Thanks CW! I'm sure that one will obtain more reloads than plastic hulls. Some of the forming issues could just be the metallurgy. Great information. I have a few friends who use .410's for clays. It really hones the skills.
@@CharlesValenzuela-m6t thanks Charles! Haven't thought about the lube interesting. Im not able to point up on this range. In on camera & its against rules. But I know it helps alot.
Great series! I think your guess that the Herters isn't brass... it really should have expanded a lot more then it has considering it was annealed. Looking forward to how this all turns out. Thanks! Take care my friend
The mandrel would also tend to be specific to one brand and caliber of case, unless you made it slightly oversize. Then you could lube it with something like Imperial sizing wax, run it into all of the cases, then resize in a full length die. It's something to think about. It's a lot of work to make 50-100 cases! Rat @cw2a
I checked months ago. For some reason most manufacturers stop @ .338. Id want @ least .410 & .440 wouldn't be too big. But as most mandrels work only on a small area I would be real concerned at stick-age. Esp with dirty cases
Nice demo, as you know, I've been dabbling in the .303, However, Marketing is a evil empire, I'm waiting for the next new and improved thing based off some military case, Like the 6.5 BI (British Isles) commonwealth (R) that everyone hand loading goes wild about. Hehe. peace - Dave
That herters brass seems to be all over the map for hardness. With the high cost of components and the scarcity of large primers, I hate to see you doing multiple case forming shots. You may want to look at hydraulic forming with water or oil to expand those cases. Thanks for sharing, Rat
There's another guy on u tube that says to point the gun straight up or down when you fire it it supposed to help them form more consistently. Going to do the same myself and try them in my savage.
Reply. Yes that is because the case wont be affected by gravity. It should fill out better. If your able this is probably best. I am not able at my range. Im on Camera and would be called in for some answers. So better not to draw attention.
@@cw2a morning bud. At least the older stuff was. God knows where they're sourcing it now. As their old literature states, 'Jacque P. and George Leonard, searched the world over, for the finest....' 😀 I have a catalog and reloading manual. WOW, fun reads.
I’ve been looking to do that same thing with some .348 Winchester cases to form 11x59mm Gras brass since I can’t find any anywhere. How do you determine the proper powder charge? (I know you can’t share the exact number of a fast burning powder but did you use a reference?) And then you just fill the remainder of the case with COW/Corn meal and seal it with a 1/4 fold of TP?
@ thanks. And I happened to watch this and your precious video out of order so after watching that one I feel like I’m better set up to try it out. I also do want to do this for .410 so maybe I’ll start with that since I’ve seen it done now haha.

Use case lube on the brass and have easier extraction. Pu=oint the muzzle straight up so the case forms evenly at the neck

Morning CW! I'm almost surprised there isn't some kind of die to finish forming those.
@@Tex_I_Can I could make a mandrel, but as it would be basically FL, might be prone to sticking...
