2012 Camaro SS vs Dodge Charger SRT8 Drag Race Quarter Mile
This was filmed at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison Colorado.
Elevation is just under 6000 feet above sea level.

Can't believe how that SRT came back from the reaction time, great race!!
ok, to set the record straight, I WAS DRIVING THE CAMARO. The driver of the charger was a family friend. Neither of us had driven the cars on the track before that race, which took place at Bandimere, OVER 6000 ft altitude. The SRT was modded, my car was bone stock. I took him on the tree, but his extra hp ran me down at the trap. I got the win light because or my reaction time primarily.
I stand corrected, 5800' in altitude

I had an 07 SRT8, similar to the one in this video, and it had a 6.1L 370 cu. in. engine putting out about 425 HP and about matching torque. The cars ran decent times considering their altitude. That is a Camaro SS, with a 6.2L putting out only 1 more HP and about 9 lbs. ft. less of torque. My yellow jacket has the new 6.4L 392, which is putting out the numbers BloodstainedSinner is takling about. Good video!

15 seconds on both cars? where is this track at? arizona where its 120 degrees? Both of those cars should be in the low 13s.
If you go to the track the time starts when you leave the line, it does not matter when the light turns green, the time starts as soon as you move.

About what you'd expect at elevation for both cars
Amazing what altitude will do. I was shattered as to how my car ran with an additional 2000' in altitude. It doesn't effect turbo or s/c cars as much in percentage of power loss.
I ran 14.38 at Inyokern at 2457 feet and at Fomoso at 427 feet a 13.93 in a 1985 Corvette (only cat back, under drive pulley, 3.73 gears). Altitude kills power esp. NA.
The fact that the charger had a bad start, and was behind by a good 2 to 3 car lengths then caught up with the SS and passed it shows that either Chevy sucks or that driver needs to go back to drivers school. Imagine he had a good jump it wouldn't even be fair.
The SRT8 is modded, the SS is bone stock, it should have gapped him from the start.

I was thinking both the cars were slow as hail, but then after seeing they are 6000' above sea level, that's actually pretty good.
A 14.9 is horrendous for those cars , has to be something seriously wrong . My SS runs low 13.s stock with me spinning the 20 inch street tires lol. I got a 2010 LS3 stock except for a muffler delete , and I'm almost in the high 12's

this is an older charger. this one makes about 430 stock. the NEW ones make 470. Which is even more impressive for dodge and SRT

right I run 08 srt Charger it runs a 12.3. All I have is a cat delete and a tune by jay green

Charger all day.. currently I have a 2013 charger RT 5.7 pushing 400 at the wheels waiting to install a procharger on it instant 100hp gain, plus reduce some weight. but I want it for power to have when some one wants to think they'll smoke me and get smoked...
No they're not. Only after 2011 they came with the 392. Before the 2011 model all SRT-8's had the 6.1 HEMI.
Yeah it has something to do with the different insurance classes, there is a trick to pay a very low price for the charger, but the camaro has it's own class and that's a pretty high one
Must be high altitude for 2 hi 12-low13 second cars to take almost 15 seconds, and at least one of them doesn’t have stock exhaust, good tight race though

I don't know this I just seen a video of these two plus a 5.0 Mustang and the Srt8 got left in the dust by the SS Camaro and the 5.0 GT Mustang.

not that it matters...but that is the prior generation SRT-8 with the 6.1 H.P. v-8. The new one has a 6.4 liter with 470 H.P.

higher elevation. my 2012 camaro ss 6 speed stock was running 13.3 in Virginia. i'm running 11.6-11.8 now with my mods. higher elevation will equate to slower times on any vehicle.

@awaters0206 both cars ran almost 15 seconds. Both cars stock numbers are low 13s. The DA was almost 6000 according to the driver of the Camaro so the results make sense. Being in a very hot high altitude area like that destroys times for every car. You're shitting all over the Charger but forget the Camaro ran practically the same 15s time. DA and heat is everything my friend. If you brought these 2 cars down to seat level and it was 60 degrees out, they'd be pushing high 12s almost.

most newer cars compensate them selves as best they can for elevation changes but at this level there is nothing you can do to equal it out. trust me its gonna "matter "regardless of your tune, you will be much slower!

Speaking of racing school, here's a free lesson.
The time doesn't start until you move. You can sit there and wait 15 seconds, and still run a 10 second 1/4 mile. Reaction times aren't factored in these sorts of races.
Umm, guys, see all the pretty lights on the Camaro's side @ 1:24? That means the Camaro won. I know most of you don't understand how the track works and you just think the quicker displayed time wins the race, but reaction time is significant.

This model of the SRT8 is actually the 06-10 model, which only puts 425 to the wheels with the 6.1L HEMI.

This race track must've been at a high elevation with less air, cuz these times are slow for these cars. They both run faster than this.
Yes, Bandimere is around 6k elevation actual but the DA is often closer to 10k. I took my bone stock 2019 Charger Scat Pack (392) there and could only pull a 13.8 on the crappy Pirellis.
That was not an ss. I destroy challengers r/t manuals and I'm completely stock. I also have 6mt, somethings up with that camaro .

I just moved on a new orange SS from a 40 roll twice. In 3rd I pulled both times and we got a redlight, I heated tires and he backed off. I'm sure he was telling his old lady "watch this guy" and I didn't. got the clutch out, saw him not move..... yeah so I drug out 1st a lil then burned 1st powershift 2nd, a little sideways and that was it. Beforehand, I tried to wave and thumbs up. He would never look. I hate those kind. Michigan plates.... no wonder my 94 M6 Z28 pulled him... they can't drive
bigger is not better, especially in cars. That hemi gets the gas mileage of a hummer and older dodges (I don't know about newer ones) tear up like theres no tomorrow.

That Charger is not a 392. It has a 6.1L HEMI rated at 425 hp. And I would say the SRT's are about like race cars....that's why they have STREET & RACING TECHNOLOGY lol.

Doesn't matter if it's brackets, qtr tree... heads up... time and speed is all that matters. Simply put, both cars left on the same synchronize light. The Camaro was way ahead of the charger. And lost. Again... the driver of the Camaro needs to learn how to shift to the right gears at the right time. Either that or the Charger had something 'special' for him on the long end of the track in which case, the Camaro never really had a chance.

even though your comment was 5 months ago I would still love to give you my opinion... I hated driving it feels like a chore... I needed a car though because my mom stopped letting me use her mitsubishi. I had around 34k to spend. If im going to drive i at least have to look good doing it... I bought a 2010 camaro ss... and my friend I love driving SO MUCH NOW! i got the 2ss which comes with leather seats and all that good stuff so of course it makes the inside look very nice as well. A lot of ppl hate on the camaro but because of that car I am now a chevy fan and plan on buying the corvette stingray in 4 years or so... also the chevy camaro has a slimmer look if you like dodge I'd say go for the challenger not a charger...
I bought a challenger RT last month. I love it. I took the Camaro for a test drive too but something just didn't feel right. im very pleased with the challenger although I don't get to enjoy it as heavy snowfalls and tmps of -30 started now for the next 6 months
