Hey tomleyRc love your videos I was wondering if it would be possible to talk maybe in email or Facebook just anywhere we can talk about rc for a minute.. I may have a few your interested in... thanks 😊
The supposed winner, wyte_w0lf smells fishy
Well I have their email and phone number… so hopefully they message back. The Raffles are done by a third party… there’s no way to fix them if that’s what you are suggesting 😅
Traxxas sucked until tomley discovered raffles 😂
Shut it Karen hahah
That's funny
Lol its all yr peer pressure
Everything changed when you guys discovered raffles. Got Kev a nice Zero!
How's your "eBay courses" selling?
Owned & have many traxxas including Xmaxx and XRT, always fun but the plastics don’t like the cold. You pay dearly for the vehicles, but the parts support is unmatched, all parts are available in every shop out there. After market is huge. Traxxas should be a part of any good RC collection but there are many other RC options all have their advantages and disadvantages. Always great videos thank you!!
@@markrusk2870 it sounds like you know what you’re doing, a little tip I bring my trucks inside the house and heat them up the day before I take them out in the cold and run them. I live in Pennsylvania it’s been like 10° here all week. But if you let that heat soak in, it takes a lot more to break a part in the 🥶 cold.
@@rcsmith5909 If I bought new traxxas arms or whatever I would boil some water then take it off the heat and drop the new plastics in to give them a heat cycle. It sort of releases the tension in the plastic and they seem to take more hammer.
"All parts are available in every shop out there" that's a really bold statement and a blatant lie
@@rcsmith5909 What do you mean bring your cars in? You leave them out in the cold? You monster lol.
First time I've seen one of these running standard, yes I've been watching Kev Talbot 😂😂😂
lol… first time for everything right?
It’s awesome bone stock! I had a hinge pin pop out on me after a terrible crash like tomley but the captured pins solve that issue for cheap and I 3D printed much improved bumper mounts…. They’re made of thick TPU and they’re basically indestructible and they absorb much more shock than the stock bumper supports!
Tug on your ear if Traxxas is holding your family hostage and you need help.
Nah, they paid him the asbestos sush tax 😂
😂😂😂😅
Worlds tuffest. Redcat Vigilante is is very tough and they released a full set of harden gears for only $80 which was its only weakness. I have both cars. You can't go wrong with the Xmaxx or the Vigilante. XMAXX has fantastic parts support from hobby shops.
😂😂😂 top ten comment of all time😂😂😂
Lmao
There is nothing wrong with liking a product from a company you despise.
Exactly
Separate product from producer
We do it all the time for artists why can't we here?
Yep. I’ve got Nikes on my feet as we speak. Perfect example.
I don’t agree with their business ethics, or lack there of. But I’d love an Xmaxx
I personally believe that the Xmaxx played a pivotal role in reviving the hobby, which was on the verge of decline at the time. Over the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of owning four of these incredible vehicles, and I can confidently say that it stands as the most meticulously designed RC truck ever created. Every time I get behind the wheel, it brings me an unparalleled sense of joy and pleasure.
I believe it had a huge impact on the hobby. The second large scale wave was started by the x maxx and it's size. It and the arrma kraton helped shape the market into what it is today and we wouldn't be where we are without either one.
20/50 on stock motor & ESC is my favorite with the belted tires. You'll have to take the pins out of the motor mount and mesh it the old fasion way but its a much better truck to drive. Just be careful in the cold, its 15* freedomunits here and the plastic gets brittle.
Will it backflip on that gearing with the belted wheels? And do you have decent air control?
@JoeyW979 Yes, I've been able to backflip it on pavement. It's been so cold I've stayed away from the skatepark but from the smallish jumps at home it has good control.
20/50 flys on a stock truck, just did it to mine.
@@JoeyW979it can, I have 18/46 gearing on mine and it does. That gear ratio is very close to 20/50.
You've got to admit, it sure does jump nicely. Even in the cold, that suspension was super plush. Better put 12S in it to clear that fence into the Basketball court. Just sayin'! 😉🙃
12s? I'm going straight to 24s & Foams...
Nobody calls me Chicken!
@TomleyRC What's wrong, McFly? Not enough "S"??? 😂🐔🐣
This could go on for a while haha
I'm not convinced! You went into it trying to be nice. If those two pins worked themselves loose like they did on any other Traxxas, you'd have made an issue of it! Thanks for the great video (nice action shots) and for making one available for one of us to win!
Basically, the only issues with the car are the monkey metal gears and the servo
Swap both out, and you're in for a great time. My first x maxx has a 2085x in it that lasted 3 years with no issues.
(Hopefully, i didn't just jinx myself, lol) im really glad you got one 😊. Hopefully, you have fun with it!
Upgrades coming 🤘
I wanted an xmaxx from the first time I saw it released. It was my dream RC to get. After all these years I was able to buy one this summer and I was not disappointed in the least. I also stripped my stock spur and pinion on my second run but Traxxas replaced them on warrantee. I noticed that the motor mount screws were not tightened very well from the factory and may have had too much play in the gears. If you happen to buy one, I would recommend getting the aluminum motor mount washers (part #7759). This will allow you to tighten it properly and I haven't had an issue since.
Awesome! I love the xmaxx too! Quality car
2:24 that's a true leader. I learned that long ago. Don't denigrate someone for their weaknesses, identify them, praise their strong points and support them to make them better. I adopted that when teaching people about woodworking, cabinet making, construction and received high praise. A few young guys have come to me later and asked if I'd ever been a teacher.
Never denigrate someone for their lack of knowledge either (except if it's something dumb like putting a flare up their bum and lighting it lol)
Phil, im glad you did this. This is the truck that Traxxas got right. Is it perfect? No. No truck really is. But i actually have more fun with my 2 Xmaxxes than any of the rest of the fleet, and both are stock-ish.
Yes, not perfect... but I think they have been slowly improving it over the years.
@@TomleyRCI own this and love it. I actually painted a clear body and added an interior as well. Not something most would do but nonetheless. The Traxxas K5 Trx4 interior actually fits perfectly. Also added the light set. I also own the Maxx and that may even be better. Both are extremely well designed and manufactured trucks. Traxxas did excellent work with the Maxx, XMaxx and Trx4. I've kept the Maxx and XMaxx stock but not the Trx4. It has a brushless sensored Hobbywing setup which improves it on every level. I think it is time for Traxxas to consider dumping the brushed setup on the Trx4 given that manufacturers are now starting to add more sophisticated setups to competitor vehicles that are faster and now more capable than the stock, brushed Trx4 setup.
Same
I think why she jumps so good is that suspension and how your loading up on the face of the jump. Almost like seat bouncing a dirtbike, I can see you tap the throttle at the top of the lip loading the suspension and it seems to just fly. I love it
@@704.rc.builds that is absolutely 100% correct.👍🏼
@ I figured so cause that rig has some serious shocks on it, maybe a thicker oil or lighter spring would probably make it more predictable
When I saw the thumbnail to this video, I was absolutely dreading how harsh you would be about the truck. It is definitely one of my all-time favorites, so I was pleasantly surprised if I was not shocked at everything about the video. Thanks for going at it within open mind! When I got my Xmaxx, it opened up a whole new world of rc enjoyment. I think it gets so blown up by a lot of people it's about how great it is almost to the point of thinking what they say is bull 💩 and a lot of it is 💩 but all and all it is a insanely fun and tough truck. I also think the premium price tag scares a lot of people, too. For that kind of money, I feel they need to upgrade their servo and gear game since it's almost a given that you will end up having to upgrade both of those. You should try out the wide Maxx kit for it. You wouldn't think it, but it makes a huge difference on how that beast handles. Be careful with those new belted tires, though. I heard a rumor that Traxxas is going to end up recalling all Sledgehammer tires due to possible herpes exposure! Great video! I am glad you gave it a chance and didn't hate it!
we got Tomley buying an xmaxx before gta 6
Gta 6 will by far be less expensive lo😅😅
@@DavidSmith-vc5rn not with dlcs
I’ve already completed GTA6… early access. So had no choice but to get an Xmaxx
@@TomleyRC
For real?
Glad you had a blast with the X-Maxx. When I saw the thumbnail and read the title of the video, I though this was going to be a spoof video, LOL! I do prefer the non-belted tires myself. The brakes are very sensitive, when I first got it, I couldn't stop flipping it over itself.
Thanks dude. It was good fun!
"Some say its the toughest RC known to man. All we know is, its called the XMaxx!"
You need to hook up with your buddy, Kev. He is the hero of xmaxx!😂
20/46 is the sweet spot for gearing you also need the hinge pin bolts 👍 good vid and it’s definitely my favourite rc
Wow, this is refreshing,, but honestly fan boy or not, once you play with this 30v beast, experience it on demand wheelies and power slides, jump it a few times and see how graceful it really is in the air, how easy it is to control to do flips and tricks,, well let’s just say it will put a smile even on Tomley’s face to! Thanks for a fair review on my favorite RC BASHER,, it just is remarkable, see what you’ve been missing ole boy,, Traxxas baby. 💪💪💯🤷♂️
When this thing crashes it sounds like a real car crashing!! An that crash at 17:12 were U drill the front corner of the big jump. Man that was a Hard Hit!! I was wondering if you could do some RC Tanks. I would like to see if you can put Bigger Motors in it an see if it will go much faster. As there's many RC Videos. But none that bomb up the Tank to make it Fast!! I think if it's possible U would be the guy for the job. I Very much hope U will take on this journey, as there are so many RC Tank enthusiasts, an to see a 1/16 LEOPARD doing twice the standard speed. Would be Absolutely Wicked!! No one has done this. I know Many Many people would luv to see a LEO flying along. An the Leopard was made for Speed an Manuverabilaty. Your car control in the air is Brilliant. Just the same as dirt bike. When l raced Supercross U would have to land front wheel down. An just like the car U control it by the brake or power. Absolutely Brilliant Channel. Thank you Aussie Skot
🤘😆🤘
8:54 Yes, that was very smooth. I've been focusing on my Tamiya 1/10. But after this, definitely be getting out the 8s EXB'S this weekend. 🤜💥🤛
Conclusion! Not only Chinese cars break due to strong or incorrect hits, but also branded expensive and strongest cars! Of course, if I had to choose between a ZD Racing for 750 bucks and a Traxas for 1000, I would choose the Traxas! But if you’re lucky and there’s a discount + some coupons for the Chinese, then I’d probably buy the Chinese! For example, not so long ago I purchased a ZD Racing DBX10 BLX for 180 bucks! Spent another 20+ bucks on a 3300KV motor and a 26 tooth pinyon! And now this is one of my favorite cars! Moreover, it came to me with two 3S batteries! And I sold the stock wheels for 25 bucks! It's full of cheap spare parts! The worst accident was into a concrete pillar at almost full speed, which is about 80 km/h on the right side, and only one arm was broken!
She's a beauty, the exact same one I ordered during the Traxxas holiday sale.
How much was it?
@@michaelangelo5783 it was $200 off the usual price, it was $900
I thought my 6S Kraton was a big boy until I went to an RC meet with folks running their Xmaxx's and 8S Arrma's. You darn right you don't want to be in the way of one of those 😂. I don't want to get hit by a 6S rig, a 20-30 pound ground missile would be all bad 😬
Best budget basher in my opinion is the rival mt10. Just as fun as the x maxx.
@@clashhead8222 I agree
I disagree. There's just something about larger scale trucks. I love them. My Xmaxx is my least favorite of the big trucks but it's still great.
@boduke9428 yes 100% but the price difference is unbelievable
I prefer the rival mt10 as well. Have both, but so far have had a lot more luck with the rival. Nothing broken YET.
There is just something special about the Xmaxx. Its size and presence alone make it super cool. Just wish it was slightly better out the box for the price tag and further supporting mods weren't required. Seeing it in action and now I need to invest some money into mine and get it back out.. its my most expensive paper weight at the moment!
I could never justify that kind of money but those are the best jumps I've seen for a long time! The sound, the size of the thing and the THUMP as it lands is just so satisfying!
COVID checks a buddy and I took the leap. Nothing compares sinead style
Almost bought an XMAX about a year ago used from my local hobby shop for 600 bucks when i also bought my BL-2S Slash 4X4 but didn't. Kinda regret passing it up now 😏. Aside from when it would be in need of repair. But my Slash turned Monster Slash has been a blast bashin around the desert of southern Nevada. The first esc i put in it, Sidewinder SCT, did stoppies on 3S 😆, but wasn't up to the weight of the 4X4 with 2.8 Proline Trenchers and just kept shutting down after 2 minutes. I ended up getting a Castle Copperhead to run the 1410 3800kv motor, 15 tooth pinion, and on two 2S and one 3S battery. Been bashin it like that for about a year now and its been running like a beast with no issues ever since.
Great video! Appreciate the refreshing review 9 years down the pike! 😊✌️I remember when I showed the OG 6S version December of 2015! The truck has been through a lot to say the least!
Love watching people experience it first xmaxx
Mate, this is what I meant last week, a balanced and well presented review with pro's, cons and how to maybe improve things.
Seems able to keep control in the air to keep it level and fly straight and true...most of the time :D
Those belted tyres, can you do a side by side comparison with regular tyres to see the difference in making pizza cutters with them on full power.
The craziest thing about this video is finding out kindly Tomley was is a military man, got some Bob Ross vibes. Good on you and you gained some street cred today.
How we have never met is beyond me. *sop track is my goto almost every weekend. Either way thanx for the content and keep up the good work.
The x maxx looks like absolute fun, the trouble is is that the truck will break the bank.

Always wanted the x-max but can’t justified destroying $1500 every time I take it out and then putting more money into it. That’s why I like your channel and all the cheaper coolers stuff.
Well if you don’t give it absolute heck it won’t break

I can’t justify the price £1200 just for the truck then another £200 just for the batteries and charger
@@momentarylapsofreason I know it's madness
You can get one used with batteries here in Florida USA, $5/600 bucks with battery and charger. I’ve gotten them for less than 500 no batteries 😊
I bought the Maverick 2 pretty much based on your video… now I can compare the size difference I need to buy/win an XMAXX!!! Love the videos!
17:35.....broke my back just watching 👀🫢
🤣
lol
Tape/shoe goo the next body. Helps them last way longer. I bought an unbreakable for mine and it's held up great for me (probodyrc). I never tried the high speed gearing when I got mine, just stock gearing and it was sooooo slow. I didn't care for the way the esc worked, was very "light switch" with throttle and brake. I threw a max6v3 with cap pack in it and geared it up a bit. Then the motor died (motor fans lost blades). It was also used, and by the amount of wear on the rear diff gears, it had some time on it. My servo also only lasted 2 or 3 bash sessions before dying electronically.
Got a max5g2/spektrum 5687-1100kv with 29/46 gearing, aftermarket servo, wrapped sledgehammer belted tires (really didn't want them grenading) in it now and it's pretty nutty. Also got a split center axle (bent the stock one early on) and a M2C center brace for the bottom.
It's a bear to carry up/down 3 flights of stairs, but every time I run it, it's a blast. With how I have it setup, it holds up pretty well for me even with big jumps.
for some reason i can't explain it but it looks more fun when you drive this than anyone else here on youtube
It might be because I was not trying to prove anything with it, and was just driving it the same as all my other bashers. :)
@TomleyRC yes, I like to watch the big jumps and crazy stunts but it's more fun just to jump small and not breaking the rc lol I think I don't own one yet, I hope I win your competition, so far no luck.
$1000.00 and no roof skids? Super thin body shells? That's Traxxas!
15:27 yeah you’re right that’s hysterical lmao 🤣
Brilliant video. I’ve been on the fence about spending over a grand on a new Xmaxx for months now, and this has pushed me to get one on order tomorrow. I grew up with 2wd Stampedes so I can’t wait to see how much things have come along since then 🙂
1st time ever I've wanted an RC car! I love it. Great video.

The mere size of the rig is a fun factor, doesn't mean it can't have other advantages and disadvantages though.

@8:52 wow that was very clean. I´m glad you like it. Skate parks suddenly feeling small is one of the downsides. It just needs a lot of space :D
The hinge pins have always been a problem. There are pins from RPM or CEN that are more like long screws with nuts.
Hey Tomley. Great video! You can trim the back of the body just a bit higher than rear bumper. I did with my Xmaxx and no more damage from the bumper flexing and hitting 😊
Awesome, cheers for letting me know

No need to speculate... I can tell you how it played out lol.
I bought the Xmaxx last year, with a plan to do a video first or second week of January. Then on Monday my first day back from Holiday the whole Traxxas Asbestos thing was gathering some attention on Facebook, so I decided to drop tools and do a video (record, edit & upload in 1 day). Todays video was actually meant to be my 1/5 Scale... but the weather didn't play ball, so the Xmaxx got jumped ahead ;)
There you go... no games being played... just making videos & having fun, as I always do
Hey Phil. Happy new year! I think it'll be cool if you had a series called 'is it as good as they say'. Tested. Tried. True.
honestly, an Xmaxx will blow the average bong's mind.
Yes, I think that's also why it's a 'wow' RC Car, it's impressive for anyone to look at

Thank you for sacrificing an Xmaxx!! Surprised there wasn't more damage, considering the temperature.
Yeah, it did good! Got a few small upgrades on they way, and then another video planned
8:03 😂😂😂😂you love it
The noise of it smacking the basketball court made me flol hahaha

Beautiful RC! Love that color too! And I use my traxxas XRT wheelie bar for a carry handle too 🤣🤣
Id love to see an X-Max fitted with foam tyres, sway bars, an aero package and slammed to the deck.
Could be a really good street car. 🤔
Nice video. i love my xmaxx. It has never let me down they take a beating, but the best part of it is it can pull both my girls on a sled in the snow and combined they are around 40kg 💪🏼
Best thing about the xmaxx is how cheap the parts are. I basically can't do anything to it that'll put me out more than $50. And usually it's a few packs through it before I break anything
I’ve had mine for a few years. Upgraded the arms and knuckles. It’s really tough. Only thing I ever break is the gears. Not sure why yet. But the sweet spot for me is 18-50. Never overheated.
I have the green ultimate xmaxx and LOVE it! Not gunna lie still prefer beat the snot out of my maxx slash instead of the xmaxx. I added extra glue to my tires to prevent a blowout and did the drywall shoe goo on the body.
Now get a 8s Outcast exb and see what real large scale fun is. I thought my Xmaxx was the best until i got my Outcast. Now i have every large scale from every major company except the XRT (didn't like it and sold it) and to me the Xmaxx is below the big Arrma's and Redcat Vigilante. The Outcast is definitely my favorite. I like it so much that i bought 2 of them. If you like the Xmaxx then you'll love the Outcast. Large scale cost more, takes up more room, and is just all around less convenient but it's just a lot more fun and impressive to watch a huge truck rip around spinning and flipping.
I've had one for several years now. For the average driver like mois, it's plenty tuff enough. One of my sons ran it into a concrete drain outlet at full speed, and it was fine.
Since releasing the Xmaxx Traxxas have released some better handling big scale vehicles. But I really like the Xmaxx's big derpy wallowing character.
That was cool. I could tell you were truly excited having that big ole traxxas XMax . Well done.🇺🇲👍
Wow Phil… finally. Finally you tested the Xmaxx and finally you allowed yourself to have fun with a Traxxas product. If you could just take that same neutral mindset to your future reviews that would be great. The Xnaxx is brilliant but so are many of their other products. Not all, there’s some stinkers in there but by and large they mostly make great products. - And I think your spot on … that “clumsiness is a part of the charm and character of an Xmaxx and surprisingly the new belted tires don’t diminish it … in many ways they improve it.
A Traxxas Sledge review from you would be great too.
About Ruddy time Tomley! X Max was my second purchase some three years ago, it was highly recommended by BeYond RC, you always slate Traxxas and always dismissed the XMax. The XMax never fails to make me smile wide. Look how many Kevin has bought over the years!
Pretty crazy video dude. I'm just glad you're not hating on the best rc car in the world anymore.
Bloody hell it takes a beating!! 😂. I still cant justify buying it with the batteries/ charger etc.. an extra 500 plus.
Im still content with my losi 5t - but cant bash it like that.

Traxxas Lipo batterys are under rated! There expensive but they do pack some punch!

I would love to see the military version of Phil 😂
Not much different to the RUclips Phil lol.
I have one too and I have to say if you make jumps like at the beginning of the video then the thing really lasts forever. I've had mine for 3 years now and have never had a problem. Everything is just like it came from the factory and I've never had to repair anything
@@levin55555 really you still have the stock gearing? And just so you know I’m a huge X max fan. I have two and the XRT I love them all.
I absolutely love my xmaxx. Lots of upgrades i did but lots werent needed just wanted hinge pins with nuts took care of those pins coming out of place . Metal servo gears. Steel pinion and spur. Widekit, badlands , light kit. Only thing i still want to get is a max 6 but the traxxas esc surprisingly has been great and is still great
Even the older Xmaxx 8s had poor air control. The truck doesn't have enough wheel speed out of the box to make good corrections if things get hairy. Run 20/50 gearing with aluminum 35mm cooling fans for the esc and motor and you'll be set. The truck will do backflips (on steep ramps) and will have enough wheel speed for corrections.
Edit those belted tires seem to have much better rotation then the old tires had!
Switch to the 1600kv from the old 6s xmaxx and watch it go... no gear change needed and it will do standing backflip
@mattb6945 I know. My buddy has one and it's nuts, but runs hot AF.
@mattb6945 if traxxas came out with a 1400kv motor that's the same can size as the current 1200kv motor they'd have a winner.
@@RobertNES816 just need fans as they don't come stock also helps to drill 4 holes in the ram on the front of the truck to allow air in better
The X-Maxx is epic. I always like the brutal speed of Arrma, but the X-Maxx just seems indestructible and huge. For the life of me I haven't been able to save up enough money for just a cheap RC... I'm just a poor foster parent on disability who can hardly walk. Some day...
X Maxx is Definitely one of the funnest Trucks to drive
