I've recently found out about this syndrome and I have a couple questions if you don't mind me asking, since I don't personally know anyone with Williams Syndrome..
Do people with Williams Syndrome understand racism or homophobia? How would they define it?
To me personally is so hard to understand how can people be racists and I don't have any syndromes, so I just can't imagine how hard it must be for you!

Let's be honest... That they are not burdened by the negativity that most of us are, is a down right blessing.
Typical human behaviour to see the down side of it. But just imagine how that must be. Happy inside, most of the time.
I'd rather be "to positive" for my own good... Than to negative for my own good. Unfortunately, most people are the latter. And many of our brothers and sisters felt they had to give up their lifes because of that.

She acted like she knew me as soon as I sat next to her. So many people commenting saying "William's syndrome is a gift, I wish more people had William's syndrome" that is reeeeeeally not good. This syndrome has a tendency to be glamorised, people seem to think it just makes you a happy person, which it DOES, but it's at the cost of other things. These people are extremely outgoing and sociable with new people, but studies show they're always lonely because they can't make friendships that are not superficial. A person with William's syndrome would love to play games with you or watch a movie with you or go shopping with you but eventually you're going to want to have a slightly deeper conversation with a person and William's syndrome people can't do that because they have learning difficulties and social problems (at that level). So yes, although it seems like a blessing, it's as much of a curse as any other syndrome. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to have William's syndrome, the whole world rejecting you because you're too "good", I'd rather have autism and just have no social skills whatsoever.

Having Williams syndrome does make you vulnerable because a lot of people don't understand and a lot of people take advantage of you I'm 39 and I've always had to try to be like everyone else and function like everyone else and go at the same pace. I always had to be the understanding one for others to have to be around me. I'm so nice to people I've been molested and raped sexually harassed. I was put in bad and harmful situations all my life. I've been physically and emotionally and mentally and sexually abused by many people through life. Some People Also think there's something wrong with me and people run away from me. I've been shoved to the back or hidden because I'm like this. I've been called retarded, weird, freak, why do I smile so much, crazy, slow, difficult. I'm glad there's finally awareness on this topic/subject . So many of us have had to endure a lot of crap and disrespect from others. I'm in a marriage of 16yrs still married and it has been so freakin hard it has been the same bullying and abuse as when I was a child and it's not getting easier or better.

Thanking them for taking the time to watch, respond and perhaps share their experience is the least I can do. Sorry it's not the soliloquy you are looking for, but then again my earlier responses are not for you since you have nothing positive or uplifting to share. That comment like some of the others - aren't necessarily about looking for help, it's about being thankful that there's something about the syndrome out there - shedding light on it and sharing their experiences growing up with it. Yes, I will continue to thank people for sharing their experiences even if those experiences are negative because maybe someone else will read what they reveal and relate and realize they are not alone and thank them for sharing it as well. It's important to educate children and in some cases, even adults about how the simple act of kindness, empathy and compassion towards our fellow humans, especially our special friends, could mean for them to live in a safer, healthier environment. It's important to treat them with the same dignity and respect that they deserve.

i just watched a sweet sweet girls story with this condition. I wouldn't call it a disability because these special special souls are blessed in ways so many others are not. I call it differently-abled and these sweet peas are just angels! in the schools I went to in elementary starting in kindergarten special able kids came to our class and we all learned sign language and when I moved and switched schools there was an opportunity to become a buddy in the special kiddos class and I couldn't understand w by I was the only one to jump at it. The little girl had so many conditions her name was Alexis and she was just an angel too. She struggled to see but if I was in the hall surrounded by tons of kids she would single me out run up with her little hop from her leg braces and give me such a tight hug she wrapped a leg around me too. I was invited to her birthday party and I couldn't figure out why her mom was so excited I was coming I was glad to go it was a pool party and she had kittens what more does a 3rd grade girl want? 😂 I put on a puppet show I wrote for her class and made the puppets lol bless those teachers allowing me to do that im sure it was awful lol. I sure wish I knew what happened to her after I moved away. I don't know why I was lucky enough to have those opportunities but I know I wish every school did the same thing and that my kids would've had those opportunities. bless these sweet angels I wish I still had the chance to volunteer I'd love to get to know some of them with Williams syndrome it really interests me. I've always been of the belief that they weren't missing anything but instead given a gift the rest of us weren't. Their super power is innocence, the pure ability to love unconditionally and live with no hate in their heart only love and happiness. That sure doesn't sound "disabled" to me gifted mote like it! hugs to all these sweethesrts💗 I wish I could befriend them all

Yep , fun for a while and manageable with appropriate support both hands on and financially. To survive and thrive as humans we need balance. When you work closely with those living with intellectual disability and high support needs ,you quickly grow to understand the impact it has on parents, siblings and mostly the person themselves. A young man once said to me "just because you see me smile all day ,doesn't mean I'm happy , it's part of my disability and my fugging body won't physically let me express other emotions". Meaning , his facial muscles won't let him frown, be angry, look sad etc etc . He had cerebral palsy but Williams and other Syndromes are not that different when it comes to connection or lack there of ,with emotional state and outward perceptions.

My son has this syndrome. I have 9 kids and only one was diagnosed with Williams Syndrome. I believe this is a birth defect. My doctor's nurse made me lay down on the exam table while she performed a pap smear. She forced my cervix open and cut cells out of my cervix. I believe this caused a deletion from my son's chomosome. I am protesting, and I want all the parents to join me to prevent doctors from cutting on our cervix while we are pregnant. I'm asking for the father's help also. These are our children, and doctors are make billions of dollars by causing our babies to have birth defects during pregnancy and birth. Children with Williams Syndrome attend many doctor's appointments which is costing us billlions of dollars...

Before my sister was one-year-old she had to have surgery on the stenosis in front of her stomach because she was starving to death because she wasn't getting any of the food and dying of dehydration... they also had to do surgery on her aorta and surgery on her ear as she has Williams.
And she looks like these people here ...she looks a lot like Queen Elizabeth of England and sometimes I think Queen Elizabeth has it.. I'm not kidding.. I'm not trying to be funny.

Hey, hopefully you'll see this... I take your comment very seriously, but I believe you where mistaking princess margaret with elisabeth ?
Because she has facial features that look most like people with Williams...
From what I get, she was a very loving and endearing person at first, but also very selfish, spoiled and bitter when she was refused to marry the love of her life.
      All in all, very childish.
Can someone tell me if they believe a kids with williams syndrome could be "spoiled enough" or miseducated enough / suffer enough trauma to... Turn selfish and bitter ?
Or are they absolutely hard wired to be loving and generous given any circumstances ?

I think it is possible to some extent in the right conditions with that kind of negative, harmful Environment. a change in their personalities can develop because of how malleable Humans are by their surroundings. it just might take a lot more for it to happen and the changes might no be so established in them.

Our Lord gives special blessings, challenges, gifts and talents into every individual person. Who are we to junge someone disabled, as if God has made a mistake? We've got enough brillant thinkers. But we're deeply in need for loving, laughing and caring people. I'm thankful for everyone I meet with Williams- or Down-Personality, who taught me love and acceptance. None of them ever hurted me like so many other "normals" did...

Our 17 months daughter has some similar facial features to those with Williams Syndrome, however she has developed so far typically, and has not had major health problems other than asthma episodes and low blood sugar when she was born (first days). I am wondering if children with Williams Syndrome may show typical development and hit all the milestones during the first 2 years of life

I have many years working at schools with special needs children. The most important thing people need more than anything else is understanding and knowledge. Videos like this are very important. As a Professional Magician, I perform regularly for Special Needs audiences of children and adults. People with Williams syndrome can teach us all to be better people. Minus the physical and cognitive issues, I believe the entire world would benefit from everyone having Williams Syndrome. To have a heart so innocent and pure so as to immediately love and care for others you meet would make the world a much kinder and truly loving place. There would be no outsiders, enemies, or even the concept of "the other" with a heart as open as those in this video. They may have a rare disorder, but when you really think about it, they're outlook on life and other people would be better and healthier for the world as a whole. Even the least known person would be just as loved and cared for like another friend of family member, and that's the way the world should be in the most ideal and positive scenario.

I've recently found out about this syndrome and I have a couple questions if you don't mind me asking, since I don't personally know anyone with Williams Syndrome..
Do people with Williams Syndrome understand racism or homophobia? How would they define it?
To me personally is so hard to understand how can people be racists and I don't have any syndromes, so I just can't imagine how hard it must be for them!

    • @tbpusa
      @tbpusa  5 лет назад +4

I'm honestly not sure -- from what I learned doing the segment - Williams Syndrome is characterized by mild to moderate intellectual disability or learning problems - so I think that some individuals with the condition may understand something like racism or homophobia and some may not. Sometimes I can't even wrap my head around how people think when it comes to racism or homophobia...
Thanks for watching the segment - I really appreciate it !! Best - Tinabeth

@Tinabeth Pina you don't understand cultural and ethical differences? You don't understand how this clash hinders social growth for one group or another? You don't understand how a persons spiritual beliefs affect their acceptance of different lifestyle choices? You don't understand decades of crime statistics? You don't notice a trend within society as far as cultural tendencies of a certain race or ethnicity that leads to poverty, incarceration, social unrest, underage pregnancy, abortion, unemployment, criminal enterprises, drug addiction etc...... Wow you must be one dumb ass woman. 😂🤣😂🤣 Y'all gotta quit with the nonsense folks. The "I don't understand intolerance" bandwagon is a joke.
