I test my DOMETIC Air Conditioner to see how many AMPS it draws off my LITHIUM Battery and Inverter.

    I have 3 x370w Lg panels and they average at peak 1050w (95% nameplate).
    Normally by 8am they’re at around 800w. Averaging about 7-8kwh per day.
    With a domestic split system I can run AC on max indefinitely

      Love it! I doubt the Chinese panels that came with the van run that kind of efficiency but I must say they do seem to work quite well.

    Great video mate....
    I would love it if you had mentioned the state of charge (ie: percentage) at the various stages of the test.
    As you are no doubt aware, with lithium batteries, the voltage isn't of much use to us as a monitoring "tool" because, as you said, it'll stay nice and high (low 13s to high 12s) and then just fall off the cliff all-of-a-sudden.
    That's why it is FAR more important to watch the percentage state of charge....when you see that dip to around 20% you know you're getting close the cliff's edge and may not have enough to keep the fridge going overnight etc.
    Thanks very much...I have an older model IBIS (non-inverter) in the Bushtracker and have been thinking of updating to a suitable inverter air-con so that I can run it off the 1800w Xantrex inverter via 300ah of lithium and 540w of solar o the roof.
    Keep up the great content.

      @JebbreysJibberish  2 года назад +1

      Yeah unfortunately I don’t currently have anything to measure the state of charge of the lithiums as the projecta doesn’t do that. I think setup correctly a newer Ibis inverter would work well on what you are planning. I ran it for nearly 3 hours today in the full sun on fan speed 1 and at one point the voltage went up 0.1 volts! I’m super impressed how efficient it is.

      @@JebbreysJibberish all good mate....at least you proved the concept works well.
      I'd have to get a sparky to re-gig some wiring if I were to try to do what you've done. At present, the inverter is only wired to run off shore power and I'm not 100% sure what needs to be altered. Even though I'm happy to do *some* 240 volt wiring, I'd draw the line at doing open-heart surgery on the Bushy! hahaha
      Have a great Chrissy...guess you'd be heading south this time?
      We recently did a quick 4 week trip over your way (we have a son in the navy at Rocky and we live in Kadina, SA) and I wanted to do some of the northern goldfields region which we hadn't previously visited.....your earlier video inspired me in that direction; so thanks for that too.

  • @archie68x

    How many AMPS are your batteries ?? I only have 1 x 105 A lithium battery and wondering if it would even power the 2000w inverter??
    I was talked out of getting a 3000w inverter by the salesman @ Kings said forget it with only one battery , even a 1000w inverter would only last just over an hour at full power ?? 🤔

    • @JebbreysJibberish
      @JebbreysJibberish  Год назад +2

      I’m running a little over 200amps. 300 would be better to run the aircon. The lithium would run the 2000w inverter but you wouldn’t run it at full load for too long because it would be drawing the peak range of what the batteries bms could handle. Running something like a pod coffee machine would be ok for example. Running the aircon would be a bit much.

    hi would a 3000w pure sine wave inverter work with a 460ah lithium battery they sell nowadays , for a 13,500 btu a/c ? thanks

    • @JebbreysJibberish
      @JebbreysJibberish  8 месяцев назад +2

      Well it would depend on a lot of factors but if it was a soft start or inverter style it should run fine but for how long would be the question. On low it might run an hour or two.

    • @ericklein5097
      @ericklein5097 7 месяцев назад +3

      Almost guaranteed that a setup like that would work so long as the battery has a 200A BMS with a minimum 300A Burst for a few seconds. Which is pretty standard.
      Just keep in mind, every hour the AC runs it’s about 1kwh to 1.5kwh depending on ambient temp.
      A couple large residential solar panels (450W…if you’re in USA look at used panels on SanTan Solar) would offset a significant amount of your load. And if you’re running that AC it’s highly likely that you’re going to be getting 600W or more. Don’t cheap out on an MPPT. A Victron might run you $150 but they are worth every penny. They simply work and the Bluetooth models are worth the extra $10 or $15. Excellent app.
      Yes these panels are quite large but if you can fabricate some kind of ground mount it wouldn’t be too much of a hassle to set them up if you’re boondocking somewhere and not moving every 24 hours.
      I think anything more than two of these panels (60”x36” typically) is going to be way too much for someone to haul and store.

      @ericklein5097 yeah I just put a victron MPPT controller in for the fixed panels and rewired the old projecta to an external point for some portable panels.
