In this video you will get to see what car dealers are actually paying for their cars and trucks at auction!

I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.

$30k for a 200k mile truck? What a joke, that should be a $13k truck.
And it's an American make, no less.
7500k for me , old school car dealer here , bidding a truck over the phone
$3,500 tops
Drop in a replacement engine and transmission, bearings
. Bobs your uncle
Sucker born every day
Before I left my job in a local auto shop. I noticed a lot more people were coming in to fix up their older cars during tax season than before
Jeep sales aren't down because their customers can't get loans, but because they have gone to upmarket pricing and people won't pay Range Rover prices for a Jeep.
Yes, nothing in the Jeep line up would inspire me to upgrade my TJ
They shouldn't pay Range Rover prices for a Range Rover.
@@marksmith8928Buy a Toyota Land Cruiser if you want that.
And the safety ratings aren't as good as older models. Price went up, value/ quality down.
The industry term is High Line. And yeah, it's insanity, glad I don't sling domestics anymore - the manufacturers jumped off the deep end.
$30k for a truck with 204k mi.... who the hell would buy that used?
Creative titling and odometer mechanics will have that ol girl at 90k, one owner when it hits the lot.😂
Where are you see it was grandma’s truck and she only drove it to the grocery store on Saturday and the church on Sunday. The reason why she needed that big truck was when she went to the store on Saturday. It was only once a month.
Bruh what is the customer going to pay. Wtfffff
Lol that truck was $80k new 3 years ago. I just sold a ram 3500HD with the same miles for $32k last week. People will pay $50k for this ford easy
Should be 12k
New car lots in Ohio can’t sell the new cars ! 40 percent of the cars on fords lots are ev s. And 100k trucks no one wants them !!
Go find a limited f250 h.o hmm yeah there not there people are buying them you just need to be heavy duty trucks
People do want those $100K bro-dozers....but they want to pay $40K for them. That's the problem.
@@MrSloikaaccording to your argument, are you saying that the market does not or should not dictate the price? Yes, those trucks are worth 40k if no one is willing to pay more or maybe they overshot their projections. Wake the fup and have a good day.
WOW! The EV trucks are terrible in the cold temps you see in the north. I think you folks are still having very cold temperatures up there in Ohio, Iowa, and Michigan. An ICE engine is proven to handle the Northern weather. Take care.
@@MrSloika This literally means the trucks are worth $40k if the market values them as such.
Tax time now a days is you get to pay. Not get anything back. If you're lucky enough to get something back, splurge and buy groceries.
Just pay off the car you have with the tax money
I either buy ammunition or silver with mine. Not much else worth investing with 550 bucks.
I got a bill on one and a return on the other and my total profit this year is 7$
@@chriswood9836 That won't get you a hamburger at McDonald's in today's economy.
Abunch of overpriced junk.
Yup.
Correct
In 1980 the median family income was ~$21,000 and the average model new automobile cost was ~$7,000 dollars.
Today, the average household income is $78,000 and the average model new automobile cost is ~$46,000 dollars.
If a new automobile just kept pace with inflation, it should now cost ~$26,000 dollars not ~$48,000 dollars.
Cars last longer now. I bought a new car in 1980 and it lasted 80k miles
1980 cars didn't have anti-lock, dual zone AC, keyless entry/start, infotainment systems, fuel injection, heated seats, back-up cameras etc, etc. My father's first new car was a 1965 Ford Falcon. Manual steering, manual trans, manual choke, manual brakes (drums all around), roll-up windows, no AC. That car cost the equivalent of $18K in today's money. You couldn't give away a new car like that today. Yes, cars cost more today because you get a lot more. That's what customers demand now and will not even consider a stripped down model.
@@MrSloika yes, and most of that bs is outsourced not to mention reduced cost through manufacturing processes and last most of this extra crap isn't worth paying for nor is it optional. Your argument is trash.
@@MrSloika You get a lot more crap that breaks and other crap no one needs. Open your eyes.
There are new family cars out there for $26k - base Camry and Accord, Civic, Hyundais, etc. There’s stuff out there, but the luxury suv and truck market has such high prices, it shifts that average price way up. The good news is you don’t need to replace a new car every 5 years like you used to.
I think too many car dealers got addicted to overcharging customers and can not make an adjustment. The market is gonna do it for them and just like an addict, they are gonna crash and burn. Greed must be tempered by economic realities.
Same thing happened with the coin dealers too. Greed.
You're doing it wrong. Irresponsible little people "consumers" have gotten too used to getting government money-printer hand-outs, and now THEY can't make the adjustments to homelessness, joblessness, and starvation.
$30,000 for a truck with 200k miles? Dear God
Crazy..I'd never
Should be $25k new with zero miles on it.
No word if that truck actually sold.
@@dilligafmofokerI think it was put on a phone call. The moment someone offered that much for that truck they should have said yes.

"Last couple years have gone downhill...." Gee! I wonder why that happened. Can't believe that F-250 was on a phone call for $30k with 207k miles. Ridiculous!
I can't believe that crv sold for $8800. No way the dealer is gonna make money on that crv. It's probably another $500 to get it cleaned up and detailed
Dude!!! There are absolute SUCKAS out there would will buy a crapped out Honda or Toyota for ASTRONOMICAL prices. They're so "dependable" even when they break down
😂🤣😅
I've noticed very few dealer tags in my area recently. Cars aren't selling like they were
When stealerships and corporations stop price gouging, then people will buy cars. Freaking greed is out of control
Price gouging is the result of a large number of buyers willing to pay anything for their products
@@raiden031 You can't fix stupid.
If inflation keeps rising, they won't. Its just not only greed, its the dollar de valuating and takes more dollars to buy less. I think most are oblivious to the bleak financial state of the U.S. dollar and take for granted it will stay king of the hill. It can't, not with unrestrained govt. spending and printing. It not if but when.
Only worth what someone is willing to pay….
Um, interest rates need to go higher because too many dumb people are buying expensive vehicles which just encourages manufacturers to continue making expensive vehicles. When people stop paying high prices - then prices will lower.
I’ve been thinking of buying a newer used vehicle for the last 5 years-I guess I can wait longer. My Accord has 266k miles and still runs great 😎!
Just think about all the money you're saving. Every year you keep driving that car the original price you pay gets less and less. Keep up the maintenance and keep the wheels rolling.
Same here. Have my 2006 Accord Sedan with 5-speed manual, 177k miles, and still running great.
Wait as long as you possibly can; this is just the start of cars not selling…it is going to get very interesting…I am not optimistic: politically, economically, or safety.
I bought a 2004 Pontiac Vibe with a manual in 2014. It's a little rough around the edges, and I've been thinking of upgrading ever since. Lately, though, I'm beginning to think that for what I want, I already have the ideal vehicle.
My daily beater is a 95 Acura Integra 5spd with 276k miles that I had since 2001. And I used race that car hard in my youth. There are few cars that can hold up that well.
Brandon did well during tax season because he sells in the $5000 and below niche. Those dealers who sell in higher niches of the market are struggling. Maybe the tax refunds are a little smaller this year.
Absolutely Right 😊
Mine was by almost $1k versus last year, I compared them.
Agree! Mine was much less.
Tax refunds are going to collections and debt accrued from inflation lol
Wonder why?
not enough cops around to arrest the plants and trees for openly pollinating.
Let's go Brandon!
They defunded them😂🤣😅
And what about the gay trees! 🌳
They would be right back out with no bond.
I enjoy your conversations with other dealers. More of that please.
Agreed. Good job Brandon.
That Ford truck was driven about 200 miles per day everyday for 3 years😮
Highway miles are the best kind of miles🎉
Hotshot?
Construction trucks driven by supervisors or managers on long transmission lines projects. I put 65k in one year but some other trucks had as much as 85-90k miles per year, 75% highway miles.
Can’t say the same for trucks driven by superintendents or GFs.
Probably a lot more than 200 miles as that assumes it was driven 365 days a year. So, I'd say it was closer to at least 300 miles a day. And at that point the driving is much of the work, which is not necessarily a scenario EVs will need to replace. If EVs take over much of the rest of the market, then there could be many fewer gas stations - making heavy duty pickups less useful and affordable to fuel. So, more of this long-haul usage might shift back to rail. Some could shift to long haul tractor trailers. And some might remain as is. EVs can be a great product even if they never can replace all current ICE vehicle usage.
I got rid of my home's wood stove even though my furnace can't heat the house in a power outage. It is a bit frustrating to have videos that imply EVs have a problem because they can't handle every scenario that ICE vehicles can.

They put hub caps over the Prius rim for gas milage and airodynamics. I used to have a 2012 Prius and I asked Toyota that same question. And this is what I was told

The Fed wont lower rates until something breaks, either the stock market or a Globally Significant Bank(GSIB) your channel is my refreshment break from the finance news. Dont expect rate cuts - Japan went from negative to positive two days ago, rates are going up to stave off 70's style inflation. Soon the punters have to decide between the house and the car. This has been building since 2008. Sorry.
Unfortunately, I have to 100% agree with you. People are worried about keeping their home and job, only the dedicated idiots, happily ignorant, or wealthy are buying new vehicles in this global crisis. I am really concerned about what will occur over the next 8 months. Fingers crossed.
You r right
The kicker is the insolvency crisis people can't afford rates the bank gets stuck with the bad debt. In 1980 bought my first home for $15500 average home cost in my neighborhood is 700 000 that kind of debt is unserviceable at 15% which means a market crash which means Banks crash. Catch 22 the correction is inevitable pick your poison inflation a slow death or Jack the interest rates for a quick correction which means crash
I have a whole new layer to put on that. I am in Australia, our inflation is 3.5-4 ish percent. Way to high! But, our rates are still 5.9% ish and homes are almost the most expensive in the world, (3Br single home-$800K!!!) nearly all loans are variable, not fixed, they need to put rates up but the mortgagee's are really feeling the squeeze, if we drop rates, our currency crash's against the $USD and inflation skyrockets.(this will happen bc-easy way out lol) rates then go higher.@@user-ih5ii4tp3w

Just advised a family member to spent the $5k on a transmission va buying a newer car. I'll have all the fluids changed for her and it will last another few years. Time to just take better care of your current vehicle.
Lowering interest rates won’t decrease prices. It will do the opposite. It will drive houses and cars even higher than they are now. To many people willing to take ridiculous loans.
Um, interest rates need to go higher because too many dumb people are buying expensive vehicles which just encourages manufacturers to continue making expensive vehicles. When people stop paying high prices - then prices will lower.
That was a nice Prius. $5600 at a dealer auction 14 years old OUCHIE!! And yes it comes with plastic hubcaps that snap on over the rims.
The Ford truck is built as well as a Boeing plane.
That's something about the number of vehicles being put on a phone call.
Thank you so much for the auction videos. It definitely gives us perspective of what the market is doing. Really appreciate you taking the time for the videos.
Those @0:48 plastic covers are curb rash protection until you have mastered the car then you can pull off all four in less that 30 seconds..
My son has already lost 4 ( 2 each on 2 sets.
The next ones will be 20$ like that last set.
The auctions need to start charging storage fees if the vehicle has been ran through the auction three times and has not sold. Trust me if the storage fees are high enough the dealers will sell them. The way it is now these dealers are allowed to just store these vehicles for free on an auction lot.
They do charge a fee. It's not called a storage fee though
How come nobody cares about hybrid battery health in these 10-15 yr old hybrids. And the dealers that buy them just don't seem to even care about the future buyer.
Well that's like telling everybody 2+2=4. What dealer cares after the buyer rides off the lot?
They abused too much the customers, and still doing it.
Thank you for explaining this!
That F 250 was a gas job, not even a power stroke. Way too much money for that!😂

The Prius I owned was a great car but sucked when the snow got deep.
3rd gen Prius has no way to turn off traction control. We dont get snow but the few times we had ice, it could be real trouble if I had to stop on any type of an incline. My current 4th gen does have a switch to turn off traction control.
"I bought half a Tahoe" ... LOL! Gives new meaning to the phrase, "1/2 off"
I just bought a brand new SUV last weekend. The dealer discounted the vehicle over $5500 to go along with the manufacturer’s 1.9% financing. I looked at used SUVs and the same model SUV, but 2 years older than I bought, with 25k+ miles would’ve cost me more than the same model brand new SUV I bought. Financing on a used vehicle was 8%. It’s crazy! It’s a damn good time to buy new vehicles, but AWFUL time to buy used.
You added the coming up next to your intro!? Sub earned.
That's how the Prius is. It's like alloy wheels with wheel covers. Many Prius owners take the wheel covers off and leave them off. They say it looks better.
I removed the covers from my wife’s and added nice oem center caps

Lower interests rates lead to higher inflation and increased demand, that is the reason we are in trouble now. You need to mention unrelenting govt spending and printing fiat dollars as well.

That is the way that Prius wheel are. The one just didn't have the hub cap/cover. I'm on my 2nd Prius and I always lose a cover during the first yar and just take them all off. A 2" electrical box knock out plug covers the hole fairly well.

The 2017 tax law is why many people are getting very low or no income tax refunds. The law was particularly aimed at people making less than $75,000 a year (and to a lesser extent those making less than $100,000/year) with income tax increases beginning with the 2021 filing year (for 2020 taxes) and increasing taxes through around 2028-2030. I know because I read the law after Congress passed it and I knew it was bad news for thousands if not millions of Americans. Politicians thought they could get away with it because of the delay in implementation and that people couldn’t figure out who did it. Now car dealers are finding out that people aren’t getting big refunds any more.
I thought I saw the black Camaro coupe again. Long term parking! Loved the pollen rant. Do you hit 2 or 3 auctions when the pickings are slim?
I bought a new ‘23 Ram Big Horn Hemi Equip Gr-1 on 3-22-24 with a MSRP of $61k for $49,329 OTD. Bought near Kalamazoo MI. I did use the 1st Responder and Employee Choice incentive. I’ve been looking since September, watching Brandon and the Car Edge channel was helpful.
Below MSRP is the way to go. Congrats.
that truck probably cost OVER $100K just two years ago.
Those generation prius have problems with blowing head gaskets.
Well spotted. Almost as bad as a Subaru WRX. Get them too hot just once and the block will have to be redecked just to properly mate with the head that got warped. :(
Even if they didn't have head gasket issues, $5600 for a 14 year old Prius at a dealer auction is madness!!
Thanks Brandon for covering the Camaro, good miles for an 11 1LT RS ....they only made white wheels for special edition builds ...those looked coated or plasti diped certainly not original for that car - Mark
@1:14 - yes, that's the way Toyota did wheels on the Prius. Lightweight aluminum rim with a plastic hubcap over it for aerodynamics. Both my 2007 and 2015 Priuses had the same arrangement.
The plastic wheel covers on the alloy wheels on the Prius are for aerodynamics
Um, no.
Cybertruck has a beer cooler built in - that tells you who it's for.
Probably fru-fru craft beer and Bud Light drinkers. Real truck owners want to put real beer on ice in a cooler and then put the cooler in the back of a real truck.
i watch your stuff every day. i have owned a tesla model 3 for six years. if you'd like to interview an average, dull EV owner, i am happy to share my experiences.
One of the dealerships here has about 30 or 40 jeep pickups lined up. Priced about 45k+\ - it doesn’t look like they are moving. I don’t know for certain but I drive through the lot about once every two weeks or so. It’s on my way to other places that I go so if I have extra few minutes I’ll drive through
That 200k truck is overpriced but it's still not a bad truck. A high trim truck like that in nice shape with a cap... that's old man ownership almost for sure and those are probably 95% highway miles at very low RPM..

That's how the priuses are.... lightweight alloy wheels with hubcaps. Only ones that don't are the higher end with the larger -17"- alloy wheels.
You put a plastic "hub cap" over a alloy wheel because the alloy is scratched up. I offroad my truck, my alloys have major trail rash. Got matching "caps" looks good.
On the Kia Soul you may be able to buff that out

I have an easy solution to this problem. Dealers globally must agree to sell the car on the following stipulations. Dealers can drop cars off at the auction for 4 weeks at asking price. Unless the dealers pickup the cars to sell back on their lot directly the 5th and final week of auction day starts the bidding at $100 only the auctioneer knows what cars are there and when to sell at $100 but no matter the final sale price the dealer must sell the car at that price or pay the auction $1000 and the winner $1000. Each and every auction for that vehicle after that if not sold will be at $100 starting bid.
Also… if the dealers pickup the vehicle they can’t return the vehicle to auction for 60 days to prevent this loophole issue.
The Prius hub caps are factory. Their design is meant to cool the brakes a specific way. But just like Tesla a lot of people pop the hub caps off and put a center cap in place.
Just like there is a “tax time” window and a “repo time” window, there is an “election time “ window and that’s when interest rates will come down. When people get happy , because of lower rates they will vote for Biden (except for women they’re voting for him anyway).

@@Aki_Lesbrinco I’m aware of the maintenance costs, the major repairs are usually due to neglect of the maintenance, and i make well over 6 figures a year so i assure you i can afford to keep it running. I have a ‘15 Prius that came with the same hubcaps over the alloy rims. Eventually, I lost one of the hubcaps, as they would pop off and be rolling down the road often. At one point, I never went back to retrieve it and realized the car looked better without the hubcaps and took the others off. I’ve noticed most older Prius cars do not have the hubcaps on them anymore. I think they fell off too easily and became more of a nuisance.
They stole mine - all 4. :(
The cap on the rims is a cap placed at production. It’s a cheaper way of making shinier and smoother looking finish.
