use?
Thanks fo your answer
Hi. Use some liquid metal epoxy from amazon.
So I just replaced my keyboard and now my MacBook Air won’t start or charge
Please help
Bom trabalho! Optimo.
Where to buy A(1286) 2011 late original keyboard.
8:12 can i know what glue it is?
Hi. It’s two-component epoxy: Liquide Metal TurboCall 2000. But you can use something different as well.
Very helpful, I will doing the same in 1-2 weeks with my MacBook Air (waiting for it arrive). BTW, do you offer RAM upgrades for the soldered RAM? I have 4GB and would like 8GB or 16GB.
Great!!! thank you vey much!!!!
I need this types of keyboards in nepal
Parts cost $30. Takes 20 minutes. Apple charges $600 to do. SMDH
This video is sped up like crazy. Depending how you do it. If done properly, the rivets need to be replaced not dremeled out. Apple just replaces the whole palmrest assembly. This job usually takes me about 2 hours if I pull out the rivets and try to put back the surviving ones and then glue the broken ones down with bits of card holding the keyboard against the frame while the glue sets.
Apple service centre won't change the keyboard...they will most probably change the whole part that holds the keyboard itself 🤣... that's why the high price
Is that legal?
Just do the top case as one unit , Takes no time and no special tools . eBay has many for sale
What glue are you using to put the new keyboard on? Also, thanks helps out a lot!
Liquid metal epoxy, they said it in another reply.
Gleuing it back in place? Buy the screws! Not expensive at all
Nice bro 🎉
I need this kind of keyboard skin 🥹 anyone help ? Plz
