  • Spider-Man 2 is finally here and it took no more than a day for players to have platinum'd the entire thing. It is a great game, but is it a contender for Game of the Year?
The video is an honest review of Spiderman 2 on the PS5.
Game time is split between playing as Peter Parker and Mile Morales. You fight your way across New York City battling against many of the franchise's bad guys such as Venom, Kraven, Martin-Li, Scorpion and Lizzard. There campaign is fantastic, intertwining stories between Peter and Miles as well as MJ, Harry and a whole bunch of other characters.
But is 25 hours too short for a AAA, single player on game? Especially one that comes at a premium price and has no new game plus mode? Is this really just a Spiderman DLC? And what about the numerous bugs and crashes? Spider man block bug? Characters getting stuck and disappearing crimes. Is it worth the money? Is Spider-Man 2 worth buying?

Spot on with every piece of praise and criticism. I couldn't believe the campaign was only about 15 hours, and it showed. The length significantly hampered what was an amazing story by rushing too many things

Totally agree, feels like wasted potential to me, hoping it wasn't just a way of holding on to content for $$ DLC.

with the ssd i was expecting way more dynamic worlds in games that would keep you playing for months... But instead we are getting linear games in ana open world setting. While the swinging and traversel was freaken amazing in this one and was beautifull it does not scream inovation and creativity

It started to feel like a re-used asset to me, maybe a change of scenery/city? Either way, I'm holding out a lot of hope for FFVII Rebirth. If it gets anywhere close to the original's expansive world, it could be unbelievable!

Thanks for the review. One thing I'll say is that I beat the game a couple of weeks ago and probably put around 30 hours or so into it and I didn't encounter any game-breaking glitches. I can't even remember coming across any minor glitches. So, either I got lucky or Insomniac has been fixing the game since it came out. Hopefully, anyone who decides to play it now will have a similar experience.

I've been replaying it a bit on the Portal over the last week and I agree, it seems like a lot of the bugs have been fixed (including the crime fighting one which was driving me crazy at the time!). I'm hoping that when the new game + mode comes out, it'll be a smooth experience. Glad you've had a blast though!

@@TheGameFatherUK Actually, now that I think about it, one glitch I DID get that softlocked me was when (SPOILER WARNING) Peter is hanging out with Harry and MJ at the festival. There were prompts to sit on the benches, but if you sit on the bench, there isn't a prompt to get back up. So, Peter is just stuck sitting there. 😅 Reloading the last auto-save is easy enough, but that's one funny glitch I came across.

I have to disagree with your ragnarok take. I get where youre coming from but i think any direct sequel is gonna feel somewhat like an expansion pack because youre being thrown in with the same characters same story in the same time. however i think spiderman suffers far worse than gow did when it comes to this, gow at least imporoved in many ways, i think spiderman kinda regressed.

The bugs are the biggest reason why I don’t wanna play high graphic games like this. I had more fun with a worse looking Avatar game. Sure there were some bugs in it but it was the first time that I was actually able to play a game and enjoy it. I enjoyed playing a bad game (that didn’t crash once when I played through the story) more then a great game that I am actually excited about that I am expecting to crash a lot since that has been my general experience with games like this.

Excellent review! I picked it up just recently for $40, and all of the bugs you encountered are fixed and there is NG+. I disagree that the first one is better, the story here is just exceptional and the boss fights are so much better and more challenging. Kraven especially was a very exciting villain and excellently portrayed.
I always wait until a price drop until I buy a game, then bugs will also be fixed. It is sad that you have to do that to enjoy a game properly, but that is the current state of gaming.

Yeah I'm glad they sorted the bugs and NG+. Do you think they'll need to do something a bit special in the next rather than just new story and new bosses? I felt a bit like the NYC world was getting a bit old by the end of it. But then again, it's Spiderman and NYC is home.

Gameplay is good. The story surrounding Pete sucks. Pete is painted as an ineffectual loser who constantly needs saving by Miles. Game should have been called Miles Morales 2. To top it off there is no redemption arc for Pete. The game is good if your a Miles fan. Guess were lucky Miles is the new spider - man going forward. I wont be buying the next one. 7/10

Thankyou! Got amazing reviews but everyone questioned why it didnt get nominated for game of the year. Its fun but could stand up better and felt a bit dated. Loved the post apocolyptic 1950 sci fi film vibe, found the ever expanding portfolio of collectables disengaging and a spoof for a shorter game. Im glad i played it and its fun but just felt missing something...

Yeah, it's a solid game, even better now that a lot of the initial bugs are fixed. Whatever they do next, it can't just be another story with the same set of things to do, they have to think more outside the box next time in my opinion.

The game time is the game time though. Unless you're just endlessly fighting crimes and re-doing the mysterium challenges then there is still only 30ish hours of gameplay. Whether that takes you 3 days or 3 weeks to do, it's still the same amount of game time.

Yes. It should. 25 hours is what I wish other games would shoot for. If it goes beyond that, it’s just fluff or monotonous tasks. People think every game needs 100 hours of content. It’s ridiculous.

    • @TheGameFatherUK
      @TheGameFatherUK  9 месяцев назад

Nobody wants 100 hours of monotone. But 40-50 hours of quality would be great. 25 hours for £70 doesn't seem like good value to me, especially for a platinum trophy. I'd even take the 25 hours if there was some decent replay-ability at the end.

The story in the game is great, loved it. But the speed at which Peter went from good guy to bad guy was far too fast. At least it was a bit more gradual with Harry.
