You can play confrontation by just changing your dns settings on your ps3 look up saveconfrontation and you should find a tutorial

The map disign legit ruined every other game for me... If you never played, you just dont know why maps have to be strategically built and balanced. Un-trained will see X-roads as simple and just a square and couldnt be more wrong. Every hall and window are thought out

Socom 2 was the best online game ever made, imo. Damn do I miss this game. Sony utterly and completely dropped the damn ball with this game.

Socom wasn't just the death of a great great game, but the death of a generation that played it,
we will probably never see a good game again shooters or otherwise, all we will see is games
chasing the dragon of fortnite microtransactions.
Respawn killed the thrill. Children were not able to enjoy that sensation of "I must play as a team or I will screw it up not just for me but for my team". I was a SOCOM beta tester and I remember those days as my best years as a player, they will not come back because the industrie knows these kind of true gamers are not profitable. I wish I could have been able to enjoy SOCOM I and II with high speed connections on a console.

@Gary Potter no 2 used a health bar and for whatever reason at times people became immortal, when in 1 people lagging or game sharking short of an actual immortal code could still be taken down, I could take out 3 4 or even 5 people with one clip but starting in 2 with the health bar at times I couldn't take out 1 person with 2 or 3 clips. My bro in law would watch sometimes and would comment WTF when I dumped half a clip into someone's head for them to turn around and drop me in 3 or 4 bullets. health bar or a different server set up, but something was definitely wrong with 2 and the following games.
socom is easily the best game ever game its as simple as that you put any one from cod or battlefield on this game and they would get destroyed as it takes a much higher skill set to play this game as it takes communication and team work unlike modern shooters
Check out The Last of Us ps4. Online its very similar playing style. It takes team work, skill. And pretty realistic as far as headshots and all. Not like cod were you have to put 30 bullets in someone to kill them. Been playing it for a few months now, can't put it down.

But I bought it and played it day 1... or has come a long way but still has a very long way to go... as a game it is fun... but not the next socom... the biggest problem is that only about 20-40 people are online during the day and no one is online after 12pm est... it looks very unlikely that it will ever come to playstation.... last I heard they need to raise another $2 million just to get started on bringing it to ps4

Oh man this makes me sad. I miss socom sooo much. I used to play combined assault every night with my clan on ps2 til they got ps3's and then i got left in the dust. So many great memories. I loved socom because I felt like I actually mattered as a team member in comparison to these other constant respawn and get shot games that are free for all cluster f***s. U can get socom 1-3 on your phone if it has enough space just get PPSSPP emulater on play store . Then download Happychick on google . Search for the game on happychick and download . Also search how to set up emulater so u dont get lag/ bad audio . Enjoy.

I think this goes to show there are a LOT of die hard SOCOM fans who miss this series! I was lucky enough to play the mod for insurgency on PC which I feel was very close to the socom play but on pc. A remake is needed
The PS2 Era was great Socom was my and still is my alltime favorite alongside ONLY THE PS2 ratchet & clanks. i tried cod several times but its not the same as Socom and never will be. Nothing in the market today fills that void in my life as socom would. ive played many mods with the socom style and its so nostalgic i need it in my life damn it sony!

i miss playing socom it was one of my favorite games of all time and its sad it has not been resurrected by sony it is a great game long forgot by many and it was left behind it breaks my heart to see this amazing game series to be forgotten.
Socom Confrontation for life :'(
SOCOM was my absolute favorite series growing up (until 4 at least). Owned and played every game on PS2 and PSP. I remember SOCOM 3 and Combined Assault's "Crosstalk" feature, where the events of both games and their PSP counterparts (Fireteam Bravo 1&2) would interact with each other and if you completed certain objectives in the PSP games you would change the events of the PS2 games and vice versa. That blew my mind as a kid. Don't think I've seen anything like it since.

the music, the sounds of the different types of guns, the grenades, the voices, the sound of switching between weapons, this is all embedded into my childhood memory, I will never forget about socom. socom 2 was the base of true real friends that I'll never forget. I was 15 when it came out and I fell in love instantly, to this day, many consoles and games later including the ps5. Socom 2 remains the greatest game I have ever played
This brings back so many memories... i've never had a ps2 but I played psp for a very long time. One day I was searching through the PlaySation Store and found this free Demo for Socom. I downloadet it (was like two days because of shitty internet) and when I played it for the first time i was in love. It was just a Demo and the time you could play this ONE mission was limited but I played it again and again. So much that I knew every pixel of the level every enemy and I speedrunned it again and again. Every time trying to be faster, so I could play more of the Mission... good old times.
I am late to this video, but I have a small SOCOM story.
I was 7 when I played my first fps game, it was rainbow 6 lockdown, it is the game that got me into tactical shooters and the only that in my heart, will ever ever rival SOCOM.
I can happily say I was blessed and lucky enough to play SOCOM 1,2, and combined assault, Combined assault being the first SOCOM I played, and to this day will always be my favorite tactical shooter. the first time I plopped combined assault into my ps2 I lit up with nostalgia from playing rainbow 6, but as I played my heart fell in love with the game, playing it over and over to the point I perfected a strategy to play through the game on admiral with no damage. I'm 18 now, considering on joining the US Army, all because a little video game, where I played a virtual soldier, but in one of the most realistic ways where your actions really mattered, where you need a strategy that could make or break the mission. I still play combined assault, sad to say I never got to experience online, but even now, when I boot up my ps2 and I hear that combined assault intro play, followed by its menu music...goosebumps. I no longer am a gamer, I feel like soldier, right there in the action I put myself in the boots of Specter, and I feel home, and thats why I can proudly say, I will always love SOCOM and maybe one day, the true, the REAL, SOCOM games will return, till then, time to play through combined assault again, see if I can perfect stealth run

You...you are just like me. I remember playing socom 2 always in the night, because the graphics were more enjoyable in nightime. The light o the sun reflected too much on the tv. Even the way they designes the series was for stealth purposes. I remember having this dream of joining the navy seals by playing this game. But i knew thats all it was, just a dream. Since i live in Panama 🇵🇦 and to be a navy seal, one has to be an american 🇺🇸citizen 😢...so whenever i played, i did it in the most realistic way, setting the ambient for my room, even my clothes, to feel like i was there, in tbe shit, right fucking there, inside that tv, like if i was specter himself...Idk why i get your video recommended after 4 years, but im glad i saw a fellow gamer...thank you so much for bringing such good memories bro 😌. When socom came out I was like 8-10 years old.
Was very difficult for me to pass the missions. I miss it everyday. Was so amazing. At school I'd be thinking how much I couldnt wait to go home to hit the ps2 and rip socom right away lol.

Socom II was the best. Much better than S1, S3 and beyond. The game will always be special, it was a big part of my life. My friends and I played a lot. I've been on xlink, and the game is still a lot of fun. much better than any COD title. But the people who say they want it back are not there. they could be, but they are not. people have moved on, whether they realize it or not. RIP Socom.

I am still in favor of military action against Sony in order to correct this situation. All they had to do is add more maps to Confrontation. STILL PISSED!
I'm a SOCOM vet, I've played all the SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs games since they came out on the Playstation 2.
And now the only game that feels close to SOCOM in 2022 is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (ps4/ps5) with the new 3rd person view modes.
i recommend it to any SOCOM fan, is probably the closest we are going to get to having another SOCOM game.

I was just listening to SOCOM 2 music and your video popped up. I gotta say, SOCOM online was once a huge part of my life on weekends and led to a pretty bad break-up with a jealous girlfriend. I chose SOCOM every time. I really loved this series. Thanks for bringing back such amazing memories.

Great video man! I miss Socom so much. As bad as the servers where for Confrontation, the maps and the sounds were my favorite of any games prior or since. The guns and explosions up close were great, but the sounds of guns and explosion in the distance were just as great.
SOCOM 4 was utter garbage. I remember playing SOCOM 2 and 3 until I fell asleep at my PS2 after 8 straight hours of gaming. I fell asleep at SOCOM 4 after 2 hours.

You needed skill to be good at socom 1 and 2. Socom 3 they tried to start making more user friendly and it ruined the game.
My dad always played it when he got back to work and in the day, I miss waking up and watching him play and him making callouts. It was prob the most joy I've seen on him. Too bad it's not here anymore. I'll never see my dad that happy again

The SOCOM series was sooo underrated, even when I was 4 years old, watching my dad play it, I had no clue what was going on but I fell in love with it.
I replay the campaigns over and over and over again, all day long sometimes.
The game is just so incredibly fun and super addicting. SOCOM will forever hold a place in my heart as my favorite game series of all time.
I switched over to COD on the Xbox 360 and Xbox 1 after SOCOM 4 died. COD never was able to provide me with the same rush as SOCOM did.

There has never and will never be a game like Socom 2 ever again. Its sad. The first time I got the game in 2003, I played Desert Glory from 11am to 12pm the following day. No Lie. The tactics, coordinating attacks, seals vs terrorists, only having the mic one at a time, 8 vs 8, everything about it. Society now is sad. The youth are riddled with ADHD meds and can not handle waiting till the match is over to play again. Hence respawn and its garbage it brings to game play. COD is SH*T. As a matter of fact, the sales it brings in across the world should just prove how awful, dumbed down and unfocused people of todays society actually are. Call me when Socom 2 desert glory is available. Ill forever be waiting.

dudes, the online servers were brough back by some fellow socom nerds. im 34 i started this game from the beginning on socom 1. ive been all over the country to mil bases and random neighborhoods meeting my socom clan. 2 of them became my life time best friends. my mom just passed, one of my best friends BluDrgn socom 1 who ive maintained contact with and stayed close with, is sleepin my couch RIGHT NOW.theyre both close w my whole fam. He just flew in from Utah, im telling you guys this game changed my life it was that good. gave me life time best friends.

To be fair, Zipper Interactive didn't know how to handle glitches and cheaters which began the decline of the series. By the time Modern Warfare came out there were systems in place where developers could easily patch games. Socom 3, was what put the nail in the coffin as they turned Socom into "Battlefield lite" and added the "Spray and Pray" gun mechanics we all HATE to this day , the complete opposite of Socom which was a small team based tactical stealth shooter that had perfectly accurate guns.
My brother got the demo in an OPM isssue and we both became obsessed. Favorite memory is playing match after match on Desert Glory on a summer evening. We'd always get these sunsets that would pour light into our house and turn the white walls in our living room into a sandy orange -- it just added a level of ambience while playing on that map.
When I say that to my friends that socom is my favorite shooter series they laugh at me and say that I am old but they dont know how it beats every other series.
Nice video! Used to play Socom 1-2-3 , was a clanleader in one of the best Norwegian Socom clans, good times!:) never seen such a great community in a videogame before or after the Socom era. After Socom i moved on to other 3rd person shooters like gears of war, Metal Gear online, the last og Us and now im playing Uncharted 4 multiplayer.
Yo, this video honestly brought me back. My older brother bought me the network adapter and the first socom a few months after it was released for my birthday when i was like 14 or something. It was so bad ass, my 45-year-old dad went out and bought the whole package to play with us in the other room. I helped him run RJ45 cables through the wall just so he could play too. I remember clan battles, and the websites you could schedule battles on. First was like "Socombattles.com" and then it changed to something else. I also remember joining the forums and creating my socom signature that would display at the bottom of my post, lol.
If they had any idea of how to bring it back...It would begin with how they made the first Socom. The headset....the commands....the style of military...everything that made you feel like a NAVY SEAL back then and bring that all up to speed with the current year. The headset and commands and all that...reinvent it. Add. Construct something so innovative it keeps a real Navy Seal on their toes.
I actually just completed SOCOM just a couple days ago. The first one I got was SOCOM 3 for Christmas. Ever since then I've gotten every game in the series. The funny thing is, I got the first SOCOM game last. I bought it online and I remembered playing the first one at my cousin's house. I love this game series to death, and I really wish they could make more games like this.
No other game has ever been so enjoyable. I could stay home and play socom all day long. I used to love parking a vehicle near a bush and putting mines in the bush, and then waiting for people to start up the car and blow up. Socom 1, 2, and 3 were the real Socoms.
this is one of the best video I've seen about the socom series. hearing the opening screen music for confrontation gave me chills. I played every single game in this series..... hours and hours, weeks and months. socom4 was terrible and made me go right back to confrontation. I was still playing confrontation daily when the servers were shut down. we would have five tvs in one room so we could make us hard to beat. I can't believe this video is 7 years old and youtube never recommended it to me. The Socom Series (specifically the ps2 era) for me, has always been one of the greatest game franchises of all time! I recently bought me a Ps2 on eBay just so I can experience those games again, and I am so looking forward to it! I'm fine with them not making Socom today. Used to spot for my dad back when SOCOM U.S Navy SEALS first came out: That era was full of games we both love to this day. FFX, FFXI (which we still play), Armored Core 2, KH2, and SOCOM 1 and 2 made me the happiest little kid in the damn world. Games nowadays just don't have the sort of skill curve they had back then: you had to really learn and utilize strategy and tactics for a chance at winning. Whereas nowadays games are more like Rambo simulations: Shooters today don't emphasize the art of war as much as SOCOM did. I had to go back to each of those games after YEARS of maturing to have a chance at beating them. Only ever got to beat AC2 and KH2. Emulators are my best friend.

This is the only game that I would play around the clock. And would call in sick for work...so that I could play. Miss it so much
the days my homies and I would play online scrims, having to meet up a specific time to just log in and play a 5v5 match. God it was sooo niceeee. I remember practicing and setting up strategies so that YOU WOULDNT DIE. it was incredible game. Still my fav 3rd person shooter to this day. Incredible shooterrr.
I still have the Main Themes from 2 and 3 on my phone after so many years and listen to them regularly. They take me back to my childhood, these games were amazing.
SOCOM online multiplayer was a million times better than COD or any other shooter games. Very team oriented and not just run and shoot. You had to hide, sneak and work as a team to defeat the other team. Only game I ever played as a clan.

I'm just now watching this but I was crushed with how things went as well such great memory with this game the maps strategically moves one could make made for a game worthy of dedicated staff to remake the original my input is so many people love CoD which I play now just because I cant stand not playing a war game but the seals disappear just like this game it's kinda what they do yet I know that on that note I was a great player ranked in the top 30 i was working my way top be number one then my mother passed on & my effort to play died because she used to get so happy cheering me on & watching me play it was a bond we built & now I feel I captured that time with her in my mind as well as heart it's always good to see someone else who enjoyed the same thing codos to you my fellow seal

You nailed it man. I used to have to physically stop myself from playing Fish Hook on Socom 3 because before I knew it the clock read 5 in the morning. Ridiculous amount of fun that never got old and I don't see that the experience has ever been repeated.
socom 2 was my childhood, I've made some many friends that bf or cod will never give me. in socom 2 if you didn't have a mic, you got kicked... watching this video breaks my heart... we need another socom 2 let's green up and play as a team to get this back
I'll admit, I love the battlefield franchise, but SOCOM is what got me into team-based shooters. SOCOM is the reason I play Rainbow Six: Siege and Battlefield. I could grab a buddy, squad up, and like the old days when I was a kid, we could coordinate our actions to absolutely ruin the competition. Were this series to come back faithful to the first two games, I'd buy ten cpoies.

The best thing about SOCOM in general was, that it was tactical but not too demanding like the original R6 with its very long planning phase. You could jump into any single-player mission and you had a tactical plan laid out to you, which you could execute, choose your way of doing it or simply not doing it.
SOCOM wont come back, but if there would be a game which could balance out the tactical-aspect with accessible gameplay for people who dont have much free time. I think COD is so popular, because its perfect for people who dont have much time to play video games.
If somebody could turn the COD-formula into a more open, tactical solution it would sell in my opinion.
I got the first SOCOM game on PS2 and was like THERE MUST BE MORE so I bought all of the rest and played them in order and this game series... Was... just... amazing!!!
When I was little, SOCOM 2 was my first shooter game, for some reason my game had like 2 disks in the box and I only had the first, so I only had access to the first mission, but I replayed it thousands of times, and I would dress up as military as I could, even with a backpack as a satchel from the game, and I would play with my little cousin like he was part of my squad. When I learned about Call of Duty, I didn't like it at all, because I was used to SOCOM, and seeing everyone uncoordinated running around the MAP and having to die every 5 seconds and respawning, I just didn't see the appeal. As I grow older I started to like CoD more and more, but I still loved SOCOM the way it was, it was immersive and made you feel like you were actually a soldier, you had to think everything through and you didn't regenerate health, you had to use your teammates, while in CoD you run around all the time, if you get hurt, just hide for a second to heal back, and your teammates do what they are supposed to do. I even downloaded a PS2 emulator and the SOCOM 2 game so I could play the whole campaign and it was awesome, I even downloaded it yesterday again to play it in my jailbroken ps3, it's simply too good of a game. It's a shame we will never get a new game, but it was awesome what we got while it lasted.

I played SOCOM 2, 3, CA & Confrontation. I must have had thousands of hours between them all.
In my opinion, I enjoyed Combined Assault and Confrontation the most. I know those are not commonly peoples favorites, but to this day I would give a kidney to have those games up and playable again.
Unparalleled gameplay. Games where patience, teamwork, stealth and skill were absolutely crucial to every single match. A game where a pistol was every bit as deadly as a rifle in the right hands.
I remember a particular match in CA - playing the map Harvester. I was using a Mark 23, and dealt out clean headshots to 7/8 players on the enemy team.
I remember another match on Confrontation - Urban Wasteland. My entire team was slaughtered only seconds into the match, it was 1v7. I crept around with a suppressed 226 and proceeded to clean out the entire enemy team just by listening for their footsteps and voices. When the match was over my team was losing their shit - congratulating me saying that they had never seen someone pull off such an awesome comeback.
Best gaming days of my life playing SOCOM titles. Nothing since has ever captured my attention, made me feel so immersed, or made me feel so satisfied from winning as SOCOM did.

Thanks for making this. Soccom games on Ps2 were simulation games like Gran Turismo and flight simulator. COD games are fun but they are arcade games like NBA jam and nfl blitz. I’ve seen 5 year olds get MVP scores in COD once they properly ranked up there load outs and kill streaks. Game developers used to be obsessed with realism when 3D graphic games first started getting made now all they care about is making it that no one gets owned to badly so the keep playing even tho there skills aren’t adapting and improving.
Socom was my 1st online shooter ever. 1st clan ever. 1st tryout to be in a clan. No game since has been able to provide the experience Socom did.
If you still have a copy of the game or the original console you can still play online using lan. There’s a program that allows you to do some. Rooms are active at night and around 9PM.
1 life a round! Third person also sold me, because I hate first person shooters. Took part in all the SOCOM beta’s except SOCOM 1’s beta. They really messed things up with SOCOM 4! Navy SEALs are badass enough, no need to tweak that. Seth Luisi messes it all up, he caved to the Sony suits!

These games almost made me become a Navy SEAL, until I found out how much Astrobiology interested me.
I remember SOCOM. But I was only about 7 years old, and I never understood it, but I still managed to get a few levels in. I should go back and replay it one of these days; I still have the disk and the box. You know what game I played more than SOCOM, though? Conflict: Desert Storm.
Bought a PS2 in 2019. I've been building a collection of PS2 games. There's a special feeling playing them. The emersion was real and didn't feel generic. I wish devs would step back and look at what was instead of what everyone else is doing now.
Let's start a petition for socom fire bravo team 2 or 3 or the best socom and let's get them to put a server up and charge $10 on psn or £7.99 for UK let's go. Teamwork makes the dreamwork.
I'm in the Barbados defense force, and I can say...this game IS THE BEST tactical shooter ever played. what I love about it..your team really IS the key to mission success. All squad tactics and knowledge of combat and infiltration all play a key role. I have played 1 to 3 and I can say 2 is my favourite. I love the mission in Yemen where the ambassador must be extracted. CODMW is an action shooter to me, but if you really want to experience an idea of what tension and difficult missions u s special operations operators go through...SOCOM was\and still is the game.
This game made me respect USSOCOM forces, with the make shift tasks they undertake unknowingly to the world.

I remember playing SOCOM confrontation as a squeaker, and having a part in a clan - I felt so mature as a 10 year old haha. It was cool to play to rank 7 in a game with some tactical thought and teamwork in its core - having a mic was an absolute must and that is something I've not seen even in CS:GO (the nearest alternative to the game to satisfy that tactical itch for me.) I was gutted that my mum didn't - rightfully - trust PSN so I could use her card to get the DLC for that one map pack. Always has a place in my heart, that game. For all the derision that game's bugs had, the confrontation haters won't ever see a game like it again. :(
SOCOM IS ONE OF FAVORITE GAME SINCE BACK ON PS2 THROUGH PS4. I REMEMBER WE WON THE FROSBITE CHAMPION ON PS3 CLAN MATCH.

My response focusses only on the online multiplayer experience.
Currently I have a kind of sentimental flashback. I quit playing COD and wait for BF1, hoping for the return of strategy and tactics, a variety of accepted playstyles and boots on the ground without any fancy stuff. Unfortunately online shooters on console in which an ingame life matter and multiple rounds for finishing a game are rare. Rainbow Six Siege does not look appealing to me.
Basically I played socom online since the beginning. I remember well how gun skill and movement have not been it all. Tactical behaviour from hardcore camping to aggressive rushing, changing pace in the current round, communication, PTFOing have been so exciting that even my wife sat beside me and watched, commentated and became exaspertated with what was happening on the screen. There only has been a second game series which she liked to watch: MGS.
Socom is the odd one out. Too many have no ptience for dying in the first 30 seconds an waiting another 5 minutes for the new round. Too many are not interesting in spectating team members and learning from them. Too many are not intersted in the communications in between the round. Too many want to rage or complain about the opposing team or player instead of making call outs and comming to an agreement about how to defeat the enemy. Most of the online players are looking for non stop action, bigger than life experiences and as much variety in as short a time frame as possible. Socom had nearly none of that.
Yes, socom had its flaws. It was laggy due to the lack of network smoothing technologys, the netcode was simple and the loading times were ...well ... hell. ;-) The maps grew bigger and bigger, too big at the end. Socom lost its focus, gamers lost their interest in such games. No market, no game. Great memories, sentimentality will not help. I think that there only a hardcore fanbase is left. I would like to pay 10 bucks a month to play that game online again, but it is not going to happen.

There's a game called "Task Force" on Steam, supposed to have come out this year, but nobody really knows when it's going to release. It looks like our best hope at a SOCOM-style game. Look out for it!
