I wonder if the Lincoln Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois or the curators of his home there, might be able to help the lady identify something about that plate or point her to someone who could identify the manufacturer and date of manufacture. If it is unique in some way, she might be able to track more of its history. It definitely was not one of the Lincoln Presidential china, but Lincoln certainly had access to more china during his lifetime that he used. Perhaps it was a plate at a friend's that he used or was something from his home. Many possibilities there. I was struck by how well the plate has been taken care of and how beautifully intact that border is. It is such a distinctive border that it seems the loop design might have been dictated or limited by the manufacturing process. There are people who research china, glassware, pottery, crystal, etc. Perhaps a museum could help or give a hint that she could research further. It's a very cool item!

Love seeing the adoptee, whose parents (like mine) supported her finding out more about her bio heritage. When she comfortably introduced both her bio parents and the parents who raised her, it made me tear up: as my dad always said "you can never have too many people who love you".
During my family search, I found out that my father's father did not die in a fire as he was told. I sobbed for my father. The man died in 1973 from a heart attack and my father died 1992.
As someone who is biracial, it's important to learn as much as possible about your family's origins..... But it's even more important to understand our histories but not marinate in the feelings of anger at any of the not so wonderful facts 💯

I love this comment. Most peoples were enslaved at some point or another in their history. The word slave came from the Slavs who were enslaved by the Turks. The Jewish were enslaved in Egypt and they overcame. Indians enslaved Indians, blacks enslaved blacks. The institution of slavery is evil, one that has plagued the world. My daughter isn't much older, college-educated, and has her own charisma, but this young lady was special--no "um," no "like" every third word, no slang, no vocal fry, focused and seemed grounded. My husband died in 2006 after almost 38 years of marriage. While he was ill, he died unexpectedly. I know it is the hardest thing Ive gone through but God is faithful. Also, I wanted to say that I have lived in Texas over 50 years but spent several of my growing up years in Benton KY. My dad worked at KY dam. Then, after I married, my parents moved back to that area, Benton and Gilbertsville and he worked at Barkley Dam for over 20 years. So, we visited often. I love the area and still have friends there. his logic on the "butter" plate is wrong - the dishes used at the inaugural wouldn't have been owned by the Lincolns. The famous Mary Todd Lincoln dishes also would not have been bought _before_ the inauguration.
I think the “Lincoln butter dish” was not researched or explained correctly. How would presidential China already be in place on the first inauguration of a president? Wouldn’t he have to take office before ordering China? Or does it happen on the day he’s elected? It would seem odd to me that Mary Todd Lincoln would order presidential China before her husband had become president. Are there photographs of the inauguration dinner? I’m sure many others in the audience caught this discrepancy too and want to know.

I suspect it was something that she had ordered during the transition between when he was elected and the actual inauguration a few months later on January 20th. During that transition (as it happens in modern times), they would have been preparing for the incoming administration to hit the ground running for a smooth transition.

I recently discovered my grandmother and Judge Joe Brown are 2nd cousins 2x removed. She descends from the Blakeney family of SC and so does Judge Joe Brown and the late director John Singleton. Judge's middle name is his grandmother's surname Blakeney.
I definitely can't grasped the ``times removed'' references. I do not grasp what this means at all. Is it ``in-law'' or is it years or generations or what. It doesn't seem to be ``in-law;'' that Lincoln one was clearly a blood-sharer with Abraham, yet they used the ``removed'' quantifier. So . . . is it like an exponent or what, I wonder.
@@quickchris10 removed is easy it means a generation from. For example your moms first cousin is your first cousin once removed. They are one generation from you.
@@quickchris10 That is a common error. That isn't a second cousin. A second cousin would have to be in your same generation meaning you share atleast one great-grandparent. Your parent's first cousin couldn't be your second cousin because you are not from the same generation the "removed" counts the degrees of separation which is very important.

I did some research on my genealogy and I found out I am a descendent of a man who (possibly) names Arizona. He was a lawyer and politician. I know history says another man named Arizona, but my great great great grandfather spoke Spanish and knew the history of the land from the American Indians and most politicians back in the 1800s give credit to my GGG grandfather, William Claude Jones. I am also related to a lot of Hawaiian ali'i, like most Hawaiians. In connection with this video, it was rumored that Jones knew President Lincoln and even had letters signed from the President.
If you could see a pic of my Dad & Grandpa,you'd think they were Lincolns brothers. However he is not,as far as I see related to my Dad's side,but my mother's side. He's my 6th cousin,4x removed.

I'd like to add an aspect to the Blackman story. As a native German who speaks several languages fluently, the former German name of the Blackmans "Blechmann" sounds in German - correctly pronounced - alike to Blackmann. "Blechmann" , does not mean a black man, but a tin man, a name for a toy or a worker in a production of tin and iron. The second part of the German name "Mann" means "man" in English, The Blackman family would erase the second "n", when they became American citizens. And by the way - the former province of Kurland did not belong to Russia all the time. It had been part time Prussian and the Prussians would have spoken German, so that might be the reason why Mr. Blackman had not a Russian, but a German name.
Our family name was KLEIN... heritage in Germany and Ireland .. We were always told that it had to be KLEIN SOMETHING. KLEIN MEANS LITTLE. . So little man , little boy or little house. No clue but would love to know more 😊
They never wanna say anything remotely ``scandalous'' about Lincoln. I wish they would talk about Abraham's mother's side of the family, which is shadowy. His mother Nancy was raised by the Hanks family, but Nancy Hanks was raising Nancy as a favor to her sister, who was a Sparrow. So, Lincoln's mother didn't know who her real father was. I guess if DNA could show it, they already would have done. I just feel this is a great mystery to be solved. I found this info in an old book in a military library, unfortunately I guess I didn't take notes/don't know what book.

I think she said this dad's mother died when his dad was 2. His father was disabled after that and raised him. That's why he said the story explained a whole lot. His father did not get to know this mom or his sons grandmother either. So sad.

How do I find out where your program is coming next? I live in Madison, MS - not far from Jackson. My family tree is on Ancestry. Thanks to my Aunt Billye who did her DNA through them, I've been able to prove back to 7 generations! Lots of Scots, Irish, English and some French Huguenots - mostly "Protestors" of the Catholic faith. From what I can tell, we've had numerous ancestors in colonial settlements all up and down the eastern seaboard of America. I've found numerous soldiers who participated in the American Revolution. Reportedly even some who were in the shadow government prior to the First Continental Congress (i.e. the Committees of Correspondence and Observation) Thanks to Ancestry I've been able to go back into the 1500's with about 4 lines. It is hard to confirm these though. One line of my Mother's Mother is McClelland - I've gotten mired down due to the similar named Aaron David, David. I would really like to get this family line settled. Also, on my Mothers side is a line called "Stone" - which we are wondering if it is related to the Signer of the Declaration of Independence called Thomas Stone.

Family history has been fun to search and it has revealed three mysteries. I know my step grandmother is related to Louis Armstrong but I don’t know how. Through DNA I found a distant relative, but we don’t know how we are related. Then an unexpected baby shows up with family that to mine and family knowledge says the couple didn’t have a baby.
It's a bit confusing on the young ladies dad's sir name history because Ingram is an English/Irish/Sottish sir name (Ingle + Raven). I mean that is quite a dead end as far as finding her tribal ancestry in Africa but some good info none the less. I mean Africa is a big place with many tribes and traditions. It would be so limiting to just know your from "Africa". I'm able to trace my origins down to serval 20 mile areas in specific time periods between particular tribes and a handful of people traversing several different family crests.. My wish is for everyone to do the same. I'm glad her and her family were happy with the info they did get, it's all that matters. As American we begin to understand our ancestors left their original locations for whatever reason often times never looking back. I feel more akin to other Americans rather than the places an people my ancestors left. we are on big dysfunctional family, LOL. Every creed and every kind to give us depth for strength. :)

Abraham Lincoln is my 5th cousin six times removed through my mother's side. My 10th great grandparents Richard Smith and Sarah Hammond are his 5th great grandparents.

My husband died in 2006 after almost 38 years of marriage. While he was ill, he died unexpectedly. I know it is the hardest thing Ive gone through but God is faithful. Also, I wanted to say that I have lived in Texas over 50 years but spent several of my growing up years in Benton KY. My dad worked at KY dam. Then, after I married, my parents moved back to that area, Benton and Gilbertsville and he worked at Barkley Dam for over 20 years. So, we visited often. I love the area and still have friends there. his logic on the "butter" plate is wrong - the dishes used at the inaugural wouldn't have been owned by the Lincolns. The famous Mary Todd Lincoln dishes also would not have been bought _before_ the inauguration.

I think the “Lincoln butter dish” was not researched or explained correctly. How would presidential China already be in place on the first inauguration of a president? Wouldn’t he have to take office before ordering China? Or does it happen on the day he’s elected? It would seem odd to me that Mary Todd Lincoln would order presidential China before her husband had become president. Are there photographs of the inauguration dinner? I’m sure many others in the audience caught this discrepancy too and want to know.

I suspect it was something that she had ordered during the transition between when he was elected and the actual inauguration a few months later on January 20th. During that transition (as it happens in modern times), they would have been preparing for the incoming administration to hit the ground running for a smooth transition.

I recently discovered my grandmother and Judge Joe Brown are 2nd cousins 2x removed. She descends from the Blakeney family of SC and so does Judge Joe Brown and the late director John Singleton. Judge's middle name is his grandmother's surname Blakeney.
I definitely can't grasped the ``times removed'' references. I do not grasp what this means at all. Is it ``in-law'' or is it years or generations or what. It doesn't seem to be ``in-law;'' that Lincoln one was clearly a blood-sharer with Abraham, yet they used the ``removed'' quantifier. So . . . is it like an exponent or what, I wonder.
@@quickchris10 removed is easy it means a generation from. For example your moms first cousin is your first cousin once removed. They are one generation from you.

@@quickchris10 That is a common error. That isn't a second cousin. A second cousin would have to be in your same generation meaning you share atleast one great-grandparent. Your parent's first cousin couldn't be your second cousin because you are not from the same generation the "removed" counts the degrees of separation which is very important.

The Hatchard bookstore story: back in the time when Nancy and Thomas got a divorce, there would have been absolutely no way for her to support herself or children without either shoplifting or sex work. It's very sad. Aside from the fact that the community put all the blame on Nancy apparently.
Seems like even these ancestors are doing the same. This lady making sure to say her cousin “possibly could have contributed to the death of somebody” followed by “His wife, wow what a character”. The wife is the “character” for shoplifting but not her relative for murdering someone. 🙄

Come to Beaufort SC where we still on part of the family land given by the plantation owners. It’s beginning to fade especially after Covid the Gullahs here went overlooked for years and now although they see us they want to take what we had and inherited from generations of formate slaves
I did some research on my genealogy and I found out I am a descendent of a man who (possibly) names Arizona. He was a lawyer and politician. I know history says another man named Arizona, but my great great great grandfather spoke Spanish and knew the history of the land from the American Indians and most politicians back in the 1800s give credit to my GGG grandfather, William Claude Jones. I am also related to a lot of Hawaiian ali'i, like most Hawaiians. In connection with this video, it was rumored that Jones knew President Lincoln and even had letters signed from the President.

I'd like to add an aspect to the Blackman story. As a native German who speaks several languages fluently, the former German name of the Blackmans "Blechmann" sounds in German - correctly pronounced - alike to Blackmann.
"Blechmann" , does not mean a black man, but a tin man, a name for a toy or a worker in a production of tin and iron.
The second part of the German name "Mann" means "man" in English, The Blackman family would erase the second "n", when they became American citizens.
And by the way - the former province of Kurland did not belong to Russia all the time. It had been part time Prussian and the Prussians would have spoken German, so that might be the reason why Mr. Blackman had not a Russian, but a German name.

They never wanna say anything remotely ``scandalous'' about Lincoln. I wish they would talk about Abraham's mother's side of the family, which is shadowy. His mother Nancy was raised by the Hanks family, but Nancy Hanks was raising Nancy as a favor to her sister, who was a Sparrow. So, Lincoln's mother didn't know who her real father was. I guess if DNA could show it, they already would have done. I just feel this is a great mystery to be solved. I found this info in an old book in a military library, unfortunately I guess I didn't take notes/don't know what book.

I think she said this dad's mother died when his dad was 2. His father was disabled after that and raised him. That's why he said the story explained a whole lot. His father did not get to know this mom or his sons grandmother either. So sad.

Probably more that they were all from the same slave owner. Slaves were given their owners sir name so not all were related but all worked together.

How do I find out where your program is coming next? I live in Madison, MS - not far from Jackson. My family tree is on Ancestry. Thanks to my Aunt Billye who did her DNA through them, I've been able to prove back to 7 generations! Lots of Scots, Irish, English and some French Huguenots - mostly "Protestors" of the Catholic faith. From what I can tell, we've had numerous ancestors in colonial settlements all up and down the eastern seaboard of America. I've found numerous soldiers who participated in the American Revolution. Reportedly even some who were in the shadow government prior to the First Continental Congress (i.e. the Committees of Correspondence and Observation) Thanks to Ancestry I've been able to go back into the 1500's with about 4 lines. It is hard to confirm these though. One line of my Mother's Mother is McClelland - I've gotten mired down due to the similar named Aaron David, David. I would really like to get this family line settled. Also, on my Mothers side is a line called "Stone" - which we are wondering if it is related to the Signer of the Declaration of Independence called Thomas Stone.

Family history has been fun to search and it has revealed three mysteries. I know my step grandmother is related to Louis Armstrong but I don’t know how. Through DNA I found a distant relative, but we don’t know how we are related. Then an unexpected baby shows up with family that to mine and family knowledge says the couple didn’t have a baby.

It's a bit confusing on the young ladies dad's sir name history because Ingram is an English/Irish/Sottish sir name (Ingle + Raven). I mean that is quite a dead end as far as finding her tribal ancestry in Africa but some good info none the less. I mean Africa is a big place with many tribes and traditions. It would be so limiting to just know your from "Africa". I'm able to trace my origins down to serval 20 mile areas in specific time periods between particular tribes and a handful of people traversing several different family crests.. My wish is for everyone to do the same. I'm glad her and her family were happy with the info they did get, it's all that matters. As American we begin to understand our ancestors left their original locations for whatever reason often times never looking back. I feel more akin to other Americans rather than the places an people my ancestors left. we are on big dysfunctional family, LOL. Every creed and every kind to give us depth for strength. :)

My history professor helped me do a touch of genealogy at least as far as paperwork . Not deep DNA maybe.... and her ancestor was the ships pilot of the mayflower and my dads ancestor was a passenger on that ship. Also Andre Jackson die owing her family a lot of money lol. That bum.
