Tonight is the first time I looked up Confrontation videos since the servers shut down. I need to stop.. it's too depressing.. I don't think any game will every truly replace this one for me.
How long ago did the servers shut down, and why? I don`t remember playing this since 2012 or earlier, but I play an all online game called warhawk that's been out since like 08...
RIP Socom, GOAT of online shooters. Too many late night gaming sessions with some great people. My heart will always have a special place for this series.

That rush of nostalgia flows through my veins every time I even think of this game. There hasn't been and never will be another game like Socom (1,2,Con) RIP.

SOCOM 1-3 and CA are all good games imo, the only issue with confrontation was the fact that there was no single player campaign, SOCOM 4 on the other hand though was a complete pile of shit.
The main thing I miss about this game which you don't find in most shooters now is team work. Like if you didn't have a Mic there is no way you could play a round at all. Also team kills means you really had to develop skill. Calling your mines out, proper aim in close quarters gun fights, aiming your grenades right so you wouldn't kill your teammates. Shooters now are just plug and play. I loved the last game zipper developed which was Mag only because you needed team work to actually win.
I agree with almost everything you said but the gameplay on show was painful to watch. I'm really hoping for a Socom HD because I'm so done with all these pathetic/no-skill shooters of today.
Headshot city with snipers that don't even move. People just staring down doors with Snipers and the smallest maps ever so your path is limited. No thanks =/
Yeah, this gameplay video sucks and I can't get into cs go either for the same reasons. I can respect that people can grind that game out and play it competitively, but it just doesn't appeal to me with the fucking awps and narrow hallways map design.
WAY too nostalgic. It brings me tears of happiness, such good times heading online with your friends before group chats were a thing with that old PS2 mic with that annoying box attach to the usb wire.
Coming from S2 and playing hundreds of hours of it in my parents basement I can understand the hate that confrontation got but not enough to warrant me not playing and enjoying the hell out of it I just embraced the subtle changes.
I loved Socom Confrontation. For the budget they had they made an excellent game. I played for 4 or 5 years, and it was amazing. I hope H-Hour is just as good.
I loved the option in Confrontation to change from classic view to over the shoulder cam via the options. i personally enjoyed the over the shoulder cam. i believe that it is the best over the shoulder cam to date.
yeah ive been missing confrontation, H Hour will hopefully be the next SOCOM, everyone who has playtested it has said it feels exactly like socom, but we'll see. It comes out on PC in March this year, and soon after on PS4, definitely give it a try
I hope it gets to PS4. Toxic people have been trying to ruin the chances though. The dev team said that one of the investers may pull because of the toxic community. I just want SOCOM back haha,
Its spring here at the moment. The nostalgic smells are whipping through the air. With that nostalgia comes a familiar craving, a craving of getting home from school, running to the lounge room, and starting up Socom: Confrontation. A craving that hasn't been answered in five years. This video brought back so much joy just by watching the game play, man I miss this game.
still waiting on a remastered 1-2! I know it may never happened but its a dream. 1-2 with downloadable confrontation and socom 3 map packs but all with 1-2 mechanics. I would be happy with just maps from Socom 1-2. That would be a ideal way to test the waters to see if reviving the franchise is profitable. Not sure why Sony hasn't added this to their exclusive list. Not hard to give it to another developers to remaster.
Don't forget that each individual magazine held the same amount all the time (If you took a mag out with 9 rds left and put in a new one with 30, the other stayed in your inventory at 9 rds).
All good points that exclaim the raw simplicity of actually being in game! All very important when playing online or off.The third person perspective actually offers more realistic peripherals were as the so called first person view can only produce an tunnel vision view because of the simple dynamic limitations of your viewing screen. Which is one reason people often find them selves being killed by some just off screen from either side at any given moment in a FPS game , when in reality you would have seen them. It would be nice to see a follow up video exclaiming how much better the single player campaigns were. I try to express COD and BF fans how much more there was in SOCOM and it confuses them. In SOCOM there were missions. What about story? Mission! You decide the story. You were given an object or objectives (primary and secondaries), a map, a team ,and your choice of weapons. Aside from your entry and evacuation points the rest was up to the player. You could use stealth or go loud. Slow and steady or Blitzkrieg! Today's shooters run on rails. You have to follow a pre-selected path with no options for deviation and pretty much just shoot everything that gets in your way. It's like repetitive race to the next cinematic cut scene. Don't get me wrong, I like movies, but I like to PLAY my video games. COD and BF are fine for mindless shooting but if you want real drama and the ability to explore tactics SOCOM were the games to play and play again. Personally I did not mind SOCOM 3 or Combined Assault as much as I hate that they took away my SOCOMs.Always dreamed of some group having the guts to combine all the SOCOM games into one HD game (except SOCOM 4 because that really sucked) and giving it cool name like SOCOM Legacy or some thing. I am not buying a PS4 until some one puts a legitimate third person tactical shooter out for it. I am sure you get the point, maybe some one with the time can make a video that could exclaim it better? Thanks

I'd love to squeeze in some 8v8 Sandstorm, Enowapi, Blizzard, or XR now and then. Even S3: Blackwoods, Waterworks, Harvester, etc. GOOD TIMES!
I’m only 17 and remember playing socom back in early to late elementary school, I got into it cause my dad loved the game, I wish I could play it now that I’m older and understand video games but socom 2 was hands down the best socom game to date

Socom 2 is the best third person shooter of all time hands down...It revolutionized online gaming and it was a complete universe all of its own. This game launched my shooter career and made me the beast I am today.
Haven't done anything on my PS3 or ps4 sense this shooter is gone just collecting dust lol. This game changed people lives forever. Team work communication and community is unmatched.
The best part of Socom for me was that fantastic respawn for you to start training. The maps were great and fast rounds and very tactical as well. You basically never could know where your enemy could come from. This was the game that we never more will have such game. It was like Mike Jackson for the pop. Happens just once ever.

i already commented but i wanted to add something i wrote elsewhere with many, if not all, the things you mentioned. --- "these games, except 4, had everything done right, even confrontation. the camera, the hit detection, no bullet spread, 1 shot headshots regardless of weapon, red x when an object is blocking bullets, the grenade system, the cover system or more specifically the lack of "sticky cover" , vote to ban, no elo system, proximity chat the enemy can hear. click to talk with an avid voice comm community, green up not a lobby timer, ability to choose sides in lobby, in game built in forum to chat, recruit or whatever else a forum can be used for, custom lobbies and games. perfect game modes balanced around maps designed for said game mode. original concepts like escort, breach and extraction, large and small map designs to suit your mood, even vehicles on large map mode prior to confrontation. the list goes on, but this will necver be duplicated and was under appreciated at the time by idiots like suckmyturbin/blackwidow88 and all the cohorts seeking youtube fame by bashing every release after socom 2. say something enough and it becomes true was the lesson these asses learned, but sadly the rest of us suffered to. i have kids now so i would literally give my left nut for a real socom game. not some bastardized or moderniozed version. counter strike proves the fluff isn't needed, that said socom blows away counter strike"

The early Socoms were definitely the best shooters out there even to this day. Props to "No Rest Gaming" for this video, Socom definitely deserves the recognition and respect over the newer shooters!
Did everyone really hate SOCOM 3? I had a lot of fun with it seemed like smaller version of battlefield for the PS2. Honestly it's what I thought they should have done with SOCOM 4 if they didn't want to make it like the originals.
Loved it. I find Every SOCOM game that isn't SOCOM 4 to be better than COD or BF games. That is not to say I don't prefer a particular SOCOM title over another. It is to say they are all better than COD and BF titles.
It is...it offered ground breaking gameplay and was WAYY ahead of it's time. Playing co-op players on a bigass map full of objectives on PS2. That and desert Storm were so ahead of their time.
i agree with most of your points that you made in the video. They really need to kick the socom series back up or even remaster some of the best some of the best socom games there were (Socom 2). I just really miss the simple things that the game got right, and i get really nostalgic thinking about all the great times i had when i would just lay down on my bed and grind the game for a few hours.
Socom would still be alive today if they would have just waited to release Socom Confrontation a year later. They released it to early with wayyy to many bugs. But after the countless patches and once everything was fixed the game was great!
So well put! Confrontation was a let down, but it could still carry the torch as far as experience goes. You good become an elite player if you had a nac at shooting, but it was also a chess match playing out in front of your eyes. I liked the Socom series for its realistic damage; you couldn't just get shot 10 times and then duck for 15 seconds until your health came back. Sadly, this realism declined with each sequel of the game.
After patch 1.6 confrontation was one of the greatest shooters, if not the greatest shooter. It was the year prior of the game being damn near unplayable which kept it from becoming a successful next gen shooter. And with the current popularity of competitive gaming, it's a real shame Socom is not at the forefront. Maybe someday.
That is your opinion. Personally I think they did a fairly good job on a severely truncated timetable and being seriously underfunded. I love how people rag on Slant Six like they destroyed Socom, Then completely forget that Zipper, the original makers of Socom, came out with the worst shooter game in history Socom 4

A developer with experience only in portable gaming before Con shouldn't have been given the project because it was mismanaged by an incompetent staff either without the means or without the care to do a better job. Socom Con, Operation Racoon City, there is a reason slant 6 went under after only working on 2 console titles.

Just because a person isn't in the same profession as you doesn't means your criticism of their work is automatically invalid. If you hired a carpenter to build you a house, and when he finished it was crooked, leaning to one side and half the supports and walls were missing you'd say "I'm not paying for that, that's shoddy craftsmanship." That analogy works for any profession. When the game worked, it was an alright game, but that doesn't change the fact that from a technical standpoint it was a disaster. I remember walking into a game stop years ago around the time the game was the new thing and they had an entire wall of used copies they were struggling to sell. I understand that there are people who were big fans of the game, rabid fans of the game even who will defend it to the death. I have favorite games like that too of which other people would call garbage, but I'm not blinded by my love of said games to the point I cannot or will not admit to it's flaws. While zipper was off working on much more ambitious things like MAG, they gave the development of socom con to slant 6 and it was a mistake, a buggy, glitchy broken mistake designed by an incompetent staff who never accepts blame for their shoddy work. Again there is a reason slant 6 isn't in business anymore. That's the great thing about the free market too by the way, is bad carpenters go out of business when they make bad houses.
Confrontation was under rated. If there was ever a remaster I think it should be more like confrontation & just feature seasons with every classic s1-sc map. Basically a remastered confrontation, I think it could happen. Until then I’ll just play the old one on PS3...
Their would never be another game like socom, after combined assault the game got ruined, what ruined most of the games is that we can't make our own lobbies. I remember going in to the clan recruitment server, their will be hundreds of rooms named, "Zoo TryOuts," or whatever name it might be and players get to choose, "oh hey look at this clan here, let me tryout for this one," or "hey, look at our rival clan here having a tryout, let's crash it and play them a couple rounds." What made the socom series so good, was also the maps. They were really really small, like I remember "Vault." One of many ppl's fav map. Why? Well, you didn't have to travel to West bubbafuck to find 1 player. Another reason was, one person could speak at a time, now in days you got everybody in their mother talking at the same time. Tommy over here listening to trap music, Billy getting yelled by his mother, another one having a conversation on the Fone w his gf. I remember holding that R2 button as if my life depended on it lol. But what made socom, SOCOM was it's online clan interface. Now in days, players don't take it as serious cuz now you cud change the clan tag whenever u feel like it, as before u cudnt change the tag, nothing is either u leave or stay and if you left, everybody in ur clan would receive a notification, "Stewie just left the clan," and their was no way bck in, unless invited back of course.

I also loved Socom 3 and CA. However, my love for those titles is greatly overshadowed for my love of the other titles in the franchise.

The best part of Socom for me was that fantastic respawn for you to start training. The maps were great and fast rounds and very tactical as well. You basically never could know where your enemy could come from. This was the game that we never more will have such game. It was like Mike Jackson for the pop. Happens just once ever.
They brought back Scon servers

SOCOM 4 was actually saddening, it wasn't a "SOCOM" game, it was a third person COD, it wasn't tactical it was tacticool

"these games, except 4, had everything done right, even confrontation. the camera, the hit detection, no bullet spread, 1 shot headshots regardless of weapon, red x when an object is blocking bullets, the grenade system, the cover system or more specifically the lack of "sticky cover" , vote to ban, no elo system, proximity chat the enemy can hear. click to talk with an avid voice comm community, green up not a lobby timer, ability to choose sides in lobby, in game built in forum to chat, recruit or whatever else a forum can be used for, custom lobbies and games. perfect game modes balanced around maps designed for said game mode. original concepts like escort, breach and extraction, large and small map designs to suit your mood, even vehicles on large map mode prior to confrontation. the list goes on, but this will necver be duplicated and was under appreciated at the time by idiots like suckmyturbin/blackwidow88 and all the cohorts seeking youtube fame by bashing every release after socom 2. say something enough and it becomes true was the lesson these asses learned, but sadly the rest of us suffered to. i have kids now so i would literally give my left nut for a real socom game. not some bastardized or moderniozed version. counter strike proves the fluff isn't needed, that said socom blows away counter strike"

Socom FTB1 and FTB2 on PSP were great ! Didn't enjoy FTB 3 much but who cares, Confrontation was out and i loved it

The sixaxis control was dope son, you could crouch down into a little ball and lean and it was tight!! They should just do an HD remake of this bad boy!!

The early Socoms were definitely the best shooters out there even to this day. Props to "No Rest Gaming" for this video, Socom definitely deserves the recognition and respect over the newer shooters!
Did everyone really hate SOCOM 3? I had a lot of fun with it seemed like smaller version of battlefield for the PS2. Honestly it's what I thought they should have done with SOCOM 4 if they didn't want to make it like the originals.

I find Every SOCOM game that isn't SOCOM 4 to be better than COD or BF games. That is not to say I don't prefer a particular SOCOM title over another. It is to say they are all better than COD and BF titles.
It is...it offered ground breaking gameplay and was WAYY ahead of it's time. Playing co-op players on a bigass map full of objectives on PS2. That and desert Storm were so ahead of their time.
i agree with most of your points that you made in the video. They really need to kick the socom series back up or even remaster some of the best some of the best socom games there were (Socom 2). I just really miss the simple things that the game got right, and i get really nostalgic thinking about all the great times i had when i would just lay down on my bed and grind the game for a few hours.
Socom would still be alive today if they would have just waited to release Socom Confrontation a year later. They released it to early with wayyy to many bugs. But after the countless patches and once everything was fixed the game was great!

So well put! Confrontation was a let down, but it could still carry the torch as far as experience goes. You good become an elite player if you had a nac at shooting, but it was also a chess match playing out in front of your eyes. I hope the pc community for hhour is not a let down otherwise I may have to pick up a ps4. Thank you for giving us deja vu! Great vid
I liked the Socom series for its realistic damage; you couldn't just get shot 10 times and then duck for 15 seconds until your health came back. Sadly, this realism declined with each sequel of the game.
After patch 1.6 confrontation was one of the greatest shooters, if not the greatest shooter. It was the year prior of the game being damn near unplayable which kept it from becoming a successful next gen shooter. And with the current popularity of competitive gaming, it's a real shame Socom is not at the forefront. Maybe someday.
A SOCOM reboot or even remaster would be amazing.

That is your opinion. Personally I think they did a fairly good job on a severely truncated timetable and being seriously underfunded.
I love how people rag on Slant Six like they destroyed Socom, Then completely forget that Zipper, the original makers of Socom, came out with the worst shooter game in history Socom 4
Them doing a good job is where we're going to disagree completely. A developer with experience only in portable gaming before Con shouldn't have been given the project because it was mismanaged by an incompetent staff either without the means or without the care to do a better job.
Socom Con, Operation Racoon City, there is a reason slant 6 went under after only working on 2 console titles.

Let's see, a game with only a mutliplayer aspect, created in a time where america was only like on 60% broadband, with the funding of a fucking mobile game, and the demand to get it done now. With no marketing what so ever.....Hmmmm, I wonder why it failed. Yep, let's blame the developer of a game. The fact of the matter is that you were one of those whiny ass bitches who couldn't handle actually thinking about how to play a game, so all you could do is bitch and moan.
Just because a person isn't in the same profession as you doesn't means your criticism of their work is automatically invalid. If you hired a carpenter to build you a house, and when he finished it was crooked, leaning to one side and half the supports and walls were missing you'd say "I'm not paying for that, that's shoddy craftsmanship." That analogy works for any profession. When the game worked, it was an alright game, but that doesn't change the fact that from a technical standpoint it was a disaster. I remember walking into a game stop years ago around the time the game was the new thing and they had an entire wall of used copies they were struggling to sell.
I understand that there are people who were big fans of the game, rabid fans of the game even who will defend it to the death. I have favorite games like that too of which other people would call garbage, but I'm not blinded by my love of said games to the point I cannot or will not admit to it's flaws.
While zipper was off working on much more ambitious things like MAG, they gave the development of socom con to slant 6 and it was a mistake, a buggy, glitchy broken mistake designed by an incompetent staff who never accepts blame for their shoddy work. Again there is a reason slant 6 isn't in business anymore.
That's the great thing about the free market too by the way, is bad carpenters go out of business when they make bad houses.
Confrontation was great in my opinion
It'd be nice for the makers of Socom to make a game similiar to Arma (Military simulator) but in their own style and for it to be for consoles.
Confrontation was under rated. If there was ever a remaster I think it should be more like confrontation & just feature seasons with every classic s1-sc map. Basically a remastered confrontation, I think it could happen. Until then I’ll just play the old one on PS3...

Their would never be another game like socom, after combined assault the game got ruined, what ruined most of the games is that we can't make our own lobbies. I remember going in to the clan recruitment server, their will be hundreds of rooms named, "Zoo TryOuts," or whatever name it might be and players get to choose, "oh hey look at this clan here, let me tryout for this one," or "hey, look at our rival clan here having a tryout, let's crash it and play them a couple rounds." What made the socom series so good, was also the maps. They were really really small, like I remember "Vault." One of many ppl's fav map. Why? Well, you didn't have to travel to West bubbafuck to find 1 player. Another reason was, one person could speak at a time, now in days you got everybody in their mother talking at the same time. Tommy over here listening to trap music, Billy getting yelled by his mother, another one having a conversation on the Fone w his gf. I remember holding that R2 button as if my life depended on it lol. But what made socom, SOCOM was it's online clan interface. Now in days, players don't take it as serious cuz now you cud change the clan tag whenever u feel like it, as before u cudnt change the tag, nothing is either u leave or stay and if you left, everybody in ur clan would receive a notification, "Stewie just left the clan," and their was no way bck in, unless invited back of course.

I miss this game soooo much. I personally loved Confrontation. It was close to 2 in my opinion as the best. I didn't play 1 online. But I liked Combined Assault also.
Been playing SOCOM on XLink. It is worth the hassle, but we need more players earlier in the evenings.
I'd honestly love to play. Hey, once I get my network adapter, and hard disk, I'll get on there =D
