Buy the Fujifilm XF 27mm f2.8 WR from here: amzn.to/3GHTAzM
I love this lens for its size and clarity. Paired with a small Fuji like the XA1 it’s easy to carry and inconspicuous.
I mostly use it on my X-E4.
I trust your reviews so much! Thank you for helping me decide to purchase this little guy…. I think it will live on my XPro2! Cheers!!!
I am glad my review was helpful! Cheers!
Great review! Thanks a lot! I added Fuji to my gear because of size and weight. Canon cameras are great for low light and sports photography, but lenses and bodies tend to be very heavy there. But I have to admit, that Fuji changed my life. The small-sized equipment makes it easier to enjoy a trip. But I also have to admit, that Fuji really puts focus on quality. I own the 50-140mm which I use on my X-T4, and it is my perfect gear. Now I bought this 27mm lens, and I must say that it is very good. Even at 2.8. As Andrei said, "beautiful noise", I also like beautiful softness. With the introduction of new cameras and now that photography is very digital, photographers put too much focus on flaws. Noise, sharpness, blur, colours.... Photography is not about perfection. It is about feelings.
Well put. Thank you!
I would like to see a video in which you explain how you manage focus and depth of field in your photography. Do you autofocus on your subject, use hyperfocal rules and so on. It would be interesting I think.
Great suggestion! Now that I have the tools to record the screen of the camera I promise I will make a video like this in the coming months.
@@AndreiDimaReviews some tutorials and techniques from time to time would indeed take the channel to another level.
This year I plan on making a couple of photography tutorials, more like a series, starting from the field and ending with editing.
It's good, Zeiss called it the 'eagle eye'. Indeed very sharp, but focallength is a bit limited, framing is key. Get a 16/2.8 and 23/2 too, plus 50/2. 27/2 would have been nicer though.
Ah, one of my most favourite - and beautiful - cities in the world; Valencia. 🥰 I'll be traveling there again this Oktober, with my Fuji cameras and this exact lens on one of them. It's an excellent piece of kit, love it!
I hope you enjoy it! I no longer live there because it got overcrowded with tourists.
@@AndreiDimaReviews Sorry for that, I guess I feel somewhat responsible for that. ;-)
Fujifilm needs to make a f2 one.
Yes.
I never thought I would like this lens that much when I ordered a used Copy out of curiousity. I didnt plan on keeping it when I ordered it because I have the 16mm, 23mm, 35 and 50mm. Why would I need this?! Well, the size! The size and compactness make this so unique and fun. I will throw this on my x pro3 and I am good during the day light/outsides. I have the old version and actually debated if I should sell it and get the new version but meh, I will keep that old fucker. Good lens IMO.
I am not sure what you said about flaring ("what do you expect from a lens like this") Not sure what that means, but I've been using this lens as my standard lens and can confidently say that there is no flaring, even shooting into the early morning winter sunrise. Superb lens.
I've had this lens since it was released, pre-ordering mine before they became unavailable for some time.
I agree with all of your review. I shoot only photos, never video, and I have no problem with the autofocus for general shooting. My only negative situation is with the minimum focus distance, as I'm often bumping up against it. This is simply a function of the pancake design which has limited extension for close focus. I accept this trade off for the size advantage when I want a small profile on the street.
FWIW, I bought a very nice hood from Squarehood which has designed a terrific hood just for this lens that copies the same design they have for the X100 series. It is somewhat expensive, but it does effectively keep oblique light off of the front element as well as offer physical protection from accidental finger smudges.
I was thinking on buying the hood from Squarehood more for protection but I also like the design. How is the quality of the hood?
@@AndreiDimaReviewsThe hood is very well designed. You screw a ring into the filter threads then you align the actual hood onto the ring so that it is properly oriented, then you tighten the set screws with the supplied tiny screwdriver. It went on in seconds and has never needed any repeated tightening after much use.
The hood is great, but the supplied cap is not very good, it seems like an afterthought. Nothing actually holds it on the hood but a tiny lip of soft material, but the lip is not deep enough to keep it on. I gave up on the cap, but I wouldn't want to be without the actual hood after using ut.
Thank you!
Nice review, my friend it looks very nice and compact
It sure is!
Great video! I also have this lens and it’s one of my favourites that I’ve tried.
Thank you!
Great review Andrei 🙂
Thanks! 😀
This would be a fun lens to use I think. I’ve used a 43mm Pentax lens on my full frame camera for a long time so this focal length would feel right at home. I wonder how the 27mm compares to the 23mm f2 r wr
This lens has always been a curiosity for me but the 27mm is very weird. A pancake 35mm equivalent would be a hit I think.
It is not my favourite focal but you get used to it quickly. A 35mm pancake would sell like crazy.
@@AndreiDimaReviews agreed even if it's a 2.8 and less quality than the 23mm 2. The pancake factor is the selling point.
I wish that Fuji would update all their pancakes with modern AF motors. Especially the 18mm f2.
@@veeaa isn't this new 27 pancake with the new LM line?
@@REMY.C. As far as I know the AF motors are still the same and noisy as in the previous version.
I saw some pictures near the Gran Via in Madrid there. Nice!
Thx!
Thanks, I’ve been debating this or the Voigtlander 27mm f2. I think the quality of this is better than I remembered, but I wonder how it compares.
I would get the Fuji.
@@AndreiDimaReviews Thanks for the rec!
I know they'll never make it, but I would die for another 27mm, but a little bigger, f1.4, faster af, and a silent focus motor for my bigger cameras. the pancake is great on my X-T10
Viltrox is making a 27mm f/1.2.
you're a legend. thanks!
I own a XT-30ii with a kit zoom lens that I'd like to replace with a small wide prime for bike traveling. I watched both this and the video you made on the 23mm f2 hoping to get some help to decide between the two but you make such beautiful pictures that now I want both! :)
Thank you!
Great review. Which is a better choice a 27mm f2.8 or a 23mm f2?
Thank you! Both are great but I would choose the 23mm f2.
Is this still in your kit? Part of me thinks I'd love this due to small form factor on my X-T5. But I currently have the 18mm 1.4 and 33mm 1.4 so not sure if this would make sense to purchase.
I still use this lens, it's great because it is so small. I think the 18mm and 33mm are a perfect combo but if you want something compact this is the way to go.
I am in the same situation. I have the 18mm and 33mm. I get paid photography jobs so I think a 27mm is good for everyday use but also as a backup in case the 18 or 33mm breaks during a shoot.
Nice video. It is too bad that in the mk2 version the image quality and autofocus were not appreciably improved.
Yes, true.
Yeah such a lazy update from Fuji!
@@veeaahow is it lazy? They added an aperture ring and weather sealing
@@nickfanzo OP says it all. They upgraded rather insignificant things and didn't fix the biggest flaw which is the autofocus while other Mk2 lenses have received a full upgrade. I was considering this lens but to my disappointment the AF is still too loud and clunky for video.
Even if I considered this lens for photos only, I'd likely still choose the Mk1 due to the better value it provides.
@@veeaa I don’t shoot video but I shoot in the streets and never had an issue with the auto focus
Would you get better, same or worse results from using this lens on an XT2/XT3/XT4 vs the X100V? Being a pancake lens you would get close to the small form factor of the X100V, I just worry about final results. I’m looking for a dedicated street setup. I don’t wanna take my XH2/XH2s out on the street.
I think you would get the same results as the X100V, that is why I got the X-E4 with this lens. The price of the X100V is getting ridiculous and I prefer a interchangeable lens camera.
@@AndreiDimaReviews I forgot about the XE4! Maybe that’s where I need to go. Just want a smallish camera for fun stuff.
@@JET-Photo why not the xt30 II? Nice design, very compact and new software. I had the old xt30 before I got the x pro3 and was happy!
@@venom2k2 that’s a possibility as well!
@@JET-Photo a good option can be also an xe3, amazing camera and cheaper than an xe4
I think this lens is very sharp. It is closer to human vision than 35 equivalent imho. I’d like to see a Fuji XE-5 that is exactly like the 100V except with interchangeable lenses. Bottom line I love this lens.
I'm also waiting for the next X100 or X-E5. The X100 would be my choice though due to the size and additional features like the ND filter, flash leaf shutter.
You actually have the focal range of 28-50mm on X100 with the additional lenses and even up to 100mm with the digital teleconverter in jpeg.
Hello Andrei… Hope you’re doing absolutely great… want to have your advise… what’s your thoughts about XT30 ll with 27mm f2.8 R WR combo for daily shooting and for Streetphotography ?
It is a good combo if you find a decent price.
Hello and thanks for the very interesting video as always! I have a problem, I wonder if I could please ask you for an opinion...? Could you tell me why since I switched to the XT5 (I had photos are not very clear...! I'm not talking about grain which above 3200 ISO has more due to the denser sensor... I blamed the lens I have at the moment, namely the 23mm f1.4 old version which certainly doesn't solve everyone the 40 megap... (I will change the lenses as soon as possible!) The shutter speeds are always above 1/160th of a sec. The only thing I never use is the stabilizer because I don't make videos and I almost never shoot at slow speeds... (do I hurt, should I activate it?) As software I use Lightroom. Thanks Roberto Ps. Sorry for my english...!
Hello, the camera had some autofocus problems with previous firmware. Maybe that is why you have this problem, update the camera to the last firmware.
I had already done it... thank you so much!
@@robertobaccaro1357 test the camera with other lenses, maybe there is a problem with the lens.
@@AndreiDimaReviews thank you
I’ve been trying to find the silver version but have had no luck. Did they discontinue it?
The silver version is available just for the first generation, from what I know.
Thank you kindly
@@AndreiDimaReviews
Great review of a special little lens. Would you consider this lens "improved" with the latest X-T5 AF update?
Yes, I think all lenses benefit from the new AF update.
AmaIng video bro!
Glad you liked it.
I just have a question, when you’re showing the autofocus showing ur hands and your face, what was your setting for that? I have the lens and is using XT-5 but when I do that, I don’t get to cous it whenever I show my hands or my face. I have to manually press the button halfway and most of the time I don’t want to do that.
It's really interesting focal length 40 mm for me. It's a bit of a in between link that I don't shoot a lot. I would really like this lens but I don't think I would use it for a Portrait and I don't think it's wide enough for street captures or landscape so it kinda doesn't really server purpose for me. I think it's a wonderful idea but I would like to see an 18 mm pancake and maybe a 35mm (50mm) pancake possibly now is that possible I don't know but that would be really cool if they could do that.... I do love the idea of it it's just the focal length is not for me, but maybe if I gave want to go and find some captures that I can use for it
I brought this lens with me daily for a year, used it maybe 3-4 times, I just don't like this focal length and much prefer wider lenses. I now usually bring a 13mm F1.4 despite the size as the photos you get are just stunning in all conditions. And then a 35mm F2 for portraits, close ups, but that lens also has terrible focus breathing.
Thank you for sharing!
Your comment sold this lens to me. I was debating between this lens and the 35mm f2. But I always preferred the size of 27mm, now I will buy it and enjoy it! Thanks
Did you take those photos using lens hood?
I never used the lens hood with this lens.
i only have an entry level fuji x-a7 with kit lens and want to have a small lens so it is easier to carry when im out cycling, is this a substantial upgrade on the kit lens of x-a7? thanks
Is xt5 have same depth of field or popup like fullframe?
If you use the right lens, yes.
how can i put this green ballance guide on my fujifilm
What camera are you using?
27 is the same as 43 on full frame, or so call normal lens view or 55 for Fuji gfx, would be nice if Fuji could do 1.4 or 1.2
Спасибо!
Your welcome!
# 189 Very interesting lens
Greetings
how about 7artisan version?
It is out just for Sony and I didn't review it.
According to Fujifilm this lens will resolve the full 40mp.
No, according to Fujifilm this lens will take advantage of the 40mp.
"beautiful noise".
Video reported.
😅
About the noise I noticed when comparing incamera jpegs and the corresponding raw that I get way better results going from the raw, using dxo ai prime denoising (or not) then make a jpeg from there. Also I don't use the acros anymore, it's noise at high iso is pretty bad compared to the monochrome simulation. When in high iso there's obviously noise and Acros adds its own on top. It seems to me very disgraceful.
Most of the time I use the raw and add the film simulation in Capture One, I like to have control over everything.
This lens is incredibly noisy. I might sell it. Great, but the noise bothers me
Still a great lens.
the "noise" surely is not a problem for still photography
