In this video I show how tax time is hitting our used car lot.
My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.

Too many people treat their tax refund as free money. We all know it's just an interest-free loan of your money to the government, but it seems like that's the only savings plan they can stick to, then they immediately spend it all as soon as it hits their bank account.

Remember you sell cars around 5k, 5k cars will always sell well since people need vehicles to go from point A to point B. The ones that will not sell well is 10k and up since those are the ones people will need to get loans exc. If people can pay cash those will sell but the ones that need financing will not sell since banks are not lending.

I find myself nodding along to many of the insights shared in this video. The notion that indiscriminately buying inventory without discerning deals is currently impractical resonates with me. Given the slow pace of car sales leading up to tax season, it's logical to anticipate a similar trend post-tax time. While the economy isn't in dire straits, it's evident that consumers are prioritizing necessity over luxury, likely opting for purchases that don't add to their monthly financial burdens. This leads me to believe that more affordable vehicles will see a rise in demand, as families seem to be steering clear of commitments that could strain their budgets further. It's a cautious approach reflective of the times, and it's fascinating to see how these dynamics play out in the used car market, as highlighted by the experiences shared in the video.

The reason you are doing well is simple. Price point.
The potential downside for your customers is the cost of fixing a high mileage beater.

This time of the year is when the reputation you have developed either pays off of bites you in the butt. People do business with names that are top of mind. I sold cars for two years all together at about three different dealerships. It was a VERY hard way to make a living!!!! It was feast or famine and management was always on our ass. Plus the customers were rude and combative toward myself and my associates. I take my hat off to anyone that can do it for a sustained time and make a career out of it. Alot of paperwork and alot of stress. And you better be a people person or it will not work. Keep up good work Brando.

Yeah, tax season has been much worse for a lot of us, at least the ones who are honest when filing. Many people aren't filing honestly, so of course its gonna be good for a ton of people. I dont think anyone that was saying this tax season would suck were taking that into account.

Dealer in Northeast. Tax time later. Hondas and Toyotas from $ 9500 to $27,000. 8 economy cars around $10,000. More economy cars coming from garage not ready yet.
Guess what: Many buyers haven't bought in 7 years. Only want SUVs. Can't afford to buy for more than $10,000. SUVs we have are $17,000+. These buyers NOT INTERESTED in sedans.
Others who have more $$$ are interested but being picky because other dealers have inventory due to slowing economy. We don't finance so it is difficult because people can come up with $5,000 relatively easily but not $10,000.
Are two repair shops are slow because around here people are frugal and are waiting for tax time (later) to due maintenance on cars.
We get alot of repeat / referral business but higher insurance costs are keeping some people on the sidelines.

Looks like you need a decent & quick suction cup mount for your camera. Just hold the mount for your selfies, but you can super quickly suction it to the hood/window/whatever of a car so it'll stay put when you need both hands. They're pretty cheap and definitely worth it. Also good for doing videos while your driving (slap it up on the front/passenger window inside).

I find it completely sad that people need the government to be they're piggy bank. Money back from a tax return is an overpayment of your taxes. You collect no interest when the government saves your money for you. There are ways of figuring out what you owe and making sure that you pay very close to that amount. Then you just save the money yourself and go buy a car when you have enough money saved.
