    Your channel is such a breath of fresh air. You break down in great detail what I've been trying to bring to the attention of my tennis partners for years. Where you hit the ball is more important than how hard you hit it. Plus, it helps predict where your opponents return shot will come back to, setting up your court position and preparation for the next shot. My friends say, "You play singles much better than doubles." I say it's because only I control where my shots are going. I'm not sure they really get what i mean by that. With your channel, now they will get it. Maybe i won't share your channel with them (sorry) and just keep beating them in singles. 😂 BTW, how about more of your theories as applied to doubles? Recreational doubles is very popular, and there is very little of your much needed strategy approach out there about it. Here are some pretty good tips from Tennis Beyond check out the one on isolation. Link below:

    Will try this in my next match! I have a question for you: When should you change this up, so it's not a pattern that your opponent gets used to? I recently played a match vs a player with a weak serve. I sliced most returns low and my opponent struggled getting the second ball over the net. Was up 5-0. Then I figured I might as well continue doing this as it was going so great, but then the opponent started figuring it out. I won the match in the end, but it did got me thinking on when do I stop doing something that is working so well?

    • @tennistactics
      @tennistactics  22 дня назад +4

      Good question! Because its based on where your opponent hits their serve, it will likely be rare they catch on to your pattern. But my general rule of thumb for mixing things up is usually like once every other game.
      I have it on my list to do a whole video on primary and secondary plays and how to mix it up while staying high percentage!

    Love Collins! I'm a lefty - how should I apply this tactic? If I receive an inside serve on the deuce side would I use my forehand to go straight? Outside serve backhand cross court? I recognize lefties are a bit of a niche market, but it would be great if you can offer suggestions from time to time 😀

    • @tennistactics
      @tennistactics  17 дней назад +2

      Great question!!! This inside/outside serve model is actually the same for lefties and righties. You are correct, Deuce side, inside serve = lefty forehand straight ahead.
      Deuce side, outside serve = lefty backhand cross.
      Depending on your match up of your bh. and your opponents fh, I might be careful with that one.

    SUMMARY: (for righthander to righthander): if you get the serve on backhand, return to the server's backhand; if you get the serve on your forehand in the deuce court, return to the server's forehand.
    But, if you get the serve on your forehand in the ad court - well, he didn't cover that (presumably, it doesn't exist?).....

    • @tennistactics
      @tennistactics  17 дней назад +1

      Haha it never happened in this match, but if you’re following this pattern you’d aim the inside forehand straight ahead.
      It would get your opponent on the run right away and still be a high percentage play. It’s a good move to mix in.

  • @LaSalviaBodysurf
    @LaSalviaBodysurf 3 дня назад

    hmm I think its much simpler than that. She did that to mantain the trajectory of the ball, in every return. If it goes wide, you cross, if its T you go straight. Since you dont have to change directions is so much easier to return with quality. You made good points tho

    • @tennistactics

    • @tennistactics
      @tennistactics  22 дня назад +4

      Good question! You will hear me use this term a lot and I am always referring to the first ball you hit after you hit either the serve or return!
      Technically its either the 3rd or 4th ball of the rally depending on whether you are the server or returner, but in the mind of the player, I find it helpful to talk just in terms of what they need to do. So i orient them around either their serve or return and then the first ball they hit after that.
