Great vid. To anyone wondering, I wired my parking brake wire to a grounded toggle switch which I put in the dash. That way, to watch any video while driving, you just flip the switch on, and its concealed. I grounded the toggle switch to my speaker ground wire with a splitter.
Thank you for the video. Just bought a kit with a double din radio and will be putting one in my 99 trans am. Video's like these always help out. Appreciate it and have a good 1.
Hi - what do you mean by crimping your butt connectors--- are you cutting it or squeezing it tight or what? It is hard to tell exactly what you are doing in the video. I have to put back the original stereo from the factory.
Sweet deal I got my factory radio running now it has navigation 2006 charger now can I change the symbol like how it is in my car a dodge symbol pops up
There are after-market modules available so your steering wheel controls work. You can get them online, at best buy, independent audio shops, etc. They cost anywhere from 20 to 80 dollars.
look up PAC steering wheel control. I was going to buy it but it involves cutting wires from the harness and i can just switch songs on my phone so i didnt buy it.
Great tutorial. Installing my Double DIN was a walk in the park. My only problem is that the Metra faceplate doesn't fit my DIN radio. It measures a cut out for 6.5 units; mines is 7. Guess I'll try to "file" it down.
+muskox28 So what did you use to trim it down to fit your DIN? I really wanna tackle this asap because right now I'm riding around w/ out a faceplate on. Just DIN, A/c unit, & brackets.
Hey man great video, i'm looking for a double din for my 01 Firebird, might get an android deck with aux or a regular mid range double din. Either way, do the wires from the factory amp all come from that harness that is plugged into the factory head unit? I have't taken apart mine yet. Like i won't be plugging anything into those red/white inputs of deck, cause the amp wires are in the harness right? Thanks!
that is correct. everything is all hooked into that harness. thats why you need the proper harness kit to go with the radio so it matched the radios set up with your factory harness.
Oh okay great stuff man! getting the right wiring adapter at Walmart and deck face trim from an audio online store. Any suggestions on a double din worth under 200?
I can't take out the factory stereo bc the wires connected to it are too short to pull out the stereo and my hand doesn't fit around the stereo to easily access the wiring Any tips that may help me out?
Thanks for posting, I was curious how 2din will fit but with than bezel looks superclean oem like. Did you pick up the bezel in a particular place ?? Love the fit
johnny cortez i know this is an old post but check your connections and make sure that the blue wire that says power antenna has a good connection, if you dont see a wire labeled power antenna in some cases the wire labeled amp turn on/ remote wire will be what powers your antenna which is usually also blue or blue and white but all the wires should be labeled.
Zaheer Khan those wires around the sailpanel subs are fragile. One of the negatives was grounding out both subs. I cut one of the negatives and left the other negative alone (4 pins) and it seems alright. I hope it was just a redundant ground because the wire was too close to the harness to use connectors. I just taped them off.
for what i paid im satisfied. its not a bad radio by any means and it pretty much does what it advertised but its not the best looking radio and thats really my only gripe.
Just search on eBay for a double din radio bezel for "your make model year". That's about all I did. Typed out 1998 Pontiac firebird double din radio bezel.
lol i been using electrical tape on every vehicle i've owned for the past 25 yrs.... yes even my current 02 trans am ... NEVER had a problem. it aint a "shit show" lol --- crimps actually have greater probability of coming loose and often do. if you ARE going to use butt connectors, you use HEAT SHRINK ones & do it the right way ... what you did here is no better than the electrical taping job you put down lol
Well atleast I know this one is newer. Hell that old one was missing buttons and didn't even light up, it was a trud man. Hate all you want Its still an upgrade for me. I got it because it was cheap and did what I needed. Never claimed it was the end all be all radio to buy.
lol i love how you shit on the install and choice of the previous owners head unit yet youre about to install a piece of shit double din in its place lmfao
You don't understand how bad the radio was that I took out. This new one of course is no high dollar radio and I belive I say that. But I honestly belive I was justified in what I said. No matter what way you look at it, Its an upgrade.
I said the same thing why not install a pioneer or st the least a sony. Also why did you bad mouth the previous working saying it was shit on ice? Why because it was not looking neat and fancy? I'm sure it was wired correctly just not newt looking.

good answer man thank you. hope it helps anyone else looking for that answer.
Where did get this bezel from?
Brandon Rice ebay
Can you post a link
Thank you for the video. Just bought a kit with a double din radio and will be putting one in my 99 trans am. Video's like these always help out. Appreciate it and have a good 1.

Hi - what do you mean by crimping your butt connectors--- are you cutting it or squeezing it tight or what? It is hard to tell exactly what you are doing in the video. I have to put back the original stereo from the factory.
Nice vid. How about the steering wheel controls? I didn't see you mention the use of any adapter to retain those controls.
i wish you would take your hand off the mic
I just got one can't wait to install it
Same radio?
Yes same radio
Hopefully it's good quality I'm running two 15 inch woofers 2400 watts
I think that will sound pretty good, its a pretty decent unit for the price honestly. the maps are a bit dated but can be updated.
Sweet deal I got my factory radio running now it has navigation 2006 charger now can I change the symbol like how it is in my car a dodge symbol pops up
Great video! One question- were u able to get the steering controls to work with the new radio? Volume etc.
There are after-market modules available so your steering wheel controls work. You can get them online, at best buy, independent audio shops, etc. They cost anywhere from 20 to 80 dollars.
Mark Chas Do you have any specific brand that you would recommend for the modules?
look up PAC steering wheel control. I was going to buy it but it involves cutting wires from the harness and i can just switch songs on my phone so i didnt buy it.

im sorry about that man, that is one thing i did run into but i. once i went to paint the peice i just forgot to show that part.
+muskox28 So what did you use to trim it down to fit your DIN? I really wanna tackle this asap because right now I'm riding around w/ out a faceplate on. Just DIN, A/c unit, & brackets.
+RichieRich87 just some really fine sandpaper. its gonna take a bit to sand it nice and straight though.
Whats the part # for the bezel?

Did your rear sail speakers work after installing the double din?
Thanks for posting, I was curious how 2din will fit but with than bezel looks superclean oem like. Did you pick up the bezel in a particular place ?? Love the fit
nope just did a random search on ebay for it. there were several options depending on the size radio you want. then you just sand and paint.
Hey I just installed a new car radio but the antenna now is not going up to get a radio signal what can it be on my 1999 firebird
johnny cortez i know this is an old post but check your connections and make sure that the blue wire that says power antenna has a good connection, if you dont see a wire labeled power antenna in some cases the wire labeled amp turn on/ remote wire will be what powers your antenna which is usually also blue or blue and white but all the wires should be labeled.
Great install video thank you. Have you experimented with changing the splash screen at all?
Awesome vid dude!! I just installed my radio. Hey. Where did you get that gear shift knob from? I'm looking to upgrade.
You can pick it up at most auto parts stores. And thanks man, it was a simple install
How did you get the clips on the back of the bezel. I cant figure out how to get them on.
syanide31 did u had this problem too with the 4 clips in the back of the bezel trim? how did u get them on?
we're did u get the bezel? I have a 1996 trans am and want a double din
Hey another question, when you did this, did you lose sound to the back seat subwoofers? I can't seem to hear any sound coming out of them
no i didnt. the wiring may have just gone out. these cars are getting up thier in age and thats to be expected.
+muskox28 okay sounds good, I'll check mine out, thanks for responding !

Zaheer Khan
My question is, do the steering wheel buttons still work? I dont want to lose that function.
J Laines probably wont no
does your steering wheel radio controls work and does your car still beep when the doors are open and when the headlights are left on

Really replacing a pioneer with a Pyle? Unless the pioneer was broken I would not have done that switch

for what i paid im satisfied. its not a bad radio by any means and it pretty much does what it advertised but its not the best looking radio and thats really my only gripe.

where did you get the custom border piece?
Just search on eBay for a double din radio bezel for "your make model year". That's about all I did. Typed out 1998 Pontiac firebird double din radio bezel.
What are the dimensions of the double din you installed?
Double dins are 4" tall, 7" wide.
Did the antenna go up and down steal
Yes It does. That actually happens with the car turning on and off.

Yes there is and a 2 micro sub ports. They are under a tab on the front of the radio in the lower left hand corner.

the brakets actualy came with the radio.
+muskox28 okay thanks I've ordered the equipment off ebay now .
I know this video is old, but please check to see where your mic is so u don't cover it for half the video :)
Check your steering wheel controls we probably don’t work.
lol i been using electrical tape on every vehicle i've owned for the past 25 yrs.... yes even my current 02 trans am ... Well atleast I know this one is newer. Hell that old one was missing buttons and didn't even light up, it was a trud man. Hate all you want Its still an upgrade for me. I got it because it was cheap and did what I needed. Never claimed it was the end all be all radio to buy.
I'm not hating. Its just that radio at one point and time was good but its old now
Is that a radio a 'pyle' of shit or is it decent?
lol i love how you shit on the install and choice of the previous owners head unit yet youre about to install a piece of shit double din in its place lmfao
You don't understand how bad the radio was that I took out. This new one of course is no high dollar radio and I belive I say that. But I honestly belive I was justified in what I said. No matter what way you look at it, Its an upgrade.
ACCURATE ‼️‼️‼️
