Every time I hear someone on internet talking about us striking the number of members they report keeps going up and up. There is 35,000ish of us.

On tje longshoremen: your video has langiage such as "should not affect use". The Cruise lines need to be able t make a very explicit statement such " we have an agreement with the longshoremen union that they will not disrupt our cruise ship operations" because as of now, their statement appears to be "we have no idea if they will have impact". The cruise lines know exactly what impact this will have so their unwillingness to make an explicit statement means that there will be an impact.
We just bring reusable stainless steel water bottles and fill the up with cups of ice water. It’s better for you too, no microplastics.

$24 for 12 bottles of water. Outrageous. Still won't get a package. I'd rather pay gratuities and maybe internet. Don't use anything else, alcohol, special coffee, big desserts, exercise classes or soda. Medical reasons so don't push these packages on me. My TA knows this and has it in my file
Especially since the tap water onboard the ship has far less impurities in it than bottled water.

My NCL cruise in Nov advertised as "Bermuda and Caribbean" has cancelled the Bermuda stop! Notice from NCL ....."As we continue to optimize itineraries for fuel efficiency, as a part of our commitment to the environment and sustainability efforts." When I asked if we will save money on this cruise just like NCL......."No..thats not going to happen"

Why don't people bring their own water on the ship 11:25 ?
Typically not allowed. Each line is different but those that do allow it require it in cans not bottles and restrict the # of cans.
Everyone always straikes around the holidays. It's just not fair how these different companies have us all by the balls. My drink package on our 14-day transatlantic cruise coming up in 4 weeks is costing us $1875. That's just Insane but we can't do anything about it. My wife and i both do about 7 or 8 drinks aday including our starbucks coffees. So that's almost 2 Grand for drinks! I wish royal would do like princess. Don't complain about crew members they do alot for all of us.
Tipping should be based on the value to YOU, and not what it’s worth in the impoverished home country of the crew member who leaves home and family to work on a cruise ship. To calculate your tip on that basis is very condescending. Congratulations on enabling cheapskates to tip badly. Captain Kate did her crew no favors on this one, and neither did you, Don.
Those extra packages are a deal if you drink alcohol or are using your phone like you would at home(why) but those that don’t humm. Something to think about.
And those that don’t treat each and every crew member with the utmost dignity and respect, should stay home.
We plan to give our steward 100.00 a day. Why? Because they deserve it. I’ve seen so many entitled people. Be nice
In Quebec City Quebec middle of a back to back New England and Canada on the Norwegian Joy. Norwegian issued an advisory to all passengers about the longshoreman strike and the possibility of delay due to congestion at the terminal. Staying onboard the ship so it's a moot point for me.
All cruisers should know that the cruise lines THROTTLE the feed to slow down the WiFi to make more $$$$. And let's face it cruise channels are not that exciting that they can't wait to get shoreside to edit and publish. Crew members get a basic salary and that will be sufficient for their countries so tip when you think it is deserved. Also remember when you go to speciality restaurants the gratuity is in so be careful on tipping.
Don, you might get a giggle from this. My Dartmouth born mom, before she passed, was a big fan of two things, Holland America and white wine😊. They cruised 3-4 times a year, always with HA, and dad use to grumble about the wine prices on board, which I thought was just the Scot in him.
After they both passed, cleaning out the house we found multiple Christmas cards from HA wine stewards on multiple ships😂😂. How much wine do you have to order to get thank you cards from the Philippines😮😂😂

It's my opinion that people on social media are lying about their tipping habits on cruise ships. My last cruise I watched and almost nobody was tipping bar staff. I tipped only $1 cash per drink. I never waited, my drinks were stronger. They appreciated those dollar bills

Tips add up- if everyone gives what they can instead of throwing it in the casino, for selfish reasons, the crew can have a better deserved life! They work so hard and their load is more than ever! The cabin attendants have double their load now- don’t yell at them if you went to breakfast and came back and your cabin is still not done!! They have a system and can’t get to everyone in that timeframe!! Be respectful!!!
Princess increased price of coffee from $3 to $4 on the Royal in Alaska. Also cover charge at Sabatinis went from $35 to $45. If you have the package then it makes little difference.
A policy of driving people to the packages. It makes a division between those who don't go to speciality restaurants, drink coffees and bottled water and others. Plenty of coffee, water and food in the buffet and dining room. 😂 😂 😂
Captain Kate is awesome! People don’t realize how poor these countries are that these people who work on the cruises come from. I have an acquaintance who moved to the Philippines. And now he is living like a king because of the difference in the money, people are stupid.

If any cruiser has ever had conversations with crew they would understand how grateful they are for any tip.
We listened to the speech the union rep for the long shoreman gave. He seems pretty serious. I guess when in Rome, the mood just struck that couple. I like the fact that Captain Kate, has her crews back. That means a lot.

Our Transatlantik starts on October 23 in Southampton, followed by a caribbean cruise on the same ship.

Hi Don. Longtime follower but wanted to share with you that the longshoreman's union has an agreement in place with the cruise lines that if there is any stoppage at the port for commercial cargo, if will in no way affect the cruise lines. There should be no issues if they go on strike on October 1st.

That increase for water is another way by Princess to put pressure on passengers to buy the premium and premiere services
Have to roll your luggage on your self. The cruise lines need to figure that out before the cruise.
You can't buy two shirts or a crate of potatoes for five dollars in the United States.
Can you buy a water bottle with a filter and or water purifying tablets and use that instead of bottled water?
I find it discouraging all the nickle & dime price increases. Princess and others taking all the little things we like & trying to make you take a upgrade package. Anyway.

When we give tips to the crew (even if it’s $5 US), they do act like we just gave them $1000. They have always been SO appreciative and we tell them how much we appreciate them and if there’s anything else that we can do for them. They work so hard to make sure that we have a great vacation.
@@Cruisetravelers , so true! Our waiter for our embarkation lunch looked so genuinely grateful for the extra tip we left! I feel privileged to be able to cruise at this time in my life and always want to show extra appreciation to those that make my vacation wonderful. The daily gratuities that are included go to so many people and it really is such a small amount! Most resort fees at hotels that show up now as the norm are greater than these daily gratuities!
Rule # 1 , never go on a cruise..ever..read the fine print

On Starlink: (fictitious numbers) A ship's subscription is for say 1gbps for whole ship. The satellite's capacity might be 2gbps. Anm individual's subscription might be for say 150mbps. The ship's 1gnps would be split between all passengers giving very slow speeds.
The single user getting his 150mbps from his own antenna is still ell within the satellite's capacity so the ship won't see a difference. But put in 10 suchj users and they end wanting to use 1.5gbps while the ship wnts 1gbps on a satellite whose capacity is 2 and that is when you start to get into troouble.
So a couple of users, no problems, but if the policy allows it and everyone bring their antennas, then big problem. HOWEVER, if the ship is on Starlink, and you have an antenna for some expensive Intelsat service, then you can't interfere with the capaciyty available to the ship on Starlink and the ship has no excuse to prevent you. If they prevent this, then they logically prevent any radio. They would need a policy similar to : Any device which is a radio transmitter is banned, except for cellphone, walkie talkies, or devices whihc use wi-fi or bluetooth.
One Starlink is available on cellphones, if it is affordable at sea (assuming regulatiosn allow it) then the ship won't be able to prevent you from tethering.
When your bosses’ boss recognizes you, $5 does feel like $100. Good on ya, Captain. Mr. Richard Pricklepants is always pushing the envelope. Not a good look.
Two tip leaps. Does the employee receive $5 of a $5 tip? Usually no. Second, will that employee buy the crates of sugar or potatoes if given the $5? Usually no. US analogy and example. St. Jude's has an endowment presently of over $2B but people are hustled to give because if they don't the child will die of cancer, which some do despite all of St. Jude's resources. Tip for facts and service, not for emotion and hustle.
I am actually going on a 7 day Boston Cruise, up to Canada, on the 29nth. So if they do close the cruise ports. I'll already be on the ship. And maybe get a few more days on it as well XD. So it'll be interesting to see. I will say, if you are going on a cruise soon and they do strike. Better hope you got the Travel Insurance!!!!!

Ya, we were going to order water ahead just yesterday and were SHOCKED it went up to $24. NO way...
On Regent you receive aluminum water bottles in your room to keep and can fill them at the distilled water dispensers before disembarking for your shore excursions. I have seen very few of those microplastic dispensers on board.
Sure hope my cruise on October 3 out of Baltimore is going to happen! We have a nine day cruise up to Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick ❤

the strike will probably effect you... but completely not in the way you think...
you see, many plane parts get shipped into the US from abroad, so, as the strikes effects take hold, it is quite likely that maintenance of airplanes will become more difficult and you will more often get flights canceled or delayed due to technical issues (which might have been fixed immediately had they a surplus of parts, but now, they have to have the part flown in from some other storehouse, which takes days or weeks rather than hours)
And when the prices go up they don't come back down when the supply goes back to normal

As an avid cruiser I always bring water or coffee thermos onboard to refill dayly at restaurants on the ship.
