Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man and its sequel spin-off Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales. The game is out now, and this video will aim to help you decide if it is worth purchasing, of course, with as few spoilers as possible. I’ll be showing the first 2 hours of gameplay, anything that's been shown in trailers, and some out of context crime fighting, so expect minor gameplay spoilers and a few story spoilers. I also cannot stress this enough: if you are watching this review to decide if the game is worth the time and money, make sure you watch other reviews to be sure of your purchase. I’ve been wrong before when evaluating games and will continue to be flawed. One final bit of context is my biases. The largest is that I am a massive Spider-Man fan and would have paid $110 for this game, and in fact I did, you know... Canadian Economic Crisis yadee yada.
So with all of that said, let’s see if Spider-Man 2 is the sequel we’ve all been waiting for, or if it’s, aw who are we kidding the game is great. It’s twice the action, twice the world size, twice the spider, and twice the men! I had some lofty expectations for this game and in nearly every aspect Insomniac cleared those expectations. There are obviously so many moments I can’t talk about but the amount of times something would happen in the game that I thought was never going to happen leading up to the release was insane, and my jaw was on the floor for most of the playthrough. Its gameplay is improved in some areas, worse in others, its world is massive, and its story is both balls to the wall but grounded at the same time. It truly feels as though Insomniac has lived up to their own ambitions and any fan of the first games is probably already playing it. But, if you aren’t convinced yet, Allow me to break down my thoughts, beginning with the presentation.
So, to answer the question the title posed, is Spider-Man 2 worth your money? If you’re a Spider-Man fan, yes. If you enjoyed the first game and Miles Morales, yes. If you didn’t like the first game, and thought it was boring, then this likely won’t change your mind. It is a sequel in its truest form, building off the foundations of its predecessor, but not changing it fundamentally. Another valid question, is this a console seller? Maybe. If you’ve been wanting a PS5 and haven’t played the Spider-Man games yet or only played one, then I’d say having the insomniac catalogue on a console is a great choice, but with how most of the recent PS5 exclusives are coming to PC a year or two after release, I think you’re fine to wait if you really don’t want to buy a console.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the latest release from Insomniac games. Spider-Man 2, or Marvels Spiderman 2 is the follow up to Marvel's Spider-Man and Spider-Man Miles Morales. Peter Parker is back and in this Spider-Man 2 review we will discuss if you should buy the game. Make sure this is not the only Spiderman 2 Review you watch, as a diverse set of opinions will help you make the best purchase. This mild Spider-Man 2 analysis will feature Spider-Man 2 gameplay but I want this to be a spoiler free review, so certain quests and Spider-Man 2 suits will not be discussed. Spider-Man PS5 is the new Spider-Man game we have been waiting for all the way from it's black suit gameplay, to it's insane story. The Spider-Man 2 black suit is shown in this Spider-Man 2 spoiler free review, but it will mostly be during the Spider-Man 2 free roam segments in between missions.
Hey guys, beware reading the comments, there are already some spoilers down there, and it will be tough to moderate them all! Hope you're all enjoying the game! I'll have a full critique of the game in a few months, likely when they patch in NG+ and a few other things. I really want to let the game sit with me for a bit. Thanks :)
Also I’m aware that the new areas are part of NY, I just referred to them as separate locations so they aren’t confused with the main portion of the city that was featured in the first two games.

13:06 I'd argue Miles has this problem even more. This story is adapting comics that only should have one spiderman, and all the villains are peter's too. Miles comes in out of nowhere and resolves Peter's plots when he was the one that really should've resolved it.
The mission with a certain cat, saving (spoilers) at the end, killing a certain villain (not miles), being the one to actually have a noticable effect on the final boss, and having to snap Peter back instead of him coming to his own realization. Miles does all that, while Peter is like the main guy for 80% of it while he just comes in at the end. Most of these aren't that bad, but when combined, they leave a sour taste in my mouth.
Peter just feels much less capable by himself than he does in the 1st game, constantly needing harry or mj to turn off a switch or miles to directly save him.
It's like the opening of MM, but for the whole game. Miles's storyline is pretty uninteresting for most of it too.
The handling of Peter and the feeling that they shoved in Miles out of obligation is why I think the story is worse than the og, but still better than MM by a long shot due to having a much better main lead (not saying miles is bad, peter is just better).
i’d argue that peter is fairly capable until he gets the black suit, where he turns so aggressive he stops thinking and planning which results in miles having to save his ass so often, didn’t bother me as much as it did others though
I whole-heartedly agree! And the tease for a certain other character at the end makes me kind of worried because it feels like what makes Peter special (not only his personality but you know, the fact that he's Spider-Man) is not so special anymore. In my mind, there should only be one active Spider-Man at a time. I get that it's cool to have Miles as a secondary Spidey or whatever, but stories are much more suspenseful and interesting when the world is on just one Spider-Man's shoulders.
In Miles' game, they had to nerf Peter at the beginning and sure, people can have their own canons as to what happened or why he almost died against someone he's proved he can beat more than once, but the truth of the matter is that the plot just had to be like that. Miles is put on the backburner a lot in this game and while I appreciate that it's mostly Peter's game, I very much dislike the fact that Miles is treated like he's almost on par with him. I understand why, but it sucks to see Peter nerfed this hard for the plot. I love the game to death and I love Miles too, but I just don't think the two mesh together that well. I've always thought that Miles works best when he's a successor to Peter, rather than working alongside him. It's why I also dislike the implications of other Marvel characters existing in this universe because even if somehow both Peter and Miles died and the worst case scenario happened, the Avengers or Dr. Strange could just swoop in and save the situation.
Overall, I love Miles' and Peter's relationship but I think they should have had different things to do that related to each other's story, rather than Miles pretty much just taking care of whatever problem Peter was going through.
I don't want to play a game where OG Spidey is sidelined :( They've ruined him enough in the comics. He may not be real but poor guy needs a break, they're torturing him constantly in comics.
Stop complaining they gave us a game with both 😭😭😭😭😭 it’s not real life Peter is a fake character bro relax
@@Istandwithisrael4ever stop complaining about me complaining bro 😭😭😭😭😭 it's just media criticism of a fake character bro relax
I'm just so proud of insomniac. From my favorite ratchet and clank games in the ps2 almost 20 years ago, to making this amazing game. Favorite game company by a mile.
This is the best super hero game I’ve ever played. This game improves on everything the original game then and more.
The only downsides in this game in my opnion are the lack of new game+ (will be fixed), lack of day/weather changer (probably will be fixed), mediocre peter suits (lots are good however I'm really annoyed at how many slots are filled with movie skins instead of the comic suits (hope dlc will add more variety), the only story related issue i had was the musical culture related missions (just felt bland compared to the rest).
However holy shit did this game blow my expectations. Great boss battels, great mechanics, character arcs were amazing and everything just flowed together so smoothly, the game was challenging but rewarding, THEY MADE MJ FUN TO PLAY, miles suits were great, and amazing story. This game is easily a 11/10
Insomniac so far has had zero misses with there spiderman games and i cant wait for the eventual 3rd game.
Just beat the game, and I feel the exact same way. I was hoping to see some new Peter suits, but as I continued to unlock them I just found more movie suits. Ironically, at first I was kind of worried that we weren’t going to get enough Tom Holland suits because I noticed a pattern where Tobey and Andrew had two costumes each, with their most iconic looks. I noticed the Tom ones I unlocked were the hybrid suit and the homemade, which meant they left out my favorite ones, the black and red FFH and final swing NWH suits. But I unlocked them, and continued to unlock more of them until I wondered why they did it. Did we really need the stealth suit and black and gold one that are so easily replaceable?
One other odd complaint I have was that they made the Iron Spider arms so prominent for Peter’s gameplay until you get the black suit. I’m kind of torn on it, since on the one hand it shows how much Insomniac’s Peter has grown and has to rely on new tricks, in order to make him on par with Miles in a gameplay sense. But on the other, it doesn’t really fit well with every version of Spider-Man, including the alternate versions that you can dress up as. And you have to parry with either the legs or the symbiote depending on where you are in the story, and you’re stuck with a weird one in the post game.
Otherwise, I can’t get enough of this game, I really can’t wait until they add new game plus.
How are those infinite post-game symbiote crimes that shouldn't exist because you destroyed them all in the story treating you?
@@Kazeromaru it got rid of most not all. There fun to so I don't mind.
MJ will never be fun to play... worst parts of these games by a mile
@Kazeromaru same thing in all these games... what do you want to do post game, just sit on a rooftop?
This is easily my favorite superhero game of all time. My only issue is no new game plus and some small technical issues.
It’ll all be fixed man, and new game plus will come with an update.
As someone who just got the platinum like 20 minutes ago I’ll say it is an amazing game but has a few issues mainly no NG+ mission replay ability and some cosmetic stuff but said issues are being worked on by insomniac and on track to be changed by the end of the year
TLDR: I’ve 100% completed the game and it is great except tiny issues. 10/10 would recommend
I think the big problem is the lack of re-playability. I platinumed the game Saturday (I got it when it came out on Friday) and there’s nothing else to really do. All crimes are too easy, the tech crates are just kind of filler with no real substance and no reward when you have everything, you can’t replay hunter bases or **SPOILER** symbiote nests. You can only really just free roam and do the mysterio challenges (which are incredibly easy keeping in mind that you’ll have a fully upgraded miles by the end of the story) the world just feels kind of empty. It’s double the size but it’s very much lacking in differential and sustaining content. The side missions are good but all of the hunter bases and nests feel too easy. Some of the EMF stuff is fun but a lot of it is just tedious. The story is great but it feels like it’s running out of time towards the later half. The symbiote abilities and evolved venom are fun to use but they vastly outperform all of the enemies and make it almost impossible to lose (and I played on spectacular) especially because I pre-ordered the deluxe edition so I got a few early skill points that I spent in the dual skill tree, I always felt too strong. It gets worse when you get anti-venom though. First off I don’t like how it looks but that aside. It makes all symbiote enemies completely obsolete (besides venom) and because by this point at least for me I had a complete skill tree, the symbiote abilities felt way too strong. The nests were a power trip and besides the last boss fight, everything felt way too easy. And then after that I didn’t really have any content to do because yet again, everything just felt like I was bullying everyone for no real reward seeing as I already had all the suits, suit tech and gadgets. I love the game a lot but I’d really like more things to do now that I’ve finished it
play on ultimate then considering difficulty is one of your major gripes.
Yea I don't think it has good replay value. I still think Miles Morales might be my favorite 1..the best thing about Miles Morales is u can select a specific mission to go back and play
@@BreakHarpe yea they gotta add that to this game 100%
The fact that they didn’t include replayable enemy bases was just surprising. It’s such an obvious thing to bring back in the second game. Also don’t know why we don’t have combat challenges or a “endless wave of enemies” combat challenge. This would add a lot of replayability and also give us reason to use Venom again. Just like how we were able to play as Joker and other characters in the Arkham games.
I finished the game and I LOVE IT. I played a little bit of Spiderman Remastered on my PC afterwards and just everything just felt outdated compared to the new systems that are in Spiderman 2. The story I was onboard with the whole way through, the ending had both my Dad and I on the edges of our seats (even if I kept dying cause I was playing on the hardest difficulty lol)
As someone who loved Spiderman PS4/Remastered, THIS was the game I have been waiting ages for.
I’m not even a Spider-man or superhero comic guy and I couldn’t resist buying this after seeing the incredible next-gen experience Insomniac has created. PS5 continues to blow my mind and this game is yet another generation-defining game.

@@mondsgesandter I heard about that glitch. It self locks if you sit on a bench but yeah luckily you can just restart and not be far away

I’m loving this game. I’m taking my time doing plenty of side stuff and free roam. I have swing assist turned down to zero and that makes the swinging a lot more fun and more challenging. The combat is also hard as well. I found myself dying which didn’t normally happen in the first game and the spin-off. The suit selection is really good. I do love the default suits for Peter and Miles as well. Peters was vastly improved and Miles had some nice new design features that made it better but you still get the option to use the original suits if you preferred them. The opening Sandman boss had me on the edge of my seat and I was very impressed with it because of how it used the power of the Ps5 to showcase the scale of the fight. Kraven is every bit as menacing and badass as I hoped and I really like his design and main theme. He feels very strong especially in a scene that I don’t want to spoil but you’ll probably know what I’m talking about when you get to it. The web wings are a lot of fun to use as well as the water surfing and slingshot mechanics. The graphics and art design are stunning. New York looks like the true bustling metropolis it is in real life and every frame made my jaw drop to the floor. The combat is great as well adding in a satisfying parry mechanic some fun new abilities for Peter and Miles as well as stronger foes for you to fight and more overwhelming odds.

towards the end it does feel like they started to get a bit overzealous and tried to squeeze in a bit too much, but it was things that you could tell that are just a bit too much at the time, but not enough for the next game, and wouldn’t make sense for dlc.
overall i think they should’ve slowed down a bit though. venom was cool but everything else around him made it feel like venom as a character came and went. could tell which type of venom they were taking inspiration from and the type we ended up with is why i kinda wish they just built up an eddie brock venom

At 8:35 was that boss MJ?😂 I died to her the most(about 4/5 times) because she was whooping my ass😭
My main story gripe is that I feel like we should of seen Peter do more in the black suit to warrant him being “so sorry” about everything he did
Just hit 100% on my first play through. The game was definitely worth the wait.
(SPOILERs) Having Agent Venom, Peter with the Symbiote, Venom, Scream, and Anti-Venom was really awesome. Getting to rampage as Venom was much appreciated as well. My only critique would be the Symbiote invasion portion and the final battle. Felt like they overplayed Venom. If they switched the ending up a bit it’d probably be a perfect game in my opinion.
Also spoilers lol
I personally liked the symbiote invasion, kinda reminded me of web of shadows but I get why most people wouldn’t like it. I think the main problem with it is that it’s so over the top and raises the steaks so high that I’m not sure how they’re gonna top it for the fourth game.
@@trafficcone7344i think the stakes will be far more personal in the fourth, i wouldn’t even be shocked if SPOILER:
norman ends up killing mj or miles, as they’ve been building miles as this perfect spider-man for a couple games now, and it would be the push that norman needs to be a real climactic final villain
@@proudofyoudick ooo that would be really ballsy. I really like Miles and MJ but that would be really interesting to see. I doubt they would kill off Miles since he’s so popular right now but I can see them killing off MJ and maybe introducing Gwen so that it would be like an inverse of what they did in the comics.
I’m trying to justify buying a ps5 just to play this game. I have the other 2 on ps4 and I enjoy playing both games over and over. Thing is I don’t really have much interest in other games I could never go online a play shooters on the same 4 or 5 maps like other people. I just wish they would have made it for the ps4.
Im in the same boat, I love story games and I love replaying them so I feel like getting a ps5 could make that more enjoyable with updated graphics, but is it really worth the 500 dollar price tag?
Just got the symbiote in game! Can’t wait for your full in depth video🔥
2:48 quick public service announcement/lesson in new york city anatomy, New York City is comprised of five different boroughs, Manhattan (first two games), Queens, Brooklyn (new additions), Staten Island, and The Bronx. This is in no way meant to offend anyone's intelligence, just a quick lesson in geography if you didn't already know. Fuhgeddaboudit or whatever you think we say.
I swear the Peter face model in any scene has this psycho grin all the time. Probably thinking about all the criminals hes crippled to avoid killing them. Throwing a 60lb man hole cover at someone's skull is fine but death is where we cross the line. 😅
I requested 2 days off from work and got the platinum in like 16 hours 💀
I’m weak.
I really love this game, it is a sheer pure rush of emotion thank you aqua for this non-spoiler review.
Now that I’ve beat the game I’ve returned scratch my comment on the bulkiness of enemies for 2 reasons. 1: by endgame if I wanna show off my moves these enemies need to be bulkier. 2: it’s a Spider-Man game the bulkiness of enemies is to incentivize the unique aspect of webbing enemies up which kinda negates the health bar. Sure the bigger enemies are an issue then but you can stock your focus and abilities and even an ultimate and you’ll probably clear through the brutes
YES ITS WORTH BUYING!. Especially if you enjoyed the first ones!!!
You had me when you said..."Twice the men..." I did right there. Facts!!!!
Can you do a superman returns or xmen origins wolverine uncaged edition video. Pretty cool superhero games
Ooo good choices, definitely some forgotten about games you have mentioned there 😮🤩
Ive seen alot of negative things about this game and I feel like the only people that dislike the game are the people that don’t really care for spiderman. And thats okay. You dont have to like spiderman but to discredit the game because of personal bias is crazy. When this game expands on nearly everything we love the franchise for which makes it good by default.
MJ looks like the thugs in the game ESG is ruining gaming stop supporting woke
@@marcomendiola8381 i didnt say the game was perfect now. There are tons of things wrong with the game and i think they are going a lil too woke but i dont think that makes the game bad. The story and gameplay itself is still good.
I started playing last night and after a couple of hours I can say it's much faster and smoother than the last game looking forward to going back on it tonight after work
Gliding on water is a personal fav
At least aqua gave a quick review, everyone online is already posting the ending to ruin it for everyone else
Also quick side note to whoever doesn’t own the game just yet buy it it’s well worth the time and money and you can change how you want the web swinging if you want a more realistic feel
I think the puzzles are a lot better in this game atleast to me. I thought they weren’t as bad as the ones from the first game but I mostly just skipped them because I had the option too😂
Ngl were they?💙🤣 didn’t feel close to bad if I remember
I like both thpu i just like puzzles in general
I platinumed the game in two days after release lmao. So great dude
I hate when faces change it's really break the immersion
Already at the final mission, but I've been dragging my feet because I don't want the game to end when I can't play NG+ 😂
"Twice the men" bro what 🤨🤨
At 3:15 I died the exact same way 😂. Same building position and everything
I just want gadgets back.
AHHH SAME 😭😭😭
Yes you should. Just 100% it with the platnuim a few min ago. I only have a few gripes but I can’t mention it for spoiler reasons
Yeah, I'm buying a ps5 just for this game alone. Other games will be released but I really can't wait for spider-man 2. I did wait for the 1st game, mostly cuz I couldn't afford it at the time but still it was hell. It will be hard not getting major spoilers on the internet. Thx for another review mate, I can always count on you for such things.
My favorite story bit was how many of the villains are moving on with their lives. Really heavy and powerful stuff here. Mysterio and Tombstone really got to me.
Hopefully this video will help me decide if I should buy the game!
(I definitely haven’t already pre ordered Digital Deluxe and already finished Story Mode)
I do want to ask about some topic related to the story, but it is HEAVY spoiler, so I will wait for your full review
Brooklyn is in New York...
I honestly think that the main criticisms I have with the game are all spoilers for the post game that I really hope an update can fix in the future
One of my favorite Spider-Man games is Edge of Time, this game is also up there
My only flaws were the fact that the symbiote minions were color coded like power rangers. Spider-Man web of shadows had the best style for the minions. Another flaw in my opinion was the music choice during the apocalypse(when symbiotes were all over the city). It should’ve been more chaotic and giving the player a more alone feeling. I truly believe Spider-Man Web of Shadows had a better story than Marvels Spider-Man 2
The narative requires paitence but is rewarding, the open world still leaves the same webby taste in my mouth.
Idk why I’m still watching reviews when I have the game and am playing it already and know it’s dope
I beat the shit out of this game couldn’t put it down till I reached 100% took me 40
Hours so yeah I would say buy the game
