Fun fact: Usually on Wolverine's birthday, his archenemy Sabretooth always tracks him down, beats him to a pulp and kills everyone close to him. As I understand it, this comic takes place after Sabretooth had been cast into hell or something, so this is the first birthday Logan's had in centuries without a sadist torturing him relentlessly.

Amazing Spider-Man annual. He’s beating up a group of villains but he’s very quiet, which petrifies the supervillains into giving up. Only to find out Spidey just had Laryngitis that and couldn’t speak.

Wolvie always showed affection to "pure hearted" characters.
In every version of Xmen, animated series and comics, he always has a "young buddy", usually someone "goody two shoes" or naive who Wolvie always looks out for.
In XM-TAS it was Jubilee. In the motion picture series it was Rogue. In the comics it was Kitty Pride.
That makes for great storytelling, as Spidey's morality is a great balance for Wolvie's violence and blood lust. They make a great team.

so here's a neat thing about me.... i have a super jacked metabolism... i don't usually drink but when i do it doesn't take much or very long for it to make me goofy and feel like i'm in one of those fun house spinning tunnels. But thirty minutes later?
      Gone.
      back to normal.
First time I ever got proper drunk was... well i wont say how old i was because i horribly unsupervised as a youth... but i was major disappointed. second time? everyone was doing it, so i joined in.. had a few laughs... but then i was suddenly the only sober person in the room and feeling really disgusted with everyone. third (and final time) was ladies nights, all the drinks i could ..well... drink.. so i started knocking them back. My husband joined us at the club a while later. i handed him my drink so i could go to the toilet. when i got back he said "WOW!! what did they put in this thing?! Are you OKAY??"
      i just smiiIiiIIIiiiled at him.
I fully expected the worlds worst hangover the next morning.
Nope.... I woke up a little more tired than usual and thirsty.
haven't really bothered to "get drunk" ever since. but i will occasionally have a shot of mead or rum. it still makes me goofy and it's gone just as fast.
I think there are a lot of people like that in my family because alcoholism practically gallops on both sides. i guess those people are always trying to keep that buzz going, only it takes more than the usual amount because it disappears so quick.
when i saw that scene in the comic, with him getting all woozy and slurring his words then come out of it all i could do was relate. it's just not really worth it to me. but i do make a fantastic designated driver 🙄
but... same thing also applies to medication.... which actually really sucks, because being in pain sucks enough without having your medication fade out when you really need to rest and just NOT hurt for a little while.

I remember someone saying they’re “controversial” Marvel opinion as that people probably shouldn’t treat live action films as the “final frontier” status for marvel stories.
Both because it just undersells what the medium of comics on its own has to offer and the outright advantages it has over film and the amount of talent it takes pull off.
But also just ignores the palpability and proven potential that TV and ESPECIALLY the medium of animation in both film AND tv have to offer. Treating live action movies as the highest honor and Definitive way comic stories could ever aspire kinda downplays the reasons as to what made people see these stories as adaptation-worthy to begin with.
And Yknow what? They’re fully right.
This isn’t me just plainly saying that one radically different medium is better than the other. That’s like comparing apples to oranges. The amount of work that it takes to pull off not just what the MCU does but just what live action films do in themselves is insane. Its crazy to discredit that.
But there is a truth that people have certain “expectations” when they think of comic book movies. They some expect gritty realism and larger than life, galaxy wide, fate of the universe scenarios.
And yeah, thats an aspect of what comics (specifically superhero ones) are and can be. But i feel like stories like these and how beautifully artists writers can take full advantage of the medium, color, compositions and panel layouts etc to tell some truly short and sweet but genuinely enriching tales.
And this is JUST superhero comics specifically. Not even touching on webcomics, or simply comics like Bone or Fairlyand. Ntm stuff like manga and the absolute titans that have become one piece, naruto and dragonball.
Like, the sooner you realize this too (that is, if you haven’t already) the more truly frustrating and infuriating at is that this absolute disrespect of a medium has gone so far where people genuinely think live action films are always the OBJECTIVE way to go.
Like people put their lives and souls into telling these tales, there’s something small and personal about that that gets lost when you widen the scope for too long.
We might NEVER get stories quite like these in the mcu. The main thing people always wanna see is just the big stuff, the big moments, the big characters.
People always desperately wanna see spiderman be broke and depressed and doped out on a symbiote, but never just go to a bar with his friend…
When you remember how much really goes into these stories. It just takes you back to those days where teachers; even a lot of the good ones, wouldn’t classify comic books or “””graphic novels”””” as actual literature riddled with inherent value.
Overblowing the value of stuff like mockingbird or Fahrenheit.(genuinely very impactful books mind you)
It makes you look at the MCU and see that that mindset that your teachers had, never really left.
When you remember that the artist who drew one of those impactful manga/comics of all time; Beserk, literally DIED for this medium and put his whole life into it, just LAST YEAR. Idk, it just makes you feel all the madder for it.
This a long read/rant on a great video with little views and under 50 comments. I doubt most will read this, and i don’t blame them for skipping over it or skimming for me committing the crime of caring in over 6 words or less. But this is genuinely something i’ve been thinking about more and more lately.
Idk, it leaves me both optimistic for the mediums future, (cause of how far we’ve come with stuff like spiderverse, invincible and artists from all mediums whether it be CG, Animation, comics etc just getting more rights and freedom to pop off and be celebrated and treated well. but still genuinely kinda sad at how far we still have to go, like why did it have to be this way at all to begin with yknow?

      Potentially Unpopular opinion:
That's kinda why I like Spider-Man: Homecoming. Unlike most of the other Marvel Movies, it didn't feel like some ultimate challenge that, if Spider-Man failed, the world would be destroyed. It was simply about Spider-Man proving himself, as well as wanting to prevent the Vulture from making life harder for the little guys. Sure the movie has its own problems, but still. I think more self-contained, smaller stories that don't affect the larger MCU like this are great. Ant Man ALMOST had this, but with revealing that Darren Cross's buyers for the Wasp suit were Hydra, it felt like a way to artificially inflate the stakes. Sure, it was a very real danger that could have affected the greater MCU, but it still felt unnecessary. Now there's nothing wrong with tying your stories together, but there's nothing wrong with having something on a smaller, less epic and grand scale.

Got carried away." If most people could walk away from a buckshot to the skull, they would fucking rip that guy's head off and chop his body into fat guy McNuggets, and hope his brain stayed alive long enough to see the last moments of what used to be his life all piled up on the floor like a yummy treat for the hell hounds he's about to go hang out with for eternity. But Wolverine's just like, whatever, I ain't gonna die. And he also got his birthday wish, so it's a happy ending on top of it.

My father served for 28 years with the PPCLI 2nd Battalion, joined in the 1980's, and is part of why my favourite hero has always been Wolverine, being constantly exposed to Canadian soldiers who acted and behaved idenitcally to Wolverine, on and off the field of battle. Logan is a Dirty Cowboy through and through, PPCLI, it only makes sense since he was born in Alberta and both PPCLI 1st and 3rd Battalion are starioned in Alberta, 2nd Battalion in Shilo, Manitoba.
