I'm sure you already know this, but PetSmart and Petco price match Chewy as long as you bring it up on your phone and show the cashier it's the same product.
oh dangit I wanted to mention that! although unfortunately my local petsmart refuses to match even their own websites prices (I even asked the manager...) but yes, at petco, I can't tell you how much I've saved with price matching ;)
Wow, I did not know this!!
I had no idea! Pretty cool
Niceeee and yea petco is awesome i just got a new tank for my turtles for sale :)
You prolly dont care but does anybody know a trick to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
I always buy my pet supplies online. Its soooo much cheaper and Chewy is THE best!!
What website or app would you say is the cheapest
All my birthday money would go to my little turtle Tony.I'll have to wait for that but he'll get a good, big aquarium
Good for you! I do the same thing :-)
I'm 11 and have been RESEARCHING for 4 years now and I'm saving up alot I have 200 saved up and I get 20 a month for doing chores and I need to pay for vet Bill's and stuff my turtle needs so I need to save more and more
This is so helpful I own two turtles and I try to pay everything for them.
Save your heat bulb receipts when you buy them so when they burn out you can go back to the pet store and get it exchanged so you don't have to spend extra cash on a new bulb I believe you can do it twice before they can't exchange your bulb but by then you should have more then enough to pay for another.
Edit: great video girly keep up the great content👌
Interesting! I've never heard that one before, I'll have to look into it! Thanks Chris :)
@@TheTurtleGirl np it's super useful tip especially when it comes to the more expensive 80-100watt repti bulbs
I love the Penn plax turtle topper!! I have 2 of them. They will last a long time and the turtles love them. Very stable and provides more swimming space!
It's working great so far :-) Thanks Hannah!
So true! I like finding deals, but I tend to buy new equipment because a) sellers usually don't clean their equipment and b) DIY projects sometimes take too much time that I don't have. One time I bought a canister filter from a Craigslist seller that seemed pretty clean on the outside and even came with the original box. When I got home and opened up the filter, I discovered the horrible stench of rotting saltwater gunk inside and had to spend many hours disassembling, scrubbing, bleaching, rinsing multiple times, and drying the individual components over the course of weeks. Never again!
It pays to check before you buy! I'm sure you learned that the hard way 😅
Yes, for sure!
Great information. Its good to see how much you take ownership of the hobby. And taking great care of your pets/little family members.
haha thank you!
I subscribed to your channel a week ago and I love it.
Yes!!!! You got him the basking area!!! Awesome!!!
Amazing video!
Thanks! He's loving it LOL
Turtle girl, I got a brand new Marineland Magniflow 220 on Amazon for $77. The local Pet Supplies Plus had it for $139. So did PETCO and PetSmart. I'm in Indianapolis. I also had an Amazon gift card from Christmas and the total came down to $55. I love this canister. It is super quiet and has 4 filter trays. It's only been running since 12/30 and needs to build up some good biome but the water is crystal clear and actually smells good. I also run a 5.0 UVB compact light and a 75W basking spot. My three hatchling sliders are doing great. They are already shedding some skin. They are probably three months old now. I also have been using spring water at $.89 a gallon which is starting to cost me. I'll begin to use tap water and condition it. Turtles are not fish. i don't think they will mind.
This is a great video it really helps most of my money goes towards my turtles
I LOVE this video! I always try to express when it's important to invest in something quality, and when you can DIY something real quick :)
yes! Evaluate and prioritize ;)
good advice
Great video! I’m on a budget 😂 and I’m getting my turtle soon so thank you 😊
I'm rescuing a slider from poor conditions and I knew I needed uvb, heat bulb, water heater filter- mostly the basics, however you have helped me build my ramp, teach me to buy variety of foods etc. Thank you so much! I think she will be so much happier
really happy to hear that!
Great tips! Definitely saved me some cash and time!
Good info turtle girl!🐢😊

What a great video! I love my diy and alternatives :)
Thanks Dea!
Nice tips! Regarding the price of online vs in-store, Petsmart carries the Aquaeon Water Change System (knock-off of the python) for around 70 something dollars... Amazon has it for 20 something. Pro tip - My PetSmart price matched Amazon when I told them I'd just buy it online.
I’m literally sitting in my porch waiting for my turtle to arrive Truth the mail lol! I’m just rewatching all the amazing videos!
thank you for the info
Great tips turtle girl😊😊
Can you please do a guppy care video love your videos you're a huge inspiration
I will follow you!! Any time I get any money it goes to Mr turtle and tink tink ,tink is my dog...
That's awesome! Everything for the pets LOL
My chihuahua was named tinker.. I called her tink tink.. RIP tinker.. I miss her
Nice saving money is always good.
I find price often shys people away from the hobby. Great tips 👍
I got most of my turtle equipment from resale shops like goodwill and St Vincent De Paul (lights, tank, and decor). The river rocks I use I got from Dollar Tree (1 pound = $1) and even my turtle dock (Penn Plax The Reptology Large Turtle Pier - Large) I bought new from wal-mart for less than $15! (free ship to store). I even built a edging out of thin acrylic ($20 with free cutting at Lowe's) that fits inside the inner lip of the black edging so I could increase the water level all the way to the top and Paula (my turtle's name) cant escape. Side not about the edging, it's really funny watching her pulling herself up over the top of the tank to look at me!
I like to keep an eye at thrift stores too, but the reason I didn't mention them is because of the actual likelihood of finding stuff (other than tanks, which are usually 20 gallons or smaller anyway). Nevertheless, awesome tips! I like your resourcefulness ^-^
Love it
Cool video!! 😁
Great Video Turtle Girl =)
another good example of the difference between buying online and instore is that the zoo med UVB and heat lighting lamp dome with bulbs is 37.99 on chewy and at my local petsmart it’s 69.99! almost TWICE as much as it is on chewy! i know a lot of people say “oh you forgot the costs for shipping” but an amazing thing chewy does is if your order is $50+ shipping is free!
I hope to own a turtle someday!
Owning pets can be very expensive!
Great video! And great tips!
haha no joke, all my money goes to my pets lol
But once you bring them home and into the family you will see that they are worth it but it is good to shop wisely.
On my opinion above tank basking areas are literally like the best things for turtles!
yes! they are awesome!
Don’t know how I’ve never seen your videos as I love turtles and own one myself. I clicked subscribe real quick!
Thank you! What kind of turtle?
The Turtle Girl she’s a common Red Eared Slider but she wasn’t an impulse buy I actually wanted one for a very long time and I bought her entire set up and food before I actually bought her. I’ve had her 6 years now and in that short time she’s gone from a hatchling to full a shell about 6 inches from top to bottom. I can’t wait to see her grow more 🐢🤗
So awesome! Love to hear that you're a long time keeper :)
Hi turtle girl I am going to get a diamondback terrapin. I am wondering when to put crushed coral in her tank. Like how old should the diamondback be before I start adding coral? Thanks so much for your videos. I love watching.
I love turtles ur such s good RUclipsr
Thank you!
I’ve been eyeing that basking spot for a while now, I’m definitely going to get it. My turtle has been becoming quite the escape artist lately though, have you noticed any possible escape routes when you have that and the water all the way up
Haha, hope you don't have a Houdini on your hands 😂 as far as the basking area itself, it's very secure, and he wouldn't be able to use the ramp to get to the side edge of the tank. And so far (it's been a few weeks) he hasn't been able to reach the edge of the tank even when the water is high. Hope this helps!
turtles are one of the best aquatic pets!
Thanks for the video TurtleGirl, I like your new basking area. I was thinking about getting the Penn Plax Large Turtle Pier, but it's open, and my two baby RES are extremely shy. I was wondering what sizes they have of your dock, to fit my turtle bin in which the Dimensions are: 33"long, 20"wide, and 13" high... I keep the water level at around 7" deep, is that to deep for them what maximum depth would u recommend? Thanks in advance.
Sliders are generally great swimmers, so if you have tall decorations that reach the surface, I would fill it up more - just to give them more space to swim. However, since the water level is also low and they are still babies, you could also get the turtle pier and have it work just fine. In the end it's up to you :)
whats all conditioner you use? like every name and all stuff you use, because my platy fish keeps dying for some reason and im using aquaclear from tetra
Your videos help me a lot, thanks. I’m planning to buy a canister filter, is it a good idea? This video made me think about maybe getting the filter you have, instead of canister, should I stick with Fluval 106?
I love canisters and actually use one on my larger tank for Nemo, it's the cascade 1000 canister. Reasonably priced and works great :) The only thing is that you should get some sort of aeration if you're using a canister, just because a protein film can build up on the surface of the water if you don't. ;)
The Turtle Girl wow, Never knew about that, thank you
I got to thinking, it would be sketchy, but I could probably make a filter out of a siphon, lol.
I don't have filter so I clean my 50 gallon turtle tank every 2nd day or maybe 3rd.
Any suggestion
A for Ashish I would really recommend you get a filter. You can find them for around 20 dollars. Turtles produce a lot of waste and can get poisoned from being stuck in a dirty tank.
Did u get the medium or the fine black diamond abrasive? I don’t want to get the wrong one
What do you use to film and edit?? I loved this video! I have a yellow bellied slider!
Final cut pro x for editing, I film with a Panasonic g85 ;)
The Turtle Girl thank you!
My turtles are my kids. I now have 4 inc. 2 western paitnted turtles. THe problem I have is the cloudiest water on the planet. 2 large filters on the 40 gal tank. This is the 1 that I have problems with. The pet store says it's bacteria & after 6 weeks things will recycle. The aquarium store has been bleeding me in my wallet with all the additives but NONE work. From the best product to the cheapest. I'm 80 yo. & these turtles are my only life. I don't want to give them who can't take care . Please help. I can't physically drain the water every other day. Keep up the GREAT work. I look forward in your tips.
Ive been looking for a 500 watt heater for my tank. Found it on amazing for $29. So o checked petco and petsmart and the price was $50-$60 I was like wth!!!!!! So this is true.
What wattage heat bulb and uvb bulb are you using w the turtle topper. Also how do you fit both on top?
They're in a double dome, and I believe it's 50 watts? Could be 75 though, I'm not sure...
We love a good shameless plug
My daughter Candace the turtle lady that asked about her eastern painted turtle Chloe and how to get her to eat a variety wants to ask if it's best to keep her turtles out side during the winter or bring them inside?
Unless it stays fairly warm outside where you are, I would recommend bringing them inside over the winter.
I shop at chewy most of the time. For my African sideneck turtle.
What is the total budget for a red eared slider and the tank with the filter, basking spot and the heater
I have been watching your channel, love your videos, I had $500 saved up for getting a turtle and, screwed up big time, played for it and now I am broke so... Yea
Hey hey miss turtle what turtles are more friendly because I heard some run towards you that would be so cool 🐢☁️☁️☁️
Subscribed 😁
Both Petco and Petsmart price match Amazon 😁
hi,can i use spondge filter in turtle tank
sure, but I would suggest something far more powerful as the main filter.
"offerup" is also a good place to buy used tanks and its more safer.
Hi turtle girl but do u know how much a used 75 gal tank can cost
Can you make a video of how often to bathe painted turtles??Pls?
Is there a video on how you made the diy basking area?
Yep! ruclips.net/video/ZjY3DqvNJvc/видео.html
I have a question do I get my turtle a UVB light and a heat light?
Yes! You need both!
What about UVA? I seen a video that said you need a UVA and UVB light. And heater for the water.
Can u plz talk more about hatchling cooter turtle
On eBay I found all the things I need for my baby turtle that I am getting it only came to $30 dollars is that good or bad 🧐
Well....that number is definitely low and you might want to evaluate the quality of stuff you'll be getting. If it doesn't work well or last, it might not be worth it.
My turtle stopped basking suddenly and it's staying 24 hours under water .what to do😟
Hey I have a 2.5 inch river cooter. I was thinking of using cuttlebone but I don’t know how much to use how to use it could you make a vid on it or at least put a link on a good video
That's an awesome suggestion! I'll definitely put that one on the schedule 😁
The Turtle Girl thanks for being so nice and sweet 😁😁
what type of turtle do u have back there?
I have you as some kind of master, I've been watching you since yesterday, because I wanted to do research, I'm buying a Red-eared slider maybe even tommorow! can you give me some quick tips?
My #1 tip for anyone getting a slider is get the largest tank and filtration system you can accommodate. It'll be a LOT less maintenance in the long run. Also, don't stress if the turtle doesn't eat or bask right away, it takes time to adjust.
Thank you!
Did you get A in every subject this semester?
WHERE’S THE BASKING AREA
😂😂😂
Woah I didn't know that u were a teen I thought you were an adult xD
I have spent a lot of money in the last month these little guys are a pleasure to have but they are a little expensive if you don't shop wisely.
What type of turtle you have ?
Replied to your other comment :)
I just started watching your show so I'm sorry if this already happened but are you ever going to show your parents on camera
First? Ok nvm
Ayyy #notificationsquad
My turtle is still not eating it’s been two weeks
How long ago did you get it again? And have you tried the tuna water?
Yes I tried tuna fish and it didn’t work but I got mealworms for it just now and it ate a few thankyou so much for the help and I got it two weeks ago her names cleo
@@ajanisams6457 it's probably just shy right now. Mine didn't eat the same way but now they will beg for food whenever someone is near haha
Hey I don't know if u will see this comment but I just got a new baby turtle and you have helped me learn how to care for my turtles also shout me out Gabe Anderson ur my favorite RUclipsr 🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢
Are you ready for college sorry for being off topic
lol nope! Highschool is already enough
Can you sell me your old basking area because I don’t have 1 with 2 baby turtles
where are you located? It's also very easy to make your own, I don't think it would be worth it to ship!
The Turtle Girl I live in sc
Omg buying a turtle costs nearly as much as my dog did because how much there stuff cost
i have one more tip just buy a big plastic tub and its very cheap seriously it only cost me 10 dollars for a 150 gallon tub
Don't be so concerned with idiot commenters. Be more confident. I watch your videos ritually, and notice that you try to justify this or that now and then....don't do that. You are now in the position to speak on care and be confident about it.
wHeRE Is tHE bASKiNg sPot
lol honestly all the basking spot comments kill me 😂
My turtles gonna cost more than my dog did I think
