WATCH THIS VIDEO BEFORE YOU BUY A FLIP UP MOTORCYCLE HELMET !!!! SAFETY CONCERN!!!

- I punch myself in the chin for your safety....and entertainment. 😄
But the point I'm making is not funny at all....you better do this test before you buy a modular/flip up helmet...it might just save your face.
Now i know why my modular helm is harder to open. I thought it was defective but it is actually an extra safety mechanism
I've got a HJC i90, absolutely no way that's coming open like this, can confirm, I just tried it also the chances of sliding chin first, if that's happened you've got bigger problems
got worried at this video, as the i90 button is right there where he's hitting with his hand, but found the same as you thankfully. Thr fact that you have to sort of pull the red button forward too, seems to be making all the difference.
IF you're getting a flip up helmet, get the Shoei Neotec 2 or any of the Nolan group ones as none of them have this type of issue with the chin bar opening mechanism
Thank you I had no clue where to look !
Tried a nolan but the chin bar was pressing so hard against my chin it felt like I was gonna break something just by wearing it. No problems with my Schuberth C5.
Ur just hitting the release Button 😂
But the concrete could just as easily do the same....
Or you're just a clown
@@ThepPixel exactly
You’d have to hit the pavement just right to hit the release switch and then slide backwards for this to actually happen. Just get a good quality modular not some cheap chinesium.
if your sliding down the pavement on your face, it may very well be time to put the bike away and stop riding, anyone can hit the button underneath and get them to lift up like that and the chances of that happening in an accident are probably one in a billion.
also if you are getting dragged im pretty sure your head will come off if caught on something with a helmet on.
Not at all, I remember specifically in my MSF course that somewhere between 36 to 40% of the time when you actually hit your head it's usually on the chin.
@@Nors1e Thank you.
@@Nors1e ...on the chin flying FORWARD.
@@Nors1ewhy would you be sliding backwards on your chin?!
thats why Shoei designed the release differently! I would only look at Schuberth or Shoei if going modular.
ALL YOU NEED TO do is: ADD COMMON SENSE. Virtually NOTHING is going to come upwards from your neck and trip the open button. Look at helmets that have been in accidents and see where the damage is ...
Funny you mentioned common sense....can you really not picture sliding on your belly, face down feet first?
Thanks for taking the time to make this, very good point
That’s one of the reasons I only wear full face helmets.
yeah but if your only on a moped or a slower bike and are gonna be doing delivers or anything of the sort taking it on and off is an asshole and soz for being this late
This is why my flip up has a two point catch to pull it up.
The British SHARP tests cover the percentage of times the bar opens. Best bet is to pick a DOT and ECE rated helmet off the SHARP lists.
Thank you so much. I wanted to get my wife one of these flip up helmets but I will now pay close attention to the unlocking mechanism, before buying one.
get a basic full face, cheaper too. Remember, you're changing it out every 5 years.
My bilt techo 3.0 the button has to be pulled down to open it. I just tried hitting harder than I wanted to and it did not open! But thanks for this video it needs to be seen by riders!
Yeah with the full face you will surely die with a whiplash, modular may be still alive with a battered face. And btw none of my modular helmets opened like that!
if sliding on the ground or any forward heading movement, will not cause this bottom part to open, and the force will be in the opposite direction . This type of force you are explaining is from falling from a height. at that point, your whole helmet can come off if it catches on something.
So you're saying you only slide head first moving forward? lol I think not. If you're sliding feet first on your belly with your face down you're gonna wish the flip up portion doesn't unlock, believe me. But to each their own.
... and your head may sever if the chin didn't release.
@@kinderutz ...what if you are sliding with one foot forward, one dragging, while twirling and dancing? That is way more probable than what you described.
For that action to occur you would have to be face down sliding feet first. Seems like a crazy crash.
thanks for sharing - i'm amazed at how simple they can open
Full face is always better
You mean always safer, but safer does not meat better. You can stay home instead of riding a motorcycle, it is safer, but it is not better.
@@illla 😂😂😂😂 ur comment made some sense agree
If your chin on your helmet catches on something... you will lose your head. Why are you worried about your face. This release catch is a GOOD thing, not a bad thing.
if you buy a cheap flip front helmet what can you expect. I had a serious crash while wearing a BMW System 6 flip front helmet. My head hit a wall at 50 mph, then I was thrown up in the air and tumbled down the road a good distance .The helmets only issue with the chin bar was the air vent cover came off . I was knocked out but the quality of that helmet saved my life. You get what you pay for .
the one that did not open was only $100.....I ended up keeping it and have been using it since.
Most modular helmets i tried had a pull-out, not push-in buttons. I have a Scorpion and Shoei helmets, none of them have this issue. You should never gamble if 2/3 of your helmets have this problem
Virtually impossible to slide chin first…
good point. very good point.
this test is a load of rubbish. the only way you can release the chin bar is to press the chin button and is exactly what you are doing.if you hit the deck on your chin bar, you'll more than like broken your neck. anyway folks dont take any notice .I've had several flips and none did what he did. if they do lift open then it would not pass the test that is required for sale to the public.
Thanks for your comment.
His point is the chin guard can easily hit something and release the helmet I've seen people land on chins before.
Actually it is not , ofcourse not scientific but imaginary your hand or the handles hit the unlocking mechanism when you fall or hit something, it is scary how floppy these helmets are 🤣
In the USA DOT does not require testing of helmets. Companies self certify. The DOT standard does not cover the chin bar. If you want a safe helmet buy an ECE and DOT rated helmet. ECE tests every helmet sold in Europe.
something just doesnt feel safe to me about a flip up.
Walk.

I will try this with my flip up helmet thanks for the video
Great review, very instructive. Thanks
I am rider and last time i travel on my bike 1800km on northen area of pakistan .. my advice is always use LS2 non flipup helmets ...
America has much safer roads.
@@HappyBuddhaBoyd after all in the end its all about safty ,
so everybody do not buy helmet open face..just buy full face helmet only...why in market have helmet open face???
My helmet also a flipup but the unlock button in not in beneath exposed but litted inside where nothing but our finger engage it.
impact happens from front rather from beneath. but still nice observation buddy🙂
I'm not saying it will open on impact but if you slide feet first, on your belly, face down....it's quite a possibility.
I think once your chin starts scraping on the road you would turn your head. Job done. 👍
don't buy cheap modular - problem fixed!
Great observation thanks! Advice taken 👍
Some have a locking mechanism and beed a button to open
obviously not all
Excellent advice
do they not have locks?
And that's why you don't buy a cheap helmet.
All depends on the build quality 👌🏽
And if u slide on ya chin I'm sure ya gonna do some damage to ya neck anyway if not snap it clean and die 😮 tuck and roll 😉
@@dylanpateman4024 can you not move your head backwards at all with the helmet on? Try it. That's all it takes to catch that tab and open it.
Vgv white helmet like dolphin police
Flip-up helmets are not full face, there's always a risk of losing the front face module. Tapping the chin of your helmet tells you nothing.
The truth is, in case of an accident or if you fall off your motorbike high likely you'll get injured, doesn't matter which helmet are you wearing, any biker knows it.
Watch the video again, maybe you'll learn something...or not. Thanks for commenting.
@@kinderutz What's the lesson on that video? Tapping the chin of your helmet doesn't show anything.
Clearly, you're not an experienced biker. Stop wasting time and money with helmets and nonsense videos. Just think... have you seen any motorcycle racer wearing flip-up helmets at any race or anywhere while competing? Take your own conclusions
Yeah.... If you need protection from jumping into Mario pipes maybe.
Otherwise, rather read a book. You could learn something
When putting these kind of helmets on, do you need to flip it open? Like the visir and all? I can’t put on mine when it’s closed.
Yes, you have to open every flip helmet to get it on or off. They have an infill on the flip that gives a snug fit to the neck, this is why the quality ones are quieter then any full face helmet.
thankx for the tip
this Guy Want to Spoil The Helmet then He happy
In short, just get a half helmet.
You must have missed the last helmet...that one stayed closed no matter what
Good content 👍👍
Roll over so you aren't face down?
all it takes is a split second, you don't fall in slow motion unfortunately :)
What brands are you reviewing?
I just bought a bunch of amazon and noticed how easily they opened up, figured I'd share. I ended up keeping the white one that didn't open.
While I applaud you trying to look out for other's safety, this is also kind of pointless. These helmets are useful for people who have no windshield and want the option to ride with a shield or not. With it up its no different from an open faced helmet.
I don't know why would anyone ride with the visor open. I think the advantage is that you can quickly flip it up and be able to have a conversation with someone without removing the entire helmet. Or having a quick drink, a bite, etc. Nobody rides with these in the open position, they are quite cumbersome while open.
And with it down, it’s good useful info
What the brand of helmet number 3?
what abt smk hybrid evo
Do a face-first dive test 🤡
Are you sure you lock the helmets correctly
100%
what HJC model was there ?
i90
What is the 3rd one?
Like the name
Stop hitting the button with your hand dodo
You're missing the point.
So....perfectly fine unless you are going backwards and face down with chin pointing into the ground...got it.
That's exactly what happens when you fall.
I had an accident with a full face helmet and hit the ground face first. If I’d been wearing a modular helmet, the latch wouldn’t have worked. The whole assembly would have opened from sheer impact. So it doesn’t matter what position the latch is. The better made the helmet, the better off you are. This is why Arai will never make a modular helmet or one with an internal drop down shade. They aren’t as safe, PERIOD! I own a modular helmet I use for short trips when it’s advantageous to flip it up and talk to my girlfriend who’s deaf and needs to read my lips when I speak. Thank god I wasn’t wearing it when I crashed.
@@kinderutz u don’t instantly fall and go feet first lol. I’ve had a few spills only two serious and no that’s not the direction you will typically fall. If you are going feet first your usually on your back. Lol carry on
@@JaeDee66 that one time that you end up on your belly ......you'd want the helmet not to open.
