    The coconut milk looked pretty thin. I didnt see anything that made me think there was much coconut cream in that coconut milk. If you're looking to mimic heavy cream, go with a can of coconut cream. Thai Gardens sells it and Ive found it at more than a few grocery store chains. However heavy cream is usually what I see in most Tikka Masala recipes. Using a curry paste though is definitely a better choice. You're going to get better flavor from paste, and alot more if you make the paste fresh and from scratch.

      Coconut is more of a Chicken Korma vibe. Double/heavy cream is more typical. As is ghee (a clarified butter), instead of vegetable oil.
      Chicken Tikka Masala is a relatively new curry invented for the 1960s British palate by adapting a chicken tikka recipe with a tomato-based sauce. It probably didn't have fresh chilli and it definitely didn't have coconut milk. Just like every Indian family has their own unique garam masala made from a preferred blend of spices, it's up to you if you want to add these twists to your version of CTM. Some people add ground almonds, which again is more typical in other types of curry.

    The Chicken Tikka Masala may have been invented in Britain by migrant chefs from the subcontinent, but it finds its roots in Butter Chicken, created by Kundan Lal Jaggi and Kundan Lal Gujral, the founder duo of the legendary Moti Mahal Delux. And the butter chicken's curry most definitely doesn't use coconut milk. Also, all the tikkas I've ever had always use red (albeit not so spicy) chilli pastes in the marination from chillies like Kashmiri Chilli or Byadgi Chilli for a vibrant red colour

    • @sihollett
      @sihollett 2 года назад +2

      One of the more credible origin stories goes that someone ordered Chicken Tikka at a restaurant in Glasgow. The customer was surprised there was no sauce, and sent it back saying it was dry. The owner was eating some tomato soup and suggested using that and some spices to make a quick sauce. The chef added yoghurt as well. The dish was born.
      Certainly it's cow-based, rather than coconut-based, dairy.
