Beautiful Barbel Chris, absolutely stunning. However, I have said before that I have never seen you come across anyone else fishing that river (and in all the blogs you have posted, I would have expected to see someone at some point!) - which surprises me as it seems so stuffed with specimen fish? I find that strange.........Is it exclusive? - if so, it is devoid of usual angling pressures which make the fish easier to catch? Just interested in your reply, that's all.......
Thanks buddy Nah it gets hammered. Not even joking. On average I normally see 2/3 other anglers per session. I only fish midweek because if I fish the weekend I more than likely would struggle to find a swim to fish in. A friend of mine who works next to the river told me that one day in the summer he saw at least 8 different groups of lads pass by on the river in just a few hours. I just tend to cut out all the chatting to other anglers from the video
@@The_ginger_fisherman - Chris - thanks for that. 2/3 anglers per session midweek! - you want to try the Upper River Lea where they are there in their dozens midweek! It would be good to see some interaction with others as to someone like myself sitting on the peripheral, it appears that it's exclusive. Still, cracking Barbel though - well done!
Fish this river too,it’s not as easy to locate and catch as Chris makes it look.He has years of experience and intimate knowledge of this tiny river through all seasons and conditions, that’s what makes him so successful Tight lines and keep those fantastic videos Chris

Once again chris thank you for this video. I’ve sent loads of your stuff to my mates. I really appreciate the fact that you educate me personally, but you also prove that you don’t need to spend absolute fortunes on kit. Top man chris 👍
Evening mate hope you're well 👍 Came across your channel last week just like to say keep it up your videos are a pleasure to watch well done 👏 That cheeky pike when you release the barble brilliant 👏
What a great brace of lovely Barbel Chris, You proved that the Kit works with big fish. Maybe not with bream, they are really spooked at this time of the Year In the River. I was watching the Huge ones In a Lake here turning over In the Summer, a awesome sight It Is. Was that the Pike that took a Nibble of His Tail?. Keep 'Em Coming.
What a beauty Chris , welldone on a cracking video again mate 👍. Barble are my favourite fish the the Chub . Stay safe mate all the best from Downunder 👍
Great video , The Shakespeare XTs are great just had a Pb on my setup also lovely rods for the price , great fishing again love watching you gents catch some beasts 👍🏻.
Shame you didn't catch any bream. But those big barbel more than made up for it. I love your videos. Not only are you a great fisherman, but you are a talented filmmaker as well.
Cracking video Chris that wonderful barbel looks like it's had a lucky escape from an Otter.Otters and mink are apex predators in waterways and banksides they will decimate fish and wild birds.Rivers have been ruined by Otters in Norfolk scoffing huge double figure barbel to the point of just pointless trying swims.Seems Shakespeare have upped their game nice kit well done.
Stupid comment otters and Minks don’t destroy fish stocks that’s a load of balls mate go out fish and enjoy it stop trynna blame animals if they want to feed on natural prey let them otters eat as they need they don’t destroy stocks learn ur facts before making stupid comments
@@russellatterbury8131 go educate yourself foolish statement scientifically proven otherwise, anyways otters are native and have the right to catch and eat as many fish as they want as that’s how they survive funny enough they can be a factor in destroying rivers but that has to do with water quality how often they’re fished and multiple other things , go fish an untouched water and I gaurentee you will find an otter and lots of fish !
Wow... stunning fish !! I've yet to catch a Barbel, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any rivers near me that have them. I'm hoping next year to take a weeks fishing holiday in my camper van and seek some out. Can anyone suggest any good campsites in Barbel country please?
Look at that pike.escorting your catch back into the river...just didn't want to leave that barbel..tough life there having to wade through the barbel to get a bream...rare as hen's teeth where I live...b cool to see a big river bream.....
Mint Barbel.. fantastic session.. proper fishing well done! Hey can so ask where did you get that little roll sit Matt you were using? What make is it?
What a grate session .. have u tried mainline high impact salty squid . I started using them this year for bream as someone recommended them and I’ve not blanked since last couple months the biggest has been 12lb6oz
Absolutely beautiful fish! Great fishing as ever mate , much respect. You have really inspired me to start lure fishing on rivers this year and as a direct result I’ve caught 3 pike and a perch on crank baits in my last two sessions. Well chuffed! Nothing big , but the buzz lasts for hours! So many great tips in your videos. Thanks “again. Would you mind explaining how you spot the different types of fish in each swim as this I find baffling even though I know what all the fish look like on the bank or in a book? Is it worth spending money on a decent pair of Polaroid sunglasses as opposed to a cheaper pair like I have?! Thanks again
Good job catching those fish. You'll be hooked on lure fishing for life now and your bank balance will show it haha. Id say decent Polarising sunglasses are a must. In fact i don't leave home without them. I used to used a cheap pair back in the day then brought my first "branded" ones for about £25 and it blew my mind haha
Specimen bream in a tiny stream like that? I take your word for it, but i really don't understand. Where i live (Netherlands) you wouldn't find any bream in a 2/3 ft deep, fairly fast flowing stream like that one. You are a fortunate bugger!
Started watching your channel few weeks ago and love it, someone who fished in my late teens and now in my 50s you have made me take up fishing again gonna do fishing on my canal in West Midlands one question you might be able to use on one of your next videos once landing a pike what is the correct way of handling of that fish please
Nice one buddy good luck! Look up 'how to correctly hold and unhook pike' on youtube and theirs loads of tutorials that can help. If you're still unsure you can always ask on your local groups on facebook for anyone that would be willing to show you in person. Hope this helps
I see you using always really light line. I get that you target a specific fish but if you use worm as a bait and you have a healthy barbel population I would really recommend you to use a little bit heavier line. The fact that it took like 30seconds until the barbel was ready to go again shows that it might not the best way to fish with a c&r mentality. Anyways, gratz on the fish, nice video.
A 50lb pike snapped my cane Hardy. Tip snapped so I'm going to get a new eye on the top. It won't snap this one. I got a rubber jak pike foot half long. Dam fishing soon.... Great to get a 50lb.

Great video Chris. When your using maggots do you not get any bites from small fish i.e roach? I'm always wary of using maggots on my local for barbel as I'm worried I'll just get plagued by roach and bleak lol 🤣
I go Pike fishing a lot in the winter but seem to only catch small pike (under 10lbs), even though I use decent size dead bait. What can I do to catch bigger pike or do I have to go through a lot of smaller pike before I get a big one ?
Don't set youre drag so loose just just the rod to make the fish tired if ur drag is loose u can spill the fish easy because i don't have the tention on the fish
Me and my mates hate Bream, leave your hands and line slimed all day! Even 4lbers come in like a wet paper bag. We had our fill of them in our local canals, they always came and interfered with our carp fishing...River bream might have a gram of fight in them but canal bream just lie on the water while you reel them in...
