As a jazz musician, there are lots of rules in jazz, and it’s very important to know all of them
That way you know when and how to break them
Yeah, jazz gets a bad rap from classical musicians for being some sort of lawless musical void, but that is for sure not the case. Our theory is based on classical theory- we just took it in a different direction. But the fundamentals are the same. You learn the basics and then learn how to elevate your playing beyond the rules you were taught.
I don't speak for all classical musicians who make fun of jazz, but there are people who do appreciate the technicalities in both styles even if they make fun of the other!
Most people who make fun of jazz can't play it nor know theory enough to understand how it's very much structure an rules in moss jazz.
Bayonnaise I don’t see a problem with making fun of jazz, so long as people don’t take it seriously. I make plenty fun of classical. It’s a problem when people actually believe the stuff
To me it's just two different ways of expressing yourself and I love both.

闪光少女:我太难了!
I wish they'd done their research better and actually talked to music directors of both classical and chinese orchestras. Speaking from a chinese instrument player's POV, there are so many things that I feel did an injustice to represent chinese instrumental music. (Choice of musical piece, wrong instrumental choice, etc. etc.) Ethnic instruments already don't get enough representation as it is, even in their own respective ethnic groups. Imagine what it could have been if they did it right. What a wasted opportunity.
yijun21 what would it be like if they got it right? What do they need to change? I’m just curious.
as a chinese instrument player (erhu and guzheng) i agree 100% it made me so pissed
As a Chinese instrument player, which version of this did you like better?
Former member of my school’s Chinese Orchestra and that suona sounded nothing like one
Are the actors and actresses actually can play? I'm not used to traditional instruments so I don't know since the movie actors and actresses seemed legit, I hope the show will be at least the same, since, well I kinda like the movie regardless and this clip stopped me from watching it.

Music With Arturo haha
naan why do I love this so much
I'm a grumpy old lady rather than a musician but this is exactly how I feel when they show someone knitting in TV and movies.
I know!
I played lion dance for 3 years back when I was 9-12, and I eh... I still cringe at people performing lion dance on TV shows (the non professional ones ofc)
“Knitting is basically just rubbing and clicking two sticks together right?”
My favorite is when they show something like a really long and intricate cabled scarf, and the person knitting it is gripping the needles like handlebars and dropping the working yarn between each stitch. Like, honey, how many decades have you been at that for?!?
You should have a RUclips channel exclusively roasting knitting
3:16 Actually imagine being an actor and hearing the raw sound and trying to keep a straight face... I mean, in that way, they're pretty good actors, right?
depends on which movie their acting in, probably would make better actors in other movies without instruments
Whenever there's people trying to play a classical instrument, TwoSet's job is to roast them for being fake.

I play the guzheng, and the girl playing it in the front was t o u c h i n g the strings. And her left hand barely did crap. Also i couldn't hear the guzheng at all, but the guzheng is supposed to be a powerful and loud kind of instrument. You could not hear any trace of the guzheng in the orchestra. I want to c r y
Please go practice at least faking guzheng, because i could not see a note be played. China wants our instruments, not people that call touching the strings playing the guzheng.
hey at least the Guzheng is not making a guqin sound… I’m very over with this not able to tell apart Guzheng and guqin thing in tv shows right now…
All she practiced was trying to look cool without messing up her hair 🔥🔥 I honestly forgot about her since I didn't hear the guzheng at all 💀
Yet another reason why the original was better. The girl playing the guzheng in that was apparently a very well-known player, and at a very high level. In fact, I've seen her in other performances. Twoset covered a live performance that included her as well, although I don't think they recognized her.

9:38 I’m so fucking impressed.
Conflict in music is mostly internal, between yourself and well yourself.
Occasionally you get yourself vs some crusty old jerk, but that rarely makes drama, everyone bows to the esteemed geezer.
I guess some conflict occurs when several are vying for lead of the section or concertmaster, but hopefully that abates once the tryout is over and you can work together.
Yea most of the conflict is internal.
The music department where I went to highschool had SO MUCH CONFLICT AND DRAMA. (rant)
First chair violinist had a gf for two years but had a huge crush on 1st chair viola (???) music director caught two kids trying to 'do it' on a charter bus ride, fighting over cubby spots/music stands, band and orchestra shared the same room and sometimes band practice would run into orchestra's, these two kids that had been together since Freshman year split in Senior year and she left orchestra right before a concert....oh lawd...
Not to say that conflict in music isn't real. But it mostly happens between people who have self-esteem/reality-check issues. Or actual artistic differences.
As for "crusty old jerk": Just wondering if I qualify based on the "old" adjective. I'm definitely "old," as in "OK Boomer" old. Finally, after years of study, work, family-raising, widowhood, and grandparenthood, and still making music, I've reached this formerly unimaginable number of years. I actually pat myself on the back for it, and now finally understand why my elders, now mostly dead, used to just smile and nod at my earnest and youthful nonsenses.
Music, however, is eternal. There are Greats a lot older than me who are still greats; and Greats a lot younger than me, too. My Bach hero is Nathan Milstein. My Prokofiev hero is Gil Shaham. My overall favorite violinist ever is Hilary Hahn. (Of course your heroes on those fronts may differ: we could talk about that.) Age has NOTHING to do with it.
Quit with the ageism, whether it's the dismissive and pejorative "crusty old jerk," or "esteemed geezer," equally pejorative but grudgingly accepting of superior achievement, while implying that younger people do it better and the aforementioned geezer only gets whatever privilege is going on account of seniority. I do have a story about a fantastic violist, a member of the orchestra I'm privileged to play in, who taught and played up until she was 99, and just barely missed playing at the age of 100. She would certainly fall into what you call the esteemed geezer category, which I'm also approaching. I know for sure that after she was about 90 she wasn't contributing much, but she was nevertheless deservedly honored. I enlarged music for her, so that it could easily be read, for every concert she played in.
You yourself might be old someday and maybe still playing, IF you're lucky. If you're still honored enough based on your contribution to the art that your orchestra saves a seat for you. Good luck with that. Good luck also with maturing to become a person that children and young adults can look to for encouragement in their own artistic lives. Because the cycle of music-making should not end with you. What will you give to ensure the survival of all that you've been given? How much love, how much joy will you pass on?
I know I've made a bigger deal out of your comment than you ever meant to provoke, casually tossed off as it was. But your "crusty old jerk" and "esteemed geezer" phrases definitely deserve to be called out. Think again, young padawan. And, with gratitude, mine the wisdom of your elders in the art to which you aspire.
Signed,
Could Be Your Grandma.
Aren't concerts like the one they dropped this morning supposed to represent conflict and competition between the solo and the orchestra?
@@johncrowerdoe5527 Meh. That would be a pretty shallow (Music Appreciation 101, Chapter 1) view of the situation. From the perspective of an orchestral violinist who has accompanied many great soloists, I can tell you that what in fact happens is that the orchestra does everything possible to support the soloist and let her/him shine. The "competition" model is a remnant of the baroque concerto grosso form, where the orchestra was much, much smaller.
@@snowyminnesota6028 Of cause the competition is only symbolic and scripted, not between the actual performers. Just like in other stage arts.
Point was that one doesn't have to dig into gossip territory, when there's artfully composed conflict in the score itself.
9:30 you guys improvised a better duel than the show-runners could write
There's a part where a girl who played the Erhu did not keep a straight bow AT ALL. I almost cursed. And after that, there's a vibrato but the girl's left hand did nothing LOL
I noticed the terrible erhu bow angle as well and was waiting for the guys to say something! I mean, i thought they would find it triggering since they probably had first hand experience of how that would sound like...
I was more mortified seeing banhu in first chair for a piece that definitely does NOT need banhu. (Also, qudi with non-existent fingerings??????
@Zukai Hayakawa just my 2 cents worth:
There are left-handed dizis (take for instance those used by Phang Thean Siong from SCO as an example) which are held this way (by 'right' I presume you meant the audience's right and not the performer's right). As for embouchure, I guess everyone's anatomy is different anyway so I wouldn't nit-pick on that. Esp since you mentioned his mouth not looking open - in traditional Dizi teaching, I believe the size of the aperture is said to be '米粒般大小' (lit. Size of a grain of rice). In many modern Dizi musicians you can barely see the aperture as well. Not that I would really know since I don't play the Dizi - just an impression based on what I've seen in the CO scene.
@Zukai Hayakawa ruclips.net/video/mvPBm8stQNY/видео.html
Come think of it, actually even for myself the aperture isn't very visible either. But the shape of the embouchure can vary depending on one's anatomy so yeah. I wouldn't really get nitpicky

where do u live
yes hello fellow UTC+8 person
@@chipmunkundercover8870 The Philippines. Just finished watching the whole vid.
First,i am so grateful that Twoset could watch this remake.
Second, forgive my English which is not well enough.
This TV show edition was released on the Chinese video website in December.
After more people can watch the new music battle video, some people show their opinions. For example, they think the tv show's actors do not look better (dress, appearance) than movie editon, and the design of the battle is not more exciting than the movie edition either.By the way,i want to point that the actors from tv editon are all new and young . I believe the director wanted to encourage the Chinese actors of new era.
Twoset didn't show all the details after the Chinese team begin changing their piece from winter to the piece of the Chinese opera《Dream in the Deserted Garden-Zaoluo Robe》.游园惊梦 -皂罗袍 Exactly, those scenes really shocked me because the music is so touching and penetrating.
When comparing the new music battle with the original one, i have to acknowledge that the new one didnt have enough actors who could really play these instruments, even one of the main characters dont know how to play erhu, but some of them could play. Some people prefer《 Bumble Bee》to 《Summer& Winter》, and the scenes look more exciting than the new one.On the other hand, the new battle was designed like a long game, so the western team didn't feel like they lost the battle so easily like the original one.You can feel that both of these teams had scored.
Although Twoset thought that the original one was more make sense in real music skill, the new edition has it's own special highlight on the choice of pieces.
If I use one word to describe these two music battle, the original one will be"Quick'',and the TV edition will be"Change".
In addition, the TV edition shows us why Chinese musical team won. Before the battle, they found that some time Chinese music dont really need to pay attention to the conductor;however, western music should pay more attention to conductor,so they practice the piece of Chinese Opera, and finally, a best friend-Tian Shuang Song (who was a western music student, and sth had been happened between she and the main character.I cant explain in short words )of a main character(Jing Chen) secretly told Jing Chen that the western team would play> and>,so that Chinese team had a chance to win (Both of the teams didn't know what music the other team had prepared. Maybe Chinese team would lose at the beginning because western team could follow the Chinese piece easier due to the differences of the structure ---explained by TV edition).
Not everyone is a musician. When we watch some tv shows about music performance, we don't need to judge how fake they are as Twoset. I want to ask everyone don't be so strict about the video or this TV show.
I guess I regret to @ Twoset to watch the new edition music battle.
In the beginning, I really happy to@ Twoset because the new one really made me moved. After I read the comments here, sigh.......but.....well...it happened finally. The Only thing I can do is saying sth for this TV show.
I am still grateful to Twoset. I don't know how many other people request them to watch the video, but I can feel like Twoset reply to my request.

"At the cost of intonation" LMAOOOO

When your internet can go slowly but not quickly
It really isn't a battle since they're playing the same piece. At the same time. With the same tempo.....
Tbh when I watch this kinda tv show, coz I don’t have a musical background I don’t really care how the music sounds like. All I really want to roll my eyes at is the plot - it’s just like a norm for Chinese (esp mainland) to try to prove that the Chinese/eastern “thing” which is instruments/music in this case is better than the western ... I’m like, but you cannot really compare though... they are just different, nothing is really better but just different 🙄
I play a couple of different "western" instruments, one of which is the violin, and the other the hardingfele. NOT the same! When traditions cannot be compared, I think we should not force them into artificial molds. In western classical string music, I'm competent to make judgements. Less capable with regard to ancient Norsk music, but I'm working on it. I would *never* presume to rank one vs the other. They have different purposes and ideals.
@@snowyminnesota6028 Exactly! I'm just always baffled why they always want to be 'superior'... like that's not the point in any sense
@Jody CP - I agree with you. It's sad that we can see similar things in films in the U.S. too - one type vs. another, be it rock, classical, jazz, hiphop, or what have you. Also, so much of Western "classical" music since 1900 has been influenced by Debussy's music, and Debussy found inspiration in music from Asia.
I don't know... It feels like when you try to make a ling ling movie and you don't know anything about classical music and just make it terrible

When i have heard harmonic progression, I imagined how it would be if you study at music university and suddenly the teacher tells you: grab a piece of paper and note the mathematic formula of harmonic progresion.
At first I thought the print on Eddy's hoody was "SIBELIUS.'
