This video was in response to a question about how to attack backhand returns!! More good stuff on the way! Please subscribe to my channel! And feel free to comment below for requests of what you want to see!
Makes sense! I put your Return of 1st Serve tactics into play yesterday against a better opponent. It worked!
YES! These are the comments I'm here for! 👊🏻
I like your content a lot. Nothing unnecessary...direct and to the point.
Thank you! I’ll keep it coming with more of my good stuff! 🫡
This channel is so goated thanks very much for the tips G
Yo! Thank you for the feedback! It's awesome to hear people are enjoying it and I'll do my best to keep it up!
Your channel is such a breath of fresh air. You break down in great detail what I've been trying to bring to the attention of my tennis partners for years. Where you hit the ball is more important than how hard you hit it. Plus, it helps predict where your opponents return shot will come back to, setting up your court position and preparation for the next shot. My friends say, "You play singles much better than doubles." I say it's because only I control where my shots are going. I'm not sure they really get what i mean by that. With your channel, now they will get it. Maybe i won't share your channel with them (sorry) and just keep beating them in singles. 😂 BTW, how about more of your theories as applied to doubles? Recreational doubles is very popular, and there is very little of your much needed strategy approach out there about it. Here are some pretty good tips from Tennis Beyond check out the one on isolation. Link below:

Thank you for all the kind words, my friend! I totally know what you’re talking about. And Yes! Doubles stuff is in the pipeline! I have a bunch of great doubles stuff in my head, I’d love to get out there! So, I have a few things planned in front of that, but it’s coming! 🙌🏻
This is a great niche in the tennis space! I wish you the best for growth and success on here 👍🏼
Hey, thank you so much! I’ll keep bringing my good stuff and hopefully it just gets better and better! 🫡
Just discovered your channel! Just what I've been looking for! Really good information. I'll be sure to give it a like
Hey, I appreciate that! I'll keep it coming! 💪🏻
Fantastic analysis. Thank you for doing this.
Absolutely! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Excited to keep going!
Awesome, your videos are super learning !
Hey, thanks for saying that! Be sure to stick around, I have a lot more to teach!
Really good advise. Now I just need a 2 handed backhand 😀
😂 You got this!
Great stuff. Looking forward to more videos
On their way!! Really glad you’re enjoying them! If you like these early ones, I think they’ll just get better and better! 🙌🏻
This is absolute gold. It’s rare you find a channel with concise evidence based teaching. I remember finding Jeff Nippard for lifting back in the day and was really excited to implement what I learned. Same feeling here. You earned a new subscriber. Great video.
Thank you, my friend! I love those kind of channels too, so that's a real compliment! Also, I think you're really going to like some of the stuff I have in the pipeline if that's what you're into! 👀
Amaaaaaaazing
Your videos are the best in tactics
Yo!! That’s the goal!! Thanks for the compliment! I’ll keep it going 🫡
Very useful information 🙏👍
Glad you liked it! I'm planning on going DEEP on tennis strategy here! If that's what you're into, you'll like what's coming! 🎯
Brilliant, hope tomsee more.
I'll make it happen!! I have some fun stuff coming out next!
This was fascinating. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! I go DEEP on this stuff, so I'm glad to find other people find this stuff fascinating too! I'm stoked everyone is liking it!
@@tennistactics Yeah, it was great. I've always admired Danimal's return-of-serve, particularly on the backhand side. Your break down gave it so much more depth.
@@GhostofGerulaitis I love to hear that kind of feedback!! I'm the same, I like to really really appreciate the nuances of all these players and go deep on what makes them unique. Stoked that you enjoy stuff like this!
Thank you so much! I Love your videos! Huge advantage right away, and so easy to apply regardless of the level (I am a bit advanced beginner) matches became simpler and live some space for highlight shots when I am ahead.
If you were looking for what to shoot next, I would love to see some tactics on playing around the score, I'm guessing there are plenty of value there by playing some points less/more aggressive, or some may be even fully defensive in particular score situations.
Hey, thank you for the feedback! I'm stoked you enjoyed it! Definitely stick around because I have a lot of good stuff in the queue!
I'll add your suggestions to the list!
@@tennistactics I would certainly hit the join button if there were one just saying :D
@@BazaroffM 😂 It's on my radar, but you'll have to stay tuned! Lots of stuff in the pipeline right now!
But if you subscribe now you won't miss it when I get there, just saying :D
@@tennistactics oh yeah I'm on all notification mode and still checking it every minute :D that's how hooked I am :D
@@BazaroffM 😂 You're awesome! K, consider it on the list! We'll talk soon haha
85% is crazy!!
Riiight!? 🤯
So excellent. Love your channel 🏆🎾
Hey! Appreciate that, man! Working hard to put some good stuff out here!
Hey just subscribed! Really like your channel- could you do a video on Patrick Rafter serve volley tactics? It’s really tough to find anything serve volley related tactics used on RUclips
Hey, thank you!! I really appreciate you saying that!! I am definitely going to do some serve and volley stuff!! I have a different serve and volley match analysis coming out soon, but a Rafter analysis would be a fun idea! I will add it to my list!
What a beast! 🤯 (I’m talking about both you and Collins)
😂 If I can teach tennis strategy as well as Collins hits returns, I'll be in good shape!
I love your channel!! Which tools are u using to cut your videos? It’s so good!!
Thanks! Stoked to hear you enjoy it! All made with Adobe software!
0:04 "Danielle Collins is a monster....". I stopped the video right there. AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH?!
🤣🤣🤣 they call her “Dan-yellllll”
great! I am going to test it on saturday... But what about for the next lesson a first serve return tatics?
Check out his video on how Novak breaks 1 in 3 serves. It has some awesome tactics you could try for first serve returns!
YES! The Djokovic video I put out last week is great for neutralizing the first serve advantage! There are many tactics that might be useful, but the tactics in that video are a great start! More to come! 👀
I’m always having to interpret the tactics as a lefty. It’s often not just putting it through a mirror
I sympathize with you! I should do some lefty specific videos - maybe a Rafa deep dive!? I’ll keep this in mind!!
greetings from the youtube algorithm
Thanks for stopping by!
Will try this in my next match! I have a question for you: When should you change this up, so it's not a pattern that your opponent gets used to? I recently played a match vs a player with a weak serve. I sliced most returns low and my opponent struggled getting the second ball over the net. Was up 5-0. Then I figured I might as well continue doing this as it was going so great, but then the opponent started figuring it out. I won the match in the end, but it did got me thinking on when do I stop doing something that is working so well?
Good question! Because its based on where your opponent hits their serve, it will likely be rare they catch on to your pattern. But my general rule of thumb for mixing things up is usually like once every other game.
I have it on my list to do a whole video on primary and secondary plays and how to mix it up while staying high percentage!
Great videos. No nonsense.
Hey, thanks! Glad you like my style haha I’m pretty direct. 😂
@@tennistactics So am I. No ten minutes intros, no clickbaits. Just great and everything correct as far as I can see. You should write a book. Thanks for these videos!
@@robertdonner5038 Writing a book has always been an aspiration of mine! haha I think that would be really cool one day.
@@tennistactics I‘d buy it, consider this your first order!
@@robertdonner5038 😂 K, deal!
Love Collins! I'm a lefty - how should I apply this tactic? If I receive an inside serve on the deuce side would I use my forehand to go straight? Outside serve backhand cross court? I recognize lefties are a bit of a niche market, but it would be great if you can offer suggestions from time to time 😀
Great question!!! This inside/outside serve model is actually the same for lefties and righties. You are correct, Deuce side, inside serve = lefty forehand straight ahead.
Deuce side, outside serve = lefty backhand cross.
Depending on your match up of your bh. and your opponents fh, I might be careful with that one.
thanks so much!
I need an analysis for Tommy Paul serve, simple and fluid. If you can help 😊
Ooh, that would be fun! I’ll keep it in mind but I have a bunch of strategy stuff on my plate right now for the next few videos! But I’ll keep it on the list of requests!!
SUMMARY: (for righthander to righthander): if you get the serve on backhand, return to the server's backhand; if you get the serve on your forehand in the deuce court, return to the server's forehand.
But, if you get the serve on your forehand in the ad court - well, he didn't cover that (presumably, it doesn't exist?).....
Haha it never happened in this match, but if you’re following this pattern you’d aim the inside forehand straight ahead.
It would get your opponent on the run right away and still be a high percentage play. It’s a good move to mix in.
hmm I think its much simpler than that. She did that to mantain the trajectory of the ball, in every return. If it goes wide, you cross, if its T you go straight. Since you dont have to change directions is so much easier to return with quality. You made good points tho
That is really well said! 😂 sometimes I am guilting of over explaining when I teach, but this would have been a good summary!
5:18 what do you mean by first ball? Appears contrary to rules 1 & 2.
Good question! You will hear me use this term a lot and I am always referring to the first ball you hit after you hit either the serve or return!
Technically its either the 3rd or 4th ball of the rally depending on whether you are the server or returner, but in the mind of the player, I find it helpful to talk just in terms of what they need to do. So i orient them around either their serve or return and then the first ball they hit after that.
When is the next one ?
Working on it now!! Look out for it this week! I think this next one is pretty cool! 🙌🏻
So Collin's genius tactic is to get Iga to serve to Collin's strength? Surely that's just Iga not doing her homework and/or not being very aware?
🤣 I do think it’s funny we didn’t see Iga adjust a bit more. I bet she looks back on that and shakes her head a bit haha but it makes the match a good case study!
Kinda makes sense and it helps that you’re cute
Agreed, definitely cute! 😍
😅
This is a really long way to say she always returns across her body, but cool nonetheless.
There were 3 points in there, he summarises them at the end
- she hits outside serves cross court
- she heads inside serves straight
- she hits the return of her return cross court
😂 That describes my job as a coach so well.... "basically, this. but yeah, all that was cool too." haha
but I do think its fun to dive into different ways to look at it! And I think its fun to be able to put exactly what's in my head in front of whoever is watching. I like to be specific I guess. 😅
Spot on! 👊🏻
Don't care, not real tennis
What?
UTR 13's are pretty solid, dog... 🤷🏻♂️
