The animations are gorgeous, even that big fat tree lady animates so well.

It looks just like one of my hentai XXX anime.
The flower itself doesn't look ugly, and the huge thing it grew around itself is just to intimidate you, so it doesn't have to look "good" looks rather well-drawn, like how the smash animations in each direction seems to be drawn individually.

It's definitely hand-drawn, the designers said that, I think they drew animations by hand then scanned them in a computer to transition them into a game engine
It's like someone looked at Dragon's Lair and Space Ace and thought, "Huh. Wonder if I can make an actual GAME that looks like this?"

This is a weird quibble, but it really bothers me that none of these giant enemies even _tries_ to step on you. Like, come on Jotun. If a cockroach with an axe started hacking away at my ankles, my first instinct would not be to grab a sword. That foot is coming down, it's coming down *hard.* I'm gonna be dancing until that thing is dead.
actually, most of the bosses are barefoot (for some reason) so if they tried to step on you, you'd slice their soles open with said axe

caelan creagh you'd still be dead though. like, the boss would probably be hurt a little but at the end of the day they would be alive and you would be a smear on the ground.

Most of DS's bosses are not gigantic sized, and the ones that are usually have a great reason not to step on you, Sif for example just uses his sword, seaseless discharge has his feet down on the lava and the other giant bosses do in fact run you through if you're dumb enough.

Makes me wonder why half of giant bosses and enemies die from cutting their foot a lot in most games. Glad this game atleast makes -most- bosses fall down for few moments to be hit in head.
Second guy could've been killed without fighting, though.

Yeah, I we been wondering why they just didnt stomp him into the ground.
FINALLY someone mentions that; that's always annoyed me (giants dying when all attacks have been to non-vital areas).
This game is beautiful and a true testament to the majesty of Norse mythology. Everything had a weight to it, like the PC was actually fighting giants made of stone and earth that could crush mere mortal men. This game also does a great job of really bringing out Norse mythology's potential visually, especially the ginnungagap.
I like how there's fucking giant epic beings fight you, then there's just you swinging you're Axe down there.
These boss fights are pretty good. All the bosses have a good variety of attacks that are all well-telegraphed; they also have secondary phases in which the difficulty is increased. These are some of the core components to a good standard boss battle.
I liked Odin main attack, alludes the legend of Gungnir, the spear than never miss its target.

Yeah, but you must destroy the spear with melee attack, otherwise it keep following you forever and hit you.
WAIT!. Did you see? Odin throw 3 spears. 3 is the amount of sides of a triangle, Odin only have one eye and he is the father of all gods.

The two bosses that are the best:
Jera( That intro and death though )
Hagalaz( Jesus she is terrifying )
Mediocre:
Kaunan( Fast attacks but way too much time to attack )
Odin( A mishmash of other bosses, doesn't have much to show off )
Booooring:
Fe( Le slow smashy mc smash with occasional yell )
Isa( Only cool attack is the tornado )
Edit: Kaunan to the best just because of the second form

Thiss is a really pretty game! All the bosses look hand drawn.
They are hand-drawn, in fact the whole game is hand-drawn

you can tell they are just look at the plant specifically you see it in the linework it's a bit still rough :D

but the boss battles felt underwhelming
I still remember when i was a child i liked to watch Johny's boss-fight videos, especially the Castle Crashers one.
For me, the skeleton miniboss began, what I call, 90-per-1 syndrome. It affect the bosses so they take multiple 90-degree turns to face your character.
The gods are easily impressed.
That was a lot of fun. Just great! My one gripe is that the very end of the last scene seems to get cut off before it's finished. As the main character is entering the pillar of light to "claim [her] reward", it precipitously cuts off. I can't shake the feeling there was a bit more to her see...like what the "reward" domain looked like.
That thumbnail brought me here.

It's very fun. In between the bosses there are sections that require exploring, so if that sounds like your cup of tea, I highly recommend you buy it.

The fact that the bosses simply walking doesn't hurt you kind of takes away difficulty from these fights. But I guess it would just make the fights very tedious.

Jera attack pattern:
1. (Type 1) Slams the arena in 5 angles (Right , Diagonal Right , Center , Diagonal Left , Left) or vice versa (can happen multiple times in row,more common than type 2)
1. (Type 2) Summon tentacle roots which slaps us when close (appears later as first)
2. Grows a Poison Blossom that cover entire arena (50% if during Rematch in Odin fight)
3.Repeat

Fe attack Pattern:
1. Summon Minion Dwarves
2. Uses Battle cry
3. Throws her disc at you no matter if she murder her dwarves
4. Repeat to 1.
After 50% hp she summon black pillars which will dont nothing but if she destroys them or we the debris start to fall killing or hurting anything on impact
(Happens if she do Throwing Olympic disk attack)
also after lesser health she was and start Summoning large Dwarves she in low health summon More giant ones rather smaller ones so there can be if counting lesser dwarves than earlier due to fact the Giant ones are Stronger,Vital and still as fast as small ones and throw Blacksmith hammer

Isa Attack Pattern:
1. Hulk Ice smash
2. Uses Icy breath (that is ironically easy if close impossible if far)
3. Charge at us trying to impale
4. (If we are close when 3. Ends fall on us with entire body) (Similar to 1. But stronger,more AOE and makes him vulnerable)
5. Repeat
At 50% health he gets mad and blow up snow in arena revealing ice
Also during battle snowstorm starts appear first at 90% hp left
And the lower is hp the blizzard starts blocking view of screen stronger

Halagaz attack pattern:
Start attack: rapidly summon randomly placed lightning strikes
1. Creates a Electric light which she claps creating massive Beam
2. Summons lightning aimed at Thora in random arcs sometimes catching off guard
3. Repeat
Hazards: Lightning catchers when charged summons circular burst of electricity
When all are hit Halagaz become stunned and counterattacking with her own Lightning burst which summons more and can go across whole arena instead of dissapearing after long time
Her attacks become faster as she gets angrier but when she reaches midpoint her rage causes her to split in two resuming rage counter back to 0%
When she is duplicated into 2 her rage is emptied and filled 50% slower than on previous
As Duo she uses same attacks but when used Electric strike at her previously it stuns both so she is both more powerful as well as vulnerable when stunned

Kaunan attack pattern:
1. Hastily swings the sword blade to ground which is long but not widht (always starts with this attack)
2. Jumps off screen later landing back (marked by shadow) causing meteors to fall cfeating Fiery Hazards
3. He go far from Thora landing sword to ground swinging to create eruptions
4. Repeat
After 50% life lost his sword becomes molten again powering him back (water cooled his sword so weakening his abilities)
1. Swings his sword like before but creating AOE eruptions on sides of sword
2.(Type 1) Leaps into air like before but landing causes hexagonal pattern eruption
3. His Impale to ground attack and circling creates larger longer and more hot trails of magma
4. Repeat
2. (Type 2 ) At critical rate of health he use attack creating again eruption summoning meteors (Slowly then at final stab normal rate)
Hazards: Trails left after sword are hurtful now

Oh for fuck's sake don't have Odin as a boss. Especially when you bother to get the spear but forget that fucking thing never misses. When Odin thrusts or throws that thing, it is going to hit, thats it's whole thing.
Odin clearly never uses the actual spear, considering it's always in his hand.
Also they were homing in on her, so it's still a pretty accurate representation.

they did have a 100% representation of his Spear, she dodged the spear and it came back around, she had to hit it with her axe to stop it, or the spear keeps following her
the spear is basically a homing missile but smaller and non explosive

What happens when you die in this game do you restart from the beginning or from the last checkpoint
WELL DONE! Added the game to my list! I loved Viking and Norse Mythology BUT were was HEL the JOTUN of the Underworld, Daughter of Loki, and she was half giant/half undead (skeleton)? She should of been the first to beat IMHO. The artwork is amazing, reminds me of the 80's... Hobbit, Unico, Dragons Lair, and The Black Cauldron.

Some can use attacks of previous bosses. Other bosses turn into previous bosses. Well, the final boss of this game FREAKING SPAWNS PREVIOUS BOSSES.
That first boss seems like a Draugr like from actual Norse mythology because it can grow in size

I say 'actual Norse mythology' becuse the Draugr in Skyrim are different, can't grow in size or strength or weight at will
