Always thought it was crazy people feeding baby beardies 100 crickets a day or as many in 15 minutes. When I first got my baby Cheeto, I would feed her a good 20 small bugs a day and always felt like she was underfed despite her being happy/healthy and a little chubby. Makes sense, but I was always stressed out about it. Glad to see you pushing for the correct way. I’d be broke if I followed the 15 minutes a day guideline 😂

Thanks for your tips! Week 3 of having a beardie, I definitely overfed her the first couple weeks but recently she's been expressing much more interest in veggies & doesn't seem as interested in the crickets/eats them more slowly throughout the day instead of pouncing immediately. I was a bit worried at first but she still seems to be decently active?? I'm learning so much lol

If you give calcium when you supply the bugs, what’s the problem? If you make sure they have plenty of water, they won’t get gout

Ideas for the best greens? I have had her 3 weeks now and she eats about 5-8 bugs a day and I am happy she is having enough!

When doing the gap in feeding for 30+ grams, and later, is that just skipping bugs, or salad too?

So just to confirm, is it the length of the insect should be equal to the gap between the BD eyes or the width of the insect?

My bearded dragon is a male that is almost a year old, 266 grams, and 14 inches long. How much and how often should I be feeding him? He has no problem devouring his salads. I feel like I’m feeding him too much, especially salads cause he is having watery urates.

Interesting! I'm wondering if we're basically power feeding other baby reptiles as well.
I think people generally associate power feeding with snakes, which is considered to be a negative practice.
We currently have a 3-ish month old baby leopard gecko in our care for rehabbing (born with MBD), and the standard advice is to feed her as many bugs as she can eat in a 5-10 minute span EVERY DAY. This rule of thumb seems to include many other species as well, but now I'm questioning it 🤔

Don't do the 5 minute thing. I have a slider turtle, and her food container gives instructions that say to give her all the food she can eat in 2 minutes or less. Turtles grow very slowly. This will lead to obesity for turtles. I don't know much about geckos, but I assume it's the same. It seems to be a reoccurring thing in reptiles.

How long does the beardie stay a "baby"? And how many to feed at the next stage of age?

My girl eats more of her salad after it wilts a bit over being fresh. I use to throw that away and give more fresh. I use to waste so much salad on her.

Sunny window and or grow light, kratky leafy greens, microgreens here, too many chemicals used here for wild picks, being disabled means no gathering in safer places.

Hi, I see in the video that the baby is on a loose substrate. Is it okay at 3 months old that they can be on loose substrate?

Sadly we followed that as we read that every where. Now we know better and try to spread it now. Learned it is 8-12 appropriate sized, per meal and how many meals a day depends on age. Now that is too much too I see. My three year old is fat, we got her when she was over a year old, euthanasia save of a healthy disposable pet. She basically has two true feeder meals a month. She is bioactive and lots of various clean up crew to chase down and eat. I grow leafy greens in her tank for foraging. I feel bad at times and dig in the substrate for tiny baby mealworms to give her and she is happy. She loves microgreens sowed in there too. All the feeders are fed very well, her cuc is mealworms, superworms, powdered orange , dwarf white isopods. A few times a year, I seed bsfl into the substrate, they keep eating and growing and make huge flies. Thank you for these videos!
