For those new to boating/engines, Trent covers a lot of ground in this video, if you are listening carefully. One big deal he mentioned, was gas/oil which is mixed--for SOME engines and for sure, NOT for an engine, like this one, with its own oil reservoir (four strokes). The difference is a big deal. The other thing is impellers, it is THE one thing we all need to keep up with--and change frequently so it does not go out on us at the worst time--and somehow it seems to happen at..the worst time. He also mentioned "make sure it is in neutral" when you pull the starter--maybe today's engines are better than the past--and maybe they won't start if you do NOT have it in neutral--but in the past, it was THE way to get yourself tossed out of the boat, cranking that damn thing with the gear shift, in gear. You also notice his friend and he are wearing life jackets, for a long time it was the law for kids to have one on while the boat was moving, and often for kids, anytime they were in the boat at all. But for adults it was usually optional. That led to many deaths, smart money for one and all, is have the damn thing on--and they make so many comfortable designs, it really is "why not" have it on? Safe boating, have a good time but do remember it is serious too.
Nice little 6hp, I had so any choose, like Honda, Mercury .... 8hp... but it's more money... so I bought Suzuki 6hp.. it's look good and it's still good run on 12" or 14" boat in lake or river...!!! ... thanks guy and see you guy out there this Sumer coming up...🤪🤪🤪
Well it’s on the bigger side, but I liked my ‘06 Yamaha 15hp 2 stroke the best. It was easiest to work on, had the best power, and the closest boat shop near me was a Yamaha dealer so it was easy getting parts. The impeller went out while I was out on it at night and I didn’t noticed it stopped peeing since it was dark so I overheated the seized the engine unfortunately
I didn’t have the engine for very long, but it was good to me during that time. Though I would hope since it was a couple years old at the time. I have a 2017 15hp Suzuki EFI now and it’s been good. Water got into the gas tank which made me have to replace the fuel injectors and fuel pump.
I know this is like 8 months late, but that outfit I was wearing are grüdens a heavy duty work set for working on boats and wet environments. Completely love them.
Maybe with 1 person. With 2 it wouldn’t plane. If you get an 8hp it’ll plane with 2 people. I had a 98 Mercury 8hp and it would easily do it on the jon
Is it me or does it say 5 hp🤷.By the way you pitch prop is way too big. I've just bought a 2018 and factory came with the largest pitch. This is not great meaning the engine will not be getting up to speed. Check to see if you have the largest prop 7.5 by 7 pitch if you do drop down to the 6.5 or 6. you can buy a £6 tiny tach metre from eBay to see what revs you are pulling. You want to be pulling near the maximum 5750 rpm at full speed. This will mean your hole shot will greatly improve and top speed should be 15mph🙋
I’ve got a newer 2018 model of this engine and it has been very problematic. The exhaust valve seizes up if it is stored longer than a few weeks. It has happened four times. It has been serviced and stored properly, and went to the shop, and had the complete valve train and the cylinder head replaced under warranty. The problem still persists. I’ll never buy another Suzuki. Looking at the online forums, this issue has been reported by others, so Suzuki has a problem with their valves. The repair shop even stated that, when I picked the engine up.
Shitty motor and shitty service. Can’t even be stored outside, without valves seizing up. Instructions say must be stored inside in a dry room. Not fit for keeping in a marine environment. Mine is fine, as long as it is kept inside in a dry garage. If I keep it on the lazarette mount on the boat,it will only last about two weeks.
@@rodgraff1782 Every motor has pros and cons. I heard newer honda outboards only start when your lucky! Even larger displacement engines$$$ Store it inside and quit whining.

I just bought one of these today. Thank you for this. It helps
I'm glad to hear that
Great outboard. Use it for fishing with a 320 Hifei. Max speed with 1 person: 25km/h and with 2 person: 16km/h
Good outboard! Haha, we are the ones who work hard on RUclips! I subscribed to your channel!!!!,
Can you show me where it draws water and spits it out? Mine only trickles water out barely while I'm running it
Wish I could, I sold it long ago
Unscrew the black plastic nozzle. My one had bits of blue plastic blocking the flow. This was on a brand new motor
@@6___________99_____________64 i got it fixed, ,it was a screw up underneath in the back, a big one!
Is this, in your opinion the best of the small kicker motors? Why, why not? Thanks

How much for the motor. I'm interested. How many hours you got, have you taken it to get serviced?
how has the reliability of this engine been?

Did you according to the manual brake in program? before commissioning.
I did not. I got the motor used. I was told it had about 25 hours on it when I purchased it
not really interested as i already own a suzuki 6 hp.. but that life jacket that issac is wearing is dope! where can i buy one? lol. nice set up btw

Faster than Yamaha 6HP.
Did it get on a plane with that motor?
Maybe with 1 person. With 2 it wouldn’t plane. If you get an 8hp it’ll plane with 2 people. I had a 98 Mercury 8hp and it would easily do it on the jon
Weight of the boat?
It was a narrow 12ft jon, I’d say it was a little under 90kg/200lbs

6hp
When he takes the lid off the motor it shows a 6 when you zoom in on the lid
what's the weight of the boat itself?
It was probably a little under 90kgs/200lbs
What size is the boat
12ft and about it’s not that wide
Probably not the best idea burning premixed gas/2 stroke oil in a 4 stroke motor.
It really sucks adding gas on the lake. Invest in a line and tank!

Good Motor shitty service , dealer (lack of ) , parts (lack of always wait ) , sorry my experience and only the truth .
if its a good motor then why worry so much about parts/service? Lol.
mine never breaks down either.
@@shawnhuis9016 does these models still have valve sticking and pushed back rod

Такую лодку инспекция по маломерным судам обязана сразу же арестовать и утилизировать. Это же не безопасно.
