Generally Norway is quite good at recognising different talents, not just pop music/ nice singing voices. Maybe because we don’t have much culture for pop music in our country. Too bad the singers still nearly always win though.
I went to the (national) top in a youth contest with a classical clarinet piece when I was 14 here in Norway.

From the country next door (to Norway) an average to quite bad coloratura or lyrical soprano will always win out over a good or excellent anything else, at least from the audience. Well, to be honest if it's Turandot the tenor is usually the one getting the applauds but then, there are no coloraturas in that one. On a very good day or anything Wagner, the media critics might acknowledge that the mezzo or even the buffa baritone were okay. I remember watching footage from a Tom Lehrer concert in the Netherlands and they clapped in unison. We don't in the UK.
It is not just Norway it's an universal thing I can tell you :) the crowd tend to clap in sync after a moment of chaos, if every body clap at a sufficiently low pace every one ends claping at the same time, and in general you start by claping fast then you low down your own claps naturally and you end up trying to catch the pace of the ones around you. It takes a few second to a crowd to synchronize. In France we do it for example. There is a science which study crowds and its behavior, you can find research about that fact :)

AGT judges aren't able to appreciate art at all. Howie fuckin buzzed out Quick Style when they had an amazing and captivating dance number on the Champions edition, just because they didn't do lots of jumping in the air and tricks and stuff. AGT thinks THAT'S talent. But it ain't art hun. It doesn't make me feel the way quick style does.

Aqualia ! AGT has become about base level entertainment rather than talent. There was some interest in finding real talent in the early years but the audience they've built now isn't interested, they just want to be entertained regardless of whether the performer has a genuine talent, so I doubt anything will ever change. They might get new judges but they'll pick people who have the same fake idea of what "talent" means.

You can call anything talent. It's classical music talent that TwoSet didn't think could ever be seen on mainstream TV. I'm pleasantly surprised by how authentic they were to the music and their craft AND that they were super appreciated for their skills. It's already difficult to find one or the other, but damn, they got both! I'm happy for them!

I don't know why but I always fail to appreciate pieces like this, usually 20th century pieces full of dissonance. I do love classical music but these somehow seems like some random notes, dissonant chords and lack a clear structure for me... I know that's totally not true but I simply can't help thinking that. I hope someone can change my mind on this. It would be great if I can actually learn to listen and appreciate this kind of music

I speak German and English (obviously) and with that combination it's pretty much alright as well :D
I speak Dutch and English and understand German, but after a few words, I lost track of what she was saying xD I can usually read Swedish and Norwegian, but it's pronounced so differently!

The difference between standard Norwegian (or whatever they call it) and standard Swedish (that's what we call it) is less than the difference between the two most different Swedish dialects.
I love how they add embellishments to the original dynamics in order to play this movement on its own. It shows a very high level of understanding of the music. It's like re-editing a film scene all over again to show it on its own as a "short film"
So... this is the late Dragon Ball Z Abridged of this performance.
A shorter version or piece, adjusted to stand on its own, standing as a quality work in its own right once completed.
Dude, they are so good it's incredible. I have goose bumps all over me. Shostakovich is not easy to interpret. I don't like the whole prodigies talk, but these 4 kids are actually amazing. No playing a lot of notes per second, just dense and emotive playing. Kudos to them.
In all honesty that very movement by Shostakovich (8th quartet), is possibly the most played string quartet piece in competition-context for people under 15. It is not the most difficult piece to convey convincingly. My string quartet played it in a classical competition here in Norway some 8 years ago, and won. It's just a very available, emotional piece that sounds way harder to play then what it really is. Just for some insight...

@@paunaic5460 We are defenitely not taught to clap that way, the applauds (sorry if I'm not spelling it right) often start with everyone having their own tempo and rythm but as we go further people start to take the same tempo as the ones next to them (I don't know why) and soon the whole audience is synced! It actually is a pretty cool experience!

Before I actually knew anything about it, I thought America's Got Talent was some big elite talent show you actually had to be good to get on to.
In France we got a classical music talent show called Prodiges (which means Prodigies)
It's broadcasted every christmas, and it's basically for kids and teens (approximately from 7 to 18)
There's instrument, voice and dance categories, and the whole jury is composed of well known people in their domain (the instrument judge is Gautier Capuçon a very well known cellist, the opera singer changes a lot but this year it was Gaelle Arquez, and for the dancer it's Marie Claude Pietragalla (and before her it was Patrick Dupond))
And a lot of people watch it!
Well at least people will accept classical music on Christmas.

Haha, I actually studied piano at Baratt-Due as a kid (and incidentally I personally know some of the family whom its named after).
I don't think Norway is *much* better at recognizing classical music than the rest of the world, but I appreciate that they chose to include these guys in this show. They obviously aren't going to win, but it might expose a broader audience to how good actual classical performance can be in a format that doesn't give the audience time to lose interest

Norway also has another classical music television show where they get famous Norwegian people to conduct or orchestra (KORK). You can find it at NRK.no/TV

Seeing the violist and cellist coordinating with each other warms my violist heart so much, thank you for mentioning that. That quartet is so talented
for me, the most impressive thing is that the audience (differently from america's got talent, britain's got talent and other similar trash mainstream shows) didn't start cheering while the students were playing. they just respect the musicians, stay silent and clap and cheer at the right time

I haven't played in a string quartett. Because I'm a flute. But I have played in a flute qaurtett and it was an amazing experience. And we won the 1. Prize at the cantonal competition. I have also played a duo with my friend (she is a guitarist).

I feel like these kids did exactly what we need of classical music!
1. They play an "infamous piece", not all these overplayed pieces (some of them still remain beautiful pieces but gosh they are so overplayed!)
2. They play it as it should sound, not fast or without phrasing and dynamics.
3. They play for real without seeking to be "selling image" but they play music
4. They play as a team, obviously prepared without any unecessary mainstream tv extras we see performers say
I am actually so happy that these kids actually do classical music right and I am happy that finally we do not get these cringy reactions of "omg booooring!" by the judges or the crowd. Ah this was a breath of fresh air guys!

2023, it only took roughly almost 4 years to hear your performance of Shostakovich string quartet no.8 2nd mvt! I just randomly go back to this video and realize Eddy has known the violin part since this early on. And I have been wanting to hear you perform this so much and dream do come true if you wait long enough lol. Thank you for the awesome performances and I hope twoset go long enough to hear the rest of your frequently play excerps but in full perfomance mode!

as far as I know, Norwegian people are really into classical music. even their metal bands have a bit of classical music influence. (some of them at least)

most metal musicians (guitarists and other string instrument especially) are influenced by paganini etc
@@LageRUclips most metal guitarists don't know who paganini is. I'm in a metal band as my proof and am friends with metal guitarists. However, when metal guitarists are classically/jazz influenced they are generally better and may enter the guitar hall of fame as it were.

Have you guys seen Alexander Rybak? He's a Belarusian-Norwegian violinist/singer/composer, and he incorporates violin playing into his performances in a really effective way. I recommend watching him, especially his 2009 Eurovision performance "Fairytale".

Brett and Eddy don’t know this, since there aren’t any subtitles, but the woman at the very beginning actually asks: «Hvilket stykke skal dere spille», which translates to «Which piece are you going to play». So one of the judges referred to it as «piece» , not «song»! 😃

Norwegian here! We really do love classical music, be it for wind bands, orchestras, choirs, you name it! The amateur symphony orchestra i play in (best in the country!) is having its 125 year anniversary this year! And my uni orchestra is participating in a project with the three local high schools with music programmes to do Mozart's Requiem, with well over 200 people in the choir!
Maybe this is why so much good symphonic metal comes from Scandinavia as well xD
It was really interesing when the Kid explained about the history and the story of the piece. I can feel the horror from world war 2 through it

@ily_areyan The bombing of Dresden was part of ww2. It was in 1945 and destroyed most of the city. So it actually was. Plus the cold war caused no bombing in Germany at all... At that time Germany was surely in danger but it didn't come that far.
i actually teared up a bit when the kids got the golden buzzer...their faces said it all...they didn't expect it, but they 100% deserved it...all the practice payed off! CONGRATULATIONS! and salute to the judge that pressed the buzzer..she actually knows what it takes to do what those little people did!
