- Joy is a 57-year-old retiree who has an obsession with collecting vintage toys, games and dolls. With two of her bedrooms and her study packed to the rafters with stuff, Joy keeps on adding to it, and now her home would put most toy museums to shame. Six years ago, Joy's husband Dennis convinced her to turn her compulsive collecting into a business and open a shop. Sadly a year later, Dennis became ill with terminal cancer, and even though the shop had to close, with the entire stock coming back home with her, Joy continued buying more toys and dolls on a regular

Unfortunately mismatched to the home owner who was so kind and charming. This space is unlivable.
I have seen a good few of these videos and the comments and packed with people who hate the designers taste. I agree with them. It’s dreadful. Horrid.
Who in the name of sanity paints a child's BEDROOM RED?? Especially a room for a child who is likely stressed/scared?? And who may be older than 5?? And not even proper curtains in her own bedroom! Shocking waste of money, I know what things cost and it's perfectly possible to redo the whole place for a fraction of what they wasted. I bet Joy changed plenty once they left.
They said it was orange ? Looked red to me too !
I really didn't like anything in her house they did ...but that's just my taste I guess ? Lol
I'm American and I agree to the ceiling paint design being hideous...leave it a airy pale yellow and add decor after the foster situation is approved

Please get rid of this designer. She forces her awful designs on unsuspecting clients wasting their own money. Her designs are about her, not about the client. She’s clueless about their personalities, likes or dislikes. My teeth are on edge the minute I see her on the set.
I would never let anyone design my place without consulting me in every step of the way.
And never doing somebody else place as it really is in here. She is a renter she should if any only refresh it and keep the money.

Good for Joy for standing up for herself to keep those boxes of her favourites. She has a very special collection. Those teddy bears are just magical.
Reading a few comments here has spared me from watching this episode. I do not enjoy seeing people being cheated when the “expert” practically gives their collections away to dealers & I don’t like seeing someone’s home ruined by ridiculous “decorators.”

Omigosh! You made the right decision! Joy was gracious about it, but I found the decorating pretty disturbing. That ridiculous chandelier and flock wallpaper would be gone before that decorator was down the road if she put that junk in my house.
Wow, the workers have a better sense of wallpaper trends than the supposed interior designer ...

I collect dolls and teddy bears. Her collection was worth at the very least 10,000 dollars! The man that bought the best best barbies at the stand got a steal and yet balked at the little he ended up paying! The design was not good in any of the rooms! She liked victorian and nothing looked victorian to me. I love victorian!
I also love Victorian and was absolutely struggling to find a single semblance of it anywhere in this hideous design!
I participated in digital interior design, this designer would definitely be rated at the very bottom of in the list. All the rooms are quite small, the first idea should be to use colours and designs to make them look and feel larger yet the designer did just the opposite.
She seems to like “dark and cosy”. I agree the design should be light and bright.

I like watching this series to see what monstrosities that pretentious "designer" hoists on the owner/occupiers after they have sold off their treasures.

The shelves in the craft room were a good idea ... I wonder how much work it would take to get the paint back off Joy's pretty wooden furniture.

i knew we were in trouble when the very first thing out of her mouth was to argue with the homeowner and inform her that she didn't personally like traditional victorian and thus would be foisting modern interiors onto the poor widow..
Yes I don't like the designer she doesn't listen to the home owner in what she wants. This designer only want her designs and doesn't care what the home owner wants.

The collection was terribly underpriced. They are worth so much more. I think JOY has been shafted. Oh well...
i was especially surprised at the Steif collection...i thought they were worth a lot more...the perils of auctions...yet it takes so long to find a private buyer...ahhh

The Barbie dolls are worth a tiny fortune alone, I believe. How much more the early 21st century dolls and teddy bears. She collected those for four years only to get less than $10,000 for them? Unbelievable.

Really ! What a waste of money . You really need a new designer . I have seen many of her remodels and have yet to find one I would live in . That childs bedroom takes the cake. I would not put any one in there let alone a child who has lost everything they know. Im glad the Lady likes it because Im afraid I would be telling them to redo it at their cost .

I liked the master bedroom, but not the child's room. A cild in foster care may need something more soothing. Foster care can be traumatic.

If i had walked in and seen what that so called designer had done to my house i would’ve said bring back my clutter it looked better when it was stuffed full..joy did not like that children room at all.

This is nice. I’m an antique seller buyer and I was drooling over things that she had those cute tiny little dolls and those teddy bears. Oh I would’ve been in heaven. I was buying and selling and piling up my place with my things you bring your work home with you when you sell. I don’t want to sell anymore. I am jaded by some of the not so pleasant people that I have had to deal with and then indignities at the shows. I just don’t want to do it anymore. I want to find something else to do but the stuff has to go. I’ve donated a lot of it. If I can’t sell it, I donated it. Time for a new life and to enjoy my space.

Those removals cost about £300-£500 so they needed to deduct that too and the cost of the market stall.... The auction house charging 30% in fees and commission.... not value for money. She should have put things on auction sites herself where collector's buy things not dealers.
I really dont like the people helping in this series compared to similar series I've seen before. I can't tell if I just dont like their designs, or if they just come across as very snooty, or both.

Seldom have I see interior design so devoid of talent. I feel so sorry for Joy who has to actually live in a space that could have become a lot more inviting, functional and grown up than the absolute horror it was turned into.

Wow that design would be the last thing I'd want after stressful hoard clearing. I'm just stressed looking at it. It's like an endless mountain climb. First get rid of all the clutter: Mountain 1. Now get rid of this design : mountain 2. From one huge problem to another. Poor lady.
I like the main bedroom except the awful curtains. The kids room is too black and red. Someone made a comment that's it's an awful design for a foster child. The office is not great either.
I also find the man very pushy with selling. It's as if he parties too much on the weekends and is strung up and worn out for work

Ugh, I hate the decor. It looked better after the hoard was gone, should have just left it like that. It's all horrid. I couldn't relax in that sickly purple bedroom. And the kids bedroom is downright scary.
There's a million things I don't like with the new design. All the colours are not compatible with each other.
I really like the redesign - not keen on the red furniture with green walls in the office, though the red looks good with the blue boxes and the pink flowers. The paint colour in the bedroom is a bit “muddy” for my taste. I’d like a more whitish pink. I like the orange in the bedroom, though I don’t think the small orange boxes are very practical. I love the wallpaper, the headboard and the lighting!

This is probably the most HIDEOUS interior design I've EVER seen. The child's bedroom is terrifying. The poor child who goes in there needs a calming, soothing, safe space not alarming stark prison style.

That Barbie doll deal was just a set up. A serious collector would have their dolls in original packaging, as pristine as possible or at least in original outfit. How do you expect people to pay £15 for a raggedy doll with just a random skirt on?

Not impressed, terrible colour scheme which has too much dark. That flock wallpaper I felt was awful especially in such a small room. Black is a depressing colour so not suitable for a child. Need to change all the dark colours to much lighter colours which give the impression of bigger rooms. Red is a very strong overwhelming colour, pastel calming colours would have been much better. Did the designer bother to ask Joy what colours she wanted?
