I've been trying to figure out who the dancer is since I first heard this song in the mid 80's. I think you guys maybe on to something here. What I always came up with is that the dancer is a person that is truly good and asks for nothing in return and that nobody recognizes that this person sacrifices their time/energy to keep others afloat. Just the fact that that lyric still has us talking about it 40 years later shows the true mastery that is Ronnie James DIO (RIP) 🤘🤘

Ronnie in many interviews considered this song to be his best song writing works. In regards to Brad wondering what "No One Bleeds for the Dancer" means; RJD stated No One Bleeds for the Dancer was directed at up and coming artists, to encourage them to pursue their dreams and not be deterred by whatever powers that be. In that context , I think of the dancer as perhaps a metaphor for the arts, how nobody advocates for the arts nearly as strongly as say, politics and power. My initial reaction was the act of “bleeding” for something meant to sacrifice for it. “Love can be SEEN as the answer.” We’ve always heard “all you need is love” “love thy neighbor” but the world is still a mess. Nothing good in life is free (in spite of what our leaders may say). Every decision has a sacrifice attached. Good or bad (or heaven and hell)

That’s not true. It came from Coven. They came before Black Sabbath, wrote a song called Black Sabbath and had a bass player named Oz Osborne. They’re doing the devil horns on the cover of their first album “Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls”. A few years later, Black Sabbath comes out in England and music critics refer to them as England’s version of Coven.

“Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer”
Is a line that has been pondered since the song came out.
I’ve heard a lot of different interpretations of it.
I think the dancer is any artist and bleeding for is understanding the hard work and training they put into their craft.
I of course could be way off.

    • @unholydriver4987

I agree. "The Dancer" represents all artists, and "nobody bleeds for the dancer" is saying that artists are way down on the totem pole in society. The money makers and politicians are more important to those in charge.

Dio always preferred to leave his lyrics open to interpretation but he did drop hints throughout the years of where inspiration for different songs came from. Sometimes like with this line you wish he would explain his thinking in a little more detail.

@@evilfantasy69 Yeah, I wouldn't overthink it. I'm sure most of us have heard the expression, "the dance of life" or something similar, and I think it safe to say, keeping with that analogy, that we are all dancers.

    • @evilfantasy69
      @evilfantasy69 2 года назад

@@supertrexandroidx 'The Dance' by Garth Brooks is another example - "I could have missed the pain, but I'd had to miss the dance"
The song sounds like he is talking about his feelings during a literal dance but he is actually talking about the entire relationship from beginning to end.

I am personally of the mind that the dancer means all the beautiful and meaningful things in life which we should love (that is the answer) but that nobody bleeds for the dancer means that people are not willing to fight for those things, thus them saying that love is the answer is meaningless

"Nobody bleeds for the dancer" means that nobody feels compassion for the other, the metaphor is the dacer giving it all and just receiving mere applauses
So the litheral meaning is "you could see love as the answer, but nobody feels compassion"
And in the end of the song he is telling you "you have to bleed for the dancer" like you have to feel compassion, care about the other, bring a hand if you can.
Because we all are just dancers struggling in life
