"Microsoft starts testing new Xbox Home UI that will arrive in 2023. Microsoft is starting to test new changes to the Xbox Home UI that will eventually arrive for everyone in 2023. The changes will include tweaks to the layout and design to make it easier to find Xbox games and apps or navigate to areas like the settings interface. Microsoft will conduct a variety of Xbox Home experiments over the coming months before launching its new Xbox Home UI in 2023.
“We know the Xbox homepage is where our gamers spend the most time, and it’s a space that’s very personal,” says Ivy Krislov, senior product manager lead of Xbox experiences. “We also know we can always be listening and learning how we can do better here while keeping your experience fast and familiar. With that, we’re kicking off a multi-month series of experiments to learn how to create a more personalized home screen experience and address some of the top trends and fan requests.”
A random subset of Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring will get access to some of the Xbox Home experiments this week. The first round of preview updates includes a new “jump back in” row at the top of Xbox Home that includes the usual recently played games and apps. You’ll notice (in the screenshot above) that there’s no longer a bigger tile for the most recently used app or game, and the interface is a lot more like Microsoft’s Xbox TV app.
That Xbox TV app also has a search function up top and quick access to settings - Microsoft is bringing both to its main Xbox Home console UI. There’s even a pinned tile for access to the Microsoft Store alongside the usual “My games & apps” tile. Unfortunately, the ad tile still exists and is pinned to the Xbox Home screen.
Xbox users have been calling on Microsoft to redesign its Xbox Home interface for months, with suggestions to focus on showing more of the dynamic wallpapers, remove the ads, and offer up more customizability for the Xbox Home screen. This redesign doesn’t address all of that quite yet, but there are months left for more tweaks that could make it a lot more customizable.
I’d personally like to be able to fully customize the Xbox Home UI, pin apps and games freely up top, and remove the static tiles Microsoft forces everyone to have. I can fully customize my iPhone homescreen and move apps, games, and widgets wherever I want, so why not allow something similar on Xbox?"

I'll keep saying it get rid of the tiles and let us customize our home screens how we want to. I don't want ads and I want to see the background. If I can't move every single tile around or delete it I'm not satisfied
Moveable tiles is a great idea kind of like if how you can arrange things on your phone or pc

Options is the answer. Make different layouts where we can choose from and apply to the dashboard like a theme. LIKE THAT I CAN GET MY BLADES BACK!
They should give us the option to customize the default tiles with transparency, size, shape, and placement. such as settings, store, entertainment etc. should honestly be able to this with all tiles

The ad row is not going away - Microsoft make most of their money through software sales, and the row is of smaller height that the others so it’s not that big an issue. I like the ideas of seeing more of the background and having group icons be more personal (even if they just showed the art of apps within that group that would be great!).
I feel like if you pay for Ultimate it should go away. I don’t *hate* the ad row as it has led me to some pretty good deals, but I don’t like the fact that I can’t get rid of it.

It may not go away but like he said in the video "I'm already a Game Pass Ultimate customer!" You've already got me, now just let me decide when I want to come in there and browse. Open up that main screen for more background real estate and I like what he said about having that first row be JUST GAMES. Then the second row more dedicated to accessing all your games and apps quickly. Then throw in a cycling ad on the end that people can see but won't be obtrusive.

I kinda feel like the UI for PS4 was the best. It was simple and didn't obscure whatever background you had selected. Everything was concise.

Completely agree with the tiles on the dashboard… I hate that “Settings” or “Accessories” become the large tile when ever it’s open
yeah but not having apps show up there just makes things less efficient and streamlined. I use youtube and netflix a LOT, I enjoy that little extra saved time by having them show up on those tiles. my xbox isn't just a gaming console, it's a media centre too

@@Un-known-117 they don't appear on your immediate dash, gotta scroll down to them and quite frankly there's already enough shite down there. again, so much more convenient to just press right a couple times at most. the dashboard should about functionality, not displaying cool cover art. go buy physical copies if you're into that.
would be awesome if we could choose necessarily modernized UI like from OG Xbox, to the 360 blades and beyond, etc
I think an idle mode would be cool where it just shows the dynamic background like when you turn of your controller after 10 minutes
I think they should update the pre installed icons like settings and store to match windows 11 make them more modern

Maybe they can give us the option when they do give us a new UI to be able to switch between different dashboard so if you like one style over another

I like the idea alot, I hope something like that is plausible.
Another thing they should add was on the original Xbox One. Remember when you would go to your friends and besides them you being able to see all their game clips and screenshots. They should bring that back. Gaming is about Gaming and for others that includes friends. I would love if they bring that feature back. I love your point on the main screen. It should be more about the games we play. Rather than the recent 6 apps. They should also improve the friend tab too, especially being that we bought the hardware and many of us are already subscribed to their hardware too.

bruh I didn't even know you could search by genre on game pass. I've never scrolled past the first few rows cause I always just view all games at once. That seriously needs to be way higher. Recommended groups should come after genres and quests
The problem with the last 6 games is that some people may want simple access to apps like Netflix/Hulu or whatever other apps. I actually do use them every once in a while.
How about that make multiple dashboards and you can choose your favorite. Similar to themes.

Now you can play what didn't run good on Xbox One, smoothly on Series X. There's a lot of games that got bad reviews for being glitchy that run perfect on Series X.
I've seen a lot of nice looking fan dashboards and hopefully we can see some improvements in near future. I created a media group with all my media apps which I constantly go to, so I hope they don't remove that though. I use my xbox equally between those and games. So while I'm fine with changes being more to prioritize games, I hope they don't make it a chore to access my other apps.
Wish the launcher was like Kodi so we could skin it our self or have it like Aeon Nox, show nice fan art and long press for game info.
I actually think the add space is acceptable. Its often how i find out games came out. The % to achievement is a total waste tho and definitely agree on settings and such not going in the top row. Maybe be able to choose which apps can appear there would be amazing

I totally agree with what this dude is saying, everything that’s currently on this dashboard is completely unessesary, I perfer the older dashboard where it was released in 2013.

I just have the main tab, a Quick Resume section, and my pins. That's it.
I'm okay with the current setup but I'm always up for improvements.

He's on the current dashboard talking about it needs to be edited in ways when really they need to start from scratch. A complete remastered/ new vision

The perfect dashboard I want would give you a lot of freedom in what you want ‘your’ dashboard to look like.
I like the that it shows the last 6 items you’ve accessed. As I take advantage of that. I do want smaller tiles so I can see more of my background. I want to see my background lol don’t cover that up!
I like having an easy way of accessing settings as I always want the option to turn my console completely off. I don’t like the always on or standby options. But it’s good for those who want them.
I also like having separate sections for game pass, games and apps.
I play games on my Xbox and I take advantage of Apps, Netflix, Disney, RUclips, HBO, Amazon etc. So having easy access to this is always welcome.
As for gamepass quests, I don’t typically do those, but if they were easier to find within the gamepass section I’d be more inclined.
Maybe give gamers the ability to make the tiles bigger or smaller? I love the backgrounds so please what ever you do don’t cover those up… I like the clean look.

They need to just allow us to fully customize the dashboard just throw a bunch of options in the settings and allow us to decide what we want and where we want it and that way they can't complain and all they have to do is add new options over time and I keep allowing us to design our own to make it personal

Couldn't they have different layouts to choose from and let US, the OWNERS of the machine, decide what to put in each tile? I don't want my background more visible, and I don't want just games on my dashboard. I use my Xbox for streaming, gaming, and listening to music. Let us customize our own dashboard. I do agree on losing the settings and gamepass tiles though.
I think the game pass advert tile should only show up on the dashboard if you haven't registered it when you do you should not see the advertisement again?
The side tab with apps on it is very useful, it allows me to pause and skip songs on spotify
I think 1 thing they could do with recently used games/apps they could do the Apple thing and have 1 block show 4 of your most recently used games/apps and a little … in the bottom right hand corner to see all in the order you recently used them in or to go directly to your library, or do 2 blocks in the same manner but 1 for games and 1 for apps so you see 4 recently used games and 4 recently used apps. Each … can take you directly to either games library or apps library.
I like exactly how the tiles are now. Maybe they can clean it up a little bit. I'd be pissed if they made all my recent apps just games. Cool doesn't mean useful. I want useful over "it looks cool." Even my most recent app being big and prominent. I open that app all the time so I like it being front and center. Other things like the entertainment tab I agree with though. It's basically useless right now.

I couldn't agree more with the ads, i already hooked with Game Pass Ultimate! What more do you want from me?! Give me a clean home with all my games and apps and then, when i'm on the store or game pass, bombarded me with ads all you want.
I would like to have the option to lay out the UI how I want it, to a certain extent. I know they're not going to allow me full control of that. I'd like to see more of my background. What's the use of having a kick ass background and it's covered up by all the Xbox tabs? I agree about the "the last 6 games" lay out and all small tiles. Should only be one row, for the last 6 games. That's it. Or even last 4 games and the other two tiles for ads. Then below that row, they can have it laid out kind of like the blade style, but in a downward motion, for differnet items. Below the row of last 6 games could be your game library. Below that, for Game Pass. Below that, other apps.
The ad tiles should be new games with Game Pass, new Xbox hardware and other software.

All I want is a dedicated off switch for Quickstart. I’m tired of a quick start putting certain games and a queue that I don’t want.
I have so many games on my Xbox that every single one of my “groups“ is used for a different category of game..
Mine goes something like this:
-action adventure games

-survival horror
-Racing/simulation
-Retro/Sidescrollers
-FPS/3PS Shooter-Slasher
-Hack n Slash
-Xbox360/XBOX Original
I love what Xbox did with the “groups“ feature I just wish it was more appealing to look at!!??
On the Xbox one once you have this many “groups“ there is no room left to have anything else like streaming apps and so all of my streaming apps or my “pinned-items” are where things like Netflix, YT, HULU, SPOTIFY Etc are located
I have an idea that could probably bring PC gaming to the Xbox X and S. What if there was a feature that allows the user to switch to a desktop esc UI, that’ll allow users to play PC games on their Xbox. After all, Xbox is rapidly growing, so why not take the console to the next level. For those who want to play PC games on their Xbox, I think this will be a great way for users to interact more with their console. Plus, Microsoft is helping make Xbox accessible for those with disabilities, so why not create a custom PC UI, that’ll also have some accessibility features, so players of any kind, will be able to play Xbox in any way they want.
If y’all agree that Xbox should have a desktop UI, drop a like, to show this idea some support. Oh, and one more thing… the way the player would enable this feature, is to go to settings, and look for a new tab labeled ( Xbox UI ), and enable the desktop mode. The console would then restart, and you’ll be greeted with a fully functional desktop UI, with all your Xbox features laid out in a nice PC UI. Not only that, but you can use your controller, or a keyboard to use the UI.
The “New” Dashboard is literally a same version that we had during Xbox one. 😕
We got to be realistic here the adds are not going to go away it just not feasible in this video game landscape. Even if someone recommended the cleanest and best looking ui it's still going to have adds someway or another
It's just a cluttered mess. Most of the stuff could be hidden, just one sleek looking homepage with everything else accessed from the guide/behind tabs. Don't force stuff down my throat, give me the option to go view it if I choose to. It's like years of Xbox One clutter has built up and the cupboard needs emptying & starting a fresh with organisation in mind, hide the stuff that doesn't need to be seen or accessed much and the things we need on a regular basis or that look pretty, up front. In my opinion it's dated, cluttered, unorganised and full of stuff that I don't want or need to see. For me, I want to fire up my xbox and it be snappy... Start a game... Look in Game Pass... Browse the Store... Admire my background art. Everything else is secondary & can be hidden until I want to view it. Everything has become too complicated over the years, I just want to have fun playing games not have this massive technological, migraine inducing 'experience'

It being the last 6 things you accessed is so much better though. If it was all games I'd have to go into the my games and apps section every time I turn on my Xbox to watch RUclips or Netflix. Yeah aesthetically it's not as pretty but I'd rather it be easier for me. Also I don't want gamepass games to only be advertised in the game pass tab because I rarely go on there. You shouldn't have to go looking for new additions
Keep the UWP apps from being the large tile in the recently used tile, becuase you can access most of them from the Xbox guide anyway
I hope they bring some sort of Horizontal feature back because I hate the way everything is vertical.
I agree we don't need constant reminders to visit game pass everywhere it is completely fluff we should be able to customize our own backgrounds. The main menu collapsed from the guide button should be reordered like a smartphone. games and anything related like achievements should be the first tab starting from left to right.
I think the top row should be th elast 6 games and then have the last 6 apps possibly underneath or further down or in 1 tile that you have to open up to expand.
I would really like the old spilt screen. I used to use it a lot. Now that we have a more powerful consoles. We should be able to bring it back. It was on the Xbox one.

Very cool so see these opinions aired, now the Xbox folks need to deliver. The blanket ‘no’ to tiles is worrying, it smacks of mother-knows-best, rather than a shared journey of discovery: team & community.
I hope the they play this in their meeting because personally I think if you purchase a console it should not have *ADS* on the home screen.

I prefer function over aesthetics for the 6 tiles, if I watch Netflix every day and it’s there, why make me go looking for the apps, and the bigger tile is just app that was last used and still open

You can download many cool background by getting the TMX app, but sadly that doesn't fix the problem of easily seeing our cool backgrounds

Advertising is the #1 way to drive people away from a platform.
I wish multiple captures were easier to select and delete. My captures gets full quickly and I would like to be able to Access them and delete them faster.

how about a 100% pure black for oled tvs, come on, i have to turn on high cntrast mode in order to get OLED blacks
I think the tiles are WAY to big. Like i have a BEAUTIFUL screenshot of Cyberpunk from the photo mode saved as my background. But the tiles are so big, i can't see much from that screenshot. They NEED to fix that.
