Paul Stanley can hear only on one side as he was born with one ear only yet he has made an incredible career as an ultra superstar singer against all the odds. Plus all the physical injuries he has suffered on the stage over the years and still touring sold out shows all around the planet. My deepest respect to Paul and best wishes to Ken; it was also very nice to hear Ken mentioning his success in helping Gabriela Guncikova to work with Tommy Thayer. All the best with your projects Ken!
Ken, you are awesome because you are so positive! You are always so respectful in your critiques. My request for future videos would be for John Sykes from the Blue Murder days, or maybe Brad Delp from Boston. :)
I saw them a few years ago in concert, and let me tell you that for guys near 70 years old, they still sound good and is a great show. Not great voices, but great show. Legends!
This is my all time favorite Kiss Song Ken, mostly because of the memories with my mother in West Detroit. " Sure know something" Is pretty good too. Thank you for your reaction You rock my friend🤘🤟
My favorite band. Paul Stanley is pretty much my hero. He always had a strength and range that was very enviable. Of course it’s taken a hit over the years, he’s almost 70 and still was able to pull of the notes for years. I suspect that the main reason for the End of the Road Tour is that they just can’t hardly do it anymore. So much of their music is severely underrated because radio wouldn’t play them and a lot of people wouldn’t listen because they’re just “that makeup band”. The makeup grabbed my attention but the music is what made me a fan. Songs like “Nowhere to Run”, “I Stole Your Love”, and “A Million to One” deserve far more recognition than they get. Great commentary Ken. I would love to hear your opinion on a Meat Loaf performance. He never was much on technique, it didn’t seem, and he just bore down and forced it out. It’s taken it’s toll on his voice for sure over the years but look up “Life is a Lemon” in Orlando 1993.
Im 53 now. Not sure how old I was but was in grade school when I joined the KISS ARMY. Sent in my 2 dollars (cash) in the mail and finally got my membership credentials 3 or 4 months later. KISS Alive 2 was my first piece of vinyl I owned all by myself..
Great performance from Paul in this one. Mr. Stanley in the late 80s through the mid 2000s were fantastic! Time and so much rock and roll does damage to one's vocals
I seen probably 10 shows from the reunion of 96 until ace finally left again in 02. Actually kiss was my first concert in 1979. I seen Ace Frehley in Whitesburg Ky last may and him and his new band rocked!!!!
I gotta tell you Ken, You are the John Madden of commentators when it comes to breaking down music always love your analysis, Also when it comes to Kiss I think Peter Chris had the best singing voice in this band loved the way he sang the song Beth.
Altough I don't consider Paul one of the best singers ever, I really repect him. I saw him in The Phantom of the Opera a while ago on yt and that confirmed for me that he had a great voice. He still sounds decent.
I was listening to "Detroit rock city" isolated vocal track just before this one. I was a huge kiss fan in my youth and have seen them live 84,97,99. Now I understand why his voice was changed somewhere in the 80's. Still great here considering he was 47.
Hi I found as a singer that especially when performing long shows to keep your voice from cracking or getting sore not just requires the correct technique but James LaBrie of dream theater told me that the best thing to drink when doing shows is a mix of warm water lemon juice and honey I thought it was a terrible idea that first but I tried it and that seemed really help especially when I was doing 2 hours shows with the various choirs that I sang with over the decades
Ken Tamplin! I was following the notes of the singers like Tina Turner to sing the I don't wanna fight song. And she was performing all over the world in 1993!
Hi Ken. I'm a few years younger than you, but I was allowed back in the day to listen to any music that I chose. And as a little boy seeing these guys with their extreme makeup I got into them at about 7 years old. And I bought all their records.
I saw so many of their concerts over the years and most of old rockers performing such a long period loose their vocal strength. It is difficult to preserve it combining it with the lifestyle they lived. Although imo they are not the best musicians I love they way they rock and entertain as one of the best. Ken, great review as always and I love to hear your background information even with all your braggin ;). It shows us who you are and the people you rocked with. Brings us closer to them and you.
You are the best Ken You should be way famous than you are better than all the gimmicks out there You should be topping billboard charts I'll definitely get your singing course It's so fun to see you react it just enlightens your wisdom Thank you
sorry to hear about Paul. I didnt know that. That may explain why many said the final Kiss tour wasn't very good vocally. Lots of tracks being used so I hear. MAYBE he can get healed up and the band can go out and perform a handful of venues down the road. I CAN'T WAIT! Thanks for sharing Ken. Video brought me some cheer. Been on the road alot as of late. Military stuff with our son. God Bless.
1979 off the Dynasty Album. This was during that time where everyone was dabbing into that disco bass line. Rod Stewart, Rolling Stones are a few other bands that tried the disco bass beat during 1979-1980
Hey Ken, IWMFLY was released in May 1979 and Call Me was released in early 1980. The more interesting tidbit is that Giorgio Moroder wrote Call Me (co-wrote actually). Giorgio was the major collaborator with Donna Summer who was on Casablanca Records which of course KISS was as well.
Years ago I went out with a girl who, may I add, wasn't really into rock music. One day she pulled out her brothers copy of Dynasty and IWMFLY, along with Sure Know Something became our songs. No slushy numbers for us. Still my two favourite Kiss songs.
Now Jorge, as a KISS fan I have to correct Ken, as I see many have done lol. In the video Ken basically says Paul Stanley borrowed the rhythm from that Blondie song "Call Me", but in fact it was the other way around. Blondie released Call me in 1980, recorded it in 1979. KISS released and recorded this song in 1978/79, so it was KISS who the rhythm was "borrowed" from. But, I will say this, Paul said in an interview that he heard these disco songs in the clubs in NYC and thought that he could write this stuff because it was so easy and KISS would have a huge hit with it. Well he was right lol, BUT... Blondie was playing those clubs in NYC, so maybe Paul actually heard them playing this in one of the clubs and in fact did borrow the rhythm from Blondie? That one club in NYC, CBGB's was a hugely popular club for new punk bands to play in. Paul lived in NYC at that time and probably went there numerous times and that club is where Blondie was discovered at so I think that might actually be how he got that rhythm after all.
That reminds me of some wild parties back then 😂 Ken, l would love to watch some David Bowie with you, am a huge fan since when I was a teen watching Christiane F. - wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo, an iconic German movie about kids in Berlin doing drugs and the soundtrack was Bowie. I was 12 years old and then discovered his music and get hooked.
I saw KISS last night at Mountain View, Ca. I was very disappointed they didn’t sing “Forever” or “I Still Love you.” Otherwise, it was a great concert. Paul is the best front man and engages the crowd unlike any other.
KISS has some of the most loyal fans in the music industry ....... I never really got their schtick, but that's just me. I know they must work their asses off to pull off a production like that!
Kiss was /is my fave. Sure there are more fancy groups out there. But, my brother came home from their concert in the mid seventies that's all he talked about. I listened and was hooked. Keep it simple stupid is fine with me. Not everybody is a snob about what they listen to. LOL. But hey I love gospel music...heck just about all music. Cant do rap or death metal.
Awesome guitar intro I'm rocking to this ken great live vocals hes killing it Paul Stanley is great live their a great band but yea he's singing awesome in the performance awesome song I'm enjoying this reaction their great great singing so yea I noticed he is going into fawcetto maybe he is trying to save his voice a little bit but great guitar playing this is my jam awesome reaction ken👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Paul's intro of "when you hear it live..." actually makes sense as at the time, they were obliged to make a more "pop" version, which a lot of their die hard fans rejected. Therefore when playing it live, KISS played it the way they intended
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy if you could, I’d LOVE if you did a reaction to any Mumford & Sons OR More Fleetwood Mac, as a singer myself I really like hearing a professional’s input like yours
Ken, thanks god your sporadic voice-overlay fixed parts of the song (Paul was quite off most of the time...). Anyway, I haven't seen any of the vocal coaches out there to even mention WASPs Blackie Lawless. So many super great songs (Forever Free, The Idol, Heaven's Hung in Black, Wild Child, Sleeping in the Fire, Restless Gypsy, Goodbye America, Mean Man, Rebel in the F.D.G., 95 NASTY etc...) and a quite extraordinary voice. Just as an idea :-)
Yes!!!!! Love this song its my ringtone lol I know it's the one song Gene hates to sing cause he likes the low growly songs and here he has to give a high pitched DO DO DOO etc lol. This is one song I can do the chorus to but can never sing fully through. Which is fine as it's weird for a lady to be singing this one but you sing it spot on Sensei Ken lol great job
Hello, Mr. Tamplin. I recently saw one of your reaction videos featuring Rhihanon by Fleetwood Mac, and i though that it would be cool if you'd check up The Chain live in 1982 from the same band. Great vocal harmonies and lots of emotion and feeling.
Also Ken I would love to watch you do a video breakdown of the band 3 Dog Night, Maybe the most underrated band of all time, Hope that you would take a band like this into consideration, Thank you my friend
I love the Dynasty album! Side question, have you heard The World Is Rated X by Marvin Gaye? It's off his 1972 album You're the Man that was released last year. You can really hear him just singing his heart out on that song (the whole album as well).🎙🎙🎙
Although most fans dislike the "Dynasty" album for all the "disco-ish stuff", it's actually one of the most decent Kiss albums in their discography music wise. They went on to better things from there on, writing some actual music
I saw these guys in 1987 at the Spectrum with Ted Nugent. God, I'm getting old! Couldn't believe the stuff being sold in the parking lot. (NOT souveniers)
Great video I always really liked KISS! Maybe you could do Quiet Riot next or Johnny Cash would love to see you react and give commentary to those! Cheers :)
I know that Gene wasn't happy with it in the recording studio because it sounded to disco to him. The song was recorded in 1979, and Paul wrote it with the writer who wrote Blondie's hit. He wrote it on a bet that it was easier to write a disco song than it was to write a rock song. The song was written in a couple of days compared to how long it takes to write a rock song.
Speaking of falsetto , Dan Fogelberg's song " The Netherlands " , ( one example ) has him going in and out of falsetto in really smooth transitions . Not everyone is aware of his " non radio " material , some VERY musical performances . " The " Netherlands " and " The Innocent Age " are among the most respected among Dan Fans .
Hey Ken, Please listen to Richie Sambora's version of Deep Purple's 'When a Blind Man Cries' . I love Deep Purple, but the way Richie sings this song brings more dynamics, and a plethora of deep emotions and feelings to this song. Respectfully, Frank
Have u ever commented on simply red Some of the older songs like, stars, holding back the years, something got me started and the like Would love to hear ur comments
Hi Ken, I'm a big fan of your channel. Can you breakdown and give your thoughts on Foreigners "Waiting for a girl like you " sung by Lou Gramm. Their is a great 1981 video you should be able to find right here on RUclips and it's a live almost uncut version where you can really hear Lou's raw voice. I hope you can do it. Alan
His performance of "I Still Love You" on the MTV KISS Unplugged show is epic. It's here on youtube.
😊
Right... Paul KILLS on that one :):):)
Yes just yes
The guitar is tuned a half-step lower, in the live version.
Really one of the best MTV live performances ever, and I dare say, among the best live performances period.
I've had enough / I'll fight hell to hold you/ .... His vocals on these songs are amazing!!!
😊😊😊
Hey Ken, KISS - I was made for loving you came out 1979 and Blondie - Call on me was released 1980 :)
KISS-tears are falling, that’s my recommendation, Paul belts out some high notes in ending of that song
Thanks for the suggestion, Liam!
Also, Heaven's on Fire has some great vocals.
@@danlewis6591 The opening vocal trill is great on Heaven’s On Fire.

I saw these guys in 1987 at the Spectrum with Ted Nugent. God, I'm getting old! Couldn't believe the stuff being sold in the parking lot. (NOT souveniers)
Hahaha! 😊
I was made for loving you is from 1979 the album was Dynasty
Can someone please tell me how this guy (Ken) isn’t fronting a top band today? Baffling
😊
Another great one! you rock. love it!!
You rock!😊
George Michael- Fast love unplugged version. I know you did a video for him before, but I think this probably one of his best performances. Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Great video I always really liked KISS! Maybe you could do Quiet Riot next or Johnny Cash would love to see you react and give commentary to those! Cheers :)
Great suggestion!
That was a great show
😊😊😊
Gene Simmons voice on “When you wish upon a star” on his solo album was hypnotics…
Speaking of falsetto , Dan Fogelberg's song " The Netherlands " , ( one example ) has him going in and out of falsetto in really smooth transitions . Not everyone is aware of his " non radio " material , some VERY musical performances . " The
" Netherlands " and " The Innocent Age " are among the most respected among Dan Fans .
Great observation.
Speaking of rocky horror, a meat loaf reaction would be killer! Definitely a huge fan of yours!
😊
Hey Ken,
Please listen to Richie Sambora's version of Deep Purple's 'When a Blind Man Cries' . I love Deep Purple, but the way Richie sings this song brings more dynamics, and a plethora of deep emotions and feelings to this song.
Respectfully,
Frank
Rock on!
Have u ever commented on simply red
Some of the older songs like, stars, holding back the years, something got me started and the like
Would love to hear ur comments
No, I haven't.
Hi Ken,
I'm a big fan of your channel.
Alan
