- After seeing how much fun I had on the test ride a few days ago (plus the insanely affordable $2,971 price point) I’m sure this isn’t a surprise to anyone, but… I BOUGHT A 2023 HONDA XR150L!!!
Today we took delivery of the brand new XR150, showed it to @KomotoVlogs for the first time, talked about all the mods I’ve already bought for it, and then crashed it 😂
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't bummed when I first dropped it, but fortunately nothing got messed up at all! Plus, what's the point of having a dual sport bike if you can't absolutely thrash it every time you ride it?
I already have over 60 miles on this thing from my first day of ownership and I can already tell I'm going to LOVE ripping this little XR150 around!

What's really cool here is that Honda has a real motorcycle that's reasonably affordable. This does look like it would be a great first bike for a teenager, and it would still be a great bike for anybody that has access to some off-road trails. I grew up on a farm and I used to ride my brother's 1967 Honda S-90 all over the place when I was about 15. It was so much fun.
Words of wisdom. What 16 year old can spend $5,500 on a CRF300L (including shipping and a new helmet) and then insurance when this will do just fine. I knew I'd kill myself on anything bigger than a 125 and hex head sheet metal bolts on a knobby tire meant not having to take the school bus in the winter.
Yes they are, and where the economy is going it’s a cheap way to commute too!

Falling over is part of off road. It happens. No worries. At least you didn't hit a tree which is what worried me in your trail ride.
I don’t want to jinx it, but I used to ride mountain bikes pretty religiously so I at least have a slight sense of tree avoidance 😂 I’ll definitely feel better once my hand guards and skid plate come in though!
Haha, after seeing that struggle after you dropped the bike - I think a new set of decent knobbies might be in order! Those stock tires look absolutely abysmal.
was thinking the same. my klx230s has 60/40 tires and they look 1000 times knobbier. these have to be like 90/10 tires haha
Honestly not even knobbies could’ve saved that. The GoPro does no justice to the angle of the hill or how sandy it was. BUT I most likely will get some knobbier tires if I decide I’ll be doing enough off-road stuff to make it worth it before the stock tires wear out 🤘🏻
Get some off road tyres before you smash up the bike. I will cost you a lot more to repair. Plus less chance of injury and getting stuck. We used to have that bike years ago in the UK but Honda doesn't sell it here anymore.

Stock tires are like 90/10 on a good day. They're designed for hard gravel and bad asphalt which is where this bike operated in Asia. XR150 is a commuter bike for people in the countryside.

Congrats on getting the xr150. It looks like an awesome entry-level dual sport. Affordable, approachable and fun. Looks great, too. This bike is very popular here in Brazil, although here it is fuel-injected and not called xr150. Honda calls it the Bros 150 here (and in recent years they bumped it up to 160cc and changed its name accordingly). Anyways, I'm stoked that you got one and will be watching your future content on it. I believe this bike may have the potential to get more people into dual sports. Congrats on the new bike and thanks for the impromptu ride through the woods. With more knobby tires you probably wouldn't have had the struggles you did, but it was great to see the effect a brand new bike had on you to take it for a little ride. Stay safe and enjoy it brother.

so the analog trip meter is how you keep track of youre fuel (old school fuel gauge). figure out how many miles you get per tank and reset at each fill up.
Ahh that makes sense! Honda claims something crazy like 340+ miles per tank, so it’ll be interesting to put that to the test.
@@LifeOfBurch also next time you are stuck like that and need to reposition the bike. Put the kickstand down,lean the bike onto it some and pivot the bike on it to put you're font end where you want it.
@@huffman1371 the GoPro does no justice to the angle the bike was at, but the bike would’ve been completely horizontal by the time the kickstand made contact 😅
Great purchase! I got a 2022 XR150L(LEK) model for my farm here in Chile and I feel kinda compelled to tell you that after a year of ownership and real on and off road abuse I haven't had a problem with the battery yet. Ofc this is anecdotal but will tell u anyways. A few times I've left the keys on w/ ignition primed (D'oh) for a couple of hours and had no problems starting whatsoever, since primed ignition vampiric drain on this bike is just a few watts/hour (no pumps or warmers) and battery should be at least 4 amps.
4A times 12v = 48W
I've read some of the comments here and your answers, and I must tell you: it's not your battery (even if it might have been drained initially, but once its running the dinamo is strong enough to get a spark for it to run proper)
I hate to break you the bad news...
It's the carb mate, it's a daily struggle! Think of it this way: its an extremely small carb (21mm) with no integrated heater, so gas wont vaporize properly while cold and it will bog down and die on you, A LOT, until its warm (or hot) and it takes a while to get there 😢
Also the choke has three steps:
1 Choked, 2 temperature protection half choke and 3 Open. Choked is forwardmost and is for cold cold starts and you MUST keep it throttled at about +15% or it the engine will die out.
Proper start-up sequence for cold start is: At most a minute of warm up in the Choked position. Switch to the middle (2) position for about 5-10 minutes so the engine gets properly hot but ofc u should ride normally (albeit at limited rpm). Finally set it to 3 Open and your good to go at max speed and rpm (65mph/110kph in a good day 😅)
So what I understand happened to you while bump starting it was a fueling issue, not battery!
I hope this comment helps you enjoy your XR150L, it's definitely a great lightweight, detuned, street worthy dirt/farm bike. I daresay its an unicorn ultralight adv bike! And after a year I still love it for whats it for: trail riding, light to med offroad, city use and light highway use. For me it's perfect, and I hope it is for you too! Take care and ride safe
Tldr ur battery is/was fine, carb was cold and u stopped, thus engine borked
Ofc perhaps im wrong and 2023 US model might have an integrated carb heater or your batt may be defective. Just trying to help a fellow rider out. Cheers!

Hey Burch, congrats on the new bike, I'm glad to see you had some fun and excitement chucking it down some trails. Burch, I am pretty sure the reason you slid out there was because of the stock tires you have on that bike, those tires are very road focused and I recommend getting some knobbier tires, but at the end of the day, it's all up to you man, peace out.

In Argentina XR are bikes that u usually turn around to see. U can mod and they are forever bike. Dont forget that we have hiperinflation and our economy sucks. CRF are imposible to get. 😢
Really hope you can get the time to do all the mods to all your new bikes, and get the content you need to grow your base even more! Been watching off/on every spring/early summer every time when I'm considering a motorcycle... I think I can say "next year" and actually mean it this time.

I love seeing more small cc dual sports hitting the market. They are just so much fun, and they are practical. Hardcore riders say they are terrible bikes, but for us normal joe schmoe's they are perfect, reliable, and just plain fun. I bought a 450 enduro and loved it, but offroad i didnt use like 10% of the power, so i sold it and bought a klx230 and i love that bike to death. suspension is a tad soft but that bike will go anywhere, and its a ton of fun. and i dont feel like im wasting it when im out just trying to explore in first and second gear.
Mine is a 2015 XR150L. Did some mods to it as well. Runs great still.

You have to get used to standing up while you ride off-road! Pushing your weight more on the front tire will help you better off road! Ride safe dude! Love your content

Congrats brother! The trip meter can be used for a guesstimate on how much fuel is left in your tank.. Reset it at every gas stop. Enjoy!
Sick bike man! Totally wanna see if you can do an extended highway ride on it! I've seen people doing it on the Honda PCX and Honda ADV so I'm pretty sure this will do just fine with it!

As for analog gauges - yeah, I've had several bikes with analog trip odometers, they all work like that.

Awesome video and congrats. I was wondering why you need to charge the battery and I noticed your bike doesn't have a kick start. That's weird considering that in other regions it does come with a kick start.

If you don’t have a fuel gauge that trip meter is great for keeping track of how many miles you went on the tank, just have to reset it after each fill up 😉
Glad your ok, there's always those small things like twigs cutting into your ankles or something so gear is a definite.
as for the bike, we definitely want hand guards, and also a skid plate as a minimum . The skid plate is good not just for protection, but when it comes to trees down, as long as you can get your front wheel up and over, you can use the skid plate to Teeter over a log while racing your feet on the top of it as you go over and onto your rear wheel. There are lots of good videos to show you the technique.
The one thing I liked when I purchased my TW 200 was that it had the lead to attach to a trickle charger on it when I purchased it, along with the fact that even if the battery was dead, you can just pop the clutch in second gear (1st is such a low gear that if you're running and pop the clutch in first, you can barely keep running), but in second gear, or you can just pop the clutch, and it will start up on its own power...
Of all the bikes I have owned, my little dual sport has been my favorite from everything from Hayabusa's to other sports, bikes, heavy bikes, and even scooters, such as 650 Bergmans.
My 1st trail ride was a cluster, like 100 degrees and dripping sweat...

I have cerebral palsy, so my dream motorcycle is a Can Am Ryker because I need a trike for balance reasons, but I found your channel and your love for these bikes is so fun to watch that I subscribed. Keep up the great content.

Imagine the fun I have when I get into a precarious mountainside position on my 600 lol. Love the new bike! If I weren't 6'2" I'd love to have one.
I saw one at my dealer and I was surprised hiw roomy the seating position felt give the small size of the bike and I'm 6'1". I could cruise this little dude in relative comfort, so it has me reconsidering maybe picking one up eventually.
I did have to chuckle at the initial confusion over the trip meter. I'm middle aged, so I take for granted those little things that used to be so common.

Hi bro! Im from Argentina. Xr150 are like CRF for you (XR are toooooo expensive and CRF u just can calculate..). Im 6'1 too, and the XR fits perfectlly. We are the limit cause 6'2 struggles a lot. I buyed mine like 2 months ago and i just change Front led and tires, cause stock ones can betray u. Its an honda. A forever bike. Algo u can boost to a 190cc kit and dont forget an exhaust too ❤

more rear brake and dont be afraid to power trough. yes it will dig a little till it has more traction [little more agressive tires does change a lot but not all.] but i think its a nice play thing. have loads of fun with it mate.

I bought an XR650L brand new in 09. Went to my sisters house right afterwards, and when I came back out, it was on its side taking a dirt nap. The kickstand had sank in the grass. Since then, it has taken plenty more. The big red pig likes to roll in the mud. Definitely get rid of the stock tires if your going to do much offroad riding. It will make for less dirt naps.

I've been watching coverage of this bike. Must be the right bike at the right time. I had a Suzuki DR200 and it was a hoot for bouncing around in town and a little tractor on trails. Was disappointed that bike never got more coverage or aftermarket support. From what I've seen, it had slightly better specs and build quality than the XR150L. Will be interesting to see how popular the Honda becomes.
The engine guard is plastic , and made by Cycra. Made in USA. I was surprised. I ordered everything but the USB, and saddle bags. The guard was in stock at my dealership.
Hopefully Yoshi gets a pipe out for this. Also, hopefully you get some tires on that bike. Thanks for the video. I'm grabbing one as soon as my dealer gets some stock.

Wow, that gas cap looks like the one that was on my Honda VF500f inteceptor back in the 1980s. I am amazed at the parts bin engineering still uses those.

Basically , you need to ride it like a dirt bike off road. Experiment with other tires… you don’t necessarily have to go full knobbies like on a dirt bike… there are definitely a variety of dual sport tires that range from very street friendly to not aggressive. If you want to become a much better motorcycle rider, and this translates especially well to steer bikes as well…. Go find a flat track and practice sliding, breaking, and throttle on loose ground. It will make you way more skilled both in and off road no matter what bike your riding. Have fun!
Big knobbies won't make you more of a man. I used to live in a town with a steel grate bridge. It was both feet down at 15mph for me. I've seen older XR650L's where the owner knew he'd never see even a gravel road so street tires were the answer.

honestly, the details & info is cool, but the talking never stopped lol. I really wanted to hear how the bike was sounding going thru those tight areas. I wouldve definately been outta breath if that were me riding & talking isnt easy.

Great video, question, it you plan to do $500 of mods, do you know what impact on the warranty is? I've done some bolt ons to my 150L and I'm wondering what I can and can't do? I want to add electric accessories. I see you have the issue of reluctant starts with the stock carb. I swapped in a PZ27 and haven't touched the choke. It fires right up and settles into a nice idle immediately..
Well, I feel better about dropping my scooter a few days ago. Hit a loose patch of gravel, and the back tire gave out. Got a good scratched up and bruised arm out of it, but it was worth the lesson in making sure I always wear protective gear. That thing looks so awesome, I'm going to have to get one at some point.

They are really good little bikes. Took my 2019 on many crazy adventures. The components scream cheap. But cheap makes the bike kinda special in its own way. I don't mind sending it and letting everyone learn how to ride on it. It has a few flaws. You do kinda have to wait long to let it warm up properly before you ride. Honda's are also generally known to be cold-blooded. Just leave it in the warm sun for 30min before you start it up. 😁 Enjoy your new moto 🤓
