There's a song on that album called "I Still Love You" that's just an amazing power ballad. Listen to the MTV Unplugged version though, it's amazing and shows Paul's vocal range
Ken, the best vocal work in this album are in "Danger" and "I Still Love You", both from Paul Stanley, the best singer in Kiss by far, they are in other level.
This was a return to heavy metal form for KISS after 3 more experimental albums. Unfortunately fans had left and didn’t pay much attention to this incredible disc. If you are interested in more vocals from them here are some suggestions; From Paul, Danger off this same album, I’ve Had Enough off Animalize (reportedly the main vocal was done in one take,) King of the Mountain from Asylum and It Never Goes Away off Carnival of Souls. Gene…well Gene tends to growl but the man can sing when he wants to. Ladies Room from Rock N Roll Over, Naked City off Unmasked and from Revenge both Unholy and Thou Shalt Not deliver the goods.
The energy of that note is so much more important than 100% pitch. The "artistic license" here is that the vocals almost dissolves into screams in the end - in keeping with the theme of the song. If you dig this album (a lot of us do) - try Gene on vocals - War Machine.
The main thing making these kinda vocal mixes really wet is chorus (or stereo) effect. Either vocal dubs panned in stereo, or phase shifted copies of a vocal take panned in stereo. Kiss has been using this all career. I love the effect. And a cool fact about the huge drum sound on this album is that they had it set up on a huge plywood box. And the studio space were 2 stories with a high, reverby stairwell between. I think Eric Carr was on the floor above, with the drums set up on the plywood box and with walkie talkies between him and the studio beneath. And they opened up the doors to the stairwell for a natural huge room sound mix
Guitar solo was actually Steve Farris from Mr Mister. This is really more of a Gene Simmons album than Paul Stanley even though I do love the song Danger (which is Paul's best on the album imo) Give a listen to Gene's song War machine..big bass huge drums.
The lead guitar on this song is from Mr. Mister guitarist Steve Farris. Ace Frehley had already left the band at the end of 1981 but agreed to do publicity (photographs, promo videos, album covers) for most of 1982.
I love this theme since I was 13 haha... A few years ago I read what you said and I couldn't believe it. On many heavy metal records there are pop musicians in their lyrics, music or as performers on the recordings. Greetings
Even though I grew up on KISS, I was mostly done with their discography by the time this one rolled out. You’re comments are on point here and I’m so thankful that you took the high road, and didn’t try to hype your way through this reaction. KISS was always about a vibe and they knew their musical chops weren’t top tier. That’s partly why I appreciated them.
Ken, I think you’d really enjoy hearing City and Colour. Specifically “Meant to Be (Acoustic)”. Dallas Green, the singer/songwriter/guitarist is an amazing musician from Canada, with one of the best voices you’ll hear.
@@TheTrev2424 Yes!! Absolutely amazing rendition, only he could take that song and make it sound so haunting and beautiful. I like to think Layne would approve of his cover.
Just be fore the guitar solo, he points out that a guitar solo should go here. Yet the great Eddie Van Halen heard this song in the studio, prior to the album’s release, loved the song and guitar solo and even suggest get the soloist (just filling in between when Ace left and when Kiss get an official new guitarist) join the band.
I was more like KISS Coast Guard than KISS Army, but a friend and I used to get together and listen to the first Alive album. Black Diamond still rocks pretty hard. There's an intro vocal by Paul Stanley, then drummer Peter Criss takes over the lead vocal! Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/OMoxxjCRnbw/видео.html
Actually, in my opinion, the best vocal performances (to react to) by Paul Stanley / KISS are either "Sure Know Something", "I was made for Loving You", or "Lick it Up".
Kiss has through their career moved between hard rock and heavy metal and at some times with more or less of pop into the mix. Creature of the night is definitly one of their harder and heavier albums and one of my favourites.
He’s a decent rock singer, sometimes better. I wouldn’t ever say KISS was metal. Rock, or Hard Rock, at the most. This is one of their heaviest albums,, though, and a sort of comeback at the time. It’s one of my favorite KISS albums. Yeah, he doesn’t always hit every not perfectly, but that’s Rock.
Ken, minute 11'50: I don't agree with you that at that point, in the song there is any error and Paul doesn't hit the note. If Paul Stanley was something in Kiss recordings was a sick perfectionist, and more so in the studio, where many takes were recorded. Therefore, it's okay to believe that by highlighting mistakes you become, in the eyes of others, a great vocal coach, but not when the "mistake" does not exist. You had to resort to falsetto to get to the note, and just barely. By the way, Paul Stanley is not a baritone but a dramatic tenor. Gene Simmons, his bandmate, is a baritone.
Wow. I'm a child of the 80s and grew up with KISS. I absolutely loved your Iron Maiden videos. If you would do something similar for KISS, that would be absolutely amazing. Having been active for so long there are TONS of songs to listen to. But if you want a KISS tip that can be vocally interesting to listen to, try this: ruclips.net/video/B4X4Z4Y6B4s/видео.html
Hi Ken Lavigne, I am new here to your channel, may I request to you to please do some reaction video on SB19 song "WHAT" or the Official Lyric Video their song "MAPA" its really interesting to watch I swear, they are P Pop Boy Group in the Philippines! looking forward to see your RV!🙏🙏🙏🙏
Eric CArr the drummer is amazing, RIP. However I prefer the 70's KISS more so than anything else they did. IN saying that I love KISS their my favorite band.
Hi, Ken! Creatures is not really representative of what Stanley was capable of the (late) 80s and mid 90s. After all, he played the phantom in Phantom of the Opera a few years later. Try this rather obscure live performance instead; ruclips.net/video/Q8GnyfxrNEg/видео.html
When this album came out Paul Stanley was one of music's greatest singers.
The unplugged version of "I Still Love You" is epic Paul Stanley.
One of the most gigantic drum sounds ever caught on tape. One of my fave records by anyone. PS...Paul hit the note.
Yes, he did and I'm glad you said so. It's sort of semi-head voice cracked but it's spot on.
Kiss was the first band to record drums with every piece of the kit mic’ed. On this album.
There's a song on that album called "I Still Love You" that's just an amazing power ballad.
Listen to the MTV Unplugged version though, it's amazing and shows Paul's vocal range
Yea he needs to check out the unplugged version he will be impressed with paul
The beginning fill is like falling rocks, beautiful. RIP Eric Carr.
Hands down, Paul's greatest vocal performance is from MTV's Unplugged...I Still Love You. Crazy range, tone, and powerful!
I'd really love to see a vocal coach analyze this
Kiss like them or not, they remain one of the biggest and most influential bands of all time
Ken, the best vocal work in this album are in "Danger" and "I Still Love You", both from Paul Stanley, the best singer in Kiss by far, they are in other level.
Yes, Danger!!
Also, his work on Unplugged is stellar.
Killer album. R.I.P Eric Carr ❤️
Stanley had an amazing voice, back in the day.
My wife and I saw Paul do Phantom. It was the best!

one of my favourite KISS albums... Revenge is up there too !!

It's their best album from the 80s, way ahead of the others
Should have done I Still Love You from the same album.
or from the Unplugged MTV session.
Definitely do the MTV Unplugged version.
🤟😝

One thing I know about the albums production was that the amazing drums were recorded in a broken elevater shaft to have lots of verb

Or his beautiful, dark and gut-wrenching cover of Alice in Chains' "Rain When I Die"!!
@@TheTrev2424 Yes!! Absolutely amazing rendition, only he could take that song and make it sound so haunting and beautiful. I like to think Layne would approve of his cover.
@@TheTrev2424 Also glad to know there’s another C&C fan who watches Ken, much love wherever you are :)
Kiss for ever...!!!

Este disco es una aplanadora ❤

A Million to One is a masterful vocal.
Kiss is awesome.
Kiss has through their career moved between hard rock and heavy metal and at some times with more or less of pop into the mix.
Creature of the night is definitly one of their harder and heavier albums and one of my favourites.
.he layered his vocal tracks (3-6) tracks, they pan them a little bit then add reverb and delay
Please check out "I Still Love You" KISS MTV Unplugged back from 1999. KISS just did their final show Dec 2 2023, Paul at the age of 71.
Great song! Timeless.
React to KISS - I Still Love You (Live From MTV Unplugged/1995)
He’s a decent rock singer, sometimes better. I wouldn’t ever say KISS was metal. Rock, or Hard Rock, at the most. This is one of their heaviest albums,, though, and a sort of comeback at the time. It’s one of my favorite KISS albums. Yeah, he doesn’t always hit every not perfectly, but that’s Rock.
The Kiss phenom was dead by the 80s, but in the 70s the were the zeitgeist.
Kiss was MASSIVE in the 1970s had comic books and movies and changed culture

Is it really you?
Robben Ford did the solo on this one, IIRC? Which was weird, since VV was already around.
Ahhh Steve Farris, indeed.

You need to listen to I still love you unplugged it’s a must if want to hear a master voice like Dan Vasc Paul Stanley used to have it check it ouy
Listen to I still Love you vocals from Mtv unplugged session then you will hear how good his vocals really are .
This album in now 41 years old kiss began in 1973
I'm loving your's reacts, man. You really need to react a Radiohead song. In my humble opinion, u could do Radiohead's Nude - from the basement
Wow. I'm a child of the 80s and grew up with KISS. I absolutely loved your Iron Maiden videos. If you would do something similar for KISS, that would be absolutely amazing.

We miss you buddy! I would love some reactions to Judas Priest and Helloween too
Check out Rock Bottom or She by KISS!
it's called passing/pickup note
.they were heavy metal in the early days- most would call it classic rock now
I could be wrong, but it sounds like you were expecting him to go falsetto when he was belting out the chorus instead.
React to Eric Adams in Manowar "blood of a king" or "heart of steel"
Thunder drums from Eric Carr

UP!!!!
UP!!!!
UP!!!!
UP!!!!
UP!!!!
You weren’t even around in 1982 so spare us the lecture about how music “felt” back then.

"Vocal coach", claiming Paul didn't hit that note lol give me a break.
That seems to be the smart ass, he has no plan
You’re faulting Paul for not hitting a note that exists only in your head.
The word you're looking for might be syncopation😊.
Sorry, but Paul’s voice is WAY more powerful than your’s buddy.
KISS falls into hard rock, not quite heavy metal.
That kind of vocal sneer and snarl was invented by Alice Cooper. In fact, KISS tried to emulate Alice on every level but in a MUCH dumbed-down manner.
Tell me you haven't listened to either KISS or Alice Cooper without telling me.
yes youre off base solo incoming
Seminal? LMAO
A vocal coach dissecting Kiss? I'm so sorry, Ken....
I'm sorry for you.
how much did Gene pay? 🤭
I believe his highest chest note was an E5
He wouldnt be a baritone/or bari-tenor, right???
what is your opinion?
