I bought my Hornby Ivatt 2mt over 40 years ago. 46521. Ran it for a couple of years, stored it away for many years started running again as I took retirement and then after finding your servicing videos I decided to take the body off and service it up. Still runs like new. Thanks for your inspiration Sam and a very happy new year to you and your family.
Ahh yes I know the ones - they really were built well in those days - well done for getting it running again! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Another outstanding review Sam! The Ivatt 4 was one of the last locos built by the LMS and it really holds a claim as one of the most successful 2-6-0 designs in the UK! It also held the privilege of being the last mainline 2-6-0 to ever run in service before the end of steam in 1968. Quite a history this class has!
I'm a Southern man by trade but I've often wanted to pick up one of these if I ever come across it. Your video just gave me an answer to my decision!!
46521 is an Ivatt class 2.. Based at Great central Railway The standard class 2 had a smaller cab and bigger chimney
Thanks very much for the info on this James, appreciate it! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
All steam locos are beautiful. No such thing as an ugly one. I really need one of these; would look fab on my planned late 50's M&GN themed layout.
That is true actually Matty, and definitely - they are very cool looking! :D
Happy new year,
Sam :)
The Ivatt 4’s are a firm favourite for me and a lot of local rail enthusiasts, because they were the back bone of East Anglian rail in the latter days, when most pre-grouping and pre-nationalisation locos were getting tired and life expired. I absolutely love them, they’re a great loco to work on, it’s a great shame that only one was preserved but at least we still get to see an Ivatt 4 at all ☺️
East Anglian? Really?
That's extremely fascinating! I had no idea the Ivatt 4s were regulars on the old GER Network. I know the B17s were pretty common along the GER Mainline too, yes?
I know they had a significant NER Network presence and they dominated the Stainmore Line near where it merged into the S&C at Kirkby Stephen. In fact KS East had only two J21s, and 1 N10 - but a whole complement of Ivatt 4s in the 50s!
Thanks for sharing your experiences! Best Regards to you and your family, friend!
I actually really like the very high footplate. Makes them look more unique
These things were nicknamed ‘Flying Pigs’ ,I can see why... Decent model Sam, not really my choice though.
Happy New Year!
James ;)
haha yeah I can see why too, lol! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I love the compact appearance and functionality is beauty to me, this loco was designed to run tender first as effectively as the normal direction, a really useful engine and a great model. Big tick ✅
Yeah me too - it's definitely got a certain charm to it!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
My granddad had one of these! But sadly when he passed away half of his locos were given to me and half. I couldn't manage to bring her to my own layout. But I have many memories with this loco, and I am extremely tempted to get one. Thank you for an excellent video
Really sorry to hear about your grandad Paul, but glad you have good memories with this loco! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam great review as always. I have the weathered version of this & I know they may seem ugly to some people but it has character in coal loads! Pulling a rake of private owner wagons it evokes those nostalgic distant days of the LMS. Love it!
Thanks very much Richard - I agree they really do have character! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
As always you give a fantastic review, most enjoyable......Happy New Year Sam.....looking forward to viewing your Chanel next year.....
Thanks so much for that, really glad you like them!
Happy new year,
Sam :)
I have 2 of these Ivatt Class 4's, both from the same era. They run so well, been meaning to chip the second one so I can double head them.
That's great to hear Rico - they really do run well! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I worked on the preserved example when
It visited the North Norfolk Railway back in 2011, fantastic loco! I’m trying to convince the higher ups at the Mid-Norfolk to hire her for a gala so I can play on her again 😂
Double upload? Nice!!
I have this but in number 43106. The one that's at the SVR. :-)
Yep! Thought I'd go out with a bang! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Me too!! Well i did, the motor just died in my one
"So today Bachmann sell this model for £135, which to me sounds a little bit steep" Sam'sTrains, 2018
They were only painted Unlined Black by the LMS (to my knowledge), so I find the BR Lined Black livery to be prettier on these locos. I can see why people think these are ugly, but I like them personally. As another commenter has mentioned "It looks so American...yet so British", and I completely agree with that statement, I find the charm is in the uniqueness of the class. Good review as ever, Sam, and I think you were quite fair with how you reviewed this model :)
Hey AJ, thanks for the info on that - I can't recall seeing them in any other liveries either. I agree too - it's a very unusual style applied to this one!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
No worries Sam, thank you for replying and keep up the good work! :)
Showing up 4+ years late to say I think the loco looks fantastic, especially in that black and red livery
You know, given the brilliant tender pickup and connection scheme Bachmann uses on a lot of their American prototype locos, even in N scale, there's no good reason these tenders cannot have all wheel pickup either. Hopefully they decide to add it sooner rather than later. Proper bronze bearings in the chassis would be a marked improvement too. I'd happily pay a bit more for those features on a loco.
I agree completely - there's no reason why not to add full pickups - especially given the already massive price tags of these models!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Agreed; Bachmann's split-post connection for their tender leads to amazing reliability. I have Kato 2-8-2 i've modified to run with a Bachmann VC16 tender (A big 12 wheel one) and with 10 wheels each side picking up track power, it never ever stalls. Making this tender live on the Ivatt would double the number of wheels collecting current, and is a change Bachmann should consider. Their Ivatt 2 tank has a live front truck, and that's a much larger engineering challenge than a live tender.
Oh yes! These are definitely one of my favorite Midland region designs, not sure why, probably because they remind me of late US 2-6-0s that have been dropped into the UK.
Ooh that's good to hear - yes they do look a lot like US locos! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Dear Sam, this is a lovely loco and I enjoiyed seeing it run.
ps: I got a tt scale Castle class and some Fitting Brown and cream Coaches for Christmas!
greetings Gallium
Thanks a lot mate, me too - it is a fun one to run! That sounds awesome - hope you enjoy it mate! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I remember you can see a texture of this on the railworks Severn valley railway, it's in the last station on the route, but it looks so beautiful. Runs amazing, looks strong too. Nice review,
- Shyloh
Ooh that's very cool - I didn't know about that!! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Excellent review of the Ivatt class 4 Sam 👍😉 I personally like the BR Standard Class 4 more than the Ivatt Class 4 and my most favourite Ivatt loco that I like is Class 2 as they much niece in their appearance. Sam have you seen the Dapol LSWR B4 Class tank, think about getting one and which livery on these locomotive do you like?
Thanks a lot Joe, it's certainly very hard to choose between them - glad you like the standard though!
Yes I have a B4, I'm due to review it soon! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
A 2-6-0 mogul! Interesting engine. I love a good 2-6-0 and this sure has a distinctive look to it. I quite like it.
Thanks a lot mate, yeah for sure - they really are very distinctive!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam. This loco's no more ugly than you'd want in a freight loco - even better if it had been weathered! Wanted one of the LMS versions until you said the real loco appeared in the late 1940s - I want to model a bit of the 1930s West Coast main line so your helpful review has saved me some money! May get Bachmann's lined LMS Stannier 2-6-0 with painted backhead - also available Hattons and no doubt elsewhere. Cheers, man.
haha yeah that's a very fair point! Ahh that's good to hear - glad to have saved you money there, it only just existed in the LMS era!
The Stanier mogul looks good - I have one, but haven't opened it yet - saving it for a video! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Ivatts are growing on me. Especially his class 2s! Used to much prefer the earlier LMS locos but nowadays I'm fairly sure will end up with one of his on the layout somewhere
Yeah me too actually - I really like them, given how ugly they are! ;D
Happy new year,
Sam :)
There is something rather satisfying about such a utilitarian looking locomotive, in much the same way that American second generation diesels are pig ugly but still somehow look great. I'm glad I bought a couple of Ivatts when Hattons were trying to shift unsold models several years ago. Back then you could pick one up brand new for £56. Its nice knowing that if I ever sold one or part exchanged I'd easily get more than I paid for it.
I agree with you on that! Blimey I wish we could buy Bachmann locos for those prices today - but sadly they won't allow retailers to do it :(
Happy new year,
Sam :)
She is a very unique looking engine.
She reminds me of the logging 2-6-0s and 2-6-2s we have in the US.
I am fond of the gap between the boiler and drive wheels, since that is very common here in the US :)
Definitely Chris - yes there's a very American look to this one! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Not the best of models Sam, quite a large gap between locos and tender, and lack of pick ups on the tender is surprising at these prices....Another great Review...Bob
Yeah I would agree - and supposedly even the latest 2018 version has the same issues!! :O
Happy new year,
Sam :)
It looks so American.. yet so British... WHAT
kinda looks like a USATC S160 and a Ivatt type 2 mixed, maybe it is all of the outside pipes?
Yeah, replace the buffers with a cow catcher and give it some knuckle couplers, and you'd have an American engine!
InfernoTheGameGuy IKR I looked down expecting cow catchers and I was like WHAT
haha yeah quite a few people have said that - I know what you mean! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I believe it took inspiration from some of the locos we shipped over to you Brits during the war.
Beautiful model! I think these engines are cool! Good thing one is preserved!
Agreed!
Thanks a lot Ryno - I agree!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
It is indeed! My brother frequently shovels coal on 43106 - has nothing but nice things to say about her!
Yes, Bachmann have done one of these models in LMS livery. Its product code was 32-575, and I believe it was released in 2005 as one of the first Ivatt 4mt releases.
Ahh fantastic - thanks so much for the info on that, I'll look those up! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Ooo yes one of my favourite engines,
Thanks Sam!! :D
That's great to hear mate - glad you liked it!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam got one of thee in my collection and for got I had it one as when i bought it we moved house back to Mousehole Cornwall. Now I've just finished wiring up my layout i will give it a test run hope goes' as well as yours mate have oil it first been in the box since about 2012 i think its dcc .Great review again Sam thank you.
Thanks Tony, fingers crossed for it - have you not tested it yet?!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@@SamsTrains no. but I have now 19 /11/ 2020 oiled it up first and it runs very well happy days
I seem to recall Bachmann making an LMS version in unlined black, think it was a couple of years ago now though.
And fun fact (this is a tad nerdy), but there is a difference between the Ivatt class 2 and the standard 2, using the first digit of the running number. The LMS locos were given the prefix number of '4' at nationalisation, whereas BR standard designs had the prefix number of '7'.
Hope you had a good Christmas Sam, and all the best for the new year! :)
Dougie
You're absolutely right Dougie, I've since found that version! Thanks for the handy tip - that makes it much easier to figure out which is which!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
A nice review, Sam. The Ivatt class 4 was a very good model, with a lot of character, and a very good performer for its type. Its curious that despite the old packaging, it is DCC ready and has a very convincing detailing (expect the unpainted cab, but its not a big problem) and there is an LMS black version of the loco. I don't consider that its ugly, it is strange looking because of being american style design, but is still atractive (and no, I don't think the stremlined Coronation is ugly neither). Anyways, hope you're having a nice day, and happy new year.
Thanks so much mate - I agree, they are really decent looking models!
Glad you enjoyed it,
Cheers,
Sam :)
The only preserved Ivatt class 4 is 43106, it lives at the Severn valley railway and I'll be going there tomorrow and I might see the Ivatt class 4.
I have ridden behind it a couple of times though.
Ooh fantastic Adam - say hello to her from me! Have a great day! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Watch your streams while I'm in school ... Worth it
haha! Don't get caught! ;D
Sam'sTrains well I'm still in school watchin your videos like i said WORTH it
Nice one Sam. I think the Ivatt Class 4 has a certain utilitarian charm about it which fits in rather well with the 'no nonsense' philosophy of the late LMS and carried on into BR by Ivatt's successor Mr. Riddles. Bye for now, Joachim
Thanks a lot mate! Yeah I'd agree with you there, it certainly does! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
#43160 was built at Doncaster Works on August 14th, 1952 and served British Railways until her withdrawl from service on January 10th, 1965. She was cut up at T.W. Ward Scrapyard on April 30th, 1965. Age 12.
Thanks again for the handy info as always Vincent!
Happy new year,
Sam :)
Hi sam! Did you know that james from thomas is based on an irish engine? James is based on the D&SER K2 class mogul. Only one has been presrrved and its in the whitehead railway museum in northern ireland. She is currently RPSI no. 461. You should see if you can find a model of her and do another thomas and friends in real life video! I think it would be cool! (Even though i h8 thomas but i love anything thats irish cuz i am irish after all. 😁)
I didn't know he was Irish actually, thanks for letting me know! I thought he was the L&YR class 28 though?!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
James is indeed a modified L&YR Class 28. Still, the resemblance to that Irish engine is uncanny. If only it was painted red!
@@TheUglyDuckman right, and James was painted black in the book version of Thomas And The Breakdown Train, if I remember correctly. I don't remember, it's been a while since I've read it.
Good review. I have purchased a few second hand Bachmann locomotives in the past and they aren't that bad in quality. Although I have had a new toy to play with from Christmas which Oxford Diecast which is the Janus 0-6-0 diesel in the striking bright blue BP livery.
Thanks a lot ben - yeah they're certainly not too bad most of the time - glad you got a Janus too - I picked one up as well, but not opened it yet... saving it for the review!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam, yes Bachmann have done a Lms version- I'm the proud owner of one!! Terry. Ps happy new year to you!!
Thanks Terry - I've found a couple on Hatton's now - I've been very sorely tempted by them! :D
Happy new year,
Sam :)
I saw the Ivatt in BR Green down on the Swanage Railway a few months ago when the Flying Scotsman was visiting. Not that ugly an engine when you see it up close.
Ooh very lovely! Is that so?? Glad to hear they look better in real life! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam, and hope your having a cool yule :)
Only 3 Ivatt 4's were built under the LMS, and they carried the LMS 1945 'austerity' livery like that on your rebuilt Royal Scott. However the first 50 built all were fitted with double chimneys, but the double chimney wasn't that good so in 1951-54 all were rebuilt with the standard single chimney. As I dont think Bachmann do the early double stack version one of these in LMS livery wouldn't be correct. (although a good kit basher could probably convert one into the original LMS condition)
As for being ugly... well I prefer the term functional, they were built under wartime and post war austerity conditions so stuff like steel was in limited supply so anything that wasn't functional was left off. As a result, although they woud never win a beauty contest they certainly looked like they meant business!
And my favourate Ivatt loco is the Fell experimental diesel, a not very successful loco, but a distinctive design with an interesting history. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_10100
Jon
Thanks a lot for the info Jon - blimey only 4 built under lms? Didn't know that! I think functional is definitely a very good word too!
Happy new year mate,
Sam :)
Good review Sam. I do like the Ivatt Class 4's looks, it's a good mix of American and British looks I think. Also, happy new year!
Thanks Patrick - me too, it definitely has that mixed look to it for sure! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I have both the ivatt class 2 and 4, although my class 4 has the double chimney which is what they had when first built. Have had them nearly 9 years and they have worked faultlessly!
That sounds awesome! I didn't realise they had the double chimneys!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
She doesnt look the best, but she certainly looks like she can do a good job though! Great vid Sam
Ooh definitely - certainly a great runner, if not a beautiful model! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The one preserved is on the seven valley railway running number 43106 in br black, I went to see it today, and I adore the engine, if I get one of these models I will be modifying the running number to that number
Very cool, it's a nice engine in person then?? That sounds like a great project! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam,
I love pretty much all off Henry & Gorge Ivatt's creations, my favorite would be the class 2 Tank, which is basicly a Tank engine version of the class 2.
Thanks Tom - I do too, I've always enjoyed the look of them, especially the class 2! :D
Happy new year,
Sam :)
I still can't believe that people want to compare James to this locomotive! He's a Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Mogul. I don't know if he is a class 08.
haha I know! I guess it does look similar from a distance, being a mogul!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Bachmann have done ones in LMS livery I think as I remember seeing them once
Ooh fantastic - I'd love to get one, I'll look them up! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains there's a couple of them in LMS livery on Ebay right now including one example which has a double chimney.
Good level of detail in my opinion, looks very 'industrial'. I don't worry about painted cabs too much.
Thanks a lot Ian - it certainly does! That's fair enough - I suppose it does pull the price down!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Nice little engine. I got a corgi Sunderland flying boat and limited edition Q1 for Christmas. I can send you some photos if you want.
Thanks so much mate, ooh sounds fantastic - yes please, I'd love that! :D
Happy new year,
Sam :)
The motor on my one of these literally just burnt out after some ten years service XD God damn it Emeris!! (thats what I named it by the way). Do you know of any sites that have spare motors Sam?
Unfortunately Bachmann use proprietary motors in their models (I think) so you'd have to buy one from them - they charge around £20 for them I think, which is obviously quite insane!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
i cannot find out how to get the body off?
It’s a very nice model, though a not very attractive prototype. I much prefer the Ivatt 2s, got a few of the Bachmann variants, lovely things. I did notice that you made a small detailing mistake, or whoever owned the model before you made said mistake, that being that the back vacuum pipe is on the front and vice versa, see this quite a bit with the Ivatt models, people putting on the vacuum pipes back to front.
Thanks a lot mate, yes I agree with that - I still need to review the Class 2!
Ahh very well spotted - I had no idea - I don't ever fit the detail if it comes separately, so the previous owner is the guilty one! ;)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The cab looks the same as the Swedish Staterailways steam loco class F 1200 it has a pointed smoke box door.
You can Google SJ Lit 1200. Lit is the same as your class on steam locos.
There a one F1200 class loco in a railway museum and its in very good runing condition.
And it pulls pass cars on special trains.
The F1200 is a beautiful loco, it is too bad that heljan has stoped making this loco.
I love the Ivatts they are beautiful .
Very interesting! I will google that - thank you! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Hey Sam, 32-575 is an LMS liveried version.
Thank you! :D I'll check that out!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Nice look at this loco, on a side note, really like the multi-camera shooting, nice touch without being too much! If you don;t mind, what cameras did you shoot on this video?
Thanks very much John! I use the Nikon D750, only one of them - I just repeat the process multiple times from different angles so I can cut things down, and produce a nice tidy video!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Thank Sam!. That's a really great job of it on the camera work, I really thought it was multi-camera. John
Today is my birthday! and I got the Hornby flying Scotsman train set!
Happy birthday mate, have an amazing time!! :D
Happy new year,
Sam :)
Wonderful review Sam!
Is that green 2MT the Bachmann version or the older Hornby one? I have the Bachmann 2MT in LMS black and I adore it. It is the very locomotive that got me into the hobby - I'd love to see what you think of the Bachmann version in a review!
Thanks so much mate - the one I showed in the video is a more modern Bachmann one, though I do have a couple of the old Hornby ones! I do still need to review the Bachmann version!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great review Sam of a unique looking loco but my preference is for the Ivatt class 2. Be well and keep safe, regards Gary.
Thanks Gary - yeah me too actually - I love the Class 2! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Such a beautiful engine! I'm going to try and get one of these, though it's going to be difficult since I live in the U.S.
Thanks a lot mate - I hope you are able to find one! :3
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I think the Reason Why the 4mt has an high Runningplate is due too maintenance and to make lubricating easier. I think
Yeah I seem to remember reading that too, I think you're right! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I prefer this one in BR green to be frank, but this is a lovely one.
Thanks mate - did Bachmann do this in Br green?? :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Been a while Sam. So just saying there is a pure black LMS bachmann model of the Ivatt class 4. Though it does have next to no extra detailing, at east from the images that the site shows. I like the design of the Ivatt Class 2 better, but I wouldn't say this girl is ugly. The Q1 ain't exactly a looker, but that's not why the engines are fascinating are they now. So is there anything specific you are looking forward to in 2019 for both Hornby and Bachmann. Also a request, have you done a review on the WD Austerity Bachmann have made, it would be cool to see one. There was a Lord Nelson, Jubilee, N2, The black tender engine looked like a K1/3. Odd one out was probably the N2 since it was the only tank engine. Looking forward to the quality content this year in 2019
Cheers
Avi
Hey Avi, welcome back - and yes I've seen that LMS version now - it looks very tempting! I'm really looking forward to the 0-6-0 Pecketts now, that's awesome!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam, great video! Love the channel, just a thought, maybe you could say where some of the locos are currently if preserved? I realise this creates more effort for you, so understand this could be asking too much, but it gives us an idea of where to see them if we were interested! I believe this one is currently at the Severn Valley Railway! Thanks
Thanks a lot Marcus, really glad you like the channel! Yes I can certainly try to include that info in future - thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam, great engine and review as always! This video reminded me of the Dapol 4MT Mogul kit, and I was wondering if you would be interested in something like that. I think it would make for a different video, something out of the ordinary. What do you think?
Thanks a lot mate - ooh that sounds very interesting, it certainly would make for a good video! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Bachmann had the Ivatt Class 4MT in LMS listed in their 2018 catalogue..
Yeah! I notice they're still being sold new - time for an update I reckon! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
LMS livery is available. Seen a few on ebay recently. Not checked Hattons yet
Ahh fantastic - glad to hear they're actually out there! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The one in presevation is currentley on the severn vally railway and tbh i think they look quite buisness like in a good way. a real work horse
Thanks for the info on that Daniel, and yes indeed - they do look very business like! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hey Sam do you have a problem with your hornby engines’ trucks because my hornby James’ the inner plastic keeps falling out of the metal band on the outside
Ahh sorry to hear that - yes I've had that issue with some of the Hornby thomas models - it should be possible to re-attach them and glue them in place, but if you're worried about doing it, contact Hornby and they should be able to help!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Thanks Sam I think I might glue them myself because this model is from 2006 so I don’t think they would do anything and I also bought it used
I'm probably going to say that the N2 is the odd one out
It was indeed - well spotted! :D
Happy new year,
Sam :)
Happy New Year, Sam!
Happy new year to you too! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great review Sam. So is the the last review of 2018, pretty much? :)
Thanks a lot mate - yes this is the last review :(
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
i'd love to get my hands on an ivatt class, only problem is that bachmann u.k are hard as sin to buy/find in the u.s...
Sorry to hear that mate - check the link in the description though, Hatton's will ship to the US! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I had an LMS one fm Bachmann. Sold it to Hattons in April. They may still have it!?😊 Ugliness..... same league as Bullied's Q1?
Thanks for the comment David - I actually found some LMS ones on Hatton's, but they were new I beleive!
haha possibly a little less ugly than the Q1, but not far off! ;D
Happy new year,
Sam :)
I have so many questions of how and why it looks so ugly so I will minimize it to 3.1,why is the running board so small I never knew it was there until now.2,why is there gaps between the steps on the sides of the smoke box and above the driving wheels.3,how are people going to use the steps on the running board.
haha!! Very good questions - I have no idea, I confess! xD
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Rails of Sheffield are selling Bachmann Ivatt 4MT LMS version of this for £69.50 new today!
Latest version does not have a painted cab, but £69.50 is a bargain.

I really don’t understand why “people” (definitely not you Sam!) think these locos are ugly. I think it’s very handsome... but then my wife thought I was mad when I said Jimmy Nail was handsome!
Yeah you're right Jim - fantastic value for money there!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Again a great review of a really beautiful steam loco.
Thank you Norbert! :D
Hi Sam. There's something about model trains that I think I should ask an expert.
Why do most HO scale engine or pretty much any model train go smoother backwards than forwards? Is it a motor thing, or is there something else?
Thanks!
Same thing here, seems to be common.
@@dylan_conductor I know right? I've seen it on a few of my old locomotives, I don't know what causes it
haha really?? I don't know about that - It's very strange! To be fair though, I have quite a few that run better forwards than backwards - so I guess it's just down to how they wear!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Cool. Happy New Year!
Thanks Matthew, happy new year to you too! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
They do have these engines in LMS livery, though its in black. Also the engine was nicknamed "flying pigs". wonder why,,
Thanks for that Tyler, I'd love to try and get one! haha I can kind of see why ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I have always liked these 2-6-0 locomotives.
I can definitely see why - there's something about them! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Really nice review on the Ivan class 4 Sam .
Thanks so much mate, glad you liked it! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Happy new year sam and people in the internet and there is only two ways for doing this the great Eastern way or the wrong way or The Great western way or the wrong way happy new year everybody 😂
haha yes indeed!! Thanks for the comment, and Happy new Year! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The linkage looks amazing
I agree - it really does! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains welcome
Why am I imagining this to have a 2-8-0 instead of a 2-6-0?
I did not notice how much pipework this loco had!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know!! It's super impressive! :D
Happy new year,
Sam :)
Again a very nice model!
Thank you Marco! :D
I find these austerity locos very appealing...as much as the flashier stuff. It was criminal how these were scrapped when still relatively new. Bachmann did a LMS version btw.
Thanks Sam for your great videos. Do you also work full time or study?
Me too actually Craig - there's definitely a time and a place for them! I'm lucky enough to be doing RUclips full time now!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great video Sam really enjoyed it a lot!
Thanks again Arthur, that's very kind of you! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Nice mate! The ivatt looks similar to the swedish B locomotive!
Thanks mate! I'll have to look those up ! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)

Sam Buy Hornby Lms Princess Coronation Class Sir William A. Stanier F.R.S (With TTS Sound).
Those do look amazing - but just so expensive :(
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
kinda looks like they tried to make these for other country's that rear window part on the tender very odd part to have on an engine,
Yeah it does - it doesn't look like a very British loco! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I wish model trains weren’t so expensive
