For me the NES version is the most iconic because it was my first exposure to this series and this piece of music. However my favorite has to go to Gradius V's rendition.
0:00 Man, If we could get the percussion of the SNES on this track this would be amazing. 2:35 sounds really close to my definition of perfect if played at 1.25 speed.
@@genericnamehere7602 Agreed. If by some miracle we get a *Gradius VI,* that same tone is kept for the game that V nailed. The whole game had a more more serious sci-fi feel and look to it. Not as "video gamey" and colorful as previous installments; having a more muted scheme.
Didn't realize the name of this song was called "Poison of Snake", I just figured it was just called the Salamander Boss theme. O_0 You learn something new everyday.
Still one of the most ominous and effective BGM's ever to grace a video game. Each time I played a new Gradius game, hearing this track suddenly start up sent chills down my back and made me wonder "oh GOD which Lifeforce boss did they drag up from Hell to pit against me..."
I've played them all since 1986, when here it's called LifeForce, other places it's called Salamander. To me Gradius V and Gorgeous kinda goes neck and neck. With Gradius V, you get the sinister version, while with Goregous you get a version that makes you dance to it.
MSX and Gradius 2 arcade are my favourite versions. Both are crisp and clear and don't have too many instruments contaminating what the actual tune is (if that makes sense).
also check this one out- the theme appears in this game when you fight the first boss from Salamander in a cameo. Pretty cool! Monster Maulers OST - Brain Golem Boss
I know. -_- But they did say I can send in my ideas. ^_^ But if I told Sega about it, they'd have a word with them. ^^ They care about their fans which is why I'm totally a Sega fan. :)
I find Gradius V Poison of Snake theme the best ^_^. But wait til you hear the one in Gradius VI I'm making my Gradius VI (6) ideas to send to Konami and it's poison of snake theme will be the best. Remixed the same as Gradius V Game Over theme only this time it will truelly play like the original ^_^.
It's beyond time we've finally gotten a *Gradius VI* and a *Salamander 3* now that Konami is FINALLY getting their s*** together. That and the Gradius series' 40th anniversary is coming soon in 2025.
Castlevania wasn't too bad. However with the right amount of effort I think Salamander could do with a revive or a remaster on the latest gen consoles.
+Remix Rave I never sayed that those games were bad, actually they are pretty cool, I was a fan of Castlevania until they downgraded a lot in the newer entrys.
Also, how have Konami themselves fucked this up so badly themselves in recent years? Do they just not give a shit about the series anymore? (Did I even need to ask?)
Fun fact, a remix of this song also appeared in Ganbare Goemon 3 where you fight a Tetran-like airship, complete with tentacles. ruclips.net/video/hsNBKQpV8YE/видео.html
BTW I don't count Gradius V at all. Not a bad arrange but the game just sucked IMHO. Totally the odd one out. Really unpopular opinion but I think Rebirth is the best since 3.

アップロードありがとうございます!
個人的にはグラIIがアーケードが好きです。
Neoはインパクトありますね!初めて聞きました!
グラIVやパロにはなかったのですね。それも意外でした。
"An intruder has penetrated our force field."
IceHighwind
Destroy the core
Danger danger. Danger danger. Danger danger
"DESTROY EYE OF MUTANT!"
I love the X68000 version. It's startlingly metal for 16-bit
MSX is my favourite version, the synth where the melody kicks in is so cool.
Gradius II and III's Tetran is BANGER.
Gradius 5 version is the most powerful...
It sounds like some dark souls music or something
Sounds a bit like Portal 2
Oto X slaps pretty hard too.
Truly epic
0:00 Man, If we could get the percussion of the SNES on this track this would be amazing.
2:35 sounds really close to my definition of perfect if played at 1.25 speed.
Gradius V has the best version
It sounds properly menacing.

You learn something new everyday.
got the first one as my Ringtone, such a classic!.
I love the Salamander OVA one, sounds funky. Gradius V's version's the best one, tho.
JD thunder more like LENI THUNDER
Still one of the most ominous and effective BGM's ever to grace a video game. Each time I played a new Gradius game, hearing this track suddenly start up sent chills down my back and made me wonder "oh GOD which Lifeforce boss did they drag up from Hell to pit against me..."
Answer almost always being Cruiser Tetran or the Brain Golem.
really nostaligic to hear this. Game from my childhood. :)
The NES version is always my favorite. The bass in the first half reminds me of a pool of sticky, boiling “poison of the snake”!
One of the best boss themes ever!
Old or not, it still carries power!
This song and The X files' theme are the perfect representation of the UFOS.
***** It fits Perfectly!

This is actually one of my favorite gradius songs since I was a kid. x3
MSX and Gradius 2 arcade are my favourite versions. Both are crisp and clear and don't have too many instruments contaminating what the actual tune is (if that makes sense).
The first MSX version sounds really powerful and threatening. hail konami scc!
Definitely can agree the MSX version is exceptionally well done. Many of the other ones are great, too.
@@Tacoguy777 Listening now 30 years after it came out all I can say is good god the SCC was amazing.

Akira Yamaoka did Otomedius X's version? This is the dude that composed for the *Silent Hill* games!
also check this one out- the theme appears in this game when you fight the first boss from Salamander in a cameo. Pretty cool!
Monster Maulers OST - Brain Golem Boss
OH WOW! i never know this one!
アップありがとでした。
オトメディウスに時代に取り残された感が…。😅
Heading further ahead inaugurated power force field.
Man, wish i listened to this first before I covered it on guitar.
Perfect song for the moment we get invaded by evil aliens.
6:43 Will this suffice? 🐍
I know. -_- But they did say I can send in my ideas. ^_^ But if I told Sega about it, they'd have a word with them. ^^ They care about their fans which is why I'm totally a Sega fan. :)
Well the OVA version is certainly a new one for me. I've not heard that one before!
ACESpark It was made for the Japanese anime of Gradius.
10:45 catchy
This makes the hair stand up on the back of my hands.
Amazing. Didnt know it was called this. Love the Gradius series
The best shoot em up boss theme of all time.
Fantastic^^NIce Job^^Well Done^^
Wau! Magnífico 👌🎩
Gradius V and Salamander (NES) are the best versions.
zharziss Gradius V is where I first heard it from.
2 years too late...but I think the NES version of Gradius II is better. Drums are spot on.
To 164 Tetran's liked this.
Arcade 3 and NEO are my favorite versions.
I can't be the only one that likes the Salamander 2 version....
You're not alone...🐍
Favorite versions of Poison of Snake in order:
1. Otomedius G
2. Gradius II X68000
3. Salamander PCE
4. Gradius II NES
5. Gradius III
Replying to 5 year old post lol. Agree with your no.1
@@zobu312 why is it No 1
Gradius V sounds like Portal 2
Glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed that synth effect.
Salamander Portable is the coolest one in my opninion.Too bad there's almost no good quality gameplay on RUclips so as to hear it in action :/
1:20からのやつが初めてやった沙羅曼蛇のシリーズだった
沙羅曼蛇の蛇🐍DAZE!
I think the NES one is the best out of all of these - it emphasizes the bass, which to me, was what the song was always about.
Actually the NES ver. lacks complejity, comparing it to MSX or PCEngine version it sounds bad (for me at least)
Totally agree. The bass is all about the “poison”!
READY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! DESTROY MAGMA 6-GH!
Sounds pretty good, though.
Yes. XD But Sega cares about their fans, so I'll have them have a word with Konami, to get them to listen. ^_^
Hey buddy, you missed one. Monster Maulers OST - Brain Golem Boss
the last one sounds like salamander 2 boss 1 LOL
This tune reminds me of the other Lifeforce, the space vampire movie
Urvy1A I think the Salamander 2 theme would make a perfect fit.
I totally agree. ^_^
Holy shit, the Otomedius Excellent sounds phenomenal!
Woah, the X68000 version's drums sound really heavy and distorted.
nice!!! XD
It's beyond time we've finally gotten a *Gradius VI* and a *Salamander 3* now that Konami is FINALLY getting their s*** together. That and the Gradius series' 40th anniversary is coming soon in 2025.
Actually, snake is not poisonous, venomous indeed!
Arcade Salamander is the best IMHO but the MSX is surprisingly good! PCE is better but second place has to go to Salamander 2.
Gradius 3 and 5 are the best versions.
I prefer arcade and MSX versions. My dad tries to get to level 4 everyday and i'm sitting their listening to the music XD
Arcade, MSX and PCEngine are my best choices out there, the NES still cant make a good sound? XD cheers to your dad
Unfortunately the NES lacks sound complexity. But yeah the music in salamander is somewhat atmospheric.
+Remix Rave Very atmospheric in my opinion.
Sadly Kashnami dont remember this class of sagas for the overrating of Metal Gear and bad Castlevanias :/
Castlevania wasn't too bad. However with the right amount of effort I think Salamander could do with a revive or a remaster on the latest gen consoles.
+Remix Rave
I never sayed that those games were bad, actually they are pretty cool, I was a fan of Castlevania until they downgraded a lot in the newer entrys.
gradius v kills it
salamander pc engine and otomedius is best

Salamander HD remake and outomedius is the best
BES TETRAN!
Also, how have Konami themselves fucked this up so badly themselves in recent years? Do they just not give a shit about the series anymore? (Did I even need to ask?)
Destroy eye of demon
imao, no version ever beats the original arcade one and the unique 0:36 part.
Gradius v 2 and 3 called
1:20 TOTOO LANG!
7:20 The best
Credit goes to Hitoshi Sakamoto. 🎶
The ova version is very vapourwave
O.V.A. version have some special sort of mysticism...beautifully done
Gradius Neo version impressed me a hell lot, considering is a Java Game...just wow
Salamander was so much easier than life force.
Can we just pretend that Otomedius didn't happen?
Why
Why? It had some pretty great remixes.
@@UltraEpicLeader10020 Case in point: Excellent's version of "Poison of Snake".
Lol brain golem
Poor brain golem. Kinda felt sorry for him in Salamander 2, but OH MAN, that first time you play it and see what happens...
Sega Genesis
Fun fact, a remix of this song also appeared in Ganbare Goemon 3 where you fight a Tetran-like airship, complete with tentacles.
ruclips.net/video/hsNBKQpV8YE/видео.html
But the Otomedius (arcade) got more "branches" of the song that would make it exciting to play.
Does anyone hear the mario airship theme? (Mario 3)
UFO PORNO!
