I had your symptoms for years, it turns out I was diabetic but it went undetected. For some reason it never showed up in my blood tests, but after a (long) while it finally showed up. The good news is, it is treatable, the bad news is, after years of untreated diabetes it damaged my arteries. Don't be satisfied with just seeing one doctor, seek out different ones until you find out. Please don't leave it until it's too late like I did, I had blind trust in this one medical centre, and this centre had blind faith in their senior partner who misdiagnosed me as suffering from ME.
I started watching this, then watched that one, then came back to this one...and talking about stress is REALLY familiar. I was a freelancer, and knew I wasn't exactly neurotypical but wasn't sure if I was neurodiverse, and I had really bad phyical symptoms due to anxiety and stress. Weirdly not as someone who is likely on the autistic part of the spectrum the lack of order, but more what I now know as Persistent Demand Avoidance - I liked being able to control my work and not go back to places, then clients liked me and asked me back, but started to annoy me after a few times. I now know I was avoiding those demands....but I did have physical symptoms from stress and eventually had complete burnout. Hence why I am not a designer/animator any more. So beware.
@@nicerperson1 funnily enough just had the tests for all that, after Paul Messner's recent video in fact. And it turns out it's not diabetes, or high blood pressure...but I think high cholesterol. Not sure, because the doctor decided it was non-urgent and scheduled an appointment for nearly 2 weeks later...which was weirdly reassuring vs having DKA like a diabetic friend thought. But I can see the test results online. Oddly if it is high cholestorol, or indeed neurodiversity - not had THAt conversation with my doctor yet, likely will raise it when they bring up diet because some stuff I cannot eat due to texture - it's a bit of an issue cos other health conditions - and indeed my genetics - trying to control that with diet. The usual 'eat fibre, eat veg' does not work with me that well.
Really sorry to hear about your health and hope it’s improving soon. Thanks Mark. I’m used to negative feedback from clients, been getting it for years. But it does always throw you a bit when it’s unexpected and makes it difficult to concentrate on other things until you’ve resolved it. Takes a min or two to process and cant take it personally but there’s that moment when you first read it that it’s hard not to! Enjoyed the video, thanks for all the work on our behalf. That tent wasn't much bigger than a pizza oven, too small for me. Love the content, the humour and the photography. No negative feedback from here. Sorry to hear about the symptoms you are suffering from. They do sound remarkably like my Long Covid symptoms, with the same triggers. Hi Brother. I am actually suffering the same symptoms as you. I also think its stress... I cannot afford meeting the doctor though... (I'm on the PH and on the lower income level). The information you shared here helped me feel better knowing im not alone. Camp on!
Hi Jemar, well hopefully it helps to know that I’m feeling A LOT better now. I’ve tried improving my diet, a lot more veg, exercising more and taking some fish oil tablets. Dunno which thing is helping but something is!
The trouble is your passionate about your work and aim to please . If we could care less is would be easier. Take it easy old boy, one day at a time. Live for the present. Look to far ahead and it will mess with your mind
partly agree with that. But one big reason I get a lot of stress is because I don't look ahead and then ahead catches up and I haven't planned properly. Live for the today and you'll starve tomorrow.
Hey Pascal, so for me it really seems to be stress related. Exercising more and improving my diet seems to have improved things a lot. As well as trying to find a better balance with work
Just found your channel and I really enjoyed watching this video. Great content and that tent looked really cosy! You’re very brave to camp alone. Great work!
I’m a burnout recovery coach and my wife and I have a functional medicine practice. When someone comes to us with symptoms similar to yours we test body system function. Most of our clients work with us when their GP tests come back normal. You can’t have any health symptom without their being an underlying body system dysfunction. That’s our first level of inquiry. Second level of inquiry is to find out HOW your body systems got all wonky in the first place. So 1) test 2) tray body systems 3) find and fix root cause :) Hope you’re feeling better.
Hoping you recover! Been watching your fun and funny camping videos here in the Philippines. And they are just brilliantly made. Wish you all the success. Planning to see more of your handy work. God bless and mabuhay!
Bro, really likred the video. Keep on rocking, But quick tip, don't check business email on vacation, since no one pays you for thits. I did it myself and just learned it is so wrong in many ways.A big hug from this locaion i'm from :P love
What a cracker, no negative feedback here. It takes courage to camp out alone, but sharing health issues is next level, hope you work out what the trigger is. (PS: My Paramo is 15 years old and still waterproofish, it performs much better than anything else).
Stephen I love your Videos. Sad to hear that your joy brings you such pain...I hope you get to the bottom of your health issues. Why create more pain for yourself using a bivy tent ? Remember that your comfort on the hill is directly proportional to what you are prepared to carry. Mind yourself.
Thanks Shay, it’s actually comfortable once you get into it. Only really a problem when the weather is bad and this was colder and wetter than forecast
Hi Stephen. Just a thought, have you looked at your water filter? Do you change it or steralise it much in case there is some bacterial transfer? Might cause sickness for a few days after a camp. Probably not but maybe worth a look. Cheers for posting, might look into a camp there myself soon 😊
Do what you think the best Is! My suggestion Is here only to plant a seed in your mind, Who knows maybe One day you Will try fasting with fruits only and you Will see a massive improvements in your health. Mostly its because fasting resets some parts of the body(like immune system, etc) and It helps the body to fight these "diseases"
Really sorry to hear about your health. Hopefully it isn't too bad and the doctors will be able to diagnose it soon. Just as well you haven't taken a stroke.
Watching your videos always makes me realise how much more I have to learn and improve with my own outdoors videos. Really enjoyable watch and very impressive edit - this channel deserves to be bigger.
Thanks Jake! 🙂 I don’t always put the same effort in with every single video as it’s really time consuming to make videos like this. But hopefully at least one a month to this standard. Working on a good one atm for this weekend. It’s camping related but a bit of a twist.
@@JakeMay 4 years ago it would have taken me about 4x as long but I've made 500+ videos since then so my editing has sped up a lot, but still never feels fast enough. I've been editing videos for about 10+ years and always something to learn
Sorry to hear about your health issues , as someone who is also self employed I can relate to your comments re stress etc , I havnt been right since Christmas and slightly worse lately , work has been difficult of late and because of the this and the weather I havnt been out running or cycling but I’m wondering if it’s because I havnt exercised much I’ve got a bit down and things have got on top of me , hoping to put that right , another great video Steve , thank you
Well I’ve noticed since I started getting a lot more active now that the weather has improved and days are longer than I’m feeling a lot more energetic already. Definitely has an impact
I've watched quite a lot of wild camping videos, but dude, you're really funny! And entertainingly clumsy, or normal, or whatever you want to call it. I loved the video! And I also have a tent almost just like yours, except it probably has more condensation problems than yours. And you're right, there is something about them, even if they must be annoyingly impractical when the weather is not great, like waking up to rain. :) Anyway, great video.
Great Video and to be honest I thought you were putting out a lot of videos. I think a lot of us have been feeling symptoms like you've suggested. Certainly the start of this year for me has been a pain in the hooped bivy! I'm gonna put it down to covid relayed lack of exposure to proper germs... We'll see! Anyway I hope you're health goes back in the right direction soon!
Thanks! Yeah I think maybe it could be covid related, it’s messed a lot of us up more than we realise I think. I’ve more camps planned soonish so I’ll see how they go. Might bring a biggger tent though.
Thanks Paul. Still working out my thoughts on the boots, so haven’t talked about them yet. So far though I really like hiking in them. Although my feet do currently get tired sooner in them.
Hey Stephen, I was actually planning the exact same trip in the next week or two so great to see your take on it! Hares Castle is a crackin wee spot, amazing views of the Annalong valley. Hope the sickness didn't last too long, your health is your wealth I believe they say! I'm potentially on the lookout for a satellite device, I've seen the Zoleo on a lot of US videos so really interested on how you find it compares to the Garmin. Those Firepot meals are really tasty, just tried a couple of them the other week in Wicklow and they really hit the spot, definitely one of the better ones. Great video as always Stephen, thanks again for sharing, ATB.
Great minds think alike! The Zoleo has just launched in the UK but has been on the go elsewhere for a lot longer. So far I’m mostly preferring it to the Garmin. App is much better designed and being able to have people contact you is a great feature.
Just found your channel, but extreme fatigue after cold exposure is common in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Given your time outdoors insect born viruses might be worth looking into. Hope you feel better soon. Health is everything. Love the video btw 😊
Great channel thanks 👍 Just wanted to say past two years I'm exactly the same as yourself sore throat etc generally tired on off constantly doctor tried tell me stress or eat better 🤔.. ok doc , I'm 44 year old male normally fit and healthy, suspect it's since I had COVID in early spring two years ago, anyhoow don't give up, searching for the cause and get well soon 👍👍
Long Covid was also on the list of possibilities for me. One thing at a time though. If you watch my next video, the doctor likes there’s a likely explanation. My history of this pre-dates the pandemic. It’s definitely been worse the last 2years but I’ve also had a lot more stress with my work in the last year.
I do commercial video production working directly with clients. Mostly promos for web but occasional TV ads. I play a lot of roles, writing scripts, shooting, editing VFX etc and managing the clients.
Stephen thanks for the answer. I’m watching all your videos. Your channel is amazing, I wish you a recovery and I upload more videos running, camping, hiking.. whatever you make I will watch it. Your talent is amazing. I’m spreading to my friends your channel. Sometimes I notice in your videos how you life and feel your work and the stress. I feel identifícate with some comments and adventures. Well this was too long, sorry, just to say that I love your channel and adventures. Thanks for sharing.
With a shelter this size (and with my micro tent) I still have an open question - how do you get out of full waterproofs and into the tiny shelter without soaking the rest of your gear. Also how do you achieve the reverse? I've been away in my micro tent (Google westonfront Nordisk Lofoten) for three two day trips now and whilst I've had heavy rain overnight on two occasions it has never been raining at the time I've wanted to enter or exit the "tent". The idea I have for getting in, but have yet to test, is to keep my dry gear packed away, get in, wriggle out of my waterproofs (with a free Yoga class thrown in) and then dry down the inner of the tent with a microfibre towel before getting out my sleeping bag and dry gear. Thoughts?
Loving your videos. maybe im a crazy but anytime i get bad feedback or its negative to the extent where the person is trying to be mean/rude, i completely ignore it and act like it never happened. I cant say its the same all the time, but learning to make yourself happy is the most important thing.
Yeah I’ve started just not responding and deleting really negative comments. I’d just leave and ignore most of them but then they would appear in google studio and I would still see them

Great content dude, just started watching and the quality and content is great. On the illness side of things I have been getting sick alot to all since covid, so although doctor says might be ADHD related or stress don't discount the fact since covid alot of our immune systems have been affected, but your a healthy guy and I think if you stay positive and keep the body in good shape I'm sure you will improve Iver time. Chin up and great work.
You need a break…take Louise on a holiday and book a massage….whatever you are stressing about, ask yourself “will I worry about this in 5 years time?”…if the answer is no, then it’s not worth worrying about now 😊. Your videos are great Stephen but you need to take time out for yourself…hope you are feeling better soon.
I like paramo stuff but wish they would do like Lundhags does on some of their similar jackets and keep the top half the jacket (shoulders, hood, etc) in waterproof goretex material and then the rest of the jacket is a polycotton breathable blend that can be treated with nikwax. I have this exact Lundhags jacket and its amazing.
@@StephenJReid I assume you mean PFC? Most manufacturers in Sweden don't use PFC's anymore. This includes Lundhags. You will commonly see the markings of "PFC-free", which includes PFA

Hey Stephen. I`m currently struggeling with a very similar health situation. I really hope that you find a way to get better! Great Video by the way.
Hey Pascal, so for me it really seems to be stress related. Exercising more and improving my diet seems to have improved things a lot. As well as trying to find a better balance with work
@@StephenJReid That makes sense for me as well. I hope/ I think we will find that balance again!
The Algorithm sent me this video and I really enjoyed it, looking forward to watching more. Hope you're feeling ok.
Thank you Elisabeth 🙂
Just found your channel and I really enjoyed watching this video. Great content and that tent looked really cosy! You’re very brave to camp alone. Great work!
Thanks! 🙂 Camping solo is kinda scary the first time or two but you get used to it.
Good film as always dude! Keep up the good work! I’ve got one of those tiny bivvy tents great for cycling touring and longer days on the hills!
Thanks JuJu! Think I’ll wait until warmer weather before using it again though!
@@StephenJReid yes does help! I used mine all year round! Hard to use in wild winters and snow as you’ll need a cover of some sort 100%
Buy a mini tarp for that tent, imagine that trip and it starts raining, cheers for sharing
Once you start adding a tarp, it just makes sense to bring a bigger tent
I’m a burnout recovery coach and my wife and I have a functional medicine practice. When someone comes to us with symptoms similar to yours we test body system function. Most of our clients work with us when their GP tests come back normal. You can’t have any health symptom without their being an underlying body system dysfunction. That’s our first level of inquiry. Second level of inquiry is to find out HOW your body systems got all wonky in the first place. So 1) test 2) tray body systems 3) find and fix root cause :)
Hope you’re feeling better.
Thanks Chris. Currently working on the theory it’s stress related and having success so far 🙂
@@StephenJReidhow you feeling these days?
Really great video mate, some excellent photography. Hope you sort yourself out.
Thanks Gary 🙂
I paused this at the second 7. I did so for I noticed the make of your tent: RAB. I will expect the tent to perform amazingly......we shall see!!!!
It’s a solid tent, would easily take on much worse conditions but as I said, then how do you cook? Cold food only
Thanks for replying . And I have to confess that....I am fixated by your jacket!
Haha, love my new jacket.
Hoping you recover!
Been watching your fun and funny camping videos here in the Philippines. And they are just brilliantly made. Wish you all the success.
Planning to see more of your handy work.
God bless and mabuhay!
Thank you! 🙂
Amazing to know someone on the other side of the world is enjoying a video I’ve made!
God bless, slainte 🙂
Brilliant vid as always mate, your editing is class too - I’m the equivalent to a one finger typer when it comes to editing 😂
Thanks Daz 🙂
Bro, really likred the video. Keep on rocking, But quick tip, don't check business email on vacation, since no one pays you for thits. I did it myself and just learned it is so wrong in many ways.A big hug from this locaion i'm from :P love
You’re right! Problem for me though is I’m self employed so I kinda do get paid for doing emails on holiday. Have to force myself not to though
Hmmm I think I only had hot drinks from the river water so it was filtered and boiled. But not a bad shout to maybe sterilise my filter.
I love this video and the camera placement is impeccable , I'm sorry to hear about your health and I hope you figure out what's wrong.
Thank you! Took my time on the day, just me so I could spent ages finding shots I liked 🙂
amazing video !!
I would recommend you to make a fasting month where you eat only fruits and water this will make you like new
I’ve made major improvements to my diet but don’t think I’d go as far as a fruit only fast.
Always happy to have not had a stroke 😂
try an inflatable tent roll, like inflatable beach mattress packed size
Just discovered that I can do this!
Thank you! 🙂 I’m not sure how you managed that but it’s very appreciated 😂
@StephenJReid You're welcome! Might be an American only thing, but I'm not sure.
@@StephenJReid I can imagine how long the edit was !
@@JakeMay Takes about 8hours for a video like this. Some take a lot longer.
@@StephenJReid much faster workflow than me then! Takes me about 8 hours to edit a much shorter, much more lo-fi vid!
Gr8t Video Bonnie Lad all the best with your Health
Thanks! 🙂
Top video thanks mate, liked n subbed for further escapades 😮
Thanks Jon!
Thank you! 😁😁
Fantastic video as always buddy. Your cinematography skills never cease to amaze me 🤩👌👌
thanks! 🙂
What boots are wearing mate they look brilliant?
Vivobarefoot Forest Esc. Always been curious about them and got them in a sale. Still forming my opinion but I really like them so far.
@@StephenJReid
Thank you
Great Video and to be honest I thought you were putting out a lot of videos.
Great video lovely spot hares castle, how's the barefoot boots? Been toying with idea of getting a pair for walking in mournes
Glad you like the video 🙂 CFS on my list of possibilities. My dad had it for years
Great channel thanks 👍
Just wanted to say past two years I'm exactly the same as yourself sore throat etc generally tired on off constantly doctor tried tell me stress or eat better 🤔.. ok doc , I'm 44 year old male normally fit and healthy, suspect it's since I had COVID in early spring two years ago, anyhoow don't give up, searching for the cause and get well soon 👍👍
What an entertaining video, cheers from Indonesia, youve got a new subs
Thank you! 🙂
Anxiety buddy, or PTSD … wish you well .. I suffer from this .. 💯❤❤❤❤❤ Love the sarcasm and humour !
Thank you 🙂
I loved the video and explanation. What do you work for?
@Bulkan Goku V0 thank you! 🙂
18:30 Will you review the terra nova?
Thoughts?
However, if carrying my micro tent continues to ward off the rain then it will have proven to have been an excellent investment indeed!
Would love a link to those trousers, mate?
Loving your videos. maybe im a crazy but anytime i get bad feedback or its negative to the extent where the person is trying to be mean/rude, i completely ignore it and act like it never happened. I cant say its the same all the time, but learning to make yourself happy is the most important thing.
Yeah I’ve started just not responding and deleting really negative comments. I’d just leave and ignore most of them but then they would appear in google studio and I would still see them
@@StephenJReid I’m sorry you go through that, just know that for whatever negativity you may receive from people…hundreds of us still appreciate whatever you do.❤️
Anxiety manifests in everyone differently, I recently went on SSRI'S for anxiety disorder, and I was convinced there was something physically wrong with me for months. No shame checking it out. My regards.
Glad you found a solution!
@@StephenJReid thank you!
Looked a class spot mate. brilliant video
Thanks James!
Have checked with a specialist on like ticks cause I got lime camping in America from a tick and I had the weirdest stuff go in with my body my blood work would come back fine but I wasn’t
Thanks! 🙂 got tested for Lymes but negative thankfully
Great video Stephen 👍
Thanks Stephen 🙂🙂
Great content dude, just started watching and the quality and content is great. On the illness side of things I have been getting sick alot to all since covid, so although doctor says might be ADHD related or stress don't discount the fact since covid alot of our immune systems have been affected, but your a healthy guy and I think if you stay positive and keep the body in good shape I'm sure you will improve Iver time. Chin up and great work.
Thanks for watching! 🙂 Doctor actually thinking similar, most likely to be ADHD related
nice video. adding rain effect to the thumbnail would be nice.
Thanks 🙂 taking a couple weeks off in July. Some of the things I stress about will be worse in 5years! 😂
@@StephenJReid oh dear 🤦♀️…..worse bit of advice EVER lol…everything will be alright….you’ll see 👍
I like paramo stuff but wish they would do like Lundhags does on some of their similar jackets and keep the top half the jacket (shoulders, hood, etc) in waterproof goretex material and then the rest of the jacket is a polycotton breathable blend that can be treated with nikwax. I have this exact Lundhags jacket and its amazing.
Think it goes against their ethos of no PFAS
@@StephenJReid I assume you mean PFC? Most manufacturers in Sweden don't use PFC's anymore. This includes Lundhags. You will commonly see the markings of "PFC-free", which includes PFA
