Every time i heard this song i would call my best friend Angie and we would start our shenanigans. Free gas, free food free drugs and free alcohol wild times but definitely fun
Everytime I hear this song,.I'm reminded that I had the privilege to clean Ms. Me'shell's hotel room while she was recording this song with John Melloncamp!
This was the song of Summer 94. I couldn't get enough of it. One of the best summers of my life. Ahh the days of my youth. And just like that, I'm back there.
@Antoinette Chanel - I was 17 for most of that summer. Turned 18 in August. Yeah, there are so manybmemories tied to that Lion King song. That late summer when I started my senior year, I started dating my high school sweetheart. It was an experience. My band, we had our own tables at lunch filled with all of our friends and girlfriends and their friends... It was incredible!
Loved this version of the song, will always remember the video because of the one young girl shown in the back of the taxi cab, the heavyset brunette with the big smile, she looked just like my girlfriend at the time. Had no money back then, working two jobs for peanuts, but nothing felt as serious and somber as today. Good to hear this and think back.
He was my favorite, I like Pink Floyd and supertramp and many more, but John Cougar, you the best and I have so many memories of you on cassette and records xx now I watch on You Tube xx please make another album with you and Bruce Springsteen xx from South Africa xxx love you Yvonne
I used to do road work for Mellencamp in the early 2000's he always told me this song had personal meaning to him. And I still talk to him once a month and sing this at karaoke once a week ;) John even came in disguise one night to hear me in Columbia Tennessee!
Hey Quentin Dugger! I don't know you but I am buzzed from beer right now. But I thought I'd respond. That summer of 94, my family went to Atlantic beach. I was approaching 3rd grade and my two older brothers were into teens in high school. I watched this video at the beach motel because we did not have cable yet. That also included Beavis and Butthead, and other things. We all even went to see True Lies and The Client in the theatre when it came out. After the vacation my mother left my dad and the family split after that, things weren't the same. All I can say is that the family was shattered and the last thing that I cherished was the burning and fainted memories of all of us in the mid nineties that fell apart too soon. But hey! We all grow up so, we don't put our new kids through the same shit right?
Crazy how for a brief period of time this song was playing all the time and then all of a sudden almost two decades pass without me ever hearing it I forgot all about it. Great song
I haven't needed to hear it. Me'Shell's bass and vocals imprinted in my brain so well, the song has popped into my head on its own from time to time. It moved me that much.
I remember when I first heard this song back when it came out. I can't say that I love all of John's music, but he does put out incredible tunes that are so terrific, this is one of the best among several that I'd if I'd rock to while I was driving as I drove alone going to work, school or a night out. It just brings out youth, energy and being alive. The young woman in the video as the cabbie, elevates the music a notch as she accents the youth, energy and wildness.
Me too. Summer or 94. Was 12 now I’m 36. Used to play basketball in the driveway as a kid and when this song came on I cranked up the radio in my dads truck shooting hoops. The best feeling..not a worry in the world at the time
This video made me want to be a cab driver, which I did try for a bit to see if I could meet all these interesting funny characters. Then reality sunk in and I realized I spent most of my time trying to get uninteresting drunks out of the cab, lol.
Confession time, I was 25 when this came out and thought the beautiful taxi driver was Cindy Crawford (wrong!) and didn't know this was a re-make of a Morrison song (wrong!). Hate me if you must but I love this version and the video is captivating to me. I'm 53 and should listen to this every day before work to deal with the people I do. Thank you John Cougar and Me’Shell Ndegeocello, you made a classic for me.
I hadn't heard this song in decades until this weekend at Wal-mart and was like, "Oh yeah this song." Had forgotten about how it opened. Still a catchy song.
It takes balls like a bull to cover this Morrison classic. Mellencamp pulled it off because of the huge influence of southern soul music in his music just like it did Morrison.
Definitely a great cover of this Van Morrison song. Can't listen to this without cranking up the radio and dancing in the car!! Great job John & Me'Shell. We are still rockin' out to it 2 years later!!
Dang...I must be getting old...I remembered when this came out in the summer of 1994. Graduated from high school and working my 1st job on the night shift's cleaning floor crew at a grocery store in Florida. This song would be played several times throughout the night when we had the radio/store speakers set to the TOP 40 station. Helped with the endless mopping. AHHHH......Good memories.
That's the one thing about top songs that I initially like because when they get overplayed, I tend to get tired of listening to them no matter how cool they sounded at first. Fortunately, I only heard this one once a day.
Ahhh, the 90’s nostalgia. 1994 is when I graduated high school and started college. What a great time to be alive! I love this video and song. And I agree with so many others here, Me’Shell ROCKS.
As someone already said, this cover is better than the original. Perhaps the best cover I've ever heard. Hard to keep from tapping your toe, or jumping up and dancing!
Best era in music right here!! I still remember blasting down the highway in my Pontiac with songs like this playing. The 90s; the best era in American history.
I only ever liked this song because that girl looked like my girlfriend at the time in highschool. at least I always thought so.. I still think she is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. So many years ago.

One of my favorite videos made many years ago. Great Van Morrison hit with Shana Zadrick as the beautiful model/cab driver. Shana comes across as free spirited, comfortable with her beauty, inquisitive with a sense of humor...all traits "real" men find extremely attractive. Excellent video. FW

In the summer of '94 I was getting my pilot's license, I had the VOR tuned into one of the local radio stations when this song came on. It was a beautiful day and I remember practicing recovering from stalls and spins while listening to this. It always stuck in my head as one of those perfect moments.
I remember back in the 90s when the cable guy was setting up cable in my new apartment in Forest Hills NY - this song was playing on TV and I was dying to let loose and just dance. I hid behind a corner where he couldn't see me and started dancing while he was working on the wires. Oh the memories!
