HiveLifter for Pulling Honey Supers

- Folks, I went out to pull some supers by myself, so I thought, this would be a great opportunity to show you my hive lifter in case you haven't seen me use it yet. It takes a bit longer this way, especially since this is its first use since the winter moves, but it saves me from walking back and forth with 30 to 50 pound supers. Come on along and let's harvest some honey.

Thanks for joining me in my bee yard here in Louisiana as I share how I maintain my beehives. My videos are not meant to be 'How To' videos, but simply me sharing my experiences in beekeeping as I learned it from my mentors, teachers, and studies.

I want one of them to help me but I like & love the workout with my girls/honeybees. Awesome job and video
That lift is pretty darn cool. Good stuff Mike. I’m glad your honey harvest came through better than expected.
Even that looks hard on your back
Not like lifting boxes. It rolls very easily, and it’s balanced so well, there’s no force needed to keep it ticked back. I was going very slow, so it looks harder to push than it is. With my homemade handles, I was being sure the boxes didn’t bounce in the forks.
Mike spend a few bucks on new honey supers.
If they were just a few bucks I would. 😁
@@MikeBarryBees I know what you mean , bee equipment is getting so expensive. I’m thinking of starting my own RUclips channel.☺️
@@markbee5787 it’s truly crazy how much it has went up in the last 5 years. I do actually have a dozen or so new boxes in the loft that I will put together this winter. Best wishes on the videos. It takes time to get traction, so keep publishing.
The older I get lol 😅
Haha haven’t ever been mentioned in a RUclips video before glad I could help
Dennis said to tell you he said” guess I’ll still have to like him even though he’s driving a dodge”😂🤦♀️💞💕
Aw now….if you knew how and what and really why my ford went down, you might be a little more apprehensive about looking at those😁😁. I’d still let Dennis ride in it though.
Mike how did you decide which of the four models to buy?
I knew I wanted to is type rather than the dolly type, but I went by lift height and capacity versus cost. Looking back, I’d get the next one up for a couple hundred more.
I've seen a few of those in some videos but, I've never seen anyone go into detail about them before, it was much appreciated! I have an approach that is when you stop learning you start dying and, I do everything alone, always have. Have friends but asking of them is a last course of action, I don't want to be a burden of any kind to anyone. If I was using that hive style, I would have to get me one of those. I plan on staying small though, I just like the bees. Thank you so much for the video!
You’re welcome and thanks for your support and kind comments Tommy!
I can hear some of the old school beekeepers saying... If I would've had one of those puppies back in the day, my back wouldn't be in the shape it's in now! Definitely a great tool to have in this business.
Thanks for sharing and God bless.
Thx again for the video Mike, and specifically for highlighting the lifter, as we are looking to get one in the coming year as we grow our operation. God bless.
Mike, the frames that you pulled out looked great! I’m glad they made honey for you.
I have watched you use your hive mover many times. In this heat I’m glad your using it :). Nice video, have a great weekend!
I still haven't finished editing my video using my lifter. Great video.
Highly favored and blessed
Definitely going to have check into one of those lifts. So happy for you that your getting more honey.
The lifter looks good 😊
I use a hand trunk on my big heavy Lazuting hives. But don't planning on moving them ever. Got 92 lbs of 10 frames out of 5 hives already. The basswood bloom helped a lot. I reversed honey frames and took 2 full frames of honey from each hive. Think one hive turned to ice palace. So moved that hive to 6 foot into cheery. And reattached unwelcome boards for bear.
I just bought the same blower this week, works great. Those supers look great buddy, glad you got some honey.
Where did you get the small blower you are using. Enjoyed the video
Jim, that little blower was my father-in-law’s and I want to say it’s available at Lowe’s or Home Depot
Anything to save your back is worth it. Thanks Mike!
Interesting watching you use the blower to blow the bees down in the hive. Doesn't that piss them off? I can only imagine that it would with my bees.
I got the 2023 hinges as an upgrade for my UltraMax on Thursday.
Honestly, they seem pretty irritated regardless of what I do. 😂😂 it doesn’t seem to make them more irritated than normal.
I run all deeps. Do you think this would be more beneficial for me?
It works for deeps, just would go more than two at a time and I would get the next bigger size lift. It lifts a bit higher and a bit more weight.
The good lord helps those who help themselves and that fits you to a tee!
Thanks!
I am so taking the blower next time I harvest frames of honey.
Fortunately mine are at my property, so the tractor with pallet forks and a pallet, pull up and lide the supers over to the pallet at the perfect level.
Seen one bloke here keeps them on a box trailer mini locks bees up at night trailer is a flat top holds a block of 6 hives drives into shed cracks supers slip off onto holding table. So if area is slow just makes decisions at table or leaves at home block until a area is found each trailer has a work kit tools ect to center back frame is stainless no maintenance and has ally cover to shade hives brilliant set up table in shed both sides has clip in rail system crack super slide super to table no lifting if in emergency bees can be moved all in one hit in seconds all hives have a number the same on box so if there are 4 boxes it has 44 44 44 44 if ya get the drift. All tables in shed have a rail system as well very well though out ya never lift a box only slide to position .
I have been seeing nectar moving here in late July, in a couple of yards. Normally , July hits and the flow is over. This year is just strange.
That contraption gives this video a European feel. Haha
Now that is just plain ol' cheating. Do you know how high that lifter will reach? Never mind, found it. Looks to be a 48" lift. And that blower... I have a harvest coming up in 3 weeks. Just looked up one that fits my battery system. On order. Thanks Mike! -Jeff and Diane
