I wouldn't have watched this vid if it wasn't for you, Craig. It's always interesting to listen to your thoughts on any car you get your hands on. On another note, I really appreciate your confidence and experience, but unless an actual mistake from manufacturer's at the time of releasing a vehicle, I'd always try the car first with factory settings. Even if after a few minutes you want to go ahead and make your own adjustments, that again, are absolutely sound. But giving the car the chance to perform as absolutely stock, out of the box, can give a more representative impression on what most people will find. Once that's settled, your own changes can make a bigger point and show how that is an actual improvement to those that wouldn't know otherwise. Just my $0.02. Otherwise, I'll reiterate, I love the confidence with the questions arised on the vehicle's first impressions/comparison with the previous iteration, and overall informative content throughout the vid. Loved seeing Lana having such a blast!
Thanks Jorge. I can't argue with that, I should have left it as-is out of the box - aside from the heatsink's proximity to the motor cables, anyway! Thanks again :)
@RCTNT no biggie, of course! I can understand for the sake of brevity it can be tempting to try to go to a more traditional setup, and try to set it as 95% of RCs come out of the box, are raced, etc. But just for those rare occasions that maybe the manufacturer had their own reasoning for that setup, at least we can give them the benefit of the doubt. We can try it as they are for a moment, and try to reverse engineer the thought put into it to be set in such way. Not that I need to explain this to you, but in case whoever reads this, and wonders.🙂

Craig, I'm a big fan of the engineering and materials Rlaarlo uses, but I have to admit-they really dropped the ball with me on a pre-sale item a while back. They pulled what felt like a tricky advertising rug pull by cutting the pre-sale savings after the release, but that wasn’t even my main issue. Pre-ordering was supposed to come with certain items or hop-ups as a bonus, and those items never arrived. I said, 'No problem, send me your upgraded transmitter, and we’ll call it even.' Great video. I still think the LC Racing EMB-T is still a step above it in terms of refinement. Would love to see your take on it with the X12S as a side-by-side comparison.
I agree, absolutely love my LC racing stuff. Funny, they have been out with that platform for years and all these companies cloning them and using their dimensions as a base for new 1/14 (or "1/12") RCs and still can't really outdo the original.
@drewnewcomb2909 something about their materials engineering and just overall tighter tolerances make their cars just so nice to run. So smooth and refined in comparison to the clones. I have WLToys clones and the AM-X12 from RLAARLO is just missing the mark in driveline refinement.
I’ll add to the pile I have the LC racing EMB-T and the Rlaarlo AMX-12 as well and I agree with the original poster the Rlaarlo is very good but LC racing is just a step up in quality!!
Thanks Craig, this was another great video. Lana is so fun and funny. I just picked up the Arrma Typhon Grom 223 BLX over at Amain, and it's $190 with a gyro, but no battery or charger. I've got plenty of batteries and a charger, so no worries there. I would've picked this one up, but other reviewers found a weakness in the rear end of the vehicle after some pretty heavy bashing. I don't usually bash my RC, but the Groms look like they're able to take a very severe beating! I feel like the buggies do much better on a well groomed track, I don't find that they're as much fun bashing/off read as a truck personally. I really enjoyed this though, and thank you for the good battery info, I found that especially interesting.
I hope I don't find out the hard way about the weaknesses but so far, so good. I wouldn't be too keen to bash hard with this little guy. The groms all look pretty great, I should get around to trying one of these!
Bumping back the motor heat sink...I'd might advise even adding a heat tolerant rubber gasket to prevent vibrations from scooting that heatsink back into a position of conflict with the wiring. I'd be willing to bet a simple couple dollar 3 pack of heat tolerant rubber gaskets with a simple slit cut into them would solve this exceptionally and with some permanence.
What some are finding with the X12s when the car flips & crashes hard on the wing / rear tower, the screws that hold the rear tower onto the rear gearbox are pulling the threads out of the plastic on the gearbox. The simple mod they are doing when this happens, they drill the holes right through the gearbox mount. Then use longer screws with nuts on.
That's what I found with the front turnbuckle but I decided not to go with lock nuts yet. But that'll be needed if they rip out. Longer screws with nuts is the smart answer for anywhere its possible if you're bashing hard 👍
The XTS is 1/10 scale and the OT platform, thus the centre diff, the X12S is 1/12 and it's ROG1 based as you state. As I've the AM-X12 (more than one), I don't see the need for this new release, and don't understand why Rlaarlo released it. It should have been the X10S on the OT platform or a completely different vehicle, like a short course truck. A good buggy from what I can see, just not a release needed or asked for by customers. Rlaarlo like to do their own thing for good or bad, and it certainly isn't always for the good unfortunately. I have that Rlaarlo battery and found the internal resistance was significantly higher than some other batteries, so it will deliver less current due to this. Been looking at the Dumbo DDF-350 and those X6FG receivers too. Don't think Rlaarlo do waterproof servos either. Good review again Craig, always a pleasure to watch, always something to learn.
Interesting points, and I broadly agree. However one key difference here from the old to the new is durability in this platform. The old design was good, but this new base is better. That alone makes for a compelling choice if it's what you're after. The servos appear to be waterproof. The ddf-350 apparently works with the x6fg rx, but the Rlaarlo version doesn't seem to.
Buggies jump better than anything else, if you're after smooth and far. They're all about balance and adaptability to different terrain in the one capable package. This is a great little unit, I must agree.

I've seen some videos where they've installed the speed pinion (I believe it's 21 tooth), and the buggy comes to life. It's about 40 mph on pavement with the stock pinion, and 50 mph with the speed pinion. It has enough power to not be sluggish at all with the larger one, and honestly I don't know why Rlaarlo doesn't use their speed pinions as stock because it's exactly the same with their rally car and the Terminator.

Between you and me, the ROG1 is the one to have, of these two. The XTS Rally is better again, with its middle diff, but for fun bashing, the ROG1 is an excellent choice!
glad u answered this one because am thinking on Rog1 or x12s Rog1 is actually faster with speed pinion seen nearly 60mph not sure why it’s faster than x12s tho 👍
Could be different gearing, motor kv, diff gears or tire outer diameter. Without looking any of it up, I'm guessing it has bigger wheels. That'd change the final drive ratio and result in poorer acceleration and greater top speed, all else being equal (which it may or may not be).
I bought a hpi vorza bout 17years ago got that doing 67mph still got it dragged it out so started to get back into it as I have a 7year old I just bought a mjx rally Peugeot For £100 sick little cars definitely for the money. I can get a Rog1 for £140 here which I really like the look off. I also like the xts f10 an the Traxxas fiesta vxl think I will be getting soon 👍
I shouldn't have toed it out but instead run it stock, first. That would have helped. I also have a low traction surface here, so my driving shows it at its worst, pretty much. It'd go better on higher grip terrain, I expect.
Lol, I would bet a large sum of money you could train your dog to fix your rollovers for you!!!! I wouldn't promise much for the bodies afterwards, but it would save the walk. lol Welp, you literally mentioned it in the last 5 minutes. lmao. Great minds as they say, I suppose.
10:38 question: why would you want toe out on off road buggies? edit: thanks google, toe out improves steering response while toe in improves straight line and steering stability but reduces steering response. Maybe that's why you found it twitchy?
If I'd kept them default, as I regret not doing, the steering wouldn't have been as twitchy, but it would have been less stable on uneven ground. The geometry out of the box seems tuned for higher-traction surfaces. I didn't give this element of setup the full detail it really deserved in this video, sorry!
@@RCTNT Fair call. As always, it's about the context. Thanks anyway, seems even though it's priced as entry level, the need for loctite and gear mesh puts it in enthusiast territory. The omni terminator looks like it's a bundle of fun all round. Merry xmas mate.
It's "ash-felt" in Australia. There are many nuances between the various dialects of English around the world. Some cross-over is to be expected and I even use the USA-centric pronunciation for many things for my USA audience, but not always. An easy example would be carburettor (spelt 'carburetor' for you guys): we say "cah-bew-rett-ah" (or "cah-bee") while USA folks say "car-brett-or". Another one is is 'aluminium' (or 'aluminum' for USA): we say "al-you-min-ee-um" while you say "al-oo-min-um. Cheers

Could be different gearing, motor kv, diff gears or tire outer diameter. Without looking any of it up, I'm guessing it has bigger wheels. That'd change the final drive ratio and result in poorer acceleration and greater top speed, all else being equal (which it may or may not be).
I bought a hpi vorza bout 17years ago got that doing 67mph still got it dragged it out so started to get back into it as I have a 7year old
I just bought a mjx rally Peugeot
For £100 sick little cars definitely for the money.
I can get a Rog1 for £140 here which I really like the look off.
I also like the xts f10 an the Traxxas fiesta vxl think I will be getting soon 👍
It' seems to be a vey good buggy. It might benefit from different tires and I wonder what would happen if you turned down the steering travel?
I shouldn't have toed it out but instead run it stock, first. That would have helped. I also have a low traction surface here, so my driving shows it at its worst, pretty much. It'd go better on higher grip terrain, I expect.
Lol, I would bet a large sum of money you could train your dog to fix your rollovers for you!!!! I wouldn't promise much for the bodies afterwards, but it would save the walk. lol
Welp, you literally mentioned it in the last 5 minutes. lmao. Great minds as they say, I suppose.
I started training her today for that!
@@RCTNT NICE! Love it.
10:38 question: why would you want toe out on off road buggies?
edit: thanks google, toe out improves steering response while toe in improves straight line and steering stability but reduces steering response.
Maybe that's why you found it twitchy?
Yeah I think I did it to myself! Sorry, rlaarlo!
On my dumborc transmitter, that looks like the one you have, gyro is on the CH5 potentiometer knob.
That would be correct, but this radio has no knobs. I've tested at length. No gyro with this transmitter and x6fg, unfortunately.
The ae reflex line has a center diff and they're 14th scale
And it's a kit! Looks pretty interesting!
I wonder if a Tamiya Tto1e body will fit on it??🤔
No idea but if the wheelbase is the same then there's a reasonable chance
Wouldn’t the setup make it more stable? Maybe that’s what the toe in was for.
Thanks, and to you ☺️
Love the channel fella but asphalt is pronounced assfault not ashfelt but nonetheless another great video!!! 👍
Cheers
Before My X12S tires hit the ground, you bet a Dumbo X6FG Transmitter/ Gyro Receiver will be installed.
It'll help.
