Five years later... doesn't the idea that X-Men Origins: Wolverine and/or Watchmen might topple The Dark Knight from its pedestal seem kind of... well... quaint?
This was one of my favorite Marvel vs DC skits from ItsJustSomeRandomGuy. The clash between Rorschach and Wolverine, the inclusion of Sabretooth, and the dialogue were perfect. And Sabretooth's question about the whores in Rorschach's iconic speech was inspired. But in all seriousness, a combination of the X-Men's and Watchmen's sensibilities would be sheer awesomeness. I don't think Dave Gibbons ever did an X-Men comic, but I could see his art style for Watchmen suiting X-Men perfectly. While Alan Moore never wrote for Marvel, I could see someone channeling Moore's writing style for a Watchmen-like X-Men without turning into imitation. I can already see how the X-Men, the Brotherhood of Mutants, Magneto, the Morlocks, the Sentinels, William Stryker, and others could be portrayed in such a comic book series.
+Sam Kresil Yeah. That's sort of what he looked like back in the 90's cartoon days and in some of the comic books, but they utterly fucked the character up in the first X-Men movie - Liev Schreiber (sp?) did NOT have the jawline, height, muscles, or sheer gruff manliness to be playing Sabertooth.
It's true they dropped the original ending in the movie, but can you imagine Hollywood trying to faithfully re-create a 9-dimensional (or whatever) hyper-intelligent Eldritch squid-monster on 2D film with CGI? Especially after all the dark musings and heavy drama of the movie up until that point? It would come out as unintentionally comical for sure. It _is_ the rightful and true ending, but ya know they would have bungled it all to shit, and even if they didn't, no one outside the original graphic novel's fandom would "get it" at all, and would probably laugh their asses off at the end and then give the movie shitty reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. It was probably the better choice to go the way they did, but I feel your pain. We all do.
