Gosh they do it so much better than the American version of this show. This one takes a good amount of time and they work with a therapist right from the start. In the states they throw cleaners and junk dumpsters at them and force them to clear out in 48 hours. Then follow up with mental health services.
I watch for the therapy that gives you tools to cope with hurtful things in your life, helps you to understand how to deal with yourself and keep going forward in a healthy way
Childhood memories and gifts; I decided to keep one large plastic bin of what I call ‘small stuff’. Instead of keeping big things, I kept the small ones. Each wrapped in paper or cloth, carefully laid in this single bin. Now, as I get gifts from family, I display them for a while, then as I get new things, I keep the small items, carefully wrap them in cloth and add them to the bin. The larger items I donate. My plan is one day, when I’m old, I can go thru the bin and remember each item, cherish them, then wrap them back up and put back into the bin. It fits in my closet under my hanging clothes. It’s an idea for hoarders to keep memories of life without filling an entire room.
Goodness, when she was yelling at her daughter. 😢 Don't bite the 'hand' that loves you! Well-intended help, even if clueless, is still a sign they care for you. Education is better than anger.😊
I think it's not disgust, but the pain of losing her husband that the sleeping bag reminds her of. She didn't want to deal with it and open up that wound again.
Tina is such a lovely person. I hope she does well. In another episode they had another update about her where she had stalled and finally she released her fathers ashes in a lovely area and was able to move on. She was so responsive to treatment. I don’t know if this might help people understand a hoarder’s motivation a bit but I am an innate hoarder, especially papers, magazines and notes as well as loads of odds and ends collected during my life. I have always had a very poor memory so I use these objects as triggers for recalling memories of past events which is why I develop an emotional attachment to things others would view as rubbish (nothing dirty or actual trash). For my family’s sake I have gradually been forcing myself to honestly evaluate and rationalise my “need” for each of these things related to the cost (to myself and family) of holding onto it. Over repeated multiple sessions I have managed to significantly reduced my hoard (about 60% rn) as well as try to avoid adding to it by via a new way method where I will now take a photo of the item I either want to remember or of objects I desire (rather than buy it). Admittedly I have over a TB of digital photos but it satisfies my need to have a tangible reminder without creating actual clutter (also reduces impulsive spending). As an aside interestingly I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD at 50 yrs old! Not sure if that has any relation or not although it might explain my natural tendency towards disorganisation and messiness despite my best efforts.
The daughter left behind!!! Each of these brave persons have transformed amazingly, but that dear girl is fortunately still very young and she will have a happy future! Good show, we can all get healthy with astute therapy like that. Compassion 👍
The birth certificate type stuff is exactly why I don't let anyone throw out things that don't belong them in our house. No body has any right to throw your stuff away anyway. It's disrespectful to not care about someone else's property. Obviously these people need help, clearly, but people don't respect your things. My ex threw out a 1 inch floder stack, nicely beside my printer/PC without even asking me what it was(he's severe OCD) he thre away all my new born daughters birth payppers, hospital papers first pictures, her insurance and birth registry papers for Canada.. If you can't understand other people's things, then leave it.
I've started decluttering my house a couple of days ago. I'm not a hoarder, but have quite a few memories, attached to objects, which I don't really need. Some of them represent bad memories, so why keep them? Yesterday I threw away a birthday card and an apology letter, I wrote to a guy that treated me poorly (to say the least)... so ridiculous. I never sent the card or the letter, but have clang to them for years. Absurd, isn't it? I still have a lot of paperwork to go through, but I already threw away quite a lot of other stuff (yayy for me). I'm fascinated by the beautiful, though complex, human connections, in this show. I also enjoy the success stories of others (truly feel their joy by proxy), that give me huge motivation to create my own success story. Just love this show!
Tina's story is so touching. I lost my mum to suicide and I can truly identify with her pain. I also got over the trauma of loosing my mither with the help of EMDR. I truly wish her the best❤
I just close my eyes drop everything in a rubbish bag put it in the bin. And I don’t miss what I havnt used in years and these shows have got me going big time 😉
Some people really live in the past. Its absolutely incredible. We all like to have memories and relive good times that passed, but for these people it just makes them blind for what lies ahead. And the more they cling to their memories the more they distance themselves from the future. Its like they stop to live in the moment and stop to make future plans. They have nothing to look forward to. They just make it worse.
If its important to you my advice: Keep a few cherished items but for all the other stuff, take pictures, put them in an album you can sit down with and look through to remember. Then you won't fear forgetting certain events or items. Interesting they say the trauma kicks off the hoarding(often a death) and people can't let go...but they can't let go because they aren't allowing their self to grieve. Everyone dies. There's nothing wrong with holding onto SOME things from loved ones. Heck I have 4 or 5 things my best friend left here(in the same spot) his last visit here. Then he killed himself.. But I don't hoard everything that has meaning for my entire life. There MUST be a neurological reason some people react this way and others do not. Please don't judge people.
Inviting family members to help them clean… who thought this was a good idea??? They’re the main trigger for panic because they’ve been living with it and they have all the negative emotions… WHY???
@@aprilmay1700 That''s a purely materialistic way to look at something that is intended to be symbolic. There is much more powerful symbolism in physically destroying something yourself than in sending it off for someone else to destroy.
I don't recall what the program was but it frequently advocated taking photos of your "memories". An album takes up much less space and your memories are on your mind/heart, not your fingers.

I am actually going through exactly the same thing as Rachel, just this morning I was saying to my mum it is just an envelope...who has been there for 15years ...something got her she is looking at tv and I am looking at this episodes while I clean... at least I am getting things done and she let me clean ! After a few years of patience and psychology tricks at least she leaves me alone and I can throw stuff...She doesn’t want to look at it but let me do it 😌 I feel I am getting there slowly slowly! Hopefully we can enjoy soon....
I am so happy for you! I am so tired arguing with mom about her hoard but she never listens. She keeps my younger brother's toys when my brother is already in highschool now and I need to throw them secretly and she never noticed! And she keeps enough clothes to be displayed in a store. And I found many empty bottles and plastic utensils that she refuses to throw away cause "they are still useful". Nothing works. I give up since I will leave the house soon anyway
These women did very well and I hope they'll continue to keep their home uncluttered.💖
Homes, plural. They live in separate houses, not in one house/home.
@@jb6712 Thank you very much for letting me know! I'm always happy to perfect my english and as you probably guessed from my name, my native language is french!🙂
I love how he hugs them at the end🥺
Society should be thankful to these people. They provide economic benefits to all kinds people except themselves. So selflessness of them. They spend relentlessly without a reason, they provide steady jobs to those professional counselling, professional cleaning, not to mention the skip rental, less garbage to the landfill etc. Hail to the hoarders…
I can honestly say that good therepy and some helping hands and support and love go very far. I'm so happy about the outcome. People just need to know they are valuable without anything else. This inspired me. Trauma is so difficult to deal with.
Love this serie, between the ads 😂
Tina's excitement and joy as she went through her parents things was lovely!!
Gosh they do it so much better than the American version of this show. This one takes a good amount of time and they work with a therapist right from the start. In the states they throw cleaners and junk dumpsters at them and force them to clear out in 48 hours. Then follow up with mental health services.
Stelios says the secret is to take it in your own pace, don’t rush! I love him!
I watch for the therapy that gives you tools to cope with hurtful things in your life, helps you to understand how to deal with yourself and keep going forward in a healthy way
Childhood memories and gifts;
I decided to keep one large plastic bin of what I call ‘small stuff’.
What’s great is they are doing it themselves instead of other people cleaning it out.
Goodness, when she was yelling at her daughter. 😢 Don't bite the 'hand' that loves you! Well-intended help, even if clueless, is still a sign they care for you.
Education is better than anger.😊
Rachel is so lovely to help her mom.
She is so disgusted with an o.k. looking sleeping bag from the ex, but not 'disgusted' by her own mess and detritus. Interesting. lp
I wonder why she just didn't chuck the sleeping bag at the beginning. Maybe she wouldn't have the hoard problem then.
These hoarders are a nightmare to live with and trying to get through to them is like banging your head against a brick wall.
That's called being sick, maybe you don't understand because you never had anything in your life that made you react in different way.
I think it's not disgust, but the pain of losing her husband that the sleeping bag reminds her of. She didn't want to deal with it and open up that wound again.
@@samanthaabreu782 It's so nice to know that empathy still exist
So happy for them to get their life back.
Lives, plural. They aren't one person, nor two people living together, and they have separate LIVES, not one life between them!
What a beautiful outcome -- for both these lovely women. I like the slow and attentive way Stelios brings out the best in them.
The daughter left behind!!! Each of these brave persons have transformed amazingly, but that dear girl is fortunately still very young and she will have a happy future! Good show, we can all get healthy with astute therapy like that. Compassion 👍
The best one I heard is " I'm leaving it for my kids" - They'll appreciate that
I think I have the opposite obsession. I am such a minimalist and get satifaction from throwing something away everyday.
After living with a hoarder (then escaping) I can't stand clutter and throw out stuff all the time.
That’s my mom. I call her an anti-hoarder. Some valuable stuff, some stuff that’s not hers to discard!
Me too I take everything in my closet if I haven't worn I pack clothes and donate I hate clutter
I am getting more like that. Realizing that memories don't need to be kept physical. They can be kept in a harddrive. Way less space.
Zoe and Alison are magical, very lovely people
How Tina tackled the wardrobe... She is just so amazing. What a beautiful soul.
When everything is finally cleaned up every single home is always stuck in a time warp. They look like museums.
They are so moving. I hope they are well and feelin less weight on their shoulders ♥️
So proud of the Mom
I would just walk away and let her sort her own house, I would not tolerate being screamed at, walk away Rachel !!
So wonderful that these ladies got their lives back! 💕
I have lots of your type rubbish, maybe I'd get better in all things if I found them and chucked them
Poor Tina. What a terrible memory.
It feels how they get stuck in time…
Tina's story is so touching. I lost my mum to suicide and I can truly identify with her pain. I also got over the trauma of loosing my mither with the help of EMDR. I truly wish her the best❤
I've underdone EMDR for PTSD and it works miracles!
It looks like a really effective treatment.
"There's no god around here!" I loved it!
😢
Family member yells at me, and I'm OUTA THERE 🚶🚶♀️
I love to see them at the end enjoying the people they were driving away in their clean home!
I just close my eyes drop everything in a rubbish bag put it in the bin. And I don’t miss what I havnt used in years and these shows have got me going big time 😉
The best method is to put everything in a warehouse to see the whole mess and sort the clutter!
I LOVED this episode. What amazing transformations!!
I had EMDR and it was wonderful for me and helped me over my trauma
I hoard children. Other people's since mine are grown. I'm momma or granny to half the neighborhood.
That is sweet 😊
Yes, but they get to leave at night, lol. Or are they piled up in stacks in the livingroom? Heh heh heh xoxoxoxo
@happy face and so needed when they aren’t.
If its important to you my advice:
Keep a few cherished items but for all the other stuff, take pictures, put them in an album you can sit down with and look through to remember.
People from London verses Americans is so different with emotions, It’s so interesting
I like the Dr. He is like magician with a lot of tricks.
Inviting family members to help them clean… who thought this was a good idea???
They’re the main trigger for panic because they’ve been living with it and they have all the negative emotions… WHY???
Love the daughter coming to help her mum
and look what she got for it,
@@madhatter909 In the end a meal together in her childhood dining room
Burning that sleeping bag was a genius idea!
Having a no smoking sign plastered on a wooden door, but living like that, is assinine virtue signaling.
Is it just me or did Tina's mother look quite young compared to Tina's father?? Tragic, I hope she gets the closure and peace she deserves
I thought it is Tina with her father.
What a big house....that's why I choose to build tiny house atleast I didnt have to think that a house need to feel a stuff just because its empty
The dog is the best ❤️
Other than Stelios, it's the only honest character in this episode.
