How smart it was to bring out his "twin", who could do what he couldn't. I have to call up the right program. They're all *me*, but I've got a tendency to split up my skills into really distinct categories. I guess I have kind of a weird brain, but it works for me, mostly. I know what it's like when I want to do one thing, but I'm in the wrong mode for it, and I just can't seem to switch. It's really frustrating. When I was in college, I had to have a specific little room to study in, which worked as a prompt so that I could access all the right skills; being there helped trigger those, so I could actually get started and work properly. I think that room helped me get my degree just as much as any of my profs did. I wonder if Nigel created Miranda so he could get at some of the skills he can't access when he's being Nigel. I do agree it's connected with psychological trauma, and it's the emptiness that is left in their heart which they desperately fill with pleasing memories connected with those things. These people shouldn't be left all alone, God help them..
I think a lot of people would be surprised at how much "stuff" even a well kept home can hold. I live alone in a 2 bedroom townhouse in which I'd say there is about 5 to 8% clutter. However, at almost 70, I've decided I've got too many things and it's time to get rid of things that no longer serve me. I am amazed at how much I've already given to charity (7 tall kitchen garbage bags of clothes, 2 boxes of household things) and thrown away (5 or more bags). In addition, I have 5 boxes of books to donate, a box of things I'd like to sell, and 3 boxes of things to either give away or sell in a yard sale. And I'm still working on it. My friends wouldn't see much of a difference unless they knew what the insides of my cabinets, drawers, and closets looked like, which they don't. It seems to me that, just because you have everything tidy and put away, it doesn't mean you're not a hoarder. It's just on a much smaller scale.
I am still worried about Nigel. He still looked so, so sad even after his house was decluttered. I think it's going to get very real for him now he doesn't have the clutter to occupy his thoughts. I hope that Stelios continues some after care with him as I think Nigel is in a deep depression. Even when he was sitting, for the first time in years with his friends having a dinner at his dining table, he was just not happy- no smile on his face. The other lady will need a lot more work I think.
I think he's grieving. Letting go of clutter brings up a lot of emotions, and helps get the feelings to the surface and out. He looks miserable, but I'm hoping it is from feelings the now and a cathartic process having begun. Lovely of you to notice how he was feeling at the end.
Yup. That is what I feel about quick make-overs… there ARE going to be after-effects as real life has room to rushing back in. This is when the real mental health support is going to be needed.
I think having a skip outside the house is a huge thing. Knowing that other people can see the amount of rubbish coming out of their house must be very embarrassing for them as people can be so judgemental. Such a massive step forward. Kudos to them!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@@Del-Canada he can’t care for himself or home so the cats unfortunately, are not being cared for properly either. It is just too much. I don’t think he is doing it out of malice. I am so proud of Nigel and his recovery. Damn near brought some tears to my eyes to see him come back. Good luck in your life Nigel, and i hope you are blessed with finding love again.
I too am loving the British version, especially our brilliant therapist. The show goes beyond glossing over the mental health aspects and takes a deep dive into curative elements. Love it!
OMG I feel sorry for Nigel’s cats! One looks unwell. They don’t have a clean litter box and just use the house instead, which never gets cleaned. That can cause skin and respiratory illnesses. Nigel leaves and gets fresh air, the cats can not. This is so bad.
everyone seems focused on the cats (fair enough) but it's a remarkable achievement for Nigel to have cleared that much stuff out of his house and be able to move about and live in there again. I'm glad he was successful, he seems a sweet old fella.
@@findmeintime if you listen well to people it can be quite easy to use what they have said to let them re-think an issue. When I was a pharmacy technician I once had a lady who refused her diabetesmedication because it was a different brand than the one she minding demanded to get. Too bad for her the brand was unavailable at the time for more than 5 more months to come. She kept insisting she would get the doctor’s order for us to give her that drug and first it took me 10minutes to explain that that was of no use and then she said she would just stop the meds and see where it went. I tried to tell her how bad it was for her eyes, nerves, kidneys…. Didn’t register. But, during the whole conversation she had said something I had to think back to. She told me how happy she was she was only on tablets and no more insulin injections. Going back and forth she refused to take this brand. But when she said she would quit and wait &see I told her (since she didn’t understand the other consequences) that if she did that I guaranteed her she would be back on insulin very soon and “you’ve just told me how happy you are you are off them.” That registered. Though slightly in doubt still she finally decided that THAT was way worse than two days of diarrhea (her reason for not wanting to switch brands, every time she had diarrhea for two days according to her) and she decided to take them with her and accepted that she just had to go with this. And all I did was basically listen to her objectives and other things she had said and then use that later on to convince her that and why she would be better off with the medication than by quitting because her brand was unavailable for months to come. It’s not always easy but listening well can help you along in the conversation later on. Stelios and Jackie did so by using Ms Miranda, but really we can all do it in our conversations.
That's what I said - he has a beautiful home that you didn't know was there before ! Bravo for Nigel. I hope it stays like that. He has wonderful friends, a great therapist and Angel cleaners.I hope it sticks for him !
Under all that clutter Nigel had such a beautiful home. Feels so antique and unique. The Egyptians statues and hieroglyphics on the wall was so nicely asthetic.
If it helped him why make fun of it? If he really has a form of DID then it makes perfect sense. If he has a female alter,he'd dress like a woman, becsuse that's what the alter wabts to wear. The alter has no attachment to her stuff the host has and can therefore throw stuff out. Ususally alters aren't called, but they can be if needed (it is not recommended that others like therapists try to get the patient to purposely call alters, that can go wrong and be very damaging.

It makes me angry when someone's hoarding affects their children or pets. I don't have a cat, but I'm sure cats would prefer a nice clean litter box. And those cats did not look healthy, one had rashes around his eyes. I can't feel sorry for a hoarded when they put their need for junk ahead of their pets' health.
I like Stellios's face when he first enters Nigel's house. I know that he's used seeing hoarders houses but sometimes things stocks in their house are unimaginable. But Nigel is a very nice man and he deserves a new life, beginning with a new cluttered free beauty home.
I hope Nigel gets help to adjust, his home is really lovely but it's obviously taken a toll on him getting to that point, more so than is evident in other people in this series, also I hope the cats see a vet and maybe get some training so they don't continue to rule the house and set everything back.
Those poor cats. I hope the TV production provided some veterinary care as part of the contract. Nigel is very sweet and has suffered but he needs to be responsible for animals he’s adopted.
He lives in England if he can't afford the Vet there is always RSPA no excuse for neglecting them and no need for the Show to pay. but morally they should do something. I am choked it never came up

Aww Nigel seems like such a sweet person. Poor guy; its not easy losing the love of your life. And he’s been grieving all the years. I hope he is doing well with good people in his life.
One thing l can never grasp with Hoarders is,where do they get the MONEY for all their stuff??! Even if they're buying from Op shops/charity shops,it still costs money.l don't think l could afford to be a hoarder.
I met a lady that invited me in her home and told me I should Help her. I was so disgusted and sickened that I had to leave and could not help her. I'm still hurting over it years later. I'm not sure what happened to her or her hoarder house after she lost her mother that she took care of in this mess. It takes a very strong person to help somebody with these mental health hoarding issues
@@wioi I wish she could’ve helped her too but not everyone is capable of dealing with this. Her home was filled to the ceiling and two rooms and you couldn't even get into her kitchen or bathroom You want to help her just let me know. I'm not a professional and have no way of dealing with this mentally, emotionally or physically. She also accused everyone that did help her of stealing from her so I just could not go there. Sorry 💘
My Alters do certain tasks when I can't. It's a great way to use a Dissociative/Personality Disorder as an asset. If you can make it happen SAFELY, do it. 😊
It always breaks my heart to see this.... My parents were hoarders, I never judged them, I just had difficulty understanding why... The amount of money spent,...... the time spent..... then their health suffers.....
Sorry you had to live through that. I don’t know any hoarder but on seeing these videos like seeing those of emotional overeaters I can’t help but wonder how rich these people are to even be able to financially accommodate their disease…
I'm really worried of all those poor animals. They must get out of this situation. If a cat doesn't use the litter box and starts to leave excrements all over it's a important sign that the surrounding makes her feeling bad or she is sick. I think it would be better for the cats (and the other animals) to get to a better place.
I feel bad for them, I really do, and I realise soft approach is necessary, but when animals and children are harmed by the living conditions, they should be removed until the home is made habitable again.
Looks like Nigel responded well to the interventions and it was very brave of him to open his home up to us and take it on board . Even cleaned up he has so much stuff that I hope he can keep it up !
I feel like many of the hoarder shows have cats in the home as well. Makes me wonder if they are "hoping" that the cats will keep the mice/rats at bay.
What is very interesting about the attachment to their things. The ones who think that their items have value then when they let help come in and the reality that the "things" have not as much value as they think. LOL
Stelios is a great therapist. My mom was a hoarder and my sister and I are very tidy. I got sick for about a month and I was in a depressive episode. So when I was well again I turned around and my house was in shambles it makes me really quite anxious. I’m still trying to get things in order because all this was when my partner moved in as well. So now it’s double a cleanup.
Poor Nigel. It's always sad that people don't or can't get help for so long 😔 I'm not a neat freak or obsessed with cleanliness, but too much clutter gives me horrible anxiety and stress. I couldn't imagine living in those conditions.
I've watched many shows about hoarding. I'm really impressed by the way hoarding is approached in the UK. On the US hoarding shows all they do is yell and argue with the people who want to keep everything. In the UK there is much more compassion and weeks of psychiatric coaching. It makes a huge difference.

I agree he looked so sad and hunched over and holding himself and kept saying ' it's done, it's done', he did so well though, maybe too much too soon.
I think it's the feeling of emptiness, rather like the emptiness of rooms after a beloved has died.
He actually relapsed and appears in a later episode for another round.
I think having a skip outside the house is a huge thing. Knowing that other people can see the amount of rubbish coming out of their house must be very embarrassing for them as people can be so judgemental. Such a massive step forward. Kudos to them!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Poor nigel, I wish him all the best in the future, he seems like such a kind, caring guy and I feel so bad for him xx
Nice? Doesn't care about animals very much though. His cats are sick and he provides no clean litter for them.
Seems like a perv
@@Del-Canada he can’t care for himself or home so the cats unfortunately, are not being cared for properly either. It is just too much. I don’t think he is doing it out of malice. Hoarding is a mental illness that affects your entire life. He really should give his kitties to a good home that can better care for them.
Wait, did you say future or FURNITURE?
I LOVE the reaction of Stelios on Nigels house after the proces... so heartwarming and real.
I always feel so bad for the animals living in those conditions 😔

This has been my absolute favorite series and show itself. I fell in love with the poor guy whose partner died. He was so depressed and lonely, but I hope someone got that pinkeyed cat a vet 😩 and I really hope that he's doing well. He's such a sweetheart and has impeccable taste.
Love how Stelios is supportive of Nigel's alter 😭 he's a great doc
I have watched several of these stories and I am impressed with the acceptance, support and love of people that are friends and family.

I am American and I much prefer this show to A&E's hoarder shows. This is a better, more humane, and a slightly less sensationalized show.
I love your "handle". Beautiful.
35:53 This is also a beautiful lesson to Jenny's granddaughter to know that life is a journey and we are always growing and developing. ❤
What a sweet kid 🥲
Nigel, I’m so proud of you . I know Sid was there with you at your dinner party because our loved ones stop by to see us. You are a gentle soul. Take care and enjoy your home.
Love it!
his best friend opened her home for him. Kinda nice.
that's what friends do.
OMG I feel sorry for Nigel’s cats! One looks unwell. They don’t have a clean litter box and just use the house instead, which never gets cleaned. That can cause skin and respiratory illnesses. Nigel leaves and gets fresh air, the cats can not. This is so bad.
Nigel and Stelios are so kind hearted
I was moved by Dr stelios wonderful reaction
everyone seems focused on the cats (fair enough) but it's a remarkable achievement for Nigel to have cleared that much stuff out of his house and be able to move about and live in there again. I'm glad he was successful, he seems a sweet old fella.

@@findmeintime where I live lots of cats i give them milk
But when she said she would quit and wait &see I told her (since she didn’t understand the other consequences) that if she did that I guaranteed her she would be back on insulin very soon and “you’ve just told me how happy you are you are off them.”
That registered.
Nigel has a good soul, I hope his life gets better from here on. And Stellios is such a wonderful person as well
Under all that clutter Nigel had such a beautiful home. Feels so antique and unique. The Egyptians statues and hieroglyphics on the wall was so nicely asthetic.
I love that they give them so much therapy before the actual clean out. Nigel ended up with a really lovely house!
Me too. I really think this whole process would be useless without therapy. You need to understand what is causing the problem to begin with.
It would be nice to know if he finished his whole house. It wasn't finished, done with this episode.
I have found the solution to this mess...get my alter-ego to throw things away! Going to give that a try tomorrow!
If it helped him why make fun of it? If he really has a form of DID then it makes perfect sense. If he has a female alter,he'd dress like a woman, becsuse that's what the alter wabts to wear. The alter has no attachment to her stuff the host has and can therefore throw stuff out. Ususally alters aren't called, but they can be if needed (it is not recommended that others like therapists try to get the patient to purposely call alters, that can go wrong and be very damaging.

poor Nigel he misses his partner so much & now he’s overwhelmed at what he’s let happen & those cats could do with a trip to the vet but you can see they love him - hope all of them get the help they need

I can see how Nigel could be a real inspiration because he speaks from experience.
It's touching to see how friends help with such kindness.

That poor sick cat😭 He/she deserves better
It makes me angry when someone's hoarding affects their children or pets. I don't have a cat, but I'm sure cats would prefer a nice clean litter box. And those cats did not look healthy, one had rashes around his eyes. I can't feel sorry for a hoarded when they put their need for junk ahead of their pets' health.
Really like Stelios and the way he handles things. Well done!

That poor cat !!! I don't judge him because of the state of his house but he is equally negligent towards his cat.
I like Stellios's face when he first enters Nigel's house. I know that he's used seeing hoarders houses but sometimes things stocks in their house are unimaginable. But Nigel is a very nice man and he deserves a new life, beginning with a new cluttered free beauty home.
I know! The man actually looks shocked : )
God bless you Nigel. You're such a beautiful person. Keep the good work and enjoy the life around you. Greetings from Europe
I hope Nigel gets help to adjust, his home is really lovely but it's obviously taken a toll on him getting to that point, more so than is evident in other people in this series, also I hope the cats see a vet and maybe get some training so they don't continue to rule the house and set everything back.

Flipping brilliant to embrace and utilize Nigel's alter egos. Great and compassionate doctor ♡
My Alters do certain tasks when I can't. It's a great way to use a Dissociative/Personality Disorder as an asset.
If you can make it happen SAFELY, do it. 😊
These hoarders don't even know what they have, they haven't seen some piece of trash for years, then all of a sudden it's the most precious thing.

I hope he has the funds to do all the repairs now. BTW, a bad diet of breads, fried stuff, sugar, etc...will totally make you depressed and anxious.
Hopefully if he gets his house under control he can begin to get better sleep, a little more exercise and improve his diet. Rome was built in a day.
Nigel has a really cool, eclectic home! Also, loved how excited the doctor got when he saw the clean up.
The people helping clear out Nigels house should be wearing hazmat suits. And that poor sick kitty.
Looks like Nigel responded well to the interventions and it was very brave of him to open his home up to us and take it on board . Even cleaned up he has so much stuff that I hope he can keep it up !
What an exceptionally nice man Nigel! I do hope he can keep his hoarding under control.
I was so wishing they wouldve addressed the cat situation!😢
I feel like many of the hoarder shows have cats in the home as well. Makes me wonder if they are "hoping" that the cats will keep the mice/rats at bay.
What is very interesting about the attachment to their things. The ones who think that their items have value then when they let help come in and the reality that the "things" have not as much value as they think. LOL
I really hope Nigel has kept his beautiful house tidy! Seeing his progress made me emotional, he deserves to be happy.
Same here!

I've watched many shows about hoarding. I'm really impressed by the way hoarding is approached in the UK. On the US hoarding shows all they do is yell and argue with the people who want to keep everything. In the UK there is much more compassion and weeks of psychiatric coaching. It makes a huge difference.
