I think what is missing here is most of the time the built car costs more. Ever specced good stuff? $15k for a good fuel injection system. $30k for a blower setup. $5k here, $10k there. And all the labor that goes into it. If you're not doing it, you're paying thousands on thousands for someone to do it for you. Versus the weekend warrior who wrote a check and is having just as much fun, with a warranty, and for less money
MSRP on a Hellcat starts at like $75K and I’m pretty you can’t touch one for less than $100K. A basic Mustang GT isn’t really even going to beat anything and it’ll cost you $50K new. My friend’s sub-11 second Civic Hatchback cost him blood and sweat and about $10K all in. With a Hellcat budget he could probably reach lower orbit. @@t_c5266 see there we are probably talking about different eras. For starters I’m not talking about Coyote Mustangs. Those didn’t exist when I was around him. Secondly, a 1999 Civic hatchback weighs about 1,600lbs less than the same year Mustang…which is the Mustangs we were shitting on. You’d have to strap your sand rail to a Civic to make a Mustang’s weight class. The biggest mod he made to the engine was swapping it out entirely for a larger vehicle’s engine and installing a cheap turbo kit. I wouldn’t even argue it was a good build or that it still runs. "Built vs bought" is such a low class phrase. We all put time in to go fast. How you get it done doesn't matter. I've built and bought and it's the same sweat.
For a daily driver that you can also take to the drag strip, bought is better. But building one up gives you that much more pride in what you drive not to mention the money you can save for the same amount of fun
Cars that are built by the person themselves is where the saying originated from. Taking X vehicle to any performance shop with mods you bought online is no better or worse than buying a new performance vehicle off the lot at a dealer.
Built Vs. Bought is quite literally just Stock vs. Unrestricted. It’s not really that hard of a modification to make a Mustang Dark Horse beat any of these cars.
I feel like most of the "bought" cars also double as daily drivers. The built cars are mostly dedicated drag racing cars, which I assume are extremely unreliable compared to the original stock configuration. You can make a car a LOT faster if all it's really expected to do is make a 1/4 mile between maintenance intervals and anything unnecessary for that task can be stripped out. Really shouldn't even be in the same class for the most part.
But that's not exactly correct. In many cases a built car wasn't at the level of a bought car. But the made it level up by working on it using their own intellect and hard work. The bought car, they paid a professional team to do all that for them.
@@jimmyboy131 Wrong, Bought Cars are meant to be…. Cars. They go on Highways at sixty miles an hour. Now certain cars like Mustangs are meant to go fast, but they’re meant mainly to drive places. It's crazy how Nova's are still some of the most absolutely amazing drag cars even though most of the ones racing were built almost 60 years ago
Built: "Pull it over so we can fix it!"
Bought: "Set an appointment for Tuesday so they can fix it."
Might as well be driving around wearing a Dealer plate 😂
Love that Grand National to start the video, and also it's sister the Regal T-type towards the end ❤
That VW is a straight up tube chassis with a bug body on it. 😆
Pro tip: if you see a wheelie bar or a parachute - you’ve already lost.
I’ll never doubt my glorious hellcat ever again, I thought that beetle had something dangerous under the hood
Came for the super beetles. Was not disappointed. Stayed for the show.
Thx to the camera guy for keeping the tree in view
You might want to check what your warranty says about drag racing.
@@admdubya2107 please explain his kit that totaled to $10k.
And as you do it, look up those parts on summit before you belive the $10k number.
I tell people I spent only $3k on my sand rail, knowing damn well is closer to $6k. With all labor done myself and no large item purchases like intakes or carbs.
If he's got a civic that runs faster than a 5.0 mustang he's dropped some serious coin on it, considering they come stock with 120hp versus the mustang 400+
It almost certainly doesn’t. But when it was good it was great. Scary fast FWD ain’t for me though. Shit ain’t right.
@@admdubya2107 I guess that kinda is the difference right? The hellcat will race all day and then also drive home. And do it again each weekend without touching it. The civic was probably a deathtrap each go and had to be rebuilt every other week
@@t_c5266 mostly fair…I’d only counter that the Hellcat apparently doesn’t actually get traction until third gear going 105 if you aren’t at the track lol. That’s sketchy as hell too.
That 2nd bug started with his math homework, and phenominal LaUnCh!
Bashing built cars is lazy and uneducated. You take a car that has no guys and turn it into a beast, that's a thing of beauty.
the blue hellcat was a redeye
I don’t know anything about drag racing, but why are they appearing to slightly drift halfway down the track?
What happened to that poor civic at 3:40??
I’m guessing they wanted to shift into 4th but accidentally shifted into 2nd… aka a money shift ⚙️💥
I would love it if Disney made another Herbie movie, and he TORCHES some dude’s Charger on the 1/4 mile. That’s what that looked like. Beautiful!
Last pair looks to be built vs built. But how annoying to line up with the prelude.
That whipple mustang flew!!!
First race is exactly what I rember my buddies GN launched off the boost. Felt like raw power tweaking the chassis and the rear axle trying to pass the car. One of the wildest rides I have been in on the street and I don't mean straight lines.
6:13 that launch was crazy tho
Amazing how twin turbos with additives destorys all modern vehicles above 100 Gs
Until you put the turbo on the bought car......
Turns out if you force an insane amount of boost in an engine and tune the fuel appropriately, car go fast. (Assuming the engine doesn't destroy itself in the process)
Built cars will always out run bought, but when the bought cars get built upgrades then….😂
Well this video has determined that is a lie.
@@BlueMax717right cayse its so obvious some of those “bought cars” are built to 😂 i was like yea alr “bought my ahh”
When the bought cars get upgrades they have to visit the car doctor on occasions.
(Mechanic)-[fyi]
But at least the built cars have a self service doctor in the front seat. And free of service 😋
@@guerostaybannedthey’re expensive because they come kitted already ? A hellcat is an uptrim of Challenger/Charger so it’s technically built. Hard to work on high end cars that already perform amazing.
@@NateBarajas1234 bro what ?😭😭 i didn’t say anything abt that
"dude my car is so fast in a straight line you have no idea bro." "Buddy, pal, guy you just get me on a 1/4 mile straight road ill beat any bought car bro"
its still pretty damn impressive that you can buy a vehicle off the lot that can go as fast as this, and still daily-drive it with quality of life features like AC
Last 2 cars lookied like they came out of NFS Pro street
These cars go vroom!
There’s something really cool about someone making something do something it really shouldn’t be able to do. Quick fwd cars are very cool.
5:40 You know you lost when your opponent has to slow down with a parachute
"Built vs bought" is such a low class phrase. We all put time in to go fast. How you get it done doesn't matter.
I've built and bought and it's the same sweat.
Sounds like someone bought a car that got smoked by a built car 😂😂
@@brocksamson9737 nah, my bought speed is a few sportbikes over the years. :)
@@icecl0udyeah bikes are an entirely different beast my dude 😬
@@S.rosalie.lopez1 uh huh. That's not what car dudes say when they win. ;)
For a daily driver that you can also take to the drag strip, bought is better. But building one up gives you that much more pride in what you drive not to mention the money you can save for the same amount of fun
the Patina Beetle though lmao
funny how my builds always suck but whenever i buy someone elses builds they work fine haha
The take away I get from this is. Built to do one thing vs Bought to drive on roads
Both have been bought and built Unless you're saying the car was stolen and is unassembled. More accurate tittle is Factory specs vs Custom specs.
When I saw the duckbill spoiler, parachute and insanely wide drag radials I knew it wasn't even gonna be close for the mustang.
A built car has one purpose. Racing. Bought cars have restrictions like trying not to go under ten miles a gallon, and trying not to break down after 50k miles.
@@kindsteel5 A built car can be a race only car, but that's not what I'm thinking of. I'm thinking of a driving car that has been modified for greater performance.
3:53 the music matches the moment!
RUclips algorithm we meet once again...
🍻 This was the quintessential verbiage that pays homage to, "Draw your LAST pathetic card, Yugi!" - "My grandpa's deck HAS no pathetic cards Kaiba!!" - "Agh, IMPOSSIBLE!!!"
I’m kinda dumb but anyone know what the white car is at 6:14
Yeehaw muh went fast in a straight line, John boy.
That second beetle was a very cool car they had on that engine
Fun fact: 8:31, the first Porsche Cayenne from 2002 can pull about 13.3 - 13.7 seconds
excellent video.
the second VW looks so sleepy it almost has the opposite effect like if I’m that maro I’m thinking damn this lil shit can is about to make me look stupid….
Were the built cars donated? If they weren’t bought
I don't get it. It's not even about Built vs Bought. All these cars are running against themselves. If you had a 20 second car, nailed the light every time and came in right on the 20 second mark. You would be the race winner, every single time. It's not about the car, it's about the driver.
What happened on that last race? 🤔
I like big power!! My issue is my accord has 489kmi. Daily driven. Manual its a good car. Thankful to God for thar good running car. I habe a suburban though farm truck here i come lol.
In 1996, Herbie, the powerful beetle, completely outperformed a 1966 Ford Mustang. While a Mustang would finish the quarter mile in 12.4 seconds, Mr. Herbert, the super beetle, was consistently running in the mid-9 second range.
Nah that buggy at 2:10 looks like it should be in Death Race; he just forgot to mount his guns
2:50 big tires, parachute, wheelie bar - you just know it's got at least 1200hp and that you don't stand a chance.
The Nissan GT-R completely won the Honda, good job to the driver!💥
