      Your work is really nice. I can't wait to see more of your stuff. I use a program called Wondershare Filmora. It is really easy to use. You can use audio from the video or you can turn off the video sound and record over the vid or a little of both if you prefer. It has lots of great features and some excellent transitions, intros, credits etc. If you have not got an editor yet, you can check it out. I've made several videos but mostly for other people. My channel only has the 3 I made for my vacation last year because I really do not have much to video yet. This new hobby may be a chance to change that.

    James, Great project, absolutely gorgeous blank and good quality video. The only negative is the music which is terrible. After 2 mins I watched the rest with the mute on which is a shame as you can miss commentary and the sounds of the turning process.

    • @JamesGarwood
      @JamesGarwood  6 лет назад +4

      Huntsville Houch thanks for the feedback! The editing software I use doesn't let you use the audio when you speed it up (I don't usually work this quick lol) so it needed some kind of noise, I'll look for a different one and see about a commentary, I don't really like talking so that's why I haven't put any commentary over the video, but maybe soon after I get a bit of confidence. :)

    James.........this is amazing, I’ve been into woodworking my entire life and have even built a number of lathes to try and do stuff like u do, but they never work, I’m too scared to pull the trigger on a nice lathe but I’m scared I won’t know how to operate or maintain it to keep it in working, like new condition, could u make a video at some point in regards of what tools and equipment needed to operate and use a lathe? Along with recommendations on specific brands and products? It would mean the world to me. Anyways, much love and I just want you to know that I wouldn’t be doing what I do today without you as an inspiration and giving me something/someone to look up to. Keep it up and keep doing you man, thanks for everything!

    • @JamesGarwood
      @JamesGarwood  4 года назад

      Thank you Jack, I'm so happy my woodworking is inspiring others because that is how I got into making RUclips videos, by being inspired by others, I made my first few pens with a drill and a chisel and I'm a believer that more expensive tools just makes you faster more than they make you better, practice is what you need to get better so practice on whatever you have, my first lathe which I used up to my 500 segment pen video was £60 and the tail stock was held on by a g-clamp and I made 100s of pens on it, my best tip is learn how to sharpen your chisels, take your time and the speed will come, my first pen took hours to make, now I can make one in 20 minutes if I really go for it.
      As for brands to look for I like looking at the second hand market, it's where I got my lathe from, a hegner xl200 lathe, they make great scroll saws here but not heard much about their lathes but I love it, jet do a midi lathe which are a great lathe to start with, just remember you can turn small things on a big lathe but you can't turn big things on a small lathe which is why I got the biggest I could in my budget, I hope something here helps and please ask anymore questions you have!

    I can see a great channel is being created here ..
    It was such a great vid and project
    I was wondering what is the usage of pressure chamber exactly and is there a cheap easy replacement for it ?

    • @JamesGarwood
      @JamesGarwood  6 лет назад +1

      Mohamed Ahmed thank you very much, the reason for the pressure pot is when you mix the resin together you put loads of little bubbles into it, by putting it in a pressure pot you crush these bubbles down so they are so small they are effectively gone, my pot was under £100 new, and a 2nd hand air compressor would be cheap as well, you could use a PR resin but I don't like turning it because I find it really brittle and it has a horribly strong smell.

    • @JamesGarwood
      @JamesGarwood  6 лет назад +2

      Gareth c I haven't really experimented without a pressure pot, the pot was about as much as the resin I use so I don't want to waste any, if you have slow set epoxy you can be careful when mixing and pour from a height to pop the bubbles whilst you pour and try to pick the bubbles out with a tooth pick, it might take a bit of practice and patience to get it right, please let me know how you get on!

    So, how do you know when NOT to stabilize the wood...almost all channels stress to do it...

    • @JamesGarwood
      @JamesGarwood  5 лет назад

      Hey Mr J. You only need to stabilise a piece of wood if it's really soft like spalted beech or some types of burl, stuff that is going to make the turning easier, this piece of cherry was very hard and was properly dry before I cast it, it's not moved at all in the year since I made it, the only thing I have had move slightly are pinecones so they could be stabilised which would help out loads when turning, I hope this helps!

    Hey James, what's the purpose of the pressure pot?

    • @JamesGarwood
      @JamesGarwood  5 лет назад

      The pressure pot compresses the bubbles in the resin down so they become microscopic, if you didn't use it there would be big bubbles in the blank that would need filling

    • @JamesGarwood
      @JamesGarwood  4 года назад

      @@brucepeters9575 vacuum isn't as good for resin, it doesn't pull the bubbles out as well as you might think, pressure crushes them down until they are so small you do not see them anymore, I hope that helps!

      You could mount your pressure pot sideways for the longer casts!

    60 PSI for 24 hrs? That's not necessary. And pouring Part B by volume as opposed to weight, also incorrect. Not good procedures. Finished product may be good, but not a good utube tutorial.

    • @JamesGarwood

      Thanks for the feedback but you are wrong, amazing clear cast alumilite resin is measured by volume, not weight and de-mould time is 18-24 hours, my pressure pot is rated up to 80psi so 60psi is, 1 completely save and 2 doesn't do any harm, here is a link to the resin please check out the description to see how to use it
